Can I throw in TENS recommendations to the debate? I'm a physio (albeit paeds physio, so don't use them anymore) and so the ones I know of are all from medical supplies and I've only ever seen them hired out to patients with back pain. What have people bought/hired in the past and would recommend?

rowingdowntheriver · 28/08/2012 07:53

shellybobs and horsey where do you both get all your energy from?! I've got huge admiration for both of you!

The nesting instinct has kicked in for me too but not enough to make me get up off my lazy backside and actually do any cleaning. And Horsey, it sounds like you are making the most of your free time doing things that I normally love (camping, mountain climbing) but at t moment am wary of doing incase they make my hip/back/bum pain worse. I've not even got SPD it turns out, just normal pregnancy aches and pains and a propensity to whinge.

Love the 'shirking from home'! I've been doing a lot of that since I've been told I'm being made redundant. In fact have only been in to the office for a couple of hours since I was told and have only logged on to the computer from home for about 2 hours to do any work!

Reading this post back, I sound v lazy!

TitsalinaBumSquash · 28/08/2012 07:57

We're off to Cadbury World today. Smile 3 1/2 hr drive! We're trying to squeeze some stuff in with the boys before squidglet comes along.

I think little one has turned now, the big kicks are up top although he likes to wiggle like a champ so who knows how many times he'll flip flop before due date.

rowingdowntheriver · 28/08/2012 07:58

Also, I've been thinking about Rory as a name if we have a boy. I told DH yesterday and he thought that was hilarious as my 'r's come out a little like 'w's Sad

Am going to practice my 'r's today as our DS is called Alexander and I think Rory and Alexander go nicely together.

StuntNun · 28/08/2012 08:13

I got my cot mattress from Mothercare, the same one as I got for DS1 and DS2. It's a spring mattress with an Amicor layer that doesn't allow dust mites. We have a lot of allergies in the family so that's why I want to minimise dust exposure.

We're off to a butterfly farm today as DH took the day off to spend with the boys before they go back to school on Thursday. DS2 used to be scared of butterflies but now he says he loves them so we'll see how he goes. This place has a garden, maze, playground and most importantly a tea shop so it should be a good day so long as the weather holds.

I feel ok so will keep going for as long as I can!! It was much harder work than normal tbh walking on the flat is so much easier!! But we were there and so did some walks. It also wasn't a typical 9-10 hour walking day either!! Shame but no way could I have managed that. Going to do an 8 mile flat walk today then come home :( but we've done this walk before! It's keeping my legs strong :)

Will go to asda when we get back too. Also need a matress so need to look into those.

applepieinthesky · 28/08/2012 09:30

Gosh I feel so lazy compared to you horsey. I don't know how you do it!

rowing I love the name Alexander but it another one that DP vetoed. Sounds lovely with Rory as well.

applepieinthesky · 28/08/2012 09:30

it's

applepieinthesky · 28/08/2012 09:42

Just looked on the Asda website and the Chicco video monitor is now back in stock. I might accidentally add it to my basket and whizz through checkout Grin

horseylady · 28/08/2012 09:45

Apple - it's all relative to what you're used to I guess. Both dh and I have always done a fair amount of excerise. Nothing huge but a good base level of fitness. We both love hill walking so try to get out a bit but have done less as the bump got bigger. I wasn't supposed to travel to the Pyrenees with them, but had to as my friend had to go to work and dh didn't want me alone for 24 hours with no one near by.

Had fab time though!! Will bring baby next year and do some more!! It's beautiful!!

kissyfur · 28/08/2012 11:06

Morning all

Made my first big purchase for the little one over the weekend, have bought a little bedside cot off eBay, it's a Piccollo one. Was £110 which I thought was v reasonable as the baby bay ones are nearly £300.

Am very tempted by that video monitor too as we will need the monitor we have at the mo for DD, will have to run it by DP tho as we've got to have new brake pads and discs on the car today which is gonna cost £275 :( why do cars always go wrong at the worst times?!

applepieinthesky · 28/08/2012 11:09

It sounds amazing. I wish I was fit enough to do something like that.

It's payday today and DP gets paid on friday as well so going to get a few more bits but need to try not to go mad because we've got an expensive month. I've seen a Jasper Conran coat I want to get which is £17 in Debenhams but I've found one on ebay brand new with tags still on for £9 so think I'll get that.

YellowWellies · 28/08/2012 11:31

DH is on orders to buy the monitor today as it's back in stock and my invoice won't be paid until Friday so he's Mr moneybags as it's his pay day!

Just had estate agent round taking photos of the house eeek. Its going on the market this weekend - wah. On the plus side already got two friends / friends of friends who are seriously interested. Just hope we get a good price in this falling market to allow us a decent deposit on a place in Fife. Wahooo to being closer to family.

don't need to buy a birthing ball - my sis has just posted her old one up (uninflated of course, have a funny mental image of a huge wrapped birthing ball in the back of the posties van)....

WaitingForMe · 28/08/2012 11:37

Just got a new client project. My friend with the now one month old baby. Her husband started a row this morning about her not working Angry

Had her in tears and I've promised to go over tomorrow to help her with her CV (I won't be charging her). I'm shaking with anger. We had plans to introduce our husbands but I now want nothing to do with the bastard.

kissyfur · 28/08/2012 11:44

waiting your poor friend! Sad some men can be such idiots!

FatimaLovesBread · 28/08/2012 11:58

What a nob waiting! Why is he expecting her to work already?

I feel crap today. After my early wake I started with heartburn. Then when I got to work I kept going really dizzy and light headed and clammy do had to sit down for a good hour. Ended up throwing up my breakfast in a bucket Sad
I feel a bit better now but still have a thick head and a headache.

NervousAt20 · 28/08/2012 12:03

The Chicco baby monitor is back in stock on the asda website ladies, so I'd order quick Smile ordered mine this morning

This is my last week of extra shifts!!! I'm so glad even though I'll really miss the money! It's just starting to be too much now so I'm very glad there almost over and I'll still have my normal hours for a while yet

valium it's very true what you said about its amazing how you love someone so much that you haven't seen yet! I felt my first lot of hiccups this morning, woke up and was watching for ages then woke DP too and he could feel it

Anyone got any recommendations for changing bags? I want to get everything finished in the next 2-3 weeks or so

WaitingForMe · 28/08/2012 12:18

I've no idea where he's coming from Fatima. She's been a SAHM since she was pregnant with their 2yr old son. They have a nice lifestyle so I'm worried that this annoyance over her not earning means he's messed up somewhere financially.

Sure puts my getting annoyed with DH over a canvas bag into perspective Blush

Kyzordz · 28/08/2012 12:21

Just ordered the video monitor thingy, I wasn't sure which one I was going to get but that one is so cheap and with such good reviews I thought i'd go for it. Still a few things left to get but i'm pacing myself so's not to spend too much at once and also so I don't run out of things to do before bean arrives! I need to get the changing bag, and also start picking up bits and bobs for us for the hospital bag. Might get a couple of things today when I go shopping, we'll see :)

DebussyHead · 28/08/2012 12:31

Yay just orderded my Chicco monitor, checked last night and they were sold out. Thanks for the heads up ladies! Dont forget the code CHICC5 to get extra £5 off, thanks nervous for that top tip. I already have a montior for DD1 but it is old and battery charge is rubbish, starts beeping after only an hour or so as so low on battery.

YellowWellies · 28/08/2012 13:07

From experience of pals, the ones with the nicest lifestyles - especially where the Mrs isn't involved in the finances - are usually the most in debt. Often the fella feels he has to keep his Mrs in the manner to which she has become accostomed and in the last half decade with stalling wages - many are supplementing with debt in the hope that things will pick up soon. It's a dangerous strategy and eventually leads to the bloke snapping and demanding the woman works. I've got friends who are just going through this and are now a bankrupt estate agent and a supermarket check out assistant which is quite a change from their old aga / boden / landrover days. To be honest though I think they are happier. What tipped them over the edge was ironically, the loss of tax credits. They seemed so rich I had no clue they would be entitled. It turns out it was all an illusion though.

Whereas those with the shabbiest cars, those who don't wear designer clothing etc - they're the ones with a potful in the bank. I don't get why people do it - I mean if someone wouldn't want to be my mate because we drive an old banger or have been known to buy clothes from Tesco - then it's no loss to me.

YellowWellies · 28/08/2012 13:26

Wahey DH has got the monitor. We were umming and awwing about a video one but at that price and with the positive reviews - it was a no brainer. Not much left to get. Need to do a wee audit of baby clothes to figure out what's left to get. Wow can't believe we're this organised. Hah! Just got a housemove to throw into the mix to up the stress.... and keeping the sodding house clean for viewings. Anyone else have a husband who seems to shed possessions the second they walk in the door?

WaitingForMe · 28/08/2012 14:22

I think you're right YellowWellies. It's why I'm so fiercely independent. I love and trust DH but would never put our finances solely in his hands. And it can be tough not to try and keep up appearances. After buying our lovely cot etc my car accident meant that the new car budget was what we got from the insurers. A few years depreciation and a high excess is why I'm driving a banger with 204,000 miles on the clock when I previously had a old and fairly unimpressive sports car. We could easily have borrowed enough to replace it with a fancier car.

I got my blood test results back and I'm anaemic. Fingers crossed some high dose iron tablets help boost my lethargy.

YellowWellies · 28/08/2012 14:30

Erm I'm sure there must be some iron in chocolate (she says hopefully). Anaemia is horrible, I had it when young as was once a wee skinny thing - (looks sadly at fat arse and saddlebags). Hope the iron tablets help you.

I think driving a banger is a sign of character and anyone who views it as a negative status symbol has clearly never met the real upper class. I went to uni at Oxford and it was really funny at the end of term - the kids who were really rich i.e. sons and daughters of peers were all picked up in old bangers. It was the trying hard but one pay packet away from bankruptcy gang who were all in brand new land rovers.

Hence why I look like a tramp most days... Grin I'm spreading the illusion of being secretly verrrrr verrrr rich. Unfortunately I'm doing such a good job, even my bank manager doesn't know...

Catbag · 28/08/2012 14:34

I've just added myself to the list of people who have caved in and bought the Chicco monitor. Compared to the prices of the ones that I was looking at on Ebay, it was a no-brainer as I had resigned myself to the £145 that they cost on there. Thank you all for the heads-up. Ooo, and for the congratulations on the nuptials. You are all very kind. Once I get some photos back off people, I shall pick a suitably flattering one (if such exists) and post on the Facebook group Grin
