ive just looked into these nct sale things... how exciting. theres two near me in sep and nov so by then il know what im buying for too. im all about spending as little as poss... after the initial first few weeks itl be reusable nappies n such too. Mums getting us the travel system and my brothers giving us a cot which turns into a bed. so im planning to spend no more than £30 on this baby lol.

SquealyB · 21/07/2012 13:11

marasme sounds like a nightmare.

Yep cost of something's is really high! Would be great to know what is actually worth spending the money on and what is just hype.

I am not showing but again suspect this is due to the fact that I do not have a washboard tummy at the best of times.

Got my Downs risk as 1:5800 so obviously low which is great. On the downside I have the flu!!! Have been up all night with fever and sinus stuff and struggling today. On the couch in my PJs and rationing my paracetamol intake (had two yesterday and two more this morning) so that's it for me! Just lots of fruit and hot drinks with honey. I miss lemsip max Wink

MarasmeAbsolu · 21/07/2012 13:43

if you have a freecycle group near you, I recommend it. It's really good if you have little storage space - you can re-recirculate everything once it's been outgrown. Never had anything dodgy from there either.

sebsmama · 21/07/2012 13:56

Hi all, its been a while again since I posted, I have been lurking but got all paranoid and wanted to have my NT scan first. Had it on 18th, al was fine and the baby was very lively. Low risks for all the tests. Glad to hear about everyone else's good results.
I am not showing yet (baby number 2) at 12+4, am even podgier than normal but this could be more to do with the chocolate and biscuits I have decided it is my licence to eat....can't wait for a bump to appear!
Happy to hear everyone is doing well. Enjoy the sunshine this weekend! My boy has come down with a vomitting bug so we are stuck at home sadly. So enjoy it for me please!

knuckingfackered · 21/07/2012 19:47

just be prewarned re nct sale, the Q to get in will be massive and inside tis usually a total bun fight (literally) but when your picking up items for pence that figues I guess.
I was a seller/helper at the last one and it means you got first dibs (fab).......
recommend

If your in a wealthy area you'll usually get quality stuff for nothing where folk just want rid and cant be bothered with ebay.

And much like boot sales, folk often buy there to then turn a profit on ebay!

happyhow · 22/07/2012 09:47

In a random rant.... I went to see Madonna last night. What a waste of £180!! We couldn't hear a word she was saying or signing. The sound quality was shocking and the seats in our section shouldn't have been sold. Just about our entire section abandoned their seats so we played musical chairs to get further up and hopefully hear better. Not impressed at all. The old songs were good but only because we knew how they went and everyone else was singing. AngryAngryAngryAngry I'm putting in a very strongly worded complaint and I want money back. GGGGRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!! AngryAngry

theboutiquemummy · 22/07/2012 09:53

Just been given some advice from SIL she's done this 4 times so she's a pro she says new

Mattress
First set of clothes
Car seat

Everything else she says secondhand it because they grow so quickly my BFF agrees

I still haven't made my mind up yet Blush

Pascha · 22/07/2012 10:38

Had a fabulous day in London yesterday for MIL 60th Smile We did an open top tour bus (not my thing but surprising interesting) and ended up at Harrods for afternoon tea where I treated Widget to a glass of champagne. My Seraphine linen trousers were perfect all day, kept their shape and very comfy so a thumbs up for those if anyone's interested.

Buggies: since thursday at Bluewater DH has had a complete about-face and found a BJ city select online secondhand which we've only gone and bought this morning Shock He really hated the look in John Lewis and wouldn't consider it at all. Going to collect it sometime later today!

I definitely agree spend the money on a new car seat and mattress if budget is tight. They are the only essentials you need new. Doesn't mean you can't go mad with the money if you have it though Grin

Most useless buy last time was the baby bath - DS hated it and it was so difficult to hold him and wash him and to lift and empty if afterward. This time i'm going for a fabric bath support to put in the main bath with me.

Best item (was borrowed) was a musical swing seat - kept him quiet and happy long enough for one of us to shovel down some dinner.

Pascha · 22/07/2012 10:40

Happy theres a thread in active convos this morning about how terrible Madonna's concert was last night.

Hormonalhell · 22/07/2012 11:10

Talking about showing - i went out last night in a fairly tight black vest myself and DD agreed i deffo looked pregnant and then was stood talking to my friend and her brother when she told him i was 14 weeks pregnant to which he looked down at my bump and said "oh right, thought u just had a big beer belly" Hmm

Pascha · 22/07/2012 11:14

Brothers are horrible though aren't they? My older brother would have said the same and thought he was being hilariously funny Hmm

Hormonalhell · 22/07/2012 11:16

Sounds like u had a lovely day Pascha. I never been to London and always wanted to go

Pascha · 22/07/2012 11:29

Oh its lovely Hormonal. Just buzzing at the moment, so much to do and see at the moment and the sunshine just makes it all so feelgood. Might be different when the olympics start next week of course. Next time we're going up in October to do a Jack the Ripper tour - see? total saddoes but great fun!

Birdies · 22/07/2012 12:11

Hey my old EDD buddy happyhow, that sounds rubbish, hope you get some money back.

pascha the baby bath was one of our best buys! We got the white tommee tippee one and are still using it now for our 1 year old. Our bath takes forever to fill though so it would have been that or the sink. That's exciting having a buggy so soon, makes me want to go out and get mine!

Everyone don't bother with a top and tail bowl. And don't change nappies all night, unless there's a poo in there you can leave it! No one told me this so I must have been helping to keep DD awake on and off all night.

theboutique that sounds like a good list. I'd prob get a new cot as well as you can get them quite cheaply but not essential.

octane if you have a belly button that doesn't stick out then you can feel it getting shallower cos of baby! That can happen before you have a noticeable bump.

Eleda I agree with what someone else said, that's def low risk. Once you're into a low risk category there's no point comparing with even lower ones as at such a low percentage risk they're all low if you see what I mean. Weight, age and loads of other things are taken into account and give the differences between people's results.

Tugstonia · 22/07/2012 13:18

happy hope you get some money back. Time for Madge to retire...

pascha sounds like a fab day :) glad the trousers did the trick

I've just been on a shopping spree. Intended to just get some cheapo drawstring trousers for work and ended up buying 2 pairs black trousers, a pair of jeans, 3 tops, a dress, leggings and 3 bump bands... Good sales in H&M and New Look maternity at the mo. Also got some bits on ebay. Reckon it'll do me for a while now and will be so glad to actually have some clothes I can fit into as I am definitely showing (with some podge on top Grin).

Is anyone doing NCT?

Pascha · 22/07/2012 14:06

Isn't it funny Birdies how it works differently for everyone? DS was unhappy with the whole water thing for ages so maybe he didn't help by crying, and I just couldn't get the hang of supporting a squirmy wet baby and washing him all at the same time. I totally agree about top and tail bowls though! What a pointless invention that could be done just as well as a couple of el-cheapo plastic tubs.

Tugs H&M are very good for basics, most of my stuff still wearable from last time is from there.

No NCT classes nearer than 40 minutes away so we're not doing it. There are a couple of sales closer in september though so we will deffo be looking for some good bits there. Bigger things i'm in the market for are a crib or bedside sleeper and a swing chair.

CreepyCrawly · 22/07/2012 14:40

I'm pretty sure I'm showing too. My mum is convinced in further on than I am, but she was also convinced I was having twins so..

My sister gave me some lovely maternity jeans yesterday, and a few books which I've been flicking through today.

My odd dreams have also returned. Last night, I dreamed I met Rob Dyrdek from Fantasy Factory, who I've developed a massive crush on since being pregnant. And I also had a very sexy dream involving Matt Dillon.

Hope everyone is keeping well :)

eleda · 22/07/2012 15:23

Thanks Birdies, although it wasn't me asking! I'm not having NT test at all but thanks anyway Grin

I'm also not doing NCT classes. Seemed an awful lot of money for a couple of sessions that wouldn't be that relevant for me - I'm having a ELCS so it seemed a bit pointless and I think the NHS are doing a breast feeding class one Saturday which I can go to.

I'm still really paranoid about buying anything for the baby and even buying maternity stuff although I'll have to give in with some maternity jeans and leggings at some point!

Is anyone else still feeling completely wiped out? I'm 15+3 now and that boost of energy is sorely lacking!
pasha you sound like you're raring to go and happy how you managed a concert, even a shite one (sorry), goodness only knows!!

Pascha · 22/07/2012 16:03

I'm feeling much better now at 17 weeks than I was even a week or 10 days ago. Still nausea after eating and brushing teeth but much more energy. I still need naps or downtime but not half as much.

BionicEmu · 22/07/2012 16:17

I can't wait to start feeling better - 12+5 now, still feeling almost constantly nauseous, although only being sick 2-3 times a day now. Still knackered too, have been having an afternoon nap when DS has one.

Not showing yet, although I am rather rotund, so think it will probably be a while yet! My stomach does feel firmer low down though, and as someone else said, my belly button is shallower than it was. My weight has fluctuated so much over the past 6 months anyway, and I'd just gone down a clothes size when I found out I was pregnant, so I have a variety of clothes in several different sizes which I'm figuring will do me until I have a proper bump.

FWIW I did NCT classes when I was pregnant with DS, and they were fab. Won't be doing anything this time though, but DS is only 21 months old now anyway.

My number one buy with DS was the baby bath support, not this exact one, but a bit like this:

www.amazon.co.uk/Tippitoes-Bathchair-Support/dp/B0047UX6VO/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1342970143&sr=8-2-fkmr1

Made the screaming bath times so much easier, and it was the only seat he's actually sit in (bouncy chairs were not a great success!)

Birdies · 22/07/2012 17:21

Oops sorry eleda, I meant emilie - close! Grin

I did NCT too and would definitely recommend them. They're nice for meeting local mums due around the same time as you and then once all the babies are born you all meet up and it's cute for your baby to have lots of little friends so soon.

godzookey · 22/07/2012 17:47

eleda -I am so tired all the time, i have been using the weekend to nap apart from one trip to Sainsbury's - that's all i've accomplished. I have no idea how i'm a) going to cope with commuting during the Olympics, as I work in Central London and it's already hell and b) continue to work until December.

I got home from work about half 5 on Friday and went straight to bed.

My clothes are all getting tight but it's all fat no bump, a couple of my friends have said that they didnt' show with their first until they were 6 months!! I want to show earlier so i've at least got a bit of hope that people will give up their seat on the train/tube and tram that i have to take to get to work.

I've signed up for NCT classes - bloody pricy but all worth it so i've been told and we also went looking at car seats today and buggies, think we'll go for a maxi cosi cabriolet and an Uppababy travel system.

What on earth is a toppy tippy bowl??

godzookey · 22/07/2012 17:49

oh and my other question for tugs is what are the bump bands for? They have me utterly baffled, surely they need to be attached to a garment of some sort, what do they do on their own??

So many questions I need answering......

Lora1982 · 22/07/2012 18:59

bump bands go over your jeans or trouers etc to cover up the zip and buttons that u cant do up. im assuming they must work cos ppl buy them...

knuckingfackered · 22/07/2012 19:43

godz I thought you could get a 'baby on board' badge from tfl so that people could SEE/READ you were preg and give up a seat.
