We're on safari with the labour spotting signs... How long till the next baby arrives?

Pull up a birthing ball, sup some raspberry leaf tea and tuck into the 'big boy pineapple balti'. We're on the home straight!

Hi all, Thought it was time to share my story! :)
Well he was due on the 21st and I had a sweep on the same day was 3cm and midwife thought he was coming very soon maybe even that night!
He didnt and nothing at all happened on the next day either!
woke up on Thursday alittle emotional as Hubby was going to work and I had my 5 and 1 year old to look after, had a good cry in the bath and then had a massive energy burst, I got the boys ready, hoovered, did some washing and even bought my hospital bags downstairs! something was just telling me to get ready,
I had a chat to my mum on the phone at 10.30 and said I was having slight twinges nothing special and even joked that I could just be pushing my luck and it could be labour, at 11am got an almighty pain and I knew that this was it, rang dh and was talking to him when I got another one and said yep you need to come home!
All the pains were in my back and making it difficult to walk and dh arrived at 11.20, we asked a neighbour if she could watch my boys as my mum was on her way and left for the hospital, we got there at 11.40am and omg it hurt!
Midwife had a look and said your 8cm and we need to get you round asap as when your waters go you will have a baby, once we got round I needed to push the midwife looked again and said yes I think you do :), I started pushing and soon felt the head come out and heard him gurling, but then his shoulders got stuck and the midwife pressed the alarm and 3 other midwifes came rushing in, they had to hold my legs whilst dh held my arms whilst the midwife pulled him free, eventually he came free and I managed to push him out :)
My beautiful baby weighed 8lb 2oz and I needed no stitches, when we asked what time he was born they said 12.01pm, that meant we had been in the hospital 21 minutes!

I have a question:-

I am now 40+3, have MW appt in the morning, will be asking for a sweep.

But I've been having contractions on and of all day, from 4am this morning! But they come for around 2 hours then disappear :(

My bump has changed shape in the past few days and now the bottom bit of it is sort of 'pointy' and to touch it I can defo feel a shoulder or side of abdomen! Is freaky!

Question is: does anyone else have this? I had DS at 39 weeks so never been so pregnant before. Do you think it's anything to fret about, or just leave it till tomorrow and then show MW.

Would LOVE to have baby today. Please....

fairtradelu · 27/08/2012 16:45

Thanks for the super positive birth story susie. Home births do sound amazing - maybe next time round :)

Needles my LO is forever sticking an elbow or heal out to create a weird lump protruding from my bump - it's always at the top rather than the bottom though. I wouldn't worry, I think they are just so pushed for space now they have to stretch outwards every now and again.

39+6

Nightfall1983 · 27/08/2012 18:22

Is being hungry a sign or am I just a fatty? Been starving all day today, started the day with two big bowls of cereal and was hungry again an hour later and has continued like that all day! Body gearing up for labour? Body trying to put on those last few pounds before I force it into a post-natal diet Grin?

justine09x · 27/08/2012 19:24

I've been like that nightfall I wouldn't worry, last few days I have eaten for England I think it's body gearing up, it's strange it's the same hunger I got when breastfeeding ds so I wonder whether it's our bodies storing it for labour and colostrum? Here's to hoping its a sign xxx

pintofmilk · 27/08/2012 20:50

A SIGN, A SIGN!! Yes eating lots please let it be a SIGN. I too have had the munchies badly for the last 2 days when for the last week or so have only been nibbling food. Please let it be our turn soon.

Have been for another big walk today, had curry, pineapple etc yesterday and nothing to show for it.

Seeing midwife for sweep number 2 tomorrow, hopefully something will happen or its goodbye homebirth and off to hospital. Mind you I am passed caring now.

Susie loved your story, very positive and makes me want this little one out even more.

Miaboo wow that was quick, at least you were prepared and called DH when you did. Congratulations.

Marmite Congratulations to you too. Thanks Hope the visitors haven't casued any problems yet!

41+1

The3Bears · 27/08/2012 21:30

Congratulations on all the new arrivals Grin cant wait too see you all on the postnatal thread :) x

Signet2012 · 27/08/2012 22:17

due date tomorrow!

Sign spotting is as follows:
Extreme hunger!
Nesting
Feel like I have been kicked in the front and back especially my bum bone!

Some questions ladies:
I have not had a show yet> does this always happen or can it not happen or you not notice?
Will I definately know a contraction?

Think that its for now

justine09x · 27/08/2012 22:27

Bum bone pain is good, I personally didn't have a show with my first 2. You will know a contraction I think, but then this is my third and I still wonder the same thing lol xx

NeedlesCuties · 28/08/2012 05:17

Morning!

Can't sleep, so am downstairs on sofa watching TV and surfing net.

Have appt this AM with hospital, will be asking for a sweep as I'm miserable. Have a feeling they will keep me in, not sure why I feel that, but I'm going to bring my bags in the car just in case....

So if you don't hear from me for a few days it's cuz I'm in hospital and won't have internet access.

I have Group B Strep, so will be in hospital for 24-48 hours so baby can be monitored.

Pray for me, send positive vibes my way, please.

Needles xxx

fairtradelu · 28/08/2012 09:06

Due date today! Alas, no signs whatsoever that something is close to happening. We've booked a table at a nice restaurant tonight so we have something to lo

fairtradelu · 28/08/2012 09:08

Oops...
something to look forward to anyway.

Good luck needles. Will be thinking of you today

Poppysnoss · 28/08/2012 11:04

Due date on Friday 31st. I suppose I really should go and finish packing hospital bags, shouldn't I? Especially, as this is my 3rd pregnancy and I've never yet hit my due date.... Grin

Hope everyone well and those of us still waiting, hope you're enjoying the peace while it lasts!

Poppysnoss · 28/08/2012 11:05

Forgot to add this info for the stat list - my hospital will be Borders General Hospital, Melrose... Smile

NeedlesCuties · 28/08/2012 11:58

Just back from hospital.

Baby is happy where it is. All my false alarms in the past week and losing my plug 8 days ago hasn't meant anything as I'm still only 1-2cms and Dr gave me a sweep.

I cried on the way back to the car after the sweep :( Wasn't hugely painful, but it is a bit embarrassing and not pleasant!

Think also I felt stupid cuz it was a male Dr doing it, and there was another male Dr and a female MW present - so I felt a bit 'on show'.

Got date of 3rd Sept for possible induction, but I really just want to go into labour naturally and soon.

Ambi · 28/08/2012 13:02

Needles, I hear you. Just back from a sweep with mw, my last pg I had a sweep with a male consultant, it felt far more unpleasant than mw. I don't hold out much hope for it kicking off, my induction is booked for Fri 7th. I had a burst of energy earlier but it's zapped now, I want to go back to bed.

Ambi · 28/08/2012 13:06

Poppy, you are brave, my bag was in the car from 37w.
Oh, my stat for list (though hopefully won't need updating, as Needles will be too busy having her baby!!) age 31 & Warrington Hospital.

Signet2012 · 28/08/2012 14:13

Hi all. Hope everyone is well. Today is due date. Nothing to report! Sad

Seeing male consultant on Tuesday next week - will he give me a sweep? What does it entail? Bit Blush about it being a man Sad

Am I ok to go on my own? Or should dp come? I normally just go alone except for scans.

Nightfall1983 · 28/08/2012 15:11

So today was my first proper day of ML and it was... expensive!

Starting off at local NCT bumps and babies group, was really nice to meet them all and will definitely be going along with baby - especially as that was only £2 which is a bargain. Then treated myself to: lunch in town, some bath stuff from lush and some new make-up from boots Blush not usually such a spender - will have to try and reign it in a bit Grin

NeedlesCuties · 28/08/2012 15:25

No longer updating list to include location, but have added Ambi's age.

signet I think having DP or someone else there is a good idea...was for me anyway. I felt so emotional after the sweep, as I was all mixed up thinking about my baby, possible induction next week, my body etc. I cried as soon as we were in the car park :(

Basically the male Consultant - whom I'd only met moments before - scanned me to check baby was in good position and that fluid around baby was good. He put on gloves, raised the bed up a bit then rummaged his fingers around inside me. Found the cervix, poked a finger or two in then stretched and widened it. He told me I was 1-2cms which meant 1-2 finger widths.

If the cervix is 'posterior' it means it's tilted back and needs to be coaxed with his fingers to tilt to a better position. Uncomfy is a kind word for how that felt Hmm

It only took a few moments, so I guess it's like an even more unpleasant smear test, just with fingers.

I have been in agony with cramps from about an hour afterwards - left DS with DH downstairs and just lay in bed sobbing. Also have had a bloody show when I've gone to toilet.

Am hoping these are good signs and not just my body teasing me again.

Eviction orders for this DC2 are seriously being ignored by him/her!

quickchat · 28/08/2012 16:38

Hi, I found you all at last. I moved house, rented for two weeks then the house was an upside down building site (still is) for weeks before computer was unpacked and set up. I then couldn't find you, I should have guessed we'd be on yet another new thread!

Im still pregnant Shock. Due Friday. I can't fecking believe it. My other two were 3 weeks and 1 day early so this is the most pregnant ive ever been.
Im not too fed up though as ive lost weight and feel quite sprightly! I was diagnosed with gestational Diabetes about 5/6 weeks ago and just went on a very saintly diet. Baby is still growing fine obviously and is measuring on target.

Im having to be oh so rude as DS is over the road on a play date until 5pm and DH had to take our very moany DD out for a walk before I cracked up.
I only have a teeny tiny window of time as i promised tea on the table at 5 Hmm!! I will be back after bedtime routine to check who has had babies - dying to see new lists Grin.

Ive just glanced up and seen the last post from needlescutie. I had a sweep last monday and a sweep this monday. The first was much more brutal and I felt crampy and sore for 2 days after. This week she was well warned to be gentle and it was fine. I had a show after first but this is normal after a sweep and (sorry) not necessarily a sign.

They want to to try and get things going as usually with GD they deliver at 39 weeks. Placenta's only have so long of a lifespan and GD wears them out quicker. As I am controlling with diet alone and no meds and my levels are very low they are happy to let me go to 40+3, which is Monday Shock.

First Doctor from last Monday said I was 1-2 cm and I think she was trying to unscrew the baby from the inside Blush. She wanted me in this Fri hoping to break my waters. As my first was a c-section they can't do much to induce me apart from waters then tiny amount of hormone drip so she was very keen shall we say.

Second doc this Monday said no wonder I was sore, my cervix is still very far back. Then she announced, I doubt you will be ready even by Friday to have waters broken. Come back next Monday and if we still can't break them it's a c-section. Shock. Wow that has filled me with confidence.

Ive walked around for weeks thinking "ooh any minute now I could go into labour" and now im told it's very unlikely I feel like it's an anti climax.

Anyone had similar then went into labour anyway?

NeedlesCuties · 28/08/2012 18:05

quick good to see you back on the thread :)

I'm not sure about your experiences as mine are a bit different. I went into spontaneous labour at exactly 39 weeks with DS - my waters broke without warning and that was that.

All during this pregnancy I've had numerous MWs, Consultants and my own DH (who is a GP) telling me that this will almost certainly go the same way. In my innocence I listened to them and now I'm sat here 40+4 with no sign of baby despite weeks of false alarms and my show came 8 days ago... Hmm Confused

Basically I think these babies and our bodies just are mysterious and that the professionals are just guessing as much as we are.

quickchat · 28/08/2012 19:19

needles I was exactly the same. Both of mine were spontaneous at 36.6. Waters just broke.

Here I am at 39+4 being told my cervix is way too high for any baby to ever consider leaving the exit (ok she didn't exactly say that Grin}.

I had a show 6 days ago.

My friend is a Doctor and told me to forget pineapples, raspberry tea, curries and all manor of stuff as it's all old wives tails. Now Im reeeeally bored.

quickchat · 28/08/2012 19:20

tales not tails Blush

quickchat · 28/08/2012 19:21

OMG - everybody else has had babies Envy. Congratulations to you all x
