Well, I had a lovely day, and so did DH. Both kids at school/ nursery and he had a rare day off, so we went back to bed Grin Blush Shock Wink

kirrinIsland · 30/08/2012 18:36

hope you're feeling better now cacacaz

My baby will be dressed mostly in hand-me-downs, some of which were already handmedowns when her big sister hand them! With some Asda, H&M and debenhams stuff thrown for good measure. Mothercare seem to have got their act together a bit as well, so might be buying a few bits from them if I need to.

kirrinIsland · 30/08/2012 18:39

limpit I bet he did! Maybe get a second opinion before signing up to anything?

jaylee89 · 30/08/2012 18:43

well well well VQ sounds like the perfect day to me (you lucky thing) Grin

i went to the park with DD and mother hubered was lovely and warm but then the wind picked up so we left around half 5.

30 weeks on sunday and cant actually believe it 10 WEEKS LEFT ??? Shock

YellowWellies · 30/08/2012 18:48

Jeez whooping cough would lead to lots of wet knickers for me at my current pelvic floor integrity. I have to run to the bathroom when DH reads me something funny as it is ... (should I just give in and get Tena lady?)

Glad you're feeling better.

Brockle · 30/08/2012 20:55

Hopethe whooping cough is on the mend cacacaz. Sounds yucky.

I have had a lovely relaxing day as the boys and DH went off for a four hour cycle ride so I spent two hours on the sofa and then had a nap in the afternoon. Feel so much better.

After my loft sort little one is going to be in handmedowns mostly although I have a severe lack of sleepsuits and vests (so worn after two boys I got rid of them). Ebay been really good for cheap new Next stuff and ASDA for the vests other than that hand me downsall the way. Clothes last so well now I have things that still look like new.

TheDetective · 30/08/2012 20:56

I've got a few bits from Asda and Tesco, but mostly baby stuff is from Next, either new, from the sale or from eBay! I loved Next stuff when DS was small, and still do now! It's rubbish once they get a bit older though! DS's stuff is mostly H&M now!

I don't like all the character clothing, never have done, for DS, me, or this bump! A lot of Asda baby clothes are winnie the pooh, mickey mouse, tigger etc, and I just don't find it appealing. Out of the supermarkets, I've found Tesco's stuff to be more my thing. Each to their own!

I've got my eye on a few things in M&S, and one or two bits in Mothercare. I also picked up that set in Matalan with 'Just hatched' on! And a couple of half price romper suits in Boots!

I got really horrible leg cramp while decorating the nursery, I'm sure DP was about ready to ring an ambulance as I was busy running round the house in tears because it just wouldn't go off! 20 minutes of leg cramp is not my idea of fun! I must admit to seriously questioning my belief that I can manage a home birth with minimal pain relief after that! Glad I'm not the only one!! I keep waking with the cramps too, quite a lot really. Never had it last time around!

Slightly depressing is the news that my 10 year old DS has now over taken me in foot size! He's been in a 6 for the last, ummmmm, 3 months maybe? About 2 months ago I spent a fortune on 6's for him, last week his dad bought him a pair of Nike trainers in a 6. Today - school shoe shopping - he's only friggin' gone in to a 7!! I could cry! I've managed to order him a pair of school shoes from M&S, but not before trying every other shop first! Mens shoes are UGLY and EXPENSIVE! Well, all the ones we saw were anyway! Oh, and to add to the mix, he's grown 5cm in 5 weeks and now his new uniform doesn't fit! Good job I think I can return it for bigger sizes (fingers crossed). And a good job I had the thought to try it before he goes back! Glad I didn't get the shoes at the start of the holiday at least!

DS is now just 4cm shorter than me! Oh dear!

applepieinthesky · 30/08/2012 21:12

We just found out that DP's SIL is pregnant Smile She is only about 6 weeks but couldn't wait to tell us. I'm so pleased for them, they've been together a long time and will make fantastic parents. So glad my baby will have a cousin the same age as him.

It was me that said about the leg cramps and subsequently doubting how I'm going to cope with childbirth. I had been saying I want as natural a birth as possible but now I'm not so sure. Whatever it takes Grin I've been thinking about it all day. I can't believe I've only got 11 weeks (less if he's early) to prepare myself for it. I've been walking around with my head in the clouds for 29 weeks!

horseylady · 30/08/2012 21:32

Just seen my cousins week old baby. That. Has. To. Come. Out. Of. Mr.

She then asked if my mum was going to be there? I said no, just dh and if he decides he can't cope I'll go alone. I appreciate I'll not actually give a shit while giving birth who's there but people may well annoy me!! She said she found it supportive both mothers being there. I'm not so sure.

Also I get no labour ward tour and no nhs ante classes. Theyve stopped doing them. I can go online for a virtual tour and read the leaflets. Good job I booked privately!! Also is it worth paying for a private room on the maternity ward? Or is it really not that bad being on a ward with 4 other women. I'm kind of feeling a bit bothered today about the whole hospital thing. Also a bit bothered that mother and sister may become a bit over powering and make me cry!!

As for clothes, erm mainly asda lol have some m&s and some next so he'll be dressed like me!! I live none pregnant and outside work on jeans and wellies.....

Peaky1 · 30/08/2012 21:57

I started with buying tesco/asda etc and family have bought a couple of things from next and mother care. Then I went to a car boot sale and I don't think i'll ever look back! I got LOADS of stuff for prices like 50p each - brilliant! Most of it either hardly worn or not at all. I was shocked when I looked at the tables full of clothes that used to belong to one child. So I've ended up with clothes from all over the place like Next and Gap etc for next to nothing. Ace!

TheDetective · 30/08/2012 21:58

It can be worth it Horsey if you are in more than one night. It depends really, You might end up in a room with a few other lovely ladies. Or you might end up in the Jeremy kyle room, and visiting time resembles a zoo. I'd just take a chance to be honest. You may end up with a side room anyway, especially if you end up with a c/s. Most Trusts have a bay or two for c/s women, and then after the first night you are moved out to your own room, to make way for the next batch of women coming through! Depends on the set up of the ward tbh. Ask the community midwife :)

I've just twigged that any time in the next 6-11 weeks, I'm having a baby Shock. Errrrrr....!

Also, I have less than 4 weeks before my annual leave starts. Am working no later than 14th October, but I have 3 weeks to do 10 shifts in, so I won't be working full time, I'll be working to suit my own needs! Am a little concerned that I'm going to get very bored though, I'm not good with too much time on my hands! Hmmmm.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 30/08/2012 22:00

Evening all. Smile

Clothes? We have such a mixture, there is a gorgeous little second hand child/baby clothes shop down the road from me, the lady built the shop in her back garden and there is a little play park for the kids and it's is so cheap! I got a huge bag full of nb and 0-3 stuff originally from Harrods for £5 Grin
We also have bits from H&M, Tesco, Asda, Mothercare etc DP goes a bit mad when baby buying but we've saved a lot on bedding etc with me making it all so I don't mind too much.

I have got to the point now though where sitting has just become so unbearably uncomfortable I either have to lounge/lay or stand (which I can't do for long because of the SPD) I physically cannot get into a comfortable or even non painful position while sitting, little belly dweller just seems to be taking up all of my insides!

I went to Asda's baby event, it was shite tbh, I got the Johnson baby box though and more nappies/wipes. We have quite the stock pile under the cot now. Grin
FIL wants to provide the first 2 years worth of nappies like he has done for SIL's daughter but I'm not sure I feel comfortable excepting it, it must cost a fortune.

I have another scan/consultant apt on the 15th and physio on the 5th.

I've got DP to rub my bump with tummy butter tonight the skin was getting very sore, it split with DS2 so I don't want that happening again.

TheDetective · 30/08/2012 22:02

Am getting temped to just keep doing extras and see how much I can get saved, and take longer off, but I'll end up paying 40% tax if I do, because the shifts will all be in October... Hmmmm.

TheDetective · 30/08/2012 22:08

DP has been giving me all over massages with cocoa butter Tits and he's getting rather good at it now Grin

I don't care about the stretch marks anymore, just enjoying the relaxation! I think he enjoys it too, as it's as close as he can get to me right now Grin. I have new rules though. Boxers must stay on. After being repeatedly poked in the bum/back/stomach through out the last 4 massages.

My mum bought DS's nappies til he stopped wearing them at 2 1/2. It was a great help. Won't get that this time though! She has a Costco card so she just used to buy them in bulk!

Peaky1 · 30/08/2012 22:12

Sorry, I couldn't help but giggle at 'cocoa butter Tits' then Grin

horseylady · 30/08/2012 22:16

Yeah was assuming I'd be on a ward. Will see how it goes lol trust is very very strict with visiting times and numbers (thankfully!)

mrswee · 30/08/2012 22:23

Evening all

you have been busy as usual!

I bought a couple of unisex Polarn o Pyret outfits in the sale, which DD 'helped' me choose. other than that I have bought nothing else clothes wise, but did see some lovely wrap vests in H&M so will probably get them and then wait and see what pops out and who gives us what.
If it's a girl then we are sorted. If it's a boy, I do have quite a bit of unisex stuff which I have out aside.

We bought a gliding crib for £25 from gumtree. Just need a mattress.

Must start buying nappies soon and s couple of emergency bottles. May be an electric pump.... who mentioned that one on amazon that was a good price??

I wish DH would give me massages... he's too busy every night renovating the new flat, I wouldn't dare ask!

He's down there right now building an Ikea kitchen... I'm sure it's a joyful experiance!

Limpit80 · 30/08/2012 22:25

I have a mixture of second hand and new clothes too, but not really sure I have everything we need. I seem to have lots of vests and sleepsuits but not much else. Oh and my mum has become a little bit obsessed with buying tiny baby hats for some reason Hmm.
Someone is lending me a sling and I have put a deposit down on a babystyle oyster pushchair. I think I get paid tomorrow so will be getting a few more bits.

Went to the reusable nappy shop the other day and was tepted by the prefolds, but not sure whether I should invest a bit more. Any thoughts?

I was planning to work til half term which will take me to 39 wks, but have been getting very tired recently, so may move it forward a week.

mrswee · 30/08/2012 22:31

horsey When I had DD I was put in a room of 4, I hadn't slept for days before I had her but she slept like a dream that night, however a 3 other babies didnt sleep, also the woman next to me had to have lots of treatment, midwives were in and out like buses, the lights were never properly off. it was a total nightmare if I am honest and I begged to go home just to get a rest. Which meant I left the hospital a bit early, before feeding was well established and before DD had really awoken from her drug induced birth. It was a bit of a car crash when we got home really becuase we weren't ready.
My hospital doesn't do private rooms but if they did I would do it this time. I intend to attempt to try and stay in hospital a bit longer this time, even though they will expect me to leave very quickly with it being my second.

mrswee · 30/08/2012 22:34

Peaky me too... tehe!

Dixiebell · 30/08/2012 23:05

Being on a ward with other new mums and babies = no sleep at all. Just be prepared for that! I had to stay in for 3 nights after DS's birth as we were both on antibiotics and he was a bit jaundiced. By the third night I was begging them to let me sleep somewhere quieter - it was a ward of 6. Luckily they let me go home. For one night it's okay but any more than that...DH and I said we'd pay for a private room next time round but I hadn't remembered, perhaps we will. There is something nice about being on a ward with other mums in the daytime, but at night when it's not even your baby that's keeping you awake, it's not so fun!

horseylady · 31/08/2012 07:05

Oh ok maybe I'll ask if I can then? Or at least find out how much it is!! I've no idea how long they keep you guess it varies from person to person.

I know my friend was in for 6 days and hated every second! Will see. Right must get off to work!!

DesperateHousewife21 · 31/08/2012 07:26

I hated the stay on the ward too, I was with 5 other women and the babies cried all night (inc ds at one point!) I couldn't wait to get home. I'm hoping that at the birth centre it might be a bit better this time.

The baby has clothes from next, gap and m&s so far and will prob have a few tesco bits after tomorrow.

Passmethecrisps · 31/08/2012 07:30

Morning,

I hadn't given any thought to staying on a ward. I have not seen any mention of being able to pay for a private room. I will look into it - I sleep extremely lightly at the best of times so I can't imagine how miserable I would be if I have to stay in overnight for a couple of days.

Absolutely exhausted today - really long day at work yesterday finished with a parents' information evening. All fine but I didn't get home util after 9 so I am like a half shut knife this morning. I am sitting here cross because DH has insisted on making me a boiled egg for breakfast. I don't want a boiled egg and I told him this. I should be in the car by now but he is still peeling eggs. Me, grumpy? Never! I am sure I will enjoy the egg when I get it.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 31/08/2012 07:42

I was in and out with both my previous births p I hadn't given a thought to staying in! If I had to I would just stay on the ward I think, I stayed in for 8 months on my pregnancy with ds1 in total and it was never that bad.

I am wide awake after a horrible nightmare.

Not sure what we're doing today yet.
