Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

so it all depends what time baby makes an appearance as to whether or not i have to spend a night on the ward with a load of other crying babies.. i have a feeling im not going to be tolerant of other peoples babys crying when im tired, if mine is then its a different story ;)
stacy maybe when DS is feeling better they have some bonding time together- but whenever i feel ill i still go home to my mum!!

pidjin im going to a midwife lead unit, but tbh i have no idea what that really means?! i do know that in the hospital there is also the other medical type so if anything goes wrong they can do it on site..
good luck for everything today!!

clarella i think thats what makes it so hard though! is that i know everyone will instantly fall in love with baby, but whilst they are just a bump they all hate me for 'ruining my life', when really, me and dp were talking about children anyway.. Hmm

strawberry if you dont mind me asking, why did you feel it such a mistake to leave after 6 hours? planning on running out of hospital asap
so sorry to hear about your dh :(

cautious/ strawb i had a weird feeling the other day but wrote it off, i get it at night just after i get comfi in bed, really low in my belly feels like cramp but without the pain? 15+5.. maybe baby? [optimistic face]

ispy good luck! let us know the outcome, is this your flavour scan?!?!

feeling much more optimistic today, bloody hormones yesterday! dp has given up and just hugs me a lot now!

also, [hope this isnt insensitive face] dp may be getting a promotion at work tomorrow, just got to wait to find out, this means that if he gets it i will be able to be a sahm!! Grin Grin

When I had my 4th ds I had planned on staying at hospital for at least my dinner but they said it wasn't possible as they were so busy so back to 3 other dc's and reality after 6 hrs not good!

PurplePidjin · 10/07/2012 14:57

This is where I'll be going :)

It looks like a hotel!!

Thanks for the well wishes guys. Ds has managed a whole day at school without a phone call to me to collect him so he can't be too bad. Only 2 weeks of school anyway and I can stop getting up early Grin

Well from 2pm I have been tidying my room (I've basically lived in it with ds since Friday and done no housework Blush) and now it's at that 'looks worse than when I started stage and now I've run out of energy lol just my luck! Maybe I'll be able to rope dcs into helping when they get home....

Good luck iSpy!

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 10/07/2012 15:03

Pidj I'm hoping to go to a birth centre too, I did with ds and it was lovely!

PurplePidjin · 10/07/2012 15:07

A good friend was there a year ago and thoroughly recommended it. At the first sniff of trouble they blue-light you straight in to the local hospital, which in this case is where all the specialist neonatal stuff is for a very big area.

Envy at all you planning birthing centres and possibilities of pools

knottyhair · 10/07/2012 15:13

Our local hospital has closed the maternity unit and just has a midwife led birthing centre now. If your birth is straightforward I guess that's fine, but they can't even do forceps there now let alone anything else, and it's about half an hour by ambulance to the nearest other hospital if anything goes wrong. If that had been the case when I had DS, I doubt very much he'd be here Sad, so I'm not going for that option. But great if you have emergency facilities nearby.

PurplePidjin · 10/07/2012 15:19

Knotty, that's the only reason I'm considering it - low risk first timer plus 10 minute transfer to SCBU/NICU...

SpottyTeacakes · 10/07/2012 15:28

At my 'local' hospital you go up to the thurs floor turn right for labour ward and left for midwife led birthing centre I think there's about 15foot between the two Grin so it's really good even if worried about complications

Bellaboo123 · 10/07/2012 15:36

Hey everyone - I'm opting for birthing unit too although it's just one floor up from the standard maternity unit in my hospital which is lucky. Not really sure what I'm letting myself in for but have heard its lovely...no epidurals though just has and air! First timer low risk too so thought I'd give it a try Grin

SpottyTeacakes · 10/07/2012 15:39

Bella in our birthing unit you can have diamorphine as well as gas an air (which is on mains so you can never run out!)

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 10/07/2012 15:47

Our birth centre is next to the maternity unit too, I prob wouldn't be too happy if it was miles to the nearest hospital in case of emergency tbh.

Clarella · 10/07/2012 15:54

Bubbleess - you are definately not 'ruining your life' - i imagine they mean careers etc? Thing is, ive worked bloody hard for my career and have reached the highest i can both promotion and earnings wise without becoming a deputy head or head - its a really unique job too as I teach children with autism and also have a middle management role in enrichment and creativity so get to hang out with amazingly creative people and artists all round - i get to shimmy with peeps in the the art world AND make plasticine animations (and then spend and hour digging it out of the carpet). I will have to give up to creativity stuff and all the amazing contacts and projects i've built up when go part time (can't do the job with children, have to commit to too much time to do it justice) and probably for a while if all goes well with DH's work. I work with so many women who started their current very successful careers after having children (and will be taking over my role 6 months from now) and so it's just a matter of doing it the other way round. (hope that's what you/ they mean?!)

Just found out there are 2 birthing pools in where ever i have to go at the hospital for 'high risk'(but not really) category :). I wouldn't want a home birth for sim reasons, - apart from anything the whole of the north East ground to a halt for 3 weeks after a ridiculous amount of snow on the 29th nov 2010. after this summer Ill be ready with the snow shovel and purchasing a sledge (45 min walk to hospital) from oct onwards! Grin

Clarella · 10/07/2012 15:55

I wonder if anyone has given birth on a sledge Hmm

PurplePidjin · 10/07/2012 16:15

Clarella, you'd need all your sisters with you for that...

Has anyone had any experience with the oasis birth centre at the princess royal hospital in Farnborough? Do they have gas and air?

SpottyTeacakes · 10/07/2012 16:31

I have never been there emily but I suspect it's illegal not to offer gas and air Wink

emilyeggs · 10/07/2012 16:44

Thanks spotty I'm sure they do too, it's just they only talk about alternative pain relief in the brochure like bouncing on a ball!!

SpottyTeacakes · 10/07/2012 16:45

How long does it take to cook alcohol out of cider? I'm a zero alcohol in pregnancy person and want to make sure it's mainly cooked out

WeeJo08 · 10/07/2012 16:51

Aaaarggh! Just lost my last post! Grrrrr! Angry Will do a quick recap!

pidj Thank you for the recommendation! Will have a search for it later and let you know how I get on. :)

Re: birthing centre - that's what we're going for too. Was told at booking in appt that the birthing centre was "for women who just want to get on with things and have their baby" so although it was what I wanted to go for anyway, I feel it was definitely put forward as the "best" option. Labour ward is right upstairs/downstairs anyway so maybe that's why they recommend it with such confidence!

Has anyone heard how mini got on at the doctor? Have been thinking about her - but maybe I missed her post.

PurplePidjin · 10/07/2012 17:09

Attic24 is very good too for pictures and step by step tutorials :)

Clarella · 10/07/2012 17:11

spotty do a sniff test .... I think it actually takes a while (was on QI I think once)

I may place a bet that DH tries the gas and air.

SpottyTeacakes · 10/07/2012 17:14

Good idea.

Dp wasn't getting anywhere near my gas & air!

emilyeggs · 10/07/2012 17:19

Mini last post yesterday at 16:05, she said she was off to the hospital that day but nothing since......keeping everything crossed for her
