creepy I think I do always do a mid stream one anyway but make sure it's done first thing. And wash your hands lol!

I had my 2nd midwife apmt yesterday. They forgot I was booked in and were rubbish. But at least I heard the little heartbeat which was lovely.

I've got a little bump now too, though I am over 17 weeks.

CreepyCrawly · 24/07/2012 18:36

Thanks ladies :)

Do any of you guys have a dog/s? How did they react to a baby?

allchik · 24/07/2012 18:38

Been for my 16 wk MW visit today,was ace hearing the heartbeat!I cried!,what a wus!Sounded like a steam train!x

allchik · 24/07/2012 18:39

The baby not me lol! X

Birdies · 24/07/2012 18:40

Lol allchik, love the idea of you crying like a steam train!!

CreepyCrawly · 24/07/2012 18:45

That made me laugh hard allchik! Grin

pmgkt · 24/07/2012 19:30

Creepy we have 2 dogs and they were fine with ds1. How do yours react with kids at the moment both in and out of the house?. If you are concerned at all there are ways you can train them a bit before hand.

mrsbugsywugsy · 24/07/2012 19:45

hi everyone,

I haven't posted for a while as I have been busy.

pinkfizz I am so sorry for your loss, it must be an awful thing to happen, especially so late on.

I think I am starting to come out of the tiredness, I actually have some energy now (although I am still tired at the end of most days). I went camping at the weekend and it was lovely, the weather turned nice for us at the last minute. I took a few extra comforts with me like my airbed and proper pillows, and slept just as well as I do at home. In fact my back ached a lot less than it does sat at my desk at work.

I am quite enjoying the warm weather, the only problem is hayfever has suddenly hit me and I can't take antihistamines.

I am only 13 and a bit weeks but I am definitely getting a fatter belly. My jeans feel really tight and uncomfortable, especially at the end of the day. I am not a skinny person usually (5'2, size 12 with a pot belly). I have a very short body so I wonder whether there is just nowhere for baby to go except out in front?

I have been maternity clothes shopping on ebay. I figure that most people only wear maternity clothes for a short time, so they will be in good condition. I got some great Boden purple cords for a fiver.

Does anyone have a view on NCT classes? They are quite expensive and I wonder if they are really worth the money. People say they are a good way to meet other mums, but surely there must be cheaper ways?

Creepy I don't have dogs but I do have a cat. She seems to 'know' I am pregnant in that she has been acting differently around me, being more affectionate than usual. I am not worried about how she will react to the baby as when friends bring their babies around she just ignores them. I will be more worried about what a toddler might do to her...

CreepyCrawly · 24/07/2012 19:52

He's a boxer so he's quite boisterous, but when children visit he understands he has to be a bit gentler with them. A friend brought her newborn round a few months ago and he had a sniff and then ignored her. There are already parts of the house he knows he's not allowed to go etc so that won't be a problem. He's been walked alongside a pushchair so he's used to that too. I'm just worrying over nothing I think, just hadn't really thought about the poor sod til now! He's been our baby for 5 years! I think he knows too, he's quite liking resting his head on my tummy at the mo!

pmgkt · 24/07/2012 20:11

We set out the Moses basket in the lounge and said no whenever they went near it, also with playmat. They soon learnt. Also banned them from the sofa early on so they didn't feel that was due to baby. We also had a crying doll, which got hugged lots and made noise. They weren't bothered at all but that is one that dog trainers recommend. I know they wouldn't hurt ds1 they never touch his toys and if they have had enough of his playing they just go to their bed. Ds1 has been harder to train to leave them alone, and that their bed was out of bounds.

happyhow · 24/07/2012 20:32

I didn't get to hear the heartbeat...Sad I thought they usually did it at the 16 week appointment but it wasn't mentioned so I thought I'd got it wrong. Sad Maybe they do it differently in Scotland. Oh well, guess I'll need to wait for that one.

BuntyCollocks · 24/07/2012 21:36

mrsbugsy we did nct classes with ds - felt the content was a bit shit (nothing I didn't know from reading a few books and the Internet), and alternatively a bit woo (asking us to draw pictures of vaginas with powerful, positive words for us to have in delivery room to encourage us!), but the friends we've made through them have been fantastic.

pmgkt · 24/07/2012 21:49

happy - i think most places do it at 16 weeks so its a shame. could you ring your midwife and ask if you could listen to it for reassurance

Im 17 weeks and have been feeling movements for a few weeks but over the weekend i hadnt felt much. Even though i was on holiday i rang the local hospital and then said i could pop in and listen to the heartbeat which i am pleased to say was fine, and typically after 4 days of not feeling anything, the next day it wouldnt stay still.

octanegirl · 25/07/2012 08:48

I have my gender scan a week on Friday. Can't wait for the 20 week NHS one! Other than that I feel less tired, still no bump though, and boyfriend still hasn't come back :(
But I live in hope that he will....
I decided to stop competing on my horses from now on, just recreational riding for now.

salt1 · 25/07/2012 09:55

sorry i have not posted for a while. for some reason going on here was making my sickness worse, things seem to be easing now though. had first scan yesterday and all looked fine. decided not to have any ds screening, and am pleased and at peace with this decision. scan put me at 13 + 2, i thought i was 13 w exactly, but they kept due date as 27th jan, is this odd??? really hope everyone is keeoing well x

MarasmeAbsolu · 25/07/2012 10:23

Octane - good luck for your scan! very exiting. Hope things get better with your partner. Has he shown interest in attending either scan?

happy - I wrote a reply but it got swallowed by the system :(

my student midwife tried to fob me off for fetal heartbeat at 16wks too, saying that not much would be heard.
The senior midwife walked in and promptly found the HB, no problem

(mind you, this is the hospital which got me to take my urine sample home because they apparently cannot discard it on their premises Hmm )

Having a cheeky gender scan tomorrow :) - could not wait until my 20wk one either after the fetal medicine call fiasco. I don't find anything reassuring this time round. I miss the blissful ignorance of last time (zero symptoms, zero knowledge of what can go wrong, they did not use to do either NT or anomaly scan in my region....).

I am now 17wk, have a very hard-to-disguise mini-bump (shot stomach muscle and nearly popped-out belly button) and had nausea quite badly, which has now receded to leave place to heartburn. Lovely...

happyhow · 25/07/2012 10:55

I had a student midwife doing the appointment and the senior one was kinda floating about letting her do everything and only interjecting when she thought there was info to add. I didn't ask coz I thought I'd got it wrong. I remember my friend saying something about them not always doing it in case they can't find it and you get upset. She begged the midwife to do it. I'm a size 16 so I wondered if they thought it would be difficult. Hmm

MarasmeAbsolu · 25/07/2012 11:28

have you felt any movement yet happy?
We have a cheapo doppler which we bought on ebay - it has been 'working' since about 13/14 weeks.
I am not sure how size would affect the sound travelling to be honest. Still, worth a shot, or you could even ask your GP next time you go in?
(mine did it - badly- last time round when I was worried and midwives would not see me)

happyhow · 25/07/2012 11:41

Haven't felt anything yet but it's my first so I'm not expecting to just yet. I'm on the look out for it though!! I'll check with my friend again - she's at the same gp surgery and had the same midwife. If I should've got the chance to hear it, I'll see if there's a time I can go in. Thanks.

Lora1982 · 25/07/2012 13:49

happy- at my 16 wks she said would u like to see if we can find it? no gaurantees... it was a trainee doing it too she explained that it can be right down in the pelvis and she has to get the doppler between its shoulders to hear anything. size i dont think matters im a size 16 too. plus i wasnt even 16wks only 15+4

LetThereBeCupcakes · 25/07/2012 15:37

Pink, so sorry xx

Creepy ? I have 2 dogs and I?m worried about juggling everything. I love getting out and walking them so I?m thinking a baby carrier will be a must! I don?t think they?ll be too bothered by the baby?s arrival, they?re pretty laid back and are used to children. Planning to get the nursery all set up so they can get used to some of the new stuff. I?ll also be working on teaching them not to pick up and destroy cuddly toys!

I have a definite bump (am 14+3), but it?s mostly my normal tummy that?s just a bit firm, so I can?t suck it in like I usually do! Some of my clothes are too tight so need to do some shopping.

Is anybody else not planning on finding out the gender? I really want to know but DH is dead set against. I don?t mind whether it?s a boy or girl but I?m really disappointed by the lack of nice gender-neutral clothes and I?d like to do some baby shopping!

newbie6 · 25/07/2012 16:18

Hi

I have 2 dogs - both under 2.5yrs so both a tad boisterous! One is a black lab and the other a golden labradoodle. I am hoping and praying they will 'know' to be more gentle once baby arrives. They don't jump up on people anymore but they have no awareness of personal space so if a new person comes in they charge up to them and want to say hello so that may be an issue! I'm hoping if I can adopt a Barbara Woodhouse style voice they may realise that lady with the baby is not taking any nonsense but we will see!

xx

PipIsOutNow · 25/07/2012 16:57

Hey girlies can I join please? I just about qualify to be here with a due date of 31st jan!!! This is dc2 and defo not planned but now we're over the shock we're really excited!!! I'm 13 weeks tomorrow!!! Had 12 week scan all is ok so far. Got a gender scan booked in for 20th August with baby bond then the nhs anomaly scan on 19th sept!!! Lots to look forward to and dread at the same time!!!

How is everyone feeling? I'm starting to feel a tiny bit more human. Have suffered with horrendous nausea and lost a stone already!!! So glad I'm not heavily pregnant in this weather too, it's 27 degrees here!!! Phew!!!

Look forward to sharing my journey with u all xxx

MamaMary · 25/07/2012 17:01

Had a scan today. Am 14 weeks and due date is 24th Jan which apparently won't change now, so dont understand your dates, salt.

All was well, 4 chambers of the heart could be seen, measurements were spot-on. The doctor said a close eye would be kept on the growth of the baby as I had pre.-eclampsia last time and babies tend to be smaller.

CreepyCrawly · 25/07/2012 17:02

Thanks for the advice regarding my oversized puppy. I'm sure he'll be fine, he's pretty good most of the time. Maybe the three of them should join a support thread newbie?! Grin

Welcome Pip! It's lovely when you start to feel a bit more like yourself isn't it? :)
