Morning ladies

A big welcome to Clara1 and congratulations hun. Grin Do you know what you are having this time? ((xx))

Had another bad session with DD last night at mum and dad's over tea. They saw the full performance and even they didn't really know how to handle it. Of course my emotional tears flowed yet again.

It is snowing here and I was just about to tie some string from my bridge over my pond to the ground with strips of Tesco carrier bags to stop the darned heron trying to eat my goldfish. Hopefully the snow will put him off until I can get down the garden.

Good luck to anyone having scans and midwife appointments. Must make an appointment to have next set of bloods taken.

Anyone feeling dizzy/light headed in a morning?

Wish I had a cleaner-can but dream.

spub · 14/03/2006 10:13

Welcome to Clara and congrats on your bump being a girl, Pink! Hope things go ok for your friend. It's all a bit of a lottery, isn't it?
Annie - I laughed like a drain at the mention of you needing to wash your sofa covers after a bit of afternoon nookie!
My DH wants to bottle whatever hormones are making me this rampant as it's just not usual!!!
Know what everyone means about being hugely emotional. I got DH to tape the Dunblane programme last night; I do want to watch it (we live nearby) but need to steel myself, first. Also found out yesterday that a dear friend is 5 weeks pg after trying for AGES and being referred to an infertility clinic - that set me off on another crying jag! I am so thrilled for her!
Deblanca - the snow is now largely gone and we have grey sludge instead!
Hope you all have a good one Grin

spub · 14/03/2006 10:14

HC - hope your DD's mealtime antics calm down. Anything we can maybe suggest? (Not that any of us are experts!!!)

Straightforward · 14/03/2006 11:01

Morning all!

AggieP - ooh glad you're with me too on the cleaner front. Sorry for that slight rant yesterday - think I was justifying it to myself!! My DH is doing a p/t MSc too - so many things to take up the evenings at the mo! Are you enjoying it? What's the subject?

Wallace - know what you mean - sometimes I feel like a whale, then someone will say 'I wouldn't have known you were pg unless you'd told me' (always when wearing a baggy jumper, I hasten to add!), then someone will pat my tummy (grrr - and it's usually the 17 year old nursery nurse at dd's preschool!) and say how huge I'm getting! What's a girl to do?!

When I was pg with dd, I was part of a similar forum to this one (not MN though), and we used to compare bump sizes by measuring how many squares of loo roll we were round the widest part of our bumps! Quite fun actually, and loo roll squares tend to be the same dimensions whatever the brand. So - anyone want to play? I'll start the ball rolling - I'm currently 8 squares (at a squeeze).

spub · 14/03/2006 11:09

SF - Will try the loo roll later!
Re cleaners: I have had the same cleaner for 10 years - even before I had kids.
She comes for 3hrs a week to do light housework and some ironing. I tidy before she comes and would never ask her to do anything gross or that I wouldn't do myself. She cleans downstairs loo, mops downstairs floors, wipes the kitchen tops, wipes the cooker (I'm religious about cleaning my cooker so it is only a wipe), hoovers the stairs and landing, cleans bathroom and does about 45 mins of ironing. She doesn't have time (so I don't expect her) to clean the bedrooms. I never ask her to do laundry or change bed linen.
DH and I used to spend our Sat ams cleaning and now we don't have to. Well worth the money. FWIW I intend to keep her when I'm off on this year's mat leave just as I did before!

Straightforward · 14/03/2006 11:11

Oh and HC - sorry to hear about your probs with dd. If it's any consolation, we went through something similar a while back. It was bloomin horrible at the time, but this is how we handled it: first, brought her meal time forward slightly (so she wasn't so tired, which didn't help), then giving her whatever food was being made for the family meal (no choice or different food for her - unless of course, we had made a hot curry or something!), all sitting down together and, if she made a fuss, completely ignoring it (this was really hard though!!). Sometimes, DH would encourage her by feeding her (she's a bit of a lazy madam...), but we would never give her anything else, either then or later. If she didn't eat it, she didn't eat it and she would have to be hungry. Every few days, I made sure that I cooked a sure-fire favourite of hers, so she didn't fade away, and it lasted probably about 10 days then blew over. The key was to stick to our guns, ignore her fuss (sometimes this involved quietly and calmly removing her from the room if we couldn't hear ourselves think!), and not offer anything else to eat.

Take heart - it is just a phase, and she will get over it (just makes it particularly hard if you're pg and hormonal!!) Also, remember - she won't starve. If she's hungry enough, she'll eat. This is not about food, it's about power for her.

Good luck! Smile

jersey · 14/03/2006 11:26

spub · 14/03/2006 12:20

Congrats, Jersey!
Fab news!

Straightforward · 14/03/2006 12:26

Hooray!! Congrats, Jersey xxx

jersey · 14/03/2006 12:41

Thanks. Having to re think the boys name choice as DH said too many people are using Daniel! Any ideas as it took us all my last preg to come up with Joseph for DS!!!!!!!!!!

agalch · 14/03/2006 13:09

Hi girls

Glad everyones had good scans etc. I feel as if i'm the only one who doesn't know what sex baby is.I'm sure there are others tho.I had a leaflet thru the door from a place 2 mins drive which does the 4d and all that,i was soooo tempted but dp doesn't want to know and i have decided not to find out,so thats that(i think) lol.

Straightforward i am 9 squares eeek!!! Come on everyone else get your loo rolls out lol

HC,no advice i'm afraid, both my boys were pretty laid back,my dd however is different but only 20 months so not at your stage yet i don't think. If she is looking like she may kick off i distract her and that still works atm.God help me when it's her as i am not the most patient of mums.Blush

I went to toysrus this morning and bought some 1st size nappies breast pads and maternity pads, sounds mad but i have always stocked up in advance and like to be prepared.Dp will wet himself tonight when he sees themBlush.

It's only 4 weeks till my holiday,i have nothing to wear but never mind eh?

HumphreysCorner · 14/03/2006 13:45

Congrats jersey on your boy. Grin ((xx))

I am 9 squares of loo roll exactly. Shock

Straightforward-we are considering eating earlier but will mean just me and her as DH is always so late home and I think this is part of the problem. I do like us all to sit down together though. It is the noise that gets to me the most and we do put her in the utility room and shut the door-it does have a glass panel in it so she tends to jump up and down banging the glass. I refuse to cook seperate meals so she always has what we have (apart from she doesn't actually have it). Occasionally I will do chicken nuggets and oven chips which she eats but she has got to realise that all food has to be tried and tested and eaten. I am the least patient person in the world and is not helped by being PG as you so rightly say. Thanks for your advice-much appreciated. ((xx))

algach - I don't know what I'm having either, you are not alone (obviously I'm pretty sure I'm having a baby Grin)

Just eyeing up the loo roll on my desk in the office (there for sniffles etc), but think might be best to wait until I get home - might get some odd looks from my work colleagues!

Wallace · 14/03/2006 14:08

congratulatons jersey :)

7 squares loo roll here...and I feel enormous as I've just had a huge lunch Grin

Annie29 · 14/03/2006 14:10

Hello Everyone,

Congrats on your little boy Jersey, and welcome Clara Smile
I'll try the loo roll later at home. I agree with Maewest there, not a good idea at work!!
I would LOVE to have a cleaner!! Just to dust and hoover once a week (and clean the kitchen and bathroom....) I have a mother in law, who, every time she comes to visit, cleans. I HATE that. I'd rather pay someone, than have her come into my home and decide it's dirty and clean it for me. True enough I'm not much of a duster/hooverer/etc, but it really gets on my goat when she takes it on herself to clean my house. Of course her house is always spotless, but even so I would never dare even wash a cup at her house, she'd only do it again properly. And FIL washes up in the sink, and then puts it all in the dishwasher - what's that all about?!
Anyone watch Everybody Loves Raymond. I'm Debra and she's Marie... except without the hugs and kisses afterwards!
Maybe she'll clean those sofa covers for me, spub...Wink
oh and i never iron... not sure if we even own one...

IamBlossom · 14/03/2006 15:26

8 squares. I take it this is wrapping loo all around the back too?

Congrats on your boy Jersey! Struggling with our own boys names ideas I'm afraid.

Don't worry Algach, if DH wets himself when he sees the nappies he can always wear one!

Straightforward · 14/03/2006 16:54

Yes, Blossom, all the way round!

Jersey - our boys name is/was (still don't feel 100% certain about trusting the 'girl' diagnosis!) Barnaby (Barney for short) - you can have that if you want! I also like Jasper, Ellis and Cosmo (but I think I've said that before...)

HC - know what you mean - we try to wait for DH to come home before dinner, but that's always at least 6.30, which is rather late for DD. Forgot to add that another trick is to invite a friend of dd's for tea (obviously choose a sympathetic mother!) and praise the other child to the hilt for eating so beautifully etc etc. My DD always behaves much better when her audience isn't already wrapped around her little finger (ie DH and me!!)

Is it a full moon or something today? DD and the dog we are sitting seem to be hell bent on winding me up to the max! Day started with DD waking up at 6.20 and letting the dog into our room - I half-turned to see what was going on and got a fat spaniel landing enthusiastically on my bump. DD was then both crazily energetic and uncooperative all morning until we got her to preschool. Took the dog with me to go and pick her up later and he suddenly sat down and refused to go any further halfway there! I pulled him along, but he dug in further until I'd dragged him for about a metre and was getting some very disapproving looks. Ended up taking him home and having to run to playschool and was still 10 mins late for pick up! Whereupon DD started being wild, and has continued till now!! I've shut them both in the lounge with a DVD and escaped to the sanity of MN!!

Straightforward · 14/03/2006 16:56

oh, and HC - you're not most impatient person in the world - that's my title I'm afraid!! Should have heard me this afternoon when the dog wouldn't budge...

pinkdolly · 14/03/2006 17:37

Hi everyone,

Jersey - Congrats on you little man! :)

Straightforward - 7 1/2 bits of loo roll round the middle.

Glad you could join us Clara. I know what it's like trying to fight for the computer. My mum who lives with us is on here most of the time but she's been in Birmingham for a week so it leaves me free to use it whenever.

HC - I agree with Straightforward. DD2 has hardly touched her tea again tonite. Just try not to let it wind you up. DD2 knows the score by now and she wont be having anything else tonite. Stick to your guns, she wont starve.
I've noticed with DD2 that every now and again she eats like a horse. She goes through phases of eating tons then hardly anything. And she tends to eat more at lunch time than tea time.
So at lunch times I let herhave extra portions if she wants and I praise her for being so good.
I've done the "you will sit there until you have eaten your dinner" thing, and it just winds us both up. So relax, she'll sort herself out, children can pick up on your stress and that'll make her worse.

Sorry if i've missed anything, had about 2 hrs sleep last night. Finding it really hard to get comfortable, dont know whether it's my back problems or just being pg. Is anyone else finding this? Going to have an early night tonite I think.

HumphreysCorner · 14/03/2006 18:07

Meant to say-DD doesn't eat lunch either and breakfast is a total bribery session ie-well there is no milk then or you won't be able to see Grandma and Grandad and his horse etc. She is with them today (MIL & FIL)-I suppose she will have been an angel there and she is only bad at home because I am a terrible mother! I hear that alot from DH-oh she doesn't do that at Grandma's house. Well, she does at my mum and dad's so I know it is all lies!!!!!!

Bye for now.

maewest · 14/03/2006 19:29

8 squares of loo roll (just checked). DH is away tonight so plenty of time for me to play on the internet!

jom · 14/03/2006 20:52

Congrats to everyone with thier scan results. I had a midwife appointment yesterday (22 weeks) and got to hear the heartbeat which I love. Everything else seems fine too!

Haven't been on for a while, so welcome to everyone who's new. Have been too engrossed with DS and his toilet training which has been quite a challange. We're only four days in but it seems like an enternity! Still, had a very good day today with only one accident so can see we're getting somewhere but have been cheating and using a nappy when leaving the house. Not sure what to do for playgroup tomorrow, not quite brave enough to go it nappiless but feel I'm cheating by putting one on. Any feedback about how long it takes, words of wisdom from any of you experienced toilet trainers would be greatly welcome Smile

Just over 7 sheets of loo roll for me and my bump. Smile

kbaby · 14/03/2006 20:52

I would love to have a cleaner, how much do they charge? I now live like a slob and clean upstairs one week and downstairs the next. With a bit of damage control throughout the week(well actually just b4 my mum comes down) I cant fit both into a saturday morning.
We pay MIL £10 per week to do all our ironing. Although the fee was set b4 we had DD and with the bump coming soon well have to increase how much we pay her.
Were having an extension built at the moment the house is covered in a layer of dust, everything you touch has pink dust on it. The buiders have been doing it since December and were all fed up of climbing over bits of furniture or boxes.
DD is being a terror at the moment, we both have really bad colds and hers is keeping her awake at night and in a really bad mood all day. I cant leave a room without her following and crying. Im hoping the Medised will work tonight as im sooo tired.

HC im dizzy in the am and the mw took my blood pressure which was 100/50 all she said was to get out of bed slowly and have a sugary drink.

Ok now with this loo roll thing, am I measuring all the way around? if so im 8
almost forgot, well done to everyone whose had scans and congrats if you found out the sex.

OP posts:
heartinthecountry · 14/03/2006 21:35

Hi ladies!

It's taken me ages to catch up on everything - especially as I had to run upstairs in the middle to see how many sheets of loo roll I measure (8 by the way).

Well, we had our scan this morning. As some of you will remember dd has congenital brain abnormalities so I was really really nervous about it. But - all is well. As far as they can tell all the brain structures look normal. Everything else too. Huge relief.

Oh - and we also found out - it's a girl!

heartinthecountry · 14/03/2006 21:36

Oh and I am seriously thinking about getting a cleaner too (gave up ironing years ago). My only worry is that I will end up running round the house like a mad thing to tidy up before the cleaner comes!
