We get through the threads :)

You can't be too far from me then cape!!

Really warm here now :)

Right ridden, about to eat pizza :) I've put on a small amount prob 2lbs but that takes me back to pre preg weight. 22 weeks, I'm not worried figured someone will tell me eat cake if I need too!!

I was reading an article in the snail today at the hairdressers about kids being present at the birth. Not really sure what it was on about or the point of it?! Anyway you might want a read.

MissMummy1 · 28/06/2012 19:13

I have the best DH in the world! He's been afloat all day, knowing I'm stressing about where we're going to be living, and has just phoned to say he's possibly secured us a new house! His old boss/friend owns a few houses in a wee coastal village 2 miles away and has a 3 bed with double garage/garden/etc sitting empty. He doesn't normally let any of them out and has said he'll do us a deal and it's ours if we want it! It's not exactly where I want to live but could be perfect - hopefully off to see it over the weekend. Yay yay yay :-) tries not to get hopes up in case it's crap...

Oh and congrats again on all the scans I'm not jealous at all you've all had yours ;-)

DesperateHousewife21 · 28/06/2012 19:36

Depending on the time of day/ night ds will either go to my parents or they'll come here. I'm sure ds won't be fussed either way, he'll be v intrigued by me coming home with a baby though!

Can't wait for my scan tomorrow! Just wish it wasn't so late in the day.

daisychain76 · 28/06/2012 19:44

horsey I read that article too. Had never even occurred to me to consider having DCs present before that. The ideal would be for it to happen at night so they could sleep through it. Otherwise I think they'll go to my parents (assuming I get a home birth). Going to make sure each DC has a present "from the baby" and has chosen it a little present (hat or something) to give it. My DD is insisting we have a party when it arrives so that will be interesting!

shelly thanks for mentioning the date of the home birth session - it made me go and check the web site. Its a bit awkward because the July date is before my re-scan, which is when the consultant will say if they agree to the home birth (because had high bp and DS was premature) but the next one is October, which is a bit late to be trying to persuade DH!

TheDetective · 28/06/2012 19:54

GRRRRR. 3rd time of writing this (stupid laptop).

Horsey, I read the article today as it was a friend from an old forum I used to frequent. I don't go on there any more, but I have a lot of the members as facebook friends - including Ali, the woman in the article. Midwifery is a small world! The article is what prompted me to post actually!

Its the usual daily fail tripe however :(

Stunt Bob on that. Vest with poppers at bottom and wide neck. Babygrow with feet, and in built scratch mitts. Cardigan if its cold. Jobs a goodun. Hate hate hate fussy outfits, especially on newborns! Unless its for a special occasion!!

TheDetective · 28/06/2012 20:05

Forgot to add - it was a midwifery forum!

tomatoplantproject · 28/06/2012 21:03

Hello everyone. Haven't checked in for a while and can't believe how much chatting has been going on.

Am starting to struggle and I'm only 22 weeks (tomorrow) - have started to get pelvic pain and so am booked in to the physio - takes 6 weeks for an appt though. It's hot an I'm feeling enormous, we're going to France on holiday for a week on saturday and I've done no packing. Dh has been out every night this week so I've been doing everything around the flat and I can't sleep cos I'm so hot. Oh and someone asked me if I was carrying twins I was so big. What do they know grumble grumble!

And breathe!! But... Today I am pregnant and I will enjoy it.

Off to read the rest of the thread.

Brockle · 28/06/2012 21:06

stunt a concise summary of baby clothes and correct I'd say. There is nothing cuter than a baby in dungarees!

I have decided on a hospital birth (hopefully water birth) and mum and dad live close by so mum will be on alert to come and stay with the boys if its the evening or pick them up from school if it is the day. Last time it was night and mum just stayed and slept in our spare room. That was nice because she came with Moody to pick us up.

I decided on a hospital birth because out house is all open plan i.e. only one door between the boys beds and the living room and they are sensitive little souls so I didn't think that they would cope very well if I stayed at home. Why not buy some new DVD's/books and get someone to stay with your DS upstairs. He then has someone to reassure him but is still in the house with you. He can watch some new stuff to take his mind off things or sleep if it is night.

I have been invited to the midwifery rolling programme of talks that takeplace in the local childrens centres. The only one I really need is the BFing one for a bit of a refresher but v impressed. One week to the scan and my group physio session which will be interesting!

WestWinger · 28/06/2012 21:15

Midwives - can you answer a question? I'd like to get some urine strips to test at home myself - I'd like to monitor my glucose and protein. What are they called / described as so I can search for some online? Any advice much appreciated!

TheDetective · 28/06/2012 21:29

Multistix. There are other (cheaper) ones out there.

kirrinIsland · 28/06/2012 21:30

I'm very jealous of those of you who haven't put on any weight yet. I've put on about 8lbs Blush last time I didn't put on anything until about 25 weeks, and then put on just over a stone by the end, so I was hoping I could do that again this time. I think it is all cake and other crap though. I have started on a more sensible diet today so hopefully I can get it back in check before I turn into a whale.

I have no idea what to do about childcare for the birth. I need to start thinking about it. Problem is, my family are too far away to get here quickly, and my 2 main friends are both due around the same time so that's probably not going to work either! I'm sure I'll figure something out.

WestWinger · 28/06/2012 21:41

Thank you Detective!

I have put on about a stone - oops! I was the same with DD though, loads at the beginning and then it tailed off. Let's hope the same happens again this time.

I am in a similar situation to you Kirrin. Time for me to start thinking seriously about the childcare aspect. Worst case scenario, I guess that my DH will have to miss the birth and look after DD. Will do all I can to avoid that though.

Evilwater · 28/06/2012 22:48

Congrats apple on joining team blue.

I finally got scrubs for work! Yay, what a difference, so comfortable, so very comfortable. At last I have a date for my meeting to sort out my mat leave. My manger surgested that I will lose the holiday that I haven't used yet, erm...... No. She also thought that my baby was due late in nov. Hmm

Evil

Lilliana · 29/06/2012 08:02

Westwinger I have also put on about a stone Blush Think it was due to having to eat so regularly during the first 14 weeks to stave off sickness. Hoping I will follow you and not gain too much more.

Note to self - Must do more exercise.

Thanks for the comments on baby clothes, backed up what I was thinking.

Need to look into my mat entitlements as no clue atm what I will get or how it works but guess I will need to have a chat with my head about it soon.

Thechick · 29/06/2012 09:14

I think I must have had some kind of growth spurt, I've been offered a seat on the train two mornings in a row and on the bus yesterday. People can be nice. it's lovely.

I've put on about 10 lb the last time I checked. I'm not worried, but I am started to think about my food choices a bit more now that I can eat mostly everything. It's just white rice and pasta and tomatoes that don't sit well with me.

I've also put on over a stone, thank goodness I'm not the only one. I was starting to get paranoid that everyone else on here had only put on a couple of pounds!

applepieinthesky · 29/06/2012 10:02

I don't weigh myself very often so don't know for sure but I think I've put on around 5-6 pounds. I suspect it will pile on a bit faster when my stomach starts growing. At the moment I just have a bit of a pot belly and people that don't know me will look at me and think 'is she or isn't she?' It's not blatantly obvious yet.

horseylady · 29/06/2012 10:27

Apple I'm the same!!

Evil - I have to use all my annual leave before I go off too :( so starting mat leave as late as possible and taking the 2 weeks before as leave. Going to check with hr though if I can carry over a tag on. Plus the kit days I can build up leave too then take that at the end of mat leave. Assuming I don't change hospitals in the mean time....

Evilwater · 29/06/2012 10:34

Horsey, I'm looking forward to taking my hoilday before my mat leave. I have 3 weeks to use up. However I get the feeling my manger will try something funny.

What I want to do is have, one week of mat leave before the baby is due and then have my holiday before that. I'm meeting her next week.

Thechick · 29/06/2012 10:59

With my work, our holiday runs from Apr to Mar and I have to use the holiday I would be entitled to for Apr to Nov then can tag on the rest Dec - Mar holiday accrued at the end of maternity.

Chunkychicken · 29/06/2012 12:38

Tomato can totally recommend antenatal yoga (or the NCT relax, stretch and breathe) classes plus the dream genii pillow to help with the pelvis. I haven't had nearly as much pain since doing that and stopping doing any of the lifting and shifting that goes with moving house, but that's a different story

Not sure how much I've put on. Think it was about 5kg a few weeks back (which is about 13lbs) which is a fair amount, especially as I'm only 19+4, but judging by my pg diary from DD, I weighed about the same amount by this point then too (albeit starting out heavier then than with this one, and eating far less during the ms months) so I'm not worried. I feel sure its pretty much all bump now though, as I'm only having to wear maternity clothes on the bottom, and my bigger, baggier t-shirts and tops - if I was putting it on all over, the sleeves wouldn't fit as easily surely? Plus, a few people have commented that my bump seems to have sprouted lately, so definitely at the 'look a bit fat, could she, couldn't she?' stage. I also lost it all pretty easily with DD, despite getting somewhere near the 16+kg weight gain mark, which I think equates to about 2.5 stone last time. I figure running around after a toddler and breastfeeding should help me lose it.

Childcare during labour: not sure here either. I don't want DD anywhere near me (don't want her worrying about me, as at 2.5yo she won't understand enough) but then if she's asleep, she might be ok. I am very lucky that it will take 5mins walk to drop her at my sister's and 10mins to my Mum's, so in the event that I start getting twinges, I can walk her around to one of theirs and they can bring her back as soon as baby arrives, or we can work something out there and then.

A bit jealous of all those with annual leave/holidays booked. I have to wait until the school hols now, which admittedly isn't far off, but we can't go away (can't afford it with the new house, the garage in need of a new roof, nursery to decorate and so on). Had planned to stay at my M&D's house in France for a little while, but we can't afford the ferry crossing at peak prices. :(

Chunkychicken · 29/06/2012 12:46

Oh, there's a 'discussion of the day' thread about homebirth that I've commented on a couple of times. I had made my mind up that all being well and still low risk I would have a water birth at home. Having read some of the opinions on there, I wonder if people feel I'm putting my baby (and myself I guess) at risk? I know the recent studies are very positive and I know that a hospital birth wouldn't be the end of the world but its the transfer there that bothers me. Plus, I feel I would be able to avoid the chemical pain relief options if I have a water birth, which is far more unlikely at the MLU/hospital.

Has anyone encountered negativity about their birth location choices?

YellowWellies · 29/06/2012 12:47

I've put on 10lbs but am not too worried as my boobs have gone from a C cup to an F cup (so I can't really complain about where it's going) - and hey junior has to weigh 250g or so by now (which is what half a pound?). Also I'm back to eating normally now rather than my rugby team portions during the first trimester.... Midwife friends' who've seen my bump also reckoning I'm carrying a lot of amniotic fluid - to the point of joking about tidal waves when my waters break Blush. Am not convinced that getting carpets fitted next week will turn out to be the wisest decision ever....

Congrats on the house MissMummy hope it works out for you. Don't forget to report your old landlord to HMRC - karma requires it! If you've paid tax on your rent she should too. I mean being a landlord might be hard on occasion, but day in day out I can't see how it as tiring, emotionally draining or just plain hard as being a full time teacher or nurse. When we rented, I think we never needed to contact the landlord other than at the start / end of a tenancy. Well bar one house with asbestos, dodgy electrics (which killed all of our electrical goods), 40 year old appliances constantly on the fritz, oh and a ceiling that fell in due to damp from a dodgy roof. That dangerous muppet of a landlord got reported to both HMRC and Environmental Health. Yes I am a bad person Grin

MissMummy1 · 29/06/2012 13:09

Don't worry YW, I'm one step ahead of you there! Fife council and HMRC are going to get a very interesting email next month and Will no doubt have lots of fun looking into her dodgy finances under her many different names (5 last count I reckon). As i said, i've had bad landlords - my first one at uni refused to replace a boiler when it blew up and instead just ripped out all the heating and left me with nothing - but this one is definitely the worst in terms of the amount of grief we've had from her! The apartment's lovely, but with a sensible(ish) level(ish) head I can see that the cons totally outweigh the pros!

ps, slightly miffed that my c cup is only at a dd now... Lol Wink
