Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
PetiteRaleuse · 20/06/2012 13:01

I had three weeks of regular and strong (according to the fetal mnoitor) braxton hicks last year before DD1 was induced. They weren't painful, just felt like my belly was tightening. Sometimes i'd feel a little out of breath. They would go when I lay down.

When they turned to real contractions after induction they felt like heavy, dull, period pains, getting progressively worse until I got to hospital and was epiduraled up to my eyeballs :) (the norm here). Once I was on the epidural they went back to feeling like braxtons IYSWIM.

What you felt blonderthanred doesn't sound like how BH felt to me but I guess it doesn't mean that they aren't. Just before my scan on Monday I had something which felt like you are describing and the scan showed the baby was turning and had flipped into transverse position - my abdomen was quite hard for about 20 minutes and walking to the OB GYN was quite painful. She flipped round to another position during the scan and I haven't felt it again since.

ditsygem · 20/06/2012 13:09

Just back from my 20 week scan - I'm having a little boy! and everything looks good and healthy so I'm happy.
I was expecting it to be a boy as the sonographer at 12 weeks suggested boy based on the nub theory, at the time I was a little dissapointed as had always imagined a little girl, but since then I have had time to get used to it so I am actually excited now to have a gorgeous little boy all of my own. :)
All of his measurements were in the 95th percentile - eek! he is a big boy! She even checked my dates were right as he is really big!
The sonographer didn't seem keen to tell me the sex. She didn't ask if we wanted to know and it was only when she wiped the gel off my tummy at the end that I realised she wasn't giving us the option so I asked and she seemed really put out by it - but she did tell us, so I can't complain too much!

horseylady · 20/06/2012 14:00

Ah congrats!!! Mine had a big belly lol!!!

Would you (any if you!) consider applying for a job. ESP if that job meant you could work three days a week and not take a salary drop but be working an hour commute from home?

PetiteRaleuse · 20/06/2012 14:21

Yes. I would apply for that - I would love to go back to work part time after this one is born, and already have an hour's commute. As it is I won't be able to afford full time childcare so may be a SAHM for a while. Still working out the options, including changing career path completely and trying to find a way of working fom home.

Apply !

horseylady · 20/06/2012 14:25

Well I was thinking of coming back full time here initially then drop to three or four days depending on money. But childcare is so pricey what I'd worked out to work wasn't worth it. I'm only 15mins from work ATM.

But this job has come up an hour away, similar job to mine but more management, would mean I could happily go back three days a week, no salary drop but childcare plus spend two days at home with lo. I've been put off applying there before just because of the five day commute but three days (should they agree) would be do able? I might not have enough experience though.....

StuntNun · 20/06/2012 15:42

I've had a sharp tummy pain as well a couple of times Blonder, it felt like my abdominal muscles were tearing apart but stopped after a minute. I put it down to something stretching internally but then I'll have internal scarring and possibly adhesions from my section.

DesperateHousewife21 · 20/06/2012 16:21

Congrats on the boy ditsy!

applepieinthesky · 20/06/2012 16:26

Congratulations ditsy Smile

Pretty sure I can feel baby moving again today. Can anyone explain what it feels like?

WestWinger · 20/06/2012 16:33

Hello all! Congratulations ditsygem on your little boy.

Had my scan today I'm having a boy too. A little brother for DD!

He was quite naughty though and would not get in position for them to take measurements. The sonographer had me in there four times, bless him. I spent most of the day at the hospital and the measurements are not perfect, but couldn't fault his efforts! I have to say (and I know areas vary wildly) but the NHS near me is just brilliant. The service, the care and most of all the staff - they are all lovely and friendly and do try their best to help as much as they can.

Horsey - mine has a big tummy too!

I have sharp pains - almost have to hold on to my tummy as it feels like it's going to rip in two.....

So tired now - why is it so exhausting just waiting around???!!

NervousAt20 · 20/06/2012 16:38

Congratulations ditsy Grin

WestWinger · 20/06/2012 16:42

applepie they vary for me, sometimes like I am being tapped gently from the inside, sometimes just a sudden 'pop' or 'wobble' and sometimes a definite kick.

If you think you can feel them, then I am sure that you can feel baby moving. If you get one and then gently poke where the feeling came from, baby may 'poke' you back - always a fun game!

daisychain76 · 20/06/2012 16:42

Congrats ditsy and westwinger.

horsey I worked 3 days a week after having DS and found it a good balance. What I would say, is check that its not the sort of job where in reality you will be on call 5 days a week anyway (mine ended up like that meaning I was taking phone calls/doing work while looking after DS so I left).

Thechick · 20/06/2012 16:48

Congrats ditsy and WestWingersuch good news.

apple I think ive just started feeling kicks too. It feels different to ds, but that was 13 yrs ago but with ds they were more like wind to begin with and these are like tiny pokes, quite low down and quite quick. I notice after the fact and they dont seem to have a pattern. They have been happening for 3 or 4 days now at different times of the day.

blonderthanred · 20/06/2012 16:50

Thank you for the feedback, I've had no pain since then and felt a couple of kicks so hopefully all ok.

Congrats Ditzy and West!

ShellyBobbs · 20/06/2012 16:53

Another boy! How many is that now?

ShellyBobbs · 20/06/2012 16:53

Oh and congratulations to you both of course.

DesperateHousewife21 · 20/06/2012 16:56

Congrats westwinger!

Can't wait to see my girl again next fri it's not too long now. Just really hope everything is ok, still quite worried.

applepieinthesky · 20/06/2012 17:03

Congrats west. Perhaps when we update the stats list again we can put on there whether it's a boy or girl? Or yellow for those not finding out.

My bump seems to have appeared overnight! 19 weeks friday so about bloody time. My mum said I was fat yesterday which I objected to but apparently I'm being oversensitive. As someone who has to work hard to maintain a healthy weight and lacks self confidence perhaps I am.

applepieinthesky · 20/06/2012 17:17

I keep forgetting we have a separate stats thread. Ignore what I said.

blonderthanred · 20/06/2012 17:49

Just updated my scan on the stats thread and put an 'In Memory' for Little. I hope that's ok with her, if she reads this and wants to change or delete it please let me know.

DonnaDoon · 20/06/2012 18:05

Thats lovely Blonder but I think she was born on sunday 17th

NervousAt20 · 20/06/2012 18:23

Congratulations westwinger !! Sorry crossed posts with you last time Blush

blonderthanred · 20/06/2012 18:56

Oh, it said Friday in her post. I thought she was just posting a couple of days later. I might be wrong though.

YellowWellies · 20/06/2012 19:10

More boys! My word! Just in case we have come up with another boy name I really like (and which DH likes too!) - as am not going to force Gabriel on DH if he genuinely dislikes it. Jonas - pronounced the Swedish way (with a y) - don't know why I'm so up for Swedish names - must be all the Vikings on Orkney! We did both love Magnus and Thorfinn (old Orcadian Viking names but thought them a bit mean if we go south).

Many thanks to all of the Mums who posted on their experiences of mixed feeding, my closest BF role models are very anti this and claim that its damn near impossible to perfect without losing your milk or causing nipple confusion (snigger) so never tried and it's nice to hear that such a negative view is pants. I definitely want to express to allow DH to help with night feeds and increase his bond with the parasite :)

PetiteRaleuse · 20/06/2012 19:23

We have a stats thread?
