SquealyB · 25/07/2012 17:07

Welcome pip

Glad to hear all the dogs tips. We have a 1.5 yr old French Bulldog who is very sweet but very boisterous too.

Cupcake we are having a suprise too! So no gender scan for us. Some very cute gender neutral clothing in Next and Mothercare....

We are going to see a second hand Stokke Xplory pushchair this evening as we had a quick look at the weekend and have settled on this option. I love the fact that the baby is nice and high so you can maintain eye contact and DH and I are both tall so Bugaboos etc. seemed very low to the ground. Hopefully it is good and then that will be our first big baby purchase Smile very excited.

xx

CreepyCrawly · 25/07/2012 17:13

Squealy, I love Frenchies! My neighbour has one and he is an absolute shit! Grin

I can't wait to go try out some pushchairs. I'm 5'5" and DH is 6'6" so trying before buying is a definite must! My SIL had a Stokke Xplory, and she loved it. We would've had it off her, but she's pregnant again, due the day before me!

SquealyB · 25/07/2012 17:23

Creepy - they have so much personality (like boxers!). Ours is brilliant but such a brat! If we had a bigger house we would have got a boxer, we had boxers growing up and I just love them! I am a sucker for any dog with a smushy face.

I am sadly very excited about seeing the pushchair this evening - how dull my life has become Wink

Brugmansia · 25/07/2012 17:26

I don't want to find out but DP wants to. I think I should get the decision on this one, being the person doing the gestating.

I have the opposite feeling on the clothing issue. I really dislike how gendered baby clothes are now, right from newborn on. I don't want to dress my baby in overtly boy or girl clothes, at least at first, so I'm looking for neutral anyway.

I've found some nice bits already. They're from tk maxx so the result of a bit of a hunt anyway. I have 2 brightly colored stripey sleepsuits, one orange and red and the other 2 shades of green. I've noticed other nice neutral stuff elsewhere, but sometimes it's arbitrarily labeled boy or girl.

MrsMallard · 25/07/2012 21:03

Welcome pip!

salt - I'm 13+4 today according to my scan last week and due on 26th Jan (although my original thinking would have me at 13+3 today and due on 27th Jan) so your date of the 27th actually doesn't sound too far out. I'm working on the basis that so few babies come on their actual due date that a day or two here and there doesn't matter!

I've finally had my letter through with my 12 week scan results and am astounded to find out that despite a 1:380 age-related Down's risk, my actual risk is 1:100,000! I'm obviously delighted but I had no idea it was possible to come out with such a low risk at my age (35). I hope they did the calculation correctly!

I've given in and bought some maternity jeans. I felt a bit daft buying them on such a hot day but I was in London and wanted to visit a Seraphine shop to get the right size. The shop was lovely and the staff were really helpful making it a very pleasant shopping experience. They'd got lots of items in the sale for anyone interested.

Our latest feeling is that we'd like to find out the gender although it's possible we'll have changed our minds in the next 7 weeks by the time it's our 20-week scan!

LetThereBeCupcakes · 26/07/2012 08:02

Morning all ? gosh it was hot last night! Had the fan on in our room and the dogs were sprawled right in front of it!

Newbie ? I really wouldn?t recommend Barbara Woodhouse style, her methods usually caused more problems than they solved. If you head over to the ?Pets? section of MN there are some really nice people with lots of useful advice. Also, have a read of ?The Culture Clash? by Jean Donaldson ? it will really change the way you look at dogs and dog training.

Squealy thanks for the tip ? I?ve had a look on the Next website so couldn?t see much, I?ll have a look in store. Not been to Mothercare yet so hopefully I?ll find some stuff there, too. We?ve had some luck at bootsales, and Sainsburys have got a couple of nice pieces at the moment too.

Brug ? that?s exactly what I said ? my uterus, my choice. DH disagreed. Hmph. It?s not that I specifically WANT to dress my baby in gender-specific stuff, I?m just frustrated by the lack of choice in gender-neutral stuff. Fortunately both my Mum and MIL knit, so they have been working on variety of things for us! Will have a look in H&M too, thanks for the tip!

I?m starting to regret buying my travel system so early as now I have none of that excitement to look forward to! We bought a Graco Symbio and I love it. Of course, I may not be so enamoured when the baby arrives and I actually start using it! Fingers crossed it will suit us.
We did a lot of testing and research so it should do.

octanegirl · 26/07/2012 08:09

Interesting about the gender neutral clothing points...I hadn't even thought about that! The reason I want to find out the sex is so I can refer to the baby as he or she rather than "it". I also think it will help me bond and very importantly trigger something in the absent boyfriend. I need it to be real for him and I think knowing he's having a son/daughter as opposed to a genderless foetus will help.

I'm having some very odd dreams at the moment and I can't keep my legs still at night!

DiscoDomina · 26/07/2012 09:24

Hello Ladies, I finally had my 12 week scan this week and all was well apart from the baby wanted to sleep and was making it difficult for the sonographer to date and do the NT - she was going to send me away till next week, but after some coughing and proding she managed to get what she needed Smile

I feel very excited and the shopping will now commence, we are off to Mothercare Saturday to set up a Babyplan.

When someone next updates the list can you add me please!

DiscoDomina (31) DC1 EDD 30/1/13 (20 wk scan 12/9/12) Smile

newbie6 · 26/07/2012 09:42

Lettherebecupcakes - thanks for the advice. I was just kidding when I mentioned Barbara Woodhouse, promise, I wouldn't have a clue what she taught just remember her voice when she used to say walkies, ha ha! I will take a look at your suggestions but I am probably giving my two a hard time as they are big loveable lumps and am sure they will be fine :) x

LetThereBeCupcakes · 26/07/2012 10:50

Aww, newbie we can't help loving those big canine lumps, can we? One of mine is a real lap-dog, which is awkward as he weighs 37 kilos. He is such a cuddly lump and I love him and his sister to bits!

eleda · 26/07/2012 10:59

newbie we've got a 4 year old lab so I'm preparing him for baby by being quite annoying! Wobbling his jowles and pulling his ears! He's actually quite used to it already as I check over his ears and gums and teeth regularly so he'll let you man handle him as much as you or the vet needs to. I figure that's all good training for a baby too!
When he was about 2 I took him with me to my DB's when they had their 2nd DD and their 1st DD who was 3 at the time showed hound around the house whilst holding his 'hand'. Bless him, he trailed round with her on 3 legs and loved it. He followed her around for the rest of the weekend (without any 'hand' holding) other than when he was curled up around the newborn's Moses basket!
I reckon they know!! Very sweet!
He's not too keen on the crying tho and takes himself off to his bed....can't really prep him for that but I'm sure he'll get used to it!

MarasmeAbsolu · 26/07/2012 11:06

Great news Disco
For those of you looking for gender neutral clothes, I would recommend a spot of shopping on the continent (where most supermarket have very nice baby ranges) or La Redoute.

MarasmeAbsolu · 26/07/2012 11:06

vert baudet / whatever the baby equivalent is...

Pascha · 26/07/2012 11:07

Graco Symbio looks nice. Don't worry you still have all the fun of the cot, crib or moses basket, carseat, swaddles, grobags, mobiles, playgyms, bath supports, nappy wrappers, SNOWSUITS! I just realised our little babies will all be in some form of snowsuit. They look so cute, just like a trussed up smiley little starfish (thats what my niece looked like anyway)! DS never wore one - hated the whole being enclosed thing.

Oh dear I'm rambling now...

salt1 · 26/07/2012 11:48

thanks to those who commented on my dates query. after looking at my notes properly it was my mistake and 27th now makes pefect sense, i really must listen for carefully at appointments!!

i am hoping to get excited about shopping soon, booked anti natal classes today.

hope everyone is well xx

Bunny222 · 26/07/2012 16:12

Hi all. After two weeks of waiting called the hospital to see where my NT results are. They said a letter is coming out to me, so it should be low risk, fingers crossed.

Have had to come home today with major sickness and dizziness, the worst of the pregnancy to date. Is anyone else not over the symptoms yet? Am now 14wk+2 surely should have settled by now?

newbie6 · 26/07/2012 16:27

Hi Bunny222 - that sounds like good news re your NT results.

Re sickness etc, I'm 14 weeks plus 3 and still getting nauseous but it is definitely not as bad as it was before. Just feel like I have ballooned recently though so feeling fat :(

Hope you feel better soon!

x

DiscoDomina · 26/07/2012 16:46

Anyone had any experience of Britax prams/ pushchairs? I'm looking at the more economical end of the market, and don't fancy a travel system (DH has warned me off them and declared them as a major faff and not as practical as you might think) I will take his word for it for now as he has done it before Confused Smile

mulan07 · 26/07/2012 17:34

Hi everyone, I'm 27, this will be my first (unplanned and a bit of a shock!). Had my 12 week scan yesterday but sonographer estimated I was 14+3 with a due date of 20/01/13. Had blood test instead of nuchal. 20 week scan will be 31st August. Think I saw what it was yesterday but will have to wait til then to see if I'm right. Smile

PeshwariNaan · 26/07/2012 18:29

Hi everyone - can I join? :) I'm due 14/ 01/ 2013. We've had our 13 week scan and nuchal testing and everything looks good. I'm 15 weeks and still getting over horrible 'morning' sickness. Nice to be here :)

PeshwariNaan · 26/07/2012 18:30

Sorry - forgot to add, I'm 33 and this is our first baby!

MrsMallard · 26/07/2012 18:56

Welcome and congratulations pip, Disco, mulan and Peshwari! I've updated the list to include you all. We're a very friendly bunch.

Apologies if I've missed out any other additions or updates - it's totally unintentional!

Bunny222 · 26/07/2012 19:29

Newbie - thanks sickness has calmed down a bit but very wobbly. Have been to doctor they have said its vertigo, and can't take the medication due to bump.
Hope it passes soon.

Mummypud surely the heartbeat is a good sign? Don't know if they sleep at this stage?

pmgkt · 26/07/2012 19:46

mummy pud - the sonograher would have said something if it was unusual. try not to worry too much.
