Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
ditsygem · 26/06/2012 12:33

Apple - When I had my scare on thurs with stomach pains and ended up in A&E they basically told me not to worry about pain unless you have any bleeding or waters evident. which seemed a little odd but there we are. I was also told about the growth spurts at this stage and that they have quite alot of women go in to hospital at this stage with really bad pains that are just stretching, so try not to worry, I'm sure its just growing and stetching.
lane Congrats on the girl!

Kyzordz · 26/06/2012 12:38

Congrats on the girls Jane and Lane :)

My 20 week scan went well yesterday :) bean is still a boy apparently, and is growing well with no obvious defects. Got some lovely pictures of him sucking his thumb! My next appointment of any kind is 1st August with the midwife, then I have a private 3D scan on 6th August. Having said that I do have the doctors again on 2nd July about the back/leg pain - the last appointment was nigh on useless but they did sign me off for two weeks, but the doctor didn't seem very sympathetic and just told me to take paracetamol!

Will check back later, I do always read the thread, I just rarely write anything as usually i'm busy and have to check up on my phone, and it's a pain writing a decent reply on there, plus I never remember everything I was going to reply to, lol!

Currently waiting to hear back from the vets, my parrot is in for an x-ray with a suspected fractured leg :( Hoping he's alright, bless him, he's been awfully quiet this morning and yesterday, not like him at all!

Kyzordz · 26/06/2012 12:39

sorry, meant Jaylee not Jane, i'm such an idiot, i'd literally just read it, and then cocked it up still! I might have to write down the bits I want to reply to in future!!

applepieinthesky · 26/06/2012 12:48

I'll be interested to hear how you find the 3d scan kyzordz. I think 20 weeks is an awfully long time to go without seeing the baby so I'm tempted to book a private 3d scan for a bit later on.

ValiumQueen · 26/06/2012 13:16

I am hoping to have a 3D scan too in about 4 weeks to find out gender. I will no doubt tell you all about it.

Going crazy thinking about prams. DH has said I cannot have a side by side. I am probably just going to buy what I want as it will be me pushing it for a year! Men!

horseylady · 26/06/2012 13:23

I'm hoping for a 4d scan too late aug i think. Need to look into it more!!

I've bought some clothes from eBay all brill so far!!

Thechick · 26/06/2012 13:53

Quick question, I haven't really bought any maternity items so far (well one skirt but its really stretchy) as I'm usually in dresses anyway and they have lots of give in the bump area. I also bought a belly belt -one of those waist expander things. But with all this ebay talk i'm going to look for a pair of maternity jean shorts. When you buy maternity clothes do you normally have to go one size up?

Kyzordz · 26/06/2012 14:15

I agree apple, my mum says i'm impatient but it just feels like it's forever away until baby arrives, and the scan package I'm going with has a dvd with it which i'm really looking forward to having. Pregnancy fascinates me at the best of times, but having a dvd of bean will be fab. I agree with her totally that I don't need it, but I do want it, and I'm now looking forward to the 6th August rather than my due date being the closest thing to look forward to IYSWIM. I do thoroughly enjoy listening to the hb with my doppler, I just use it daily after my shower in the evening but it's reassuring and lovely to have a listen not only to the hb but to him moving around etc too :)

I have to admit I find 3D scans a little bit, odd, but i'm really looking forward to it and I hope bean doesn't look too alien in there!

Advice needed!
School has hand, foot and mouth going around. Went out this am as as soon as I got back they put me in the office to keep away from the children and sent me home. It is now up to me what I do - stay home until it blows out or go back tomorrow as usual.

MW has said that I am probably immune but no blood test available to check

It is highly contagious between children, adults rarely catch it but can get it more than once. (Don't think I have ever had it)

Spread through coughs, sneezes and unwashed hands.

If you get it when pg it is unlikely to harm the baby.

There is some limited evidence that catching hand, foot and mouth disease during pregnancy may result in miscarriage in very rare cases.

Chances are all will be fine but DH says any risk isn't worth it, I am worrying about the impact on my class and other staff / money to pay supply but also would never forgive myself if I am the rare case and something happens :(

WWYD? I wish someone would just tell me what to do as I am torn and see both sides. Sorry for the long me me me post.

StuntNun · 26/06/2012 14:59

Lilliana it's so contagious there's a good chance you've already been exposed. Not trying to worry you, it's just something to factor in when making your decision. What does Dr Google say?

OP posts:
applepieinthesky · 26/06/2012 15:21

I'm a natural worrier Lilliana so I would probably stay away until it is over if the school were understanding.

Lilliana · 26/06/2012 15:29

NHS says basically what I have highlighted above - not consulted any more as don't want to completely freak myself out!

Thechick · 26/06/2012 15:42

Lillianna i would stay at home, at least for a couple of days.

Elizadoesdolittle · 26/06/2012 15:43

thechick just buy your normal size, maternity clothes allow more room to accommodate your growing bump. Trousers/skirts & jeans normally come with an expanding waist band too. I find if I get a bigger size up then the clothes are too big else where on my body.

daisychain76 · 26/06/2012 15:51

Hi all

Congrats on the girls!

Had my 20 week scan today and all well but the little monkey would not move off its back (very chilled out, arm over its head) to let the sonographer have one last view of its spine (apparently they need 3 different views) so have got to go back for a re-scan in 3 weeks (was secretly thinking yesss, get to see the baby again!) Didn't find out the flavour, but saw nothing to suggest to me that its not a girl!

Lilianna I think I would take the view that its not worth putting myself through the extra stress and worry and take some time off.

NervousAt20 · 26/06/2012 16:05

Lilianna think I would rather be on the cautious side and stay away esp if your school are being understanding about it

Tiago · 26/06/2012 16:18

I would also stay away Lilianna.

Daisy - I also have a chilled lazy baby who refused to move enough in the first scan to give us a good view of the spine and kidneys, so I had to go back today. Fortunately she (we have confirmation it's a girl :)) was feeling more cooperative this time.

ValiumQueen · 26/06/2012 16:23

lillianna stay off. Your responsibility is to you and your baby. The school will cope, and it sounds as if they are supportive so enjoy a rest.

Consider yourself told!

YellowWellies · 26/06/2012 16:25

Despite the bump some days I forget I'm pregnant, especially as at 19+1 I'm still only getting very subtle movements from the bellydweller but I think its to do with their preferred position, my ample subcutaneous fat Blush, and the fact that this is my first - my twin sis' didn't feel her first make any 'oh that's definitely the baby not wind' type movements until the week of her 20 week scan so I'm not worrying. (honest)..... but today I woke up to the loveliest thing! :) :)

DH and I were struggling to get up and he had been pressing the snooze button repeatedly. I was just dozing on my back (naughty) when my belly suddenley went rock hard to the touch where my hand was resting on it - there was a very clear and very obvious back or bottoms up from someone going on. We could feel him / her just through the surface of the skin just below my navel. They were so close we could feel their spine! It was so weird to stroke and touch my baby (they hung around there for a good few minutes) and then feel them swim off into the depths of my (cetacean like) belly. DH felt the back / bum too! So I guess if junior is lying with their back outermost (please stay like that parasite, I don't want a back to back labour!) that would explain why most of the movements I'm feeling are so subtle - not having any sensory nerves for touch on my insides!

Anyway it really really was a lovely way to start the day. It sounds odd but being able to touch them and feel their wee back - has made it all feel a bit more real. There really is a tiny person in there!

It was also nice to realise where they are - as other than my bump I have no clue about how the organs get squished around and where the uterus is meant to be when - so I found this today which is a cut-away of how your body changes inside (I can't believe that my liver and stomach will end up behind my boobs at the end wtf!!!!) and where the placenta fills during different stages of updiffedness:

www.childbirthconnection.org/article.aspck=10240&ClickedLink=343&area=27

Can't wait to see him / her again on the 6th at our scan. DH and I have a wee treat booked for after - we're getting the ferry across to Hoy (the most beautiful of the islands up here) and are staying in a pal's bothy for the weekend - to make the most of roaring peat fires, beach walks, a bit of hill climbing (if he pushes me up) and fine food and for DH (bastard) fine whisky. We figure to make the most of stuff like this for a while - and it's only costing us our ferry fare (a tenner each!). Did anyone else do anything to celebrate their scans? Am also worrying about what happens if we get bad news? Other than my stalwart back up plan of 'get a big bottle of sauvignon blanc, some stinky cheese and a packet or five of marlboro lights and have a total woe is me bender' :(

applepieinthesky · 26/06/2012 16:27

Yay more girls Smile

My baby was really chilled when I had my 12 week scan as well. It had it's legs crossed and hand resting on it's face. It was fast asleep and refused to wake up even when prodded repeatedly by the sonographer. I hope it's more active on thursday so we can find out the sex. I hate saying 'it' all the time.

YellowWellies · 26/06/2012 16:28

Hmm that linky didn't work let's try again...

WestWinger · 26/06/2012 16:42

lilianna I'd err on the side of caution, at least for a few days.

yw great link! No wonder you're up and down to the loo every two minutes at the end!

They didn't get to see the spine at my scan, and just gave up in the end (after four goes on the same day). Do you think I should leave it or discuss it with my doctor?

WestWinger · 26/06/2012 16:44

Congrats jaylee, lane and tiago on your little ladies!

Lilliana · 26/06/2012 16:44

Thanks everyone, have phoned school and they are getting a supply teacher in until Friday. By then the lad in my class whose sister has it will have gone through the incubation period and we will know a bit more about whether it dies out or gets worse and make further decisions from there.

School have been lovely about it and I am now writing copious supply notes. To be honest I am also feeling awful, can barely walk, shattered and quite stressed about work so maybe the rest will do me good too :)

YW wow, I knew things shifted but not that high Shock

Daisy I would be secretly pleased about another scan too :)

Chick as Eliza says you need the same size just in mat range for bump room, but, as I have put on weight everywhere I am already a size bigger than I was nonwithstanding bump! Blush

applepieinthesky · 26/06/2012 16:49

If it?s good news we?ll be going on a clothes shopping spree as the scan is the same day as payday. We are also going out for a nice meal and bowling afterwards on Saturday for my brother?s birthday so it will be a double celebration hopefully.

I don?t know what I?ll do if it?s bad news. I had a bit of a cry last night because I suddenly panicked and though ?oh gosh, what if it?s bad news? What if it?s not ok?? I'll just pray for the best because I can't contemplate anything else.
