Oh my Shock at water blisters!

I think that's the best way to be, if you are term with a baby in the right position etc you may well find the pain completely manageable Smile

Bubbless · 12/07/2012 14:26

im kinda worried they are going to rush to induce me.. anyone had any experiences with this?
just found an amazing pushchair... mummas and pappas sola, think this is going to be ours!!

water blisters?!?! run and hide... Shock

Equimum · 12/07/2012 15:40

Hmmmmm, we were thinking about using our bath rather than hiring a pool if we do go for a homebirth, but I'm quite scared of getting stuck!!!! Mind you, my midwife isn't too keen on me having a homebirth as a history of depression apparently means I'm more prone to PND, so she wants me to be monitored in hospital after the birth. TBH though, I'm sure that if everything goes well, I'll feel far more relaxed at home with my husband than stuck on a baby ward with a whole host of screaming babies! We'll keep pushing though, as it's what we feel would be best for us. I do still have a bit of that concern that I might start asking 'what if....' should anything go wrong, but my local hospital doesn't exactly have the best reputation anyway, so I'm inclined to think I might still think that if I did choose to go there!

Littlemiss sorry to hear that you really don't get that much choice in Sewden.

I had to look up the water blisters...

Intradermal Injection of sterile water
This is a new technique where small amounts of sterile water are injected directly under the skin to form blisters like bumps. These cause intense stinging followed by relief of backache for 60 ? 90 minutes. This may be due to release of substance called ?endorphins? in the blood, which acts as natural painkillers.

I don't think I'll be opting for those!

Bellaboo123 · 12/07/2012 16:04

Add me to the water birth club...here's hoping all goes well. Although the image of blood and guts in the water has made me laugh!

How about a water birth with jacuzzi jets AND a glass of bubbly I'm sure it would make giving birth a lot easier...!!! Wink

Queenofsiburbia · 12/07/2012 16:32

I know this is a STUPID question but... You are nekkid in a birthing pool right? Or do you wear a tankini top? How long are you there? Do hospitally people wander in & out? Do people actually have the baby in it before you

As you can tell I'm finding the pool thing abit Confused !

pidg , am I right in thinking you're my Friday 13th scan buddy? (not literally don't worry, not expecting you to collect me & take me to the scan!)

minipie · 12/07/2012 17:08

Queen my plan is to wear a bikini top unless I find it uncomfortable, in which case I'll whip it off and go nekkid.

Length of time there is up to you and how you are feeling/how the birth is coming along

Yes hospitally people probably do wander in and out, doesn't bother me, I'm sure they've seen it all before (plus I've been in and out of the hospital since about 6 weeks due to bleeding ishoos so I reckon most people there have already seen my bits Grin)

They clean it thoroughly between births!

V envious of all the scans coming up! Mine isn't till 1st august, I will be 21+3

PurplePidjin · 12/07/2012 17:15

I think you spend most of the final stages nekkid from the waist down. I think I'll stock up on cheap button nightshirts in a massive size and wear as many as necessary, then get my Mum to treat me to some lovely new jammies on her way over for her first visit (mum is 30 mins away and drives, MIL is 2 hours away and doesn't so hopefully BIL or Biggest Nephew will bring her down asap. I'm not anti-MIL, she's fab, it's just logistics!)

Yes, tomorrow at 14.45

Equimum it sounds more sensible to let you have a home birth if they are worried about pnd, I hope you get the birth you want.

stacks the water blister thing just sound horrid doesnt it! and you would have blisters all over your body after the birth!

good luck with the scans tomorrow!

FriendofDorothy · 12/07/2012 17:26

Minipie my scan is 1 August too, I will be 20+3.

SpottyTeacakes · 12/07/2012 17:29

Equimum I think that's a silly reason and obviously they can't stop you. Maybe they could have a chat with your dh/p to let him know what's 'normal' and what to look out for if they're worried?

Bubless you can refuse induction, your hospital will have it's only policy but this isn't exactly law. Have a look at the NICE guidelines on going overdue. It might not even come to that though!

Someone said they've lost weight, I've lost 6lb in the past few weeks but I've been eating loads!

Clarella · 12/07/2012 17:30

Hi all loving the nekkid blister chat! My only ever second episode of obem had a remarkably quiet water birth with two fashion designers, the mum had made a bright red bikini top and a little skirt to go with (and they had baby enough outfits for one a day for 4 months ffs!) But actually the skirt idea is a gud'un! Someone said recently on here if you're considering water birth its bloody hard to find bikinis and tankinis in the winter (it is, I have a long body and we go in with the kids at work plus I love swimming so always stock up on well padded cheap work tankinis in the summer!)

All fabulous at scan, can't belive how big baby is, feet were right up near bottom of front ribs! Got some lovely face pics. The placenta is upper right anterior which explains why I feel it all on the lower left! And realise now most of what I think is indigestion is baby!

It's a boy! :) :) (nub theory was right!)

HoneyMum21 · 12/07/2012 17:33

Congratulations clarella - 2 little boys coming to the north east!

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 12/07/2012 17:36

Yay clarella congrats!!!!

As for water birth I will probably just be nekkid tbh after 2 babies you knows just don't care who sees what! Lol

EggsMichelle · 12/07/2012 17:38

I don't have a birthing plan Confused I was just planning to arrive at some point on or after my due date (too busy to be early) have baby as I am instructed to and go home when told. I get the feeling this all needs a little more thought!

I've had a horrible day, DH thought it was funny to go to the toilet every time I wanted to go which hurt my bladder, I cried alot and he felt so guilty I think he cried a bit too! Then my O2 signal went when I was trying to talk to my mum (cue more crying), my olives leaked in my bag and covered everything in olive juice (water works) and to top it off I hadn't pooed in 4 days. Drank a bit too much lactulose from the drugs trolley, but feeling much happier now, although blubbed at Glee!!!

EggsMichelle · 12/07/2012 17:39

Congratulations Clarella!!! My post took me so long to write I missed your post!

knottyhair · 12/07/2012 17:44

Congrats Clarella!! And sorry you've had such a horrible day Eggs, I hope your DH does feel guilty! Hope you have a nicer evening.

SpottyTeacakes · 12/07/2012 17:45

Yay a boy!! Congrats Clarella You can buy loads some clothes for baby now!

itsMYNutella · 12/07/2012 17:55

Oh Eggs you poor thing, but your post did make me chuckle, it was the olives that did it but I have no idea why! I get very huffy with my DP when he goes to the loo as I'm making a beeline for it Angry
My Polish friend told me that in Poland there is a saying - I'm not sure if it's exclusively for pregnant women - but basically if you upset a pregnant woman mice will get in and eat all your stuff :) I like it and use it only when necessary :o

I'm with the nekkid gang on the water birth side of things. I can't be doing with wearing something wet and cold when I'm trying to heave myself into or out of a water bath while having contractions / sneezing out a person...
I was told by the midwife that four hours is the maximum time in the water then they have to change the water, but I can't remember if they let you back into the pool....
The pool I saw had a sort of door on it... like an old person bath I guess...??

And congrats Clarella! :o

Bubbless · 12/07/2012 17:55

oh equimum- i didnt know that a history of depression means you will be kept in / monitored? i agree- being at home sounds a lot less stressful!!

oh.. and no water blisters for me thanks ;)

minipie- my scan isnt until the 8th aug.. think yourself lucky!! [throws a strop]

spotty- i will be investigating! i think i want to know what i 'ideally' want before hand, obvs if there is any problem with baby then get it the hell out however they have to (!) but otherwise i want to do it my way [stubborn face]

clarella- congratualtions! blue flavour baby!!

eggs- id kick him in the balls and see how he feels!!

Queenofsiburbia · 12/07/2012 17:56

Thanks everyone fit explaining about water births. I don't always trust midwives to give an unbiased explanation especially my scary one!

Huge big Grin for yr scan clarella . I'm looking forward to tomorrow Pidj, I'm about an hour before you.

Isn't birth enough without adding sophisticate torture techniques, I am also Shock by blisters. That sounds like the most twisted logic for pain relief. Surely sticking your head in a bunch of nettles would have same effect but still not going to be popular!

Don't worry eggmichelle I'm also very emotional. Yesterday was a shocker, topped off by massive strop at DH saying, "yes, they look ok" about new maternity jeans. Obv should have said, "wow, how have you kept your figure so well, what a neat bump, you look FANTASTIC!" even though clearly untrue!

Angry

I save my good moods for MN ;)

itsMYNutella · 12/07/2012 17:56

And of course it's germany I'm sure they would look at me really funny silly English lady adhering to stereotype if I wanted to wear something in the pool Hmm
Plus they're all medical peeps and they get to look at fanjos every day Shock great job :o

itsMYNutella · 12/07/2012 17:59

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha... sorry Queen! but let me know if it works

itsMYNutella · 12/07/2012 17:59

thistles? Nettles!! Gah!!! Well of course you're free to choose Queen :o

Mummycox · 12/07/2012 18:00
