somewherebecomingrain · 19/09/2012 13:06

it can't be 1 in 8 then - it's 1 in 67 according to dr google
xxx i know how it feels

trying2bpos · 19/09/2012 13:11

Yeah I'm not sure where I read the 1 in 8 possibly in my bumpf from MW. Silly how a year can make such a massive difference. Hopefully the bloods and NT will bring it down a bit too. They've actually lowered what's considered as high risk since last time too so that should help a bit!

HaveALittleFaith · 19/09/2012 13:27

trying you mean risk of Down's? I've got my NHS screening programme book to hand and it suggest the following:
1:1500 for 20 years old
1:900 for 30
1:100 for 40. - so its a 1% risk but some googling outs the range as somewhere says - 1:67, 1:86, 1:70. It's not 1:8 though. That would be 12.5% of women at 41 and you know that's not the case.

usernamegoeshere · 19/09/2012 15:27

congratulations on yet more great scans!

I have a confession to make. Firstly I went to the trouble of looking up when is Easter & its apparently the end of March next year, which could cause me a problem as I have already picked its easter sunday outfit...

www.escapade.co.uk/childrens-costumes-sale/general-kids-costumes/wabbit-precious-ch-885352ts.asp

Sooooooooooo cute. I really am a sucker for babies in fancy dress. Lucky its not a christmas baby cos I totally would have popped it in a red suit /w fake beard (girl or boy)

ratbagcatbag · 19/09/2012 15:43

hehe, easter is early next year, but I am pleased I go off on maternity before, it means I get extra days pay for all the bank holidays so I can tag an extra week on at the end of the 18 weeks full pay I get!!

trying2bpos · 19/09/2012 16:19

thanks for info haveA will have a look tonight at bumpf to see where I got those stats from!

Hey username too cute and just remember they make santa outfits for 8mo old babies too!

that's great to know ratbag and as I have my birthday towards the end of March I may just not go back after that , hehe!

birdbrain17 · 19/09/2012 16:25

Yay just got home from scan appointment and everything looks fine! Such a relief to see the little blob wriggling around kicking arms and legs, I feel so much more relaxed now I've seen there's a baby in there where it's supposed to be Grin only disappointment is my due date got moved 3 days so I thought I reached the massive 12 week milestone today but actually I'm 11+4 still really happy though!!
hope everyone has had a good day and has good scans when it's their turn Smile Smile

magictorch · 19/09/2012 16:41

Ahhh, more lovely scan news, so pleased for everyone.

Username, that outfit is just adorable. So cute.

I had my booking in appointment today and have got my scan appointment for 3 October, when I'll be 13+2. Seems an age away. Not sure that we'll be having nuchal scan.

Midwife was lovely, although there was some confusion filling in all the forms re. dates and family history due to us using a donor in the fertility treatment that had led to this little bump. Doesn't seem to be a space for that one on the forms!

Can't wait for the 3 October now. Jealous of Giddypants being able to sneak in scans Grin

11+2

toobreathless · 19/09/2012 17:11

:) at all the talk of Easter, DD was born on Easter Sunday two years ago. It also happened to be St George's Day, 23rd April. Sure someone here will have a St George's day baby.

Great to hear more good scam news Grin

toobreathless · 19/09/2012 17:12

Easter SATURDAY not Sunday, dear me, my brain!

aufaniae · 19/09/2012 17:21

usernamegoeshere DS was born on Christmas Eve and we brought him home on Christmas day. I've got a lovely picture of him at Christmas dinner in a little deer outfit Grin

Christmas day was a brilliant day to bring a baby home. We went to my parents for the afternoon, and basically sat around being brought lots of lovely food and a little champagne. It felt very special :)

Pretty sure it's not going to be anything like that this time!

aufaniae · 19/09/2012 17:23

Actually that sounds very lazy of me! But walking was a bit of an issue at the time (Ouch!)

BonaDea · 19/09/2012 17:30

Congratulations everyone and so glad to hear that mine was not the only complete wriggler in the batch!!

Another thing we saw - which I think was related to the fact that there was a registrar in practising with the songographer - was an image of baby from the bottom up. In otherwords, we just saw the soles of its two tiny little feet from underneath. If you get a chance to see that view -ask for it!

miarosemum · 19/09/2012 18:50

Bonadea we saw blobs little feet today from this angle too! And hands waving everywhere, they must have so much room in there at moment!

EmpressMatilda · 19/09/2012 19:24

Wow. Sounds like you ladies have been having some wonderful scans Smile The thought of those tiny feet is so lovely!

Sooo nervous about mine. Have bought my first set of maternity clothes today (despite still having no bump) which has probably jinxed it Wink

Terrified of NT result. Not sure I'd be willing to risk the follow-up tests but DH is absolutely adamant I must if necessary. A row would probably ensue. Yikes. I am not religious but find myself praying like mad that the result is OK. Please, please let it all be OK.

11 weeks today Smile

FactOfTheMatter · 19/09/2012 19:30

I've finally got my scan date through - for second week in Oct. But it says to take my 'handheld notes' with me - which I don't have, since community midwives haven't been in touch yet. I will have to contact GP again I think.
I keep having tiny amounts of spotting, but while it's obviously worrying, i'm managing to rationalise it, and just try and take it easy. Very small amounts of brown tinged mucus, and both times it's been back to normal within a day.

8+5 (i think!)

IfAtFirstUDontSucceed · 19/09/2012 20:00

Wow, I've missed so much over the last few days, can't believe how many of you have had your scans - congrats to you all :) Doesnt seem like two minutes since we were all complaining that 12 weeks was aaaagggggggeeesss away!

I got my scan appointment through the door yesterday, 2nd of October, when I'll be 13+4, so a bit late. I can't complain though, as I made them away that I was on holiday next week, so they've done well to get me in two days after I get home. Hopefully the holiday will help take my mind off the days slowly ticking away.

Finally feel like a cloud has been lifted, and can function at work without needing a constant slap round the face. Although, I still have the odd waves of nausea which take me by surprise.

Found I'm starting to need a wee in the night, which I NEVER do, but have had to get up every night without fail for the last week. As daft as it sounds, I don't mind as when I get woken for a wee, as my bladder pushes my bump out, so I get a chance of actually feeling pregnant Blush every other time, it's non existent!

wishfulthinking1 · 19/09/2012 20:01

MrsSimkins · 19/09/2012 20:19

wishful I know how u feel I've got a rotten cold too. Feel absolutely awful especially when I asked the pharmacist what I could take and was told 'nothing' :( So I've drunk my body weight in orange juice for the vitamin c and I'm off to bed to try and sleep it away!

somewherebecomingrain · 19/09/2012 20:35

do you need to drink lots of water before the nuchal?

anyone had a c-section for their last birth, and feel the scar is hurting as the baby grows?

xxx

birdbrain17 · 19/09/2012 21:00

Sending a hug to those with colds I had one over the weekend, every time I coughed felt like I pulled every stomach muscle!!

somewhere you don't have to drink lots of water but you should drink a bit if your bladder is full it makes it easier for them to see the baby. When is your scan?

kellestar · 19/09/2012 21:03

somewhere I think it is normal to feel that stretch. SiL had real discomfort so she massaged it with bio oil to keep it soft and help reduce the stretchy pains. A friend at toddler group has just outed herself and she didn't have any stretch marks last time at all, however she's already got them this time round and they really ache.

I've moved to actual vomitting and continued nausea now. Yuk! I also had a migraine this morning and DD was determined to be noisy. Think I also have a cold coming too. I got quite a few last time, steaming with olbas oil and vaporub chest rubs. Also rub vaseline around your nostrils when you aren't out in public as your nose won't be so sore or red. I also bought the balsam tissues, very soft on the nose and again less redness. I friend dropped round some lovely apple, cinnamon and cherry herbal tea last time from a local tea shop and it was divine when ill as the cinnamon is quite warming.

Teapig · 19/09/2012 21:17

Lovely to hear more fabulous scan news today, so pleased for everyone.

Hope you feel better wishful and mrs simkins, I prescribe plenty of vitamin c and feet up in front of the tv.

Bona I hear you on this preggars malarkey being a waiting game, I just have no patience. The trouble is I have a work trip abroad for almost my whole 12th week. I'm going to have my MW appointment next week and then call the hospital a couple of days later, thanks for the tip on that Ratbag. If my scan turns out to be v late I'll go for a private one.

Roll on 12 weeks! 9+0

MrsSimkins · 19/09/2012 21:44

Thanks for the well wishes ladies!
kellestar that tea sounds amazing do u know if its brand u can get anywhere else?
Love hearing everyones scan stories, mines a week today and I can't wait to see and feel all the things your all talking about!
Won't it be lovely when we're all past the 12 week/scan stage and can just be excited and (hopefully) glowing as I'm told WILL happen when the spotty bloated tired bit subsides! X

LikeCandy · 20/09/2012 06:25

Wow congratulations on all the positive scans ladies!
Mine is a week tomorrow and I'm so impatient!

I had a horrible dream last night that I miscarried the baby, it was so graphic and felt so real, I woke up wondering how I was going to tell my mum Sad I've been having some pretty odd dreams recently, but this was the first one where I was pregnant. Eurgh!

Hurry up 28th so I can see baby!
