You can take co-codamol in pregnancy, as long as you don't go mental with it.

HoneyMum21 · 11/07/2012 20:47

Really Friend? Can i? That is life-saving news :)

FriendofDorothy · 11/07/2012 20:51

Yes although it is not recommended to use too much as it has codeine in it.

SpottyTeacakes · 11/07/2012 21:09

I used it last pregnancy Smile

Cookiesandcream06 · 11/07/2012 21:11

Been so busy! trying to catch up without falling asleep as I'm feeling poo.

I'm also still debating a Doppler too, just worry I would mistake mine for bubba beans.

I am a higher risk due to hemmorage with DD so no other option than hospital pour moi. After what happened to me before I would be far too scared.

bubbless nothing but admiration for you, I had DD at 20. Age is nothing but a number, and I'm sure your family will come round, but don't worry my dear you are not alone Smile we are always here. I still get funny looks and people love to comment 'you look too young' etc etc. f* um!!

HoneyMum21 · 11/07/2012 21:23

Cookies - I was worried mine and bumps heartbeat would be hard to tell apart, but bump's is faster and just, different. Sorry, that's not helpful bit it's hard to describe!

Well, I've been wondering whether to share this as I don't know if it might be slightly controversial as this is dc1, but I'm fairly sure I'm going to have a elcs for bump. Lots of thinking behind this but at the min consultant is happy with this if I do go ahead.

FriendofDorothy · 11/07/2012 21:32

Why are you going for ELCS Honey?

PrunellaDeVille · 11/07/2012 21:59

I've been seriously considering ELCS honey and would be really interested to know why you're heading down that route.

PurplePidjin · 11/07/2012 22:18

No judging from me, if you get a happy baby at the end then it's a good way to give birth!

littlemissbroody26 · 11/07/2012 22:20

hello :)

can i join you? my baby is due december 8th, so far all has gone well.. apart from me being all smug about not having morning sickness and it starting at 11 weeks and still carrying on now (at 18 weeks.)

We were ttc for allmost 2 years and I found out I was pregnant just before we were due to start an IVF cycle, we didnt think we had any chance of pregnancy that cycle because the IVF doc told me I wouldn't ovulate so we just chilled out and didnt really "try" wine/skiing and takeaways was my magic fertility combo!

I'm living in sweden my OH is swedsih, it's all very hands off here, i have my 20 week scan next tuesday, we have had 3 scans and all looked well but i had to make a fuss to get those here it is normal to have the 1st (and only) scan at 18/19 weekd.

On the doppler conversation I

ISpyPlumPie · 11/07/2012 22:26

Welcome littlemissbroody Smile

ivanapoo · 11/07/2012 23:24

Hi littlemiss and welcome... I really want a Doppler after all this talk!

Honey I know how you feel, I'm relaxed about a lot of things but with every twinge, ache or pain since I was ill last week (and there have been quite a lot) I have felt really anxious. I'm trying to be chilled about it - luckily my 20 week scan is actually at 19 weeks next Thursday so not long to wait.

I sometimes think reading MN and the bunch of pregnancy mags I was given don't help as there are lots of really sad or scary stories out there. Also as I got pregnant really quickly I somehow feel guilty that it was so easy, and I think that's only compounded things. Bloody hormones!

SpottyTeacakes · 12/07/2012 06:09

Welcome littlemiss!

Interested in an elcs too I'm really torn though!

ivana I feel guilty too especially when I have friends trying for years (I had a coil in)

Have to work today which is rubbish especially as my Next sale slot starts at seven!

EggsMichelle · 12/07/2012 07:22

Good Morning, worked my way through the discussions yesterday, wow lots of stuff to take in!!!

I think everyone is ready to start a family at different times. I'm 26 and DH is 28, and now is right for us as I've been working in my role for 5yrs, and DH will be finishing uni in December with good job prospects. Sometimes I do worry its not the right time, but I'm sure everyone worries about that at some point. On the positive I can turf my children out when I'm still young enough to have a second youth!!!

Awake stupidly early, so watched 24hrs in a&e, made me cry!

Queenofsiburbia · 12/07/2012 09:00

Hi all & welcome new pudding cooks!

I've been chatting about the age thing & I have friends who are on 3rd DC others who just starting relationships now & a few like me, in their first pregnancy..
TBH I don't think there is a perfect time for children! They're hard work, inconvenient, messy and expensive.... And like I keep reminding myself by thinking back to clearing up after the dog when he was little... Totally worth it! I feel old to start now only because I always wanted a large family and 3-4 children may not be an option if having first age 33. Who knows?
I guess by the time I'm on my 4th (gulp!) everyone will think I'm old to have a child. My in laws think I am now!

I'm really interested to hear about ELCS. I have no clue what to do for a 'birth plan'. One thing I do know us that the idea of sitting in a lukewarm paddling pool full of baby & insides goop really grosses me out!

Also, no matter what my crazy psyco bossy forthright midwife said, I know that water is not the most effective pain management system I'd like to see her opt for surgery in a bath!!!

Have good days everyone, it's sunny here yippee!!!!!!

littlemissbroody26 · 12/07/2012 09:04

thank you for the kind welcome :)

I think there are all different times that are good to have a baby, im 27 and my OH is 35, my plan is to have 2 now and then 2 in my late 30's.. conceiving 1 was hard enough so we will see how it goes.. my OH doesnt think 4 is a good idea either.. but there is time to work on him!

I'm so envious of those of you with the option of an ELCS, it's not an option here in sweden, infact they dont give you much choice at all!

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 12/07/2012 09:18

Queenof that really made me giggle lol

I want a water birth with gas and air. With dd I just had has and air, with ds I insisted on pethidine but he was out within 10 mins and it kicked in after he was born. With this one I know how much time I spend in a bath during early labour and it really helps me, also I know which position is best for me to give birth. I would never have opted for a water birth with dd, if I hadn't been so obsessed with having more drugs the next time I may have considered it with ds but this time I think it's right.

On the whole when's the right time to have a baby, I have always said if you try and wait for the right/perfect time, you'll never have kids. Very few people ever feel they have 'enough money' because they live within their means therefore don't see any money as 'spare'. Wether you have no career/just started a career/been in your career 5/10 years who really looks and goes 'this is a great time to take a year (maybe more) out (and if no career see above about money). As I say never perfect, until it happens, then you wouldn't change it for the world! I had kids stupidly early and I wouldn't want that for my children coz it's damn hard (not that it's easy at any age believe me) but I would never change them, not in a million years!

Sorry long prattling post. Trying to take my mind off being I'll!

I have been productive today, have stripped the beds and put them in the wash, it's supposed to be dry today do hoping to get them dry outside! Oh and now have dd off with earache oh the joys!!

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 12/07/2012 09:19

Oh littlemiss welcome, could you not come to England to give birth? They're obv not as mean here!

littlemissbroody26 · 12/07/2012 09:29

I did consider coming to the UK to give birth, they also don't let you have a water birth here, and they are trying to ban gas and air... Sweden is supposed to be one of the best places in the world to be woman, clearly not a pregnant woman! the problem with coming to the uk would be that i'd have to fly before the cut of point and then id have to get the baby a UK passport to fly home to sweden, also my OH gets paternity leave from the moment i go into labour, but he might not get to devon in time.. if it was london or manchester or anywhere with an international airport it could work.. but it takes 4 hours just to drive from the airport to my mums house silly rural living!

On the pluss side after the birth you get a lovely double bed in a private room so my OH will be with me all the time whilst im in hospital, I have to try and think of the positives!

queen your surgery in a bath comment is great!

PurplePidjin · 12/07/2012 09:37

Hello ladies. I've missed so much! DD has been on winter holidays for the last 2 weeks so it's been pretty hectic. She goes back to school on Tuesday.

I'm 19 weeks today and my scan is on Tuesday. After feeling a lot of fluttering a few weeks ago, I can't really feel anything now. I know it's too early to pay much attention to movements but I'm still a bit stressed about it.

My skin is awful at the moment, really dry and I'm getting lots of spots on my chin. Anyone else experiencing the same?

I was up for 3 hours last night with heartburn. I've just bought a massive bottle of gaviscon to keep by the bed. Towards the end of my last pregnancy I used to carry it in my bag and swig it straight from the bottle!

So, I've just properly poked the baby and I feel quite bad! I was feeling a lot of pressure on one side of my bump and gave it a push with my fingers (why?!) and felt a little push back and then it moved. I've probably just poked it in the head, poor thing. When I did a placement on the labour ward last year I learnt how to palpate for heads and bums etc. I wonder if I can do it on myself in a few months!

Clarella · 12/07/2012 10:40

Rahhh scan in 20 mins, gulping second pot of darjeeling in m and s and we're off!

Welcome littlemiss!

SeymoreInOz · 12/07/2012 10:57

Good luck clarella!

minipie · 12/07/2012 11:01

Shock at sweden not allowing water births and trying to ban gas and air... Do you know why littlemiss?

Pidj your birth plan sounds a lot like mine!! Grin
