munz · 21/02/2006 10:09

ooh all u girls who are contracting, should I worry as i've not been at all? althou mum recons with us she didn't have any BH's or anything until about a week b4 we were born both times - that's what's causing the induction worries really and making me think i'll go over. literaly there's some movements but not a lot and i'm still only 3/5 (how can u get the head to move down more?)

OP posts:
munz · 21/02/2006 10:13

rosie- did u still want a snow suit - another Mnetter (nemo) has a couple for sale here here and a some other bits if u're intrested.

OP posts:
RosiePosie · 21/02/2006 11:09

Munz - got a snowsuit, thanks - £2.50 from ebay

Homebirth will only be effected if I go really late - they'll probably offer induction at 40+10, but I will ask for daily monitoring after that, rather than accept induction.

Don't worry about no contractions - I didn't feel a think with my first ( until labour obviously! )

laundrylover · 21/02/2006 11:13

RP is right Munz I didn't have a single twinge until my boringly long labour last time! Much better that way than these horrible happenings for weeks!
Think we all have MW appointment today eh? My MW is on holiday so get her meet her partner for the first time - hope I like her! Anyway likely to get anyone for my homebirth as we do not even have 7 day a week cover community MWs in my area.
God, I have so much work to do but really can't be bothered!

Marne · 21/02/2006 11:21

Do you all see the same midwife for all your appointments? Ive had 4 or 5 midwifes in the past 8 months!

munz · 21/02/2006 11:25

thanks for the tips girls,

marne - no i've seen about 8 I think in all (our town has two pratices which have 4/5 in each) i've seen 1 m/w 3 times but the rest once. they recon it's better to meet everyone so u know the face when u're in labour! lol.

Rosie - lets hope u only go to 40+8 at the longest then, and still get ur home birth.

LL - eeek, no 7 day community care! what happens if u go in on a day when there's no cover! lol.

Frizbetheexpansionset · 21/02/2006 11:28

Coppertop that is a new record

Marne, I've seen an assortment of midwives, just depends if my one is on call, doing home births or not, on hols etc?!

Munz, I only got braxtons in the last week last time, so don't worry about it!

Lizzylou · 21/02/2006 11:37

HI all
Been away from PC for a while due to ill DS (Conjunctivitis and Ear infection) but am bored bored bored!
All going OK, am dowing raspberry leaf tea like no-one's biz and have mastered the TENS m/c (didn't bother first time round)
Hope you are all well and good luck!

laundrylover · 21/02/2006 11:51

I see Ann my midwife every time, except when she is on hols. She did all my care with Tilly too and visits after the birth. She even came to see me in hospital and I cried on her so she helped me give Tilly a bath!!
I really would like her to do my birth but it isn't likely that she'll be on call so could end up with any old grump from an agency! To be fair Tilly was delivered by a student MW who was fab and I only saw one grotbag during my several days of comings and goings. In fact it was her who popped my waters and then Tilly was out in an hour and a half so guess she did me a favour eh?

laundrylover · 21/02/2006 11:57

Lizzy - all that gunk doesn't sound pleasant. We too are knee deep in snot and ooze!!
Just realised that Tilly's birthday is on pancake day so am going to have a pancake party for her little gang! DP out buying pass the parcel pressies etc as I type. She loves birthday parties and cakes and candles so I'm getting quite excited about it already - just hope I'm not in labour!! The pool doesn't arrive til the next day...

Lizzylou · 21/02/2006 12:13

You hero LL, I have booked a Wacky Warehouse type place for DS's birthday and his mates then having a smaller family get together the next day....hopefully baby will have come by then...otherwise it will be 2 1/2 weeks late!
I have seen the same 2 midwives all the way through (altho more of the Vicky Pollard one and less of the more authoritative, matronly one who is fab!)...it's like good cop/bad cop!

laundrylover · 21/02/2006 12:44

LL, Only having 5 or 6 kids round and we are going out for Sunday lunch with all the family as copped out of house party for 40 that happened last year!!
LOL at Vicky Pollard MW!!! What is your due date Lizzy?
Am trying to fill in my Mat Allowance form and it's a nightmare so have given up and will hand over to DP!

vickiyumyum · 21/02/2006 13:20

Munz - thats why i had c/s ds1 didn't want ot come out failed induction his head was too big to descend into my pelvis and put pressure on my cervix to make it dilate! and ds2 was awkaward and was breech until the lasst minute and by then i was prepped for theatre so carried on.
ds1 was long and thin so he went straight to 0-3 month clothes and they lasted as long as they said on the label, he was always in age appropriate clothing e.g at 5 months was in 3-6 month clothes. whereas ds2 who was 10lb6oz (2oz more than ds1) was short and dumpy, so i hadn't brought any newborn assuming they wouldn't fit, but had to go and buy soem as 0-3 was huge. the newborn only lasted for a couple of weeks max, and then into 0-3 whicxh didn't last long he has always been in bigger sizes than he is, he's now 4 and has to have age 5-6 clothes for the height, hes gone from being short and basically fat to tall and stocky, no sign of a belly on him at all, just great big rugby player thighs!!

romilly · 21/02/2006 13:20

welcome to the thread Astrophe

marne - i have those pins and needles too, in my wrists and hands - very ouchy when i wake up.

munz - no discernable braxtons here yet either. unless i am just being very unaware of my body which is quite possible! my acupuncture was v. relaxing but not sure if its going to bring on the baby or make her turn. i have been really bad about doing the walking on all fours thing - my acupuncturist told me to "visualize" her turning as much as i can, hmmmm, not sure thats gonna work!!!!

you guys are very chatty today - i am off to my hospital tour now so will leave you all to it

Frizbetheexpansionset · 21/02/2006 13:21

Ouch Ixel from feb thread just delivered a 9lbs 15oz er! (luckily by c, as running rather late!)

Lol at vickipollard midwife llou

LL is it next week then pancake day?? as was confused by another thread on here saying it was today! and I don't have a calander to hand....

Marne · 21/02/2006 14:48

I thought pancake day was today friz,oh well i'm having pancakes, been looking fowerd to them all week, beter not tell dh or he will make me wait till next week!

Astrophe · 21/02/2006 15:07

Always seem to miss you all when you are on and chatting...I wait till DD is asleep in the afternoons.

Marne- I had awful carpel tunnel syndrome in my hands last pregnancy...its the pits huh? I remember shaking my hands really hard helped and sleeping with my hand elevated on pillow made it not so bad in the morning.

Had no BH contractions last time (and went 8 days over)...but I'm having lots this time...don't know which is worse!? Am also having back pain that reminds me of labour with DD (posterior...yuck)...so its exciting 'cos maybe labour is soon but scary 'cos maybe this one is posterior too .I should get down and scrub the floor to turn it, but I'd be stuck down there until DH comes home.

Friz - yes, going to Derby City...had a tour last week. Looks ok...the room with the birthing pool looks good so hopefully will have the type of birth where I can use it! When I had DD in Sydney it was in a brand new Birthing Centre, so I think I was a little disappionted with DCGH...but the staff seemed nice.

Marne - I have always seen the same midwife (but we've only been here since Christmas), and she will come after the birth to visit us, but will definately not be at the hospital for the birth. Shame, as she is lovely. Hope I don't get some nasty cow at the hospital...am a bit fragile when in labour!

MW visit today was fine...baby is fine...not in labour yet though.

Astrophe · 21/02/2006 15:18

Does anyone (esp. those local to Derby) know of a good photographer? We are thinking of getting some nice family shots done after Bub comes, to send back to family in Aust. Not interested in those guys that give you a 'free' shoot session then charge a mint for the actual prints though, 'cos we will need lots of prints!

munz · 21/02/2006 15:34

afternoon all,

well we have good news form my camp! the head's now fully engagd althou I must say I expected to be waddaling more/at least have more pressure etc from the head but apparently the m/w can't move the head - and as she was a particually stern big looking m/w I didn't like to argue - today's esitate is 7-8.5 lb but she did say she always over estimates! - but to ask again in 2 weeks! still 37 CM and no protein which is good.

LL - lol@ viki pollard - how annoying is that programme? and that catherine tate - well she's even worse!

vyy - nout wrong with rugby thighs! lol. it's good to know at least my little clothes will have some wear! lol.

rom - fingers crossed LO does move for u, hopefully the sessions will prompt something to move as well. how did u tour of the ward go?

anyhow best get and tidy up/ get the dinner on.

I keep sniggering at the Vicky Pollard midwife image too.

The system at our GP's surgery is that there are 2 MWs. They take it in turns to do 2 weeks at the surgery and in the community and then 2 weeks at the hospital. It worked well until one of the MWs realised she preferred working at the hospital so now I just see the other MW. She's very nice though and nothing like VP, I'm pleased to say.

After the hospital MW put the fear of god into me last week by talking about prolapsed cords and oxygen deprivation if my waters break while the baby's in this position, I think I must be the only one on this thread hoping not to go into labour just yet! You lot can have my share of the labour vibes instead.

laundrylover · 21/02/2006 16:07

Just back from seeing 'the other' midwife and luckily she was very nice! Reckons she'll be my homebirther as she's always on call but is a fan of water births so that's fine.
Baby is back-to-back!!! First I've heard so the little blighter needs to get turning and not sure if I can scrub floors with my spd!!
Rom am sending you turning vibes....
Munz, sounds like that heads well and truly in there eh? Do you think it's uncomfortable for them after months of floating around???
at the size of Ixel's baby on Feb thread!

laundrylover · 21/02/2006 16:10

My diary says Pancake Day is the 28th but why not have them twice - they are sooo yummy! my fave is the trad lemon and sugar....

Astrophe · 21/02/2006 16:36

Seems not worth it at the time LL, but if I were you I would do what I could to turn that bub around! Do you have a birth ball you can lean over ? (more relaxing than scrubbing floors). Wish I had done it last time.

Lizzylou · 21/02/2006 16:38

I luuuurrrvvve pancakes, just my luck if I am in labour then!
LL, my due date is 5/3/06...but they have said that they won't let me get to term as baby is a bit of a whopper.
Munz...all systems go now hun!

Good luck everyone xxx

laundrylover · 21/02/2006 16:54

Astrophe, thanks for reminding me about the birth ball which is somewhere in the loft! Will get DP searching...
It just been snowing here but all soggy now.
