Here's a new link for us all to chatter on

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Clarella · 20/08/2012 14:04

I Second h & m too - some long teeshirts with 3/4 sleeves cover bump and bum with leggings is all I'm existing in at mo! Oh and v good 7.99 'taupe' floaty cotton boatneck folded up sleeves shirt in size 22 makes equally effective blouse for covering bump and bum with leggings (non preg normally a size 8!)

mwahmwah · 20/08/2012 14:10

Omg size 22 from pre-preg size 8? Shock hee hee! H+m are small made Wink

Clarella · 20/08/2012 14:19

Lol I know, those cravings....

utopian99 · 20/08/2012 14:31

another vote for H&M here, although IO are great for actual maternity clothes, just not the widest range of styles. Also finding Abercrombie/Hollister are great for vests to wear under cardis etc - super soft, stretchy and really long..

MyDaydream · 20/08/2012 14:45

Clarella you shouldn't feel like a failure, your work sound like they've done nothing to accommodate your pregnancy needs so far. I'd also ignore the 22 on your H&M top, they're crazy with their sizes I've never had a standard H&M size because it varies so much.
Bubbles he doesn't do the vanishing all day very often, and honestly if he says "I'm going to so and sos house" then I know he won't be back until late. He didn't get yesterday I wasn't annoyed that he spent all day working on a project, I get that he's finding work hard and what he was doing was his de stress. I was annoyed I asked for half an hour of his time to drink a cup of tea with me, and he couldn't do that because as soon as he sat down he jumped up to go for a run. He doesn't get all that the time he spends out at work I'm here by myself and I find it really lonely, especially since we can't massively afford for me to go out to things to meet people now I'm not working, we don't get his first wage from work for another month and all our spare cash is going towards moving house and baby.

Does anyone have any recommendations for hypnobirthing CDs/books? It's something I want to give a go, but whenever I look on Amazon I get a bit confused by how many there are! I just want something to relax me so I can stay at home as long as possible.
Also if we get the house we've applied for it's only a mile from the hospital, is it mad that I'm aiming to walk in if it's during the day? DP keeps pulling Hmm face when I suggest it.

blackcurrants · 20/08/2012 14:55

Morning all!
I'm in the USA and I used the Marie Mongan Hypnobirthing books, and cds - and ended up paying for classes (most expensive thing i bought for DS1, cheapskate that I am - got a second hand everything, apart from mattress and carseat!) ...

I LOVED hypnobirthing. It got me through a (badly-managed, imo) induction from 0-6cm dilated (and that dilation happened in three hours, so those were some pretty intense contractions!) feeling strong, calm, powerful and while it did still hurt the pain was very manageable and the whole process was extremely awesome.
At 7cm they got worried about my blood pressure and I ended up having an epidural, a 4 hour nap, then waking as it wore off and pushing DS out... so it wasn't all hippy floaty whalesong natural for me, but I am SO pleased that I had hypnobirthing for the early stages, it was GREAT and I will be using it again. Also great for getting you back to sleep after your mind whirls at 3am! Sooo relaxing!

2blessed · 20/08/2012 15:27

signing in ladies Smile
Hope everyone is good and enjoyed the weather over the weekend.
Nothing much to report here, handed in my Mat B1 form today - leaving early December. Glad that's out of the way!
Just enjoying the kicks and somersaults really. Not enjoying the tossing and turning in the nights, finding it difficult to get into a comfy position at night. Does anyone else chat to their bump? People think I'm mad, but I don't care...
Think I might try hypnobirthing as well as I'm a real wuss with pain.

SpottyTeacakes · 20/08/2012 15:59

Bubbless not a cut I don't think but that's why I thought it might be a spot Blush

MyDaydream I think you are a teeny bit crazy. IMO by the time they want you to come to hospital (three contractions every ten minutes last a minute each) it will take you a good few hours to walk that mile.

Pru I like having a pushchair to load up with various toys/blankets/food/purchases/own coat etc etc. no reason why you can't wait and see though Smile

Queenofsiburbia · 20/08/2012 16:16

Have to admit, having been brave & looked at all the different pain relief options during labour, on mumsnet, I also think you might be abit optimistic to want to walk a mile to hospital!

Some people end up needing and begging for pain relief that in other circumstances you would probably run a mile away from, epi's etc!!!!
Grin

Queenofsiburbia · 20/08/2012 16:25

Spotty, I do hope for your sake it is a spot. Fingers crossed.

TMI ALERT....I also have a Blush thing to ask everyone. Since I've had my cold & loads of coughing I am not exactly, err, watertight down below. It's worse if I'm half asleep. I am now wearing towels & praying it gets better once cold has gone. Really dread in case DH notices I'm wearing a towel & is Confused.
I do lots of PF exercises so not sure if this is normal or I'm unusual, especially at only 25 weeks. Dreading later on & also terrified that normal birth will leave me in an even worse situ. So

So embarrassing I nearly NC'd & put in a different thread. But everyone here is so nice, I'm hoping for sympathetic response.

Second third timers, I'd love your opinions.

PrunellaDeVille · 20/08/2012 16:33

queen. don't be Blush here we're all in this together - good or bad, through Shock Confused Wink or Blush.
My big book that's full of info has told me to expect 'leakage' of just that sort from just about this time, so if it's exacerbated by sneezes and coughs i'm not surprised

minipie · 20/08/2012 16:40

hello all, just found the new thread and it's already 5 pages! Nothing to report atm so just marking place.

Queen I'm a first timer but gather that kind of leakage is a lot more common than you'd think (i.e. nobody talks about it but it happens loads!) especially if you have a baby resting on your bladder. I know I've spent half the weekend going to the bloody loo, soo bored of needing a wee!

good to hear the endorsement of hypnobirthing - I have been considering it, think I need to get my arse in gear and get something booked.

knottyhair · 20/08/2012 16:47

Queen, perfectly normal (or at least it is for me!). I'm OK at the moment as long as I can have frequent wees but I had a cough a few weeks ago and had to wear a towel all the time! Don't worry Smile.

Queenofsiburbia · 20/08/2012 16:55

thanks so much for reassurance! Was thinking it was just me or I'm worse than others. Its abit unexpected & feels like losing control... Thinking it would get worse & worse!

God, there's lots to this whole pregnancy thing that isn't all shiny & rose-tinted!

You're stars for replying :)

utopian99 · 20/08/2012 16:58

queen I can't help, being a first timer, except to say not to be embarrassed, we're all in this together and hopefully it will phase back out again now your cold has improved?

kate2boysandabump · 20/08/2012 17:17

queen don't worry, perfectly normal, think of all the extra weight pressing down on your bladder.

I talk to my bump all the time, usually to tell him that I am already on my way to the toilet and would he mind awfully getting off my bladder Hmm

I am sorting out DH and I's bedroom today, with a view to getting rid of at least one piece of furniture. I'm at that terrible stage where I've done loads, but I still can't see the bed, need to get on or DH and I will be in the boys rooms tonight! Comfy as ds2's cabin bed is, our own is much comfier Grin

Bubbless · 20/08/2012 17:31

2blessed im still dragging my heels on when to take my maternity leave! whens your due date / what kind of job do you have if you dont mind me asking?!

queen i think this is the best thread because we all 'know' each other. i often post in here what i dont want an evil responce to in AIBU?!
if it helps, i cut myself whilst shaving yesterday and had to get DP to finish....
im not entirely sure whats 'normal' but from what ive read a bit of leakage is to be expected.. keep working on your PF and if its still bad afterwards then there are specalists and stuff your doc can refer you to to give you better / more in depth exercises, not the end of the world :)
and if your DP asks id say your just having a bit more discharge than usual..... would he like to see / smell / touch? and im sure he will leave it all well alone!!

i wish i talked to my bump but i feel like a bit of a numpty- even when im alone Hmm
anyone else not talking to bump?!

knottyhair · 20/08/2012 17:40

Bubbless, I don't really talk to my bump much! DS does all the time and DP does when he sees the odd movement (not a lot at the moment!). I think last time I did when I was a bit further on and I could see the baby kicking and stuff.

utopian99 · 20/08/2012 18:04

bubbless i'm not talking to the bump, although DH is very chatty to it. I think it's his way of bonding, as he can't have Crumb inside him and is a bit jealous (ah how that will change soon why he sees the enormo-growth spurt).

I do talk to the cats though, who clearly don't know or give a stuff what I'm talking about... Hmm

gilsbubbles · 20/08/2012 18:15

I'm trying to chat but it's hard not to feel silly. I learnt the hard way that the ladies loo in work isn't the best place if your trying aloud being labelled a nutter. Grin

oh and queen crossing and clenching when I sneeze or the bus goes over a pothole has become a necessity.

OP posts:
MyDaydream · 20/08/2012 18:18

The only thing that gets said to baby is "please stop kicking now".

Bellaboo123 · 20/08/2012 18:19

I don't talk to my bump at all really - is that wrong...I think a little part of me still hasn't accepted that there's a baby in there...anyone else feel like this?

Re hypno birthing - is there an app? Wink Would be easier?

My mw appt isn't until next Friday when I'll be 25w 4days - how long do we have to hand in???

ellliebelle · 20/08/2012 18:45

I have the mongan method book and cd for hypnobirthing and really like the. Wish i could afford the classes though as not sure how effective it will be without.

Had a consultant appointment today and have to say it felt like the biggest waste of nhs money ever. It was because i want a home birth and when in labour with dd2had 1 episode of elevated blood preasure. The consultant couldnt find my notes to see how high it was so asked if i could rememeber.....baring in mind dd2 is 3 in 3 weeks and i was in labour at the time....then she asked me 5 times if any medication had been given for it. Then asked why i wanted hb and advised i can obviously still change my mind if i want asked me how long ambulance transfervwould take......surely she should know this not me? Then said i have to have a gtt which i have to go to hospital for but they dont have appointments on my day off work all in all i just feel frustrated with the whole process...

SpottyTeacakes · 20/08/2012 18:49

That sounds annoying ellie maybe your midwife will be more helpful? I had bp of 185/152 when I was in labour and was taking bp pills every hour but I had completely forgotten until my debrief, your consultant sounds a bit clueless!

I don't talk to my bump, might moan at it when I start getting feet in the ribs Grin

Just had Mexican for dinner yummy!

Bellaboo123 · 20/08/2012 19:33

Mmmm I fancy Mexican now...!
