Clarella · 12/07/2012 11:09

Thanks! Hmm think will be a while, this place is heaving.

knottyhair · 12/07/2012 11:17

Good luck Clarella!

emilyeggs · 12/07/2012 11:26

Welcome littlemiss!
I'm planning on a water birth with gas and air also but open to whatever needs to happen so as to not get disappointed.

itsMYNutella · 12/07/2012 11:30

I'm with minipie, why no water birth littlemiss?
Although here (in Germany) I was told that less than 1% actually give birth in water. I think I'd still like the option to bob around in the water (ok, maybe it's partly because I don't have a bath at home :o)

Oh, welcome and congratulations too littlemiss

PurplePidjin · 12/07/2012 11:35

Yeah, i don't intend to insist on actually give birth in the water but if wallowing around in it makes me feel better, that's good, right?!

Pidj I think we have to give all the options a go :) wonder if they have whirlpool options on them

WeeJo08 · 12/07/2012 12:02

Good luck Clarella :) Looking forward to hearing all about it!

Welcome littlemiss :)

Had a good lot of movement yesterday (I think!) Lots of twitchy twitchy flicks :)

PurplePidjin · 12/07/2012 12:03

Ooh, jacuzzi jets to massage your back!

I'd like a water birth with gas and air. I'm actually not at all worried about labour, and am kind of looking forward to it.

I've enjoyed watching any kind of maternity/birth/baby programs since I was really young, so have probably watched thousands of televised births. Also saw my brother delivered in a home birth when I was 12, so seen it first hand too.

I'm just really interested in how it will all feel. There are women that find the pain unbearable from very early on, and others that get to 7/8 cm walking around thinking "is this labour?". I think it's important not to be scared of the pain, but it's so hard to imagine what it will be like that I want to get there and feel it for myself. I think I'm a little weird though?

My ideal birth plan? Have contraction or 2, get in pool, sneeze and have baby. I'll have to compromise on that though, so I'll be open to options :) I really don't want an epidural or CS though, but I understand things don't always go to plan, so will be open to both and refuse to be disappointed in myself if things turn out that way.

littlemiss welcome! What are the options for birthing there then??

knottyhair · 12/07/2012 12:16

Welcome littlemiss! Sorry I missed that last time Blush.

SpottyTeacakes · 12/07/2012 12:23

Good luck Clarella!

I would love a water birth, I would love to labour at home as long as possible, then off to MLU into pool with gas & air but no chance of that!

WeeJo08 · 12/07/2012 12:43

Ooooh! Massage jets... That sounds awesome, Pidj Grin

Stacks You're not weird - I agree with you...I am sort of looking forward to labour too! My friend has also been recommending hypnobirthing and the idea that labour doesn't actually hurt, i.e. it's a natural state...animals don't find it painful, etc. I am still a little nervous and I'm not sure that it won't hurt BUT I am trying to look forward to it positively. I have started with e first hypnobirthing CD anyway. Oh by the way, Stacks thanks for the Ravelry link!

PurplePidjin · 12/07/2012 12:51

Imo, healthy baby = successful birth. How we get there, how long it takes, and how many HCPs are involved will be pretty irrelevant once we're faced with smelly nappies and teething!

My 2nd labour was much better as I wasn't panicking about the pain tbh, it's best to relax.

Bubbless · 12/07/2012 13:16

but i got to hear the heartbeat Grin

SpottyTeacakes · 12/07/2012 13:21

I think knowledge is key and you should try to get as much info as you can pre birth.

bubless at my hospital dp can stay the whole time before/during/after I'm Sad for people who don't get that. No double bed but they gave comfy reclining chairs!

FriendofDorothy · 12/07/2012 13:21

I am not particularly looking forward to the pain of childbirth but I would much rather have a natural delivery than major abdominal surgery unless it is required. I am yet to be convinced that unless there are good medical reasons for mother or child that ELCS should be offered.

Bubbless · 12/07/2012 13:26

at my hospital (and all of the hospitals around here) say i give birth at 4am.. dp will be asked to leave at like 4.30.. :(
and im getting emotional about it already

i want my birth to be as natural as possible, and im so worried that i wont be able to give birth naturally- scared il feel like ive failed at the first hurdle pregnancy hormones!!

is this the sort of thing i need? i want one i can hear outloud as opposed to with headphones.. doppler

Equimum · 12/07/2012 13:30

Water births sound perfect! Is anyone else considering a home birth? We're really keen, even though this diss our first. Mind you, we live literally a three minute drive from a hospital.

Equimum · 12/07/2012 13:30

Is, not diss!

Bubbless · 12/07/2012 13:32

equimum- id like a home birth but i just dont know what id do if there was something wrong / i think id always think.. if i was in a hospital then maybe it would have been different!! might grow on me later though as i hate hospitals!

SpottyTeacakes · 12/07/2012 13:33

I don't think there is an easy option when it comes to having babies. I know someone who did that free birth or whatever it's called Shock wouldn't even have her dh in the room!

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 12/07/2012 13:34

I want a home birth but DH won't let me, and my bath is tiny

Bubbless · 12/07/2012 13:35

spotty- i might go for that option if dp annoys me too much ;)

littlemissbroody26 · 12/07/2012 13:40

thanks for making space for me! :)

the options here are hospital birth (no home births, you can pay for a private midwife if you want but they are very hard to find) no water birth because a baby (very sadly) died whilst the mother was water birthing, the baby died for a reason unconnected to the water birth but since then they have been banned. As for pain relief options they have epidurals, acupunctur, water blisters (not really sure what this is, i think they give you blisters to try and distract you from the pain.. sounds a bit barbaric to me) they still have gas and air in stockhom where i live but they have banned it from some areas and are trying to make the ban country wide (they better not before december!) Bubbles im happy to swap with you!

water births sound amazing, you ladies who can choose them are so lucky!

my birth plan is decide on the day as i have no idea if i want an epidural or not because i cant even imagine what the pain is going to be like!
