Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
ShellyBobbs · 18/06/2012 18:02

Horsey Forgot to add, I'm going to start stocking up on the first 3 sizes as soon as I've had the scan. If everything goes OK with the scan then there will be no stopping me baby shopping.

Also I've bought my lot all their school uniforms for September, how good am I, after July's wage goes on baby stuff I'm getting my xmas shopping done while I'm still getting a full wage. Managed to secure myself a moses basket for free today :)

NervousAt20 · 18/06/2012 18:23

Good luck with your scan to tomorrow valium will you be finding out the sex?

DH I've had a look at the voucher and there's no online code and it has a barcode for the shop, not sure if scanning it then emailing would work or to post?

With nappies I picked up the started box from
Asda which you get a voucher for when you join there mother and baby club and have picked up a pack of newborns that we're on offer

Since I found out I was preg I've gained 7 pounds

shanelle5 · 18/06/2012 18:29

Horsey, inbox me with any questions and ill be happy to help. Meanwhile, these are the ones I use www.littlelambnappies.com
or these ones really are as easy and slim as disposables. The initial outlay seems a lot but they are birth to potty so you save at least £800 over the 2 years even with washing costs.

DesperateHousewife21 · 18/06/2012 18:38

nervous does it have an expiry date because we wouldn't be buying it til the last min so we can save up the amount.

ValiumQueen · 18/06/2012 18:46

I used fuzzibunz and probably will again after your comments shannelle as I did like the squidgy bum. I would use dispos if out and about. I found mine weed so much. I had twelve and washed each day. I will look at totsbots again. I thought they were really bulky, but that was 6 years ago.

My trust do not disclose gender so I will be looking for boy bits. I think it is a boy. Another scan at 34 weeks so am thinking about not paying for a private scan. We are thinking of Silas for a boy. Thoughts please...

NervousAt20 · 18/06/2012 18:50

The expiry is 31 Aug DH

Off to watch men and black tonight :-)!!

shanelle5 · 18/06/2012 18:55

Valium, I like Silas. Its different without being weird and it reads as it sounds iyswim. does it go with your sirname?

blonderthanred · 18/06/2012 19:09

I'm thinking of reusables so that's really interesting Shanelle. I was looking at the Pop-Ins, anyone any experience of them? We saw a demo at the baby show and it was about £170 for a box of 20 including night-time inserts and some freebies like a nappy bin, liners etc.

Lovely bright colours too. White looks so beautiful but I'm sure after a few washes it might not! We'll probably use some disposables too for travelling etc.

So nervous for my scan tomorrow. Please let everything be ok!

Passmethecrisps · 18/06/2012 19:14

I am really interested in the reusable nappies business. Is 20 enough? So they fit right up to potty training? I said to a frown recently that we were thinking about reusables. His repsonse . . . "oh aye. I remember thinking they would be a good idea". Read in the news that several councils in Scotland and trialling a nappy recycling scheme - separate bin with weekly pick ups. Would certainly make using both more manageable.

mrswee your weekend sound awful. Keep resting - sounds like nature
Is telling you to chill.

Passmethecrisps · 18/06/2012 19:15

Good luck with the scans tomorrow blonder and valium

SwissArmyWife · 18/06/2012 19:22

I used reusables for a little while with DD, the little lamb ones, bamboo and organic cotton. They have their good and bad points.

I think for me I was just too tired (and lazy) to use them in the end, DD was very high maintenance (still is!) and I just couldn't be bothered with them Grin

But I definitely agree they save a lot of money in the long run and are much better for the environment. :)

Good luck with the scans tomorrow, and valium, Silas is a lovely name imo :)

horseylady · 18/06/2012 19:25

What about if lo goes to nursery? Would they use these or is it disposables only? Guess I could ask. Erm put on about 1kg I think. Have a feeling im about to rapidly grow!! Baby kicking away wanting more space having to wear looser fitting clothes now as it dislikes buttons lol.

horseylady · 18/06/2012 19:27

We looked at silas but discounted it due to our surname. Luke or caleb are currently on our list!!

TheDetective · 18/06/2012 19:30

I remember with DS, 10 years ago, the nurseries around where we lived refused to use reusables, and insisted on having disposables. Anyone else ever had this?

Wasn't a problem for us, as we used disposables, mum used to get us a big box every month, from costco I think it was.

For us, we need the ease of disposables, as we don't have the drying space for anything really. It isn't a practical thing for us.

We will be getting the ones from kiddicare, 240 nappies for £20, which will last us a month. We will start off with pampers though for the newborn size, as I have consistently found these better for newborn sizes than other brands. Less leakage!!

I have 2 packs of 27 already, and plan to get 2-3 more. The first size are usually fine for about a month. I will get 2 boxes in size 3 too.

Don't do what I saw someone do the other week - put a size 4 on a newborn. I'm not sure what that mother was thinking! It was a 6lb baby for goodness sake! It leaked everywhere, right over ME!!

TheDetective · 18/06/2012 19:30

Cross post there Horsey!!

ShellyBobbs · 18/06/2012 19:34

Detective A 6 lb baby, yes please :)

Sophiathesnowfairy · 18/06/2012 19:42

Good luck to all the scans tomorrow.

Please could I have one of those 6 lb babies too? Preferably with a smallish head.

I am defo using disposables. I have enough washing as it is thank you. However you have all got me thinking I should start slipping them I into the trolley every couple of weeks.

MrsWee what an exhausting weekend you have had emotionally and physically. Make the most of your week at home.

I am getting nervous about my scan on Thursday. I worry that I have had my share with three healthy babies. This is probably a completely ridiculous worry but there it is. I could cry actually and would just like to get it over with.

applepieinthesky · 18/06/2012 19:46

I was only 6lbs when I was born so hoping I will have a similar size baby. Please don't let it be a whopper!

Bloody mobile double posting. I'm in the middle of switching my broadband provider to help cut costs before baby arrives so can't go on the laptop today. I miss my laptop.

YellowWellies · 18/06/2012 19:56

Well helpful elderly bloke locum doc didn't even examine me and sent me off with a pat on the head as a silly paranoid woman. He plain refused to admit that there are any conditions in pregancy that can cause a rash (he hadn't heard of any of the six on the NHS website) and told me to use anthisan.... facepalm. Is there any wonder that anyone with half a brain cell after receiving a diagnosis by telepathy and indifference like that would consider consulting Mr Google.

Mrswee sounds like you've had a hideous weekend :( - hope you feel better soon and whatever it is disappears as quickly as it arrived with no damage done.

YellowWellies · 18/06/2012 20:00

Did anyone read this article? www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2012/jun/16/breasts-breastfeeding-milk-florence-williams
Fascinating reading but worrying in places that our damage to the environment is now being passed onto our young by a toxic load carried within our bodies and breast milk. Despite this I'm going to try - you look at the wonders in it and there is no way we're smart enough to recreate this in dehydrated cows milk dust! But it is making me think twice about extended breast feeding which I had wanted to do.... what are other folks plans? Or is that a taboo topic?

FatimaLovesBread · 18/06/2012 20:09

I still haven't felt any movement Sad well I don't think I have. I sometimes think I've felt something but then I might have imagined it. I've got an anterior placenta so that could be the issue. What are your movements like? I'm quite big so I'd have thought is be feeling something soon.

Been out looking for cars this evening. We want something cheaper and maybe smaller but has to fit an Oyster in the boot. We keep getting distracted by brand new cars though Grin

daisychain76 · 18/06/2012 20:17

That must be so irritating YW and quite worrying if a doc is that ignorant those conditions. mrswee I hope you are having a better time now.

I am very interested in using reusable nappies this time, but my head starts spinning as soon as they are discussed, as there just seems so many options. I basically want the simplest possible, with the least amount of fiddling around putting bits together, if anyone has any recommendations.

I am going to work literally up til labour starts. I do one job for 6.5 hours per week so not entitled to maternity pay, so only taking my 4 weeks of annual holiday as leave from that. Will take three months from my other job and about the same from my phd, I think. As I work from home, this makes it a bit easier (I hope). Unless I win the lottery, in which case I will ditch them all for a couple of years!
