Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Swiss I can't believe you felt guilty when it sounds like you did everything possible to do the best for your baby. Not being able to bf is upsetting but you sound like a superb mother.

Dixie my DS2 was the same and never took a bottle, he had to go straight to an open cup. DS1 loved his bottle from the word go, my boobs were definitely the least preferred option. With this baby I'm going to try the bottles that are designed to be used alongside bfing.

Welcome MrsSkinnyLegs when are you due?

I'm planning on breastfeeding well trying to after reading loads of info I'm well aware that it isn't always possible but also hoping to express as much as i can around a month old because I want DP to be able to be involved with feelings and have that bonding too and always it will be coming up to Christmas and I'm just not confident to breastfeed in a huge public place like that which will be very very busy

Congrats for all the good results on scans yday :)

Is anyone struggling to sleep on their left? I can sleep on any side but my L so trying to get into the habit and it's just not working Angry its driving me mad being so restless all night

misslaughalot · 20/06/2012 09:34

Welcome MrsSkinnyLegs, good to see more November babies on the way!

So my hayfever means I'm a constant sneezing machine at the moment, which isn't usually a problem, but last night I was lying in bed (on my left like a good girl) and I sneezed. WOW it was painful, I thought my stomach was coming apart! It was a distinct line of pain right across my belly. My poor DP didn't know what to do! Is this just my stomach muscles moving/changing?

Also, and TMI alert, but is anyone else's belly button becoming the most unholy disgustingly filthy place on the face of the planet. I shower each morning, but by the evening it's truly gross in there (and itchy) Blush. Someone please tell me i'm not the only one!

Brockle · 20/06/2012 09:39

I must admit nervous with DS2 he was very clingy to me and I think having DH involved in the feeds would have helped. Expressing and getting DP involved is a great idea.

My SIL had the same problems with her DS as you did with DD swiss and she felt guilty too but she has a wonderful healthy fantastic DS. Doing what is best for your DC's is the most important thing and it takes more guts to change tack and do what is right than persist with something that isn't working.

Had the chance to work today and build up some more flexi but my hips are not letting me :( Roll on my physio appointment on the 5th July

Anyone looked at changing bags yet?

DesperateHousewife21 · 20/06/2012 10:02

The person that has asked to join the fb group can you pm me on here please just do I know it's you and not a random person!

I'm sure it's all fine but I really don't want to accept someone who hasn't mentioned it here first, thanks :)

I am hoping to BF this baby too - had a bit of a tough time with DD (which I now think was a combination of cracked, sore nipples and massive overanxiety on my part about it all). I ended up mixed feeding after 3 weeks at the suggestion of the HV, which made me feel rubbish and sad and guilty and relieved all at once. BUT, it ultimately saved BF'ing for me - I managed to carry on part BF'ing until 20 weeks ish and if I hadnt mixed fed I would have been forced to abandon BF'ing a lot sooner as DD stopped putting on weight when I did EBF.

While I know there are issues associated with it (breast refusal, milk supply reduced etc), mixed feeding worked really well for us, DH was involved, I got some rest, and DD got some BM too. She didnt care whether she was given bottle, breast or nipple shields, she coped fine with them all and it meant that when I returned to work when she was 5 months old, she was already perfectly happy with a bottle.

Am hoping BF goes well this time but I plan to introduce bottles and probably topping up with formula reasonably soon in, for the reasons above and because I will be back to work in the same timescale and dont want to be BF'ing more than first/last thing by that point - admire people who do manage to express etc at work, but it isnt practical for me.

PetiteRaleuse · 20/06/2012 10:18

I started off bf'ing with DD1 and have to admit I hated it. I am very bad with milk in general - can't handle it and spilt milk makes me nauseous - I actually chuck out sponges I have used to wipe up milk. So I mixed with ff the first few weeks and then had to go to hospital for a couple of weeks for another problem, so wasn't able to bf at all (or see DD, which was tough as she was only a couple of weeks old when I went in).

This time I will do the same (except for the scary hospital trip). I will ensure she gets the colostrum, and then once my milk comes in I will mix feed until I just can't hack it anymore.

I didn't expect to hate bf'ing - didn't realise my milk phobia would apply to me - and until I tried it was absolutely going to exclusively breast feed. I found expressing easier, so will maybe keep that up for longer.

I didn't feel guilty about the switch, though it was incredible how judgey some people (ie my mum) became about it -it caused some real rows with people in RL.

I think everyone does what is best for them. No-one wants to harm their baby but a happy medium has to be found.

There's a facebook group??

I am having trouble sleeping on my left - normally I sleep on my back but that is no longer very comfortable, so am switching from left to right and back again right through the night apparently. DH not amused.

horseylady · 20/06/2012 10:25

I keep going all light headed :/ very odd. Will try drinking more but not really hungry :( happened last night so I went to bed.

I would like to bf, but accept that it may not be possible so will see what happens!!

Welcome missskinney!!

And to the person asking about changing bags? What do you need those for?!! Nappies etc when you go out? Sorry very thick question there's all sorts of things I've no idea about. I still need to brave pram shopping!!

I can only sleep on my left or belly. Any reason you want to sleep on your left?

shanelle5 · 20/06/2012 10:27

I just tried reading through the sex tips link - I say try as no word of a lie, I only managed to get to no 19 and had to stop and bookmark it for later as I was laughing so much I started choking and felt like I was going to wee myself at the same time it was just too funny I couldnt cope! I think id got to the rhinestones and ketchup on the breasts part and that was me done. Huge LOL

Breast fed my 3 for a year each, but my lad was a greedy little thing so from 6 months I had to put a formula feed in the mix, there is still no filling him now he's 10. Like everyone else, the girls wouldn't entertain a bottle or dummy and went straight onto beakers. I wasn't bothered about other people, I used to just wap them out where ever we were, I got a few tuts but nobody ever dared say anything to me, I even wrote to my local MP when I had my first (12 years ago) to ask him to bring up a question in parliament about why there wasn't a clear law about a nursing mother being asked to leave cafe's etc. when in Scotland it was. Thankfully they've seen the light now.

I've now got my maternity belt FANTASTIC! If you suffer from back ache then I would highly recommend you to get one, I've also not had as many aches and pains in the old groin area since wearing it. I got mine off ebay from this seller here fast delivery and it's really high quality, I got this one because it all fastens on the side rather than the top where the bulk would show (by the way, I don't know the seller, just my recommendation).

Almost caught up on my sleep now, had a bit of a kip yesterday but mother phoning woke me up, first phone call off her in a year and only to check if I can still take her to hospital Angry!

eversomuch · 20/06/2012 10:31

DD is 15 months old and still BFing. I'm really happy we've been able to do it. I wanted to, but was aware that many women have difficulty. We had a few nursing strikes last year, which were very stressful, and then for a while, she'd only take breastmilk in bottles, so I was pumping endlessly (or so it seemed!), but by 8 months or so, she went back to the boob exclusively and now doesn't know what to do with a bottle.

I had hoped to BF for the first year, but we're both happy carrying on for now and DH is nothing but supportive, so I don't plan to stop. I guess I'm being a little bit lazy and just hoping she'll wean herself without my having to do much work, LOL. But I won't be surprised if I end up tandem feeding. Should probably read up in that sometime. :)

A friend of mine was devastated when she couldn't BF, but her LO is now 4yo and healthy and happy, and my friend now says she couldn't care less that she had to FF. So don't be too hard on yourself if BF doesn't work out.

ShellyBobbs · 20/06/2012 10:33

Horsey nappies, cream, wipes, bottle of water/baby juice, calpol, formula milk and bottle with water, travel changing mat, bonjela, dummies, rattles etc. This is all just off the top of my head and this is the BARE MINIMUM ie. nipping to the shop Shock

Regarding your lighthead :) how is your blood pressure? Mine is always really low when pregnant, it might be that.

DesperateHousewife21 · 20/06/2012 10:35

horsey the babycentre app told me today that low blood pressure is common in the 2nd tri which can make you feel dizzy/ light headed.

I get it pretty much everyday too esp when I stand up too quickly.

ShellyBobbs · 20/06/2012 10:40

Forgot to say aswell, yesterday morning I was sat on the side of the bed just getting up and this little baba kicked me so hard in the bladder that some wee came out Grin, honestly it was so hard! I'm feeling it all the time now, even this morning in the car, The Charlatans turned up very loud and driving over the many speed bump and it was still kicking away.

ShellyBobbs · 20/06/2012 10:41

bumps, we have many more than just one......

horseylady · 20/06/2012 10:58

Yes it's really low again around 77/45 just got the nurse to measure it. Little man kicking away though!

Erm ok re: all the stuff!! How much does a small person need?!! Lol yes I can see why a separate bag is needed. Will add to list!

DonnaDoon · 20/06/2012 11:24

Horsey lady just incase you did nt know there is a threrad in pregnancy about horseriding while pregnant. Just saw it and thought of you...that is all :)

DesperateHousewife21 · 20/06/2012 11:32

Free anti- wrinkle cream if anyone is interested.

Not saying you all need it! Just thought as its free why not lol, Ive entered it and Im only 22!

here

applepieinthesky · 20/06/2012 11:50

I think I felt baby kick yesterday for the first time but can't be sure. Nothing yet today though.

Thechick · 20/06/2012 12:04

Im very very pro breastfeeding, but i'm also very pro doing whats best for you and your baby, if ff suits you and your baby then so be it. I was pretty confident bf ds1 in public and I think its really sad that some women feel they need to go into toilets because of other peoples attitudes. I breastfed ds1 for about 18 months and i'm going back to work this time after 9 months so we'll see how it goes.

ShellyBobbs That sounds like a lot of stuff, lol

blonderthanred · 20/06/2012 12:13

Oh, that was a bit scary.

Just had this weird sensation like I had pinged the waistband of my leggings, a pain right in the middle of my bump and then suddenly more pain in the front and upper bit of my bump. Nothing like the lower bump pain I've had which I know is ligaments stretching and is usually momentary if I get up suddenly or sneeze! Had to breathe through the pain and couldn't stand up as it hurt, so I kind of leaned back in my chair as far as poss to get my body in a straight line.

Colleague (IT guy in his 20s) was rather alarmed and got me some water and I've since managed to stand and was much better once I could walk around.

Just had my scan yesterday which was great so I'm hoping the baby is fine, maybe it's just that my bump is starting to expand upwards? Or could be a BH which made my tummy muscles contract as well - I haven't had one of these before and this is my first DC so I have no idea what they're meant to feel like. I had my yoga class last night so it might be that, but it was all across the middle rather than a pulled muscle.

Anyone else had anything like this?

horseylady · 20/06/2012 12:32

I get an electric shock sensation when the baby kicks something. I assume he taps a nerve. Doesn't hurt just feels odd. Had a couple of uncomfortable moments but nothing really painful.

I've got no idea what bh feel like or contractions but I hope you're on.

ValiumQueen · 20/06/2012 12:43

A change of clean clothes at least plus all those things previously mentioned need to go with baby whenever you pop out. If you are staying overnight you will be lucky to fit anything for you in the boot.

I started expressing when babies were about two weeks old. Just taking off a bit before they fed, and then after. The bits I collected would then be given by DH in a bottle early evening when they tend to cluster feed. Babies had no trouble swapping from teat to nip. Never took a dummy though.

TheDetective · 20/06/2012 12:52

I can't wait to breastfeed, because of all the benefits for me and baba but more because I'm looking forward to getting the boys out in public, and having a good ole' slanging match with anyone who dares to object Grin

Arguementative bitch, moi? Never! Not yet met a midwife who wasn't a bit bolshy!

Me and DP went to watch Rock of Ages last night, and loved every second! I sang my way through it all! I am so glad we weren't sat near anyone!!! I'm thinking of going to see it as a musical now! Currently downloading the soundtrack!! Anyone else seen it?

While we were waiting for the film to start DP told me he was browsing mumsnet earlier on his lunch hour, and we had a good chinwag about all the ridiculous threads we had read such as calling out your sisters pet name at the height of climaxing lmao! So, be careful, I suspect DP may start posting soon ha!!

Off to work now! Scan tomorrow! Yippeee!
