soandsosmum · 14/06/2012 14:45

oh and I wondered, has anyone bought any of the mumsnet books?

i'm tempted to get one, but would love a recommendation :-)

SpottyTeacakes · 14/06/2012 15:57

Haven't read any of the books, which were you looking at?

Sorry for the prolific posting today Blush I definitely have a bump, not sure how much longer I can keep this secret! And definitely felt some movement!

mama2many · 14/06/2012 16:50

Yes i have baby, toddler an pregnancy defo recommand them if anything they made me laugh alot and made me feel normal.

Hope this helps

kalidasa · 14/06/2012 16:53

I've got the mumsnet pregnancy book, but I had it sent to my work address just before I was admitted to hospital and haven't been at work since so I only looked at it once. It must still be in my desk drawer in my office. I did like what I saw of it though.

I've also got "What to Expect When You're Expecting" which is really awful, so patronising and v. dry. Quite thorough though if you like that and has a scary step-by-step guide for your partner on how to deliver the baby in case you are caught short!!

brooke89 · 14/06/2012 17:36

So sorry to hear that dilly I hope you get lots of support and rest!

Anyone else still really bloated? by the end of the day I have a really big obvious belly! Wasn't there a lady In America who had octuplets? Am I being really silly but how did they all fit?!?!? she must of been huuuuuge!

Bellaboo123 · 14/06/2012 18:53

Dilly so sorry for your loss big hugs x

Happy birthday ladies!!!

I'm feeling bloated too especially as the day goes on...blrgh...!

My boobs are expanding by the day...my bra usually comes of by lunch! Went to m&s today and got some new bras...2nd lot, let's see how long these last!!!

Ive been having a feel of my belly looking for my harden uterus...really not sure what I'm looking for...has anyone not felt anything?

Have we got many first scans to go? I'm so looking forward to my second one...roll on end of July!

mumtoAG · 14/06/2012 19:38

I've started with the bump, maternity clothes by 9 weeks this time. (Clearly all muscles were completely shot with DD1). It's the 'you've put on weight' rather than the nicely formed bump. I guess if I told people at work then I wouln't mind, but I hate telling people, being the centre of attention, and besides a colleague had a miscarriage just before Easter, so I don't want to upset her.

blackcurrants · 14/06/2012 19:57

Oh I loathed "What to Expect" - horrible writing, odd and unpleasant mixture of chirpy and patronising in tone, and lots of scaremongering.

I liked Ina May Gaskin's 'guide to childbirth' for lots of stories about happy, easy births (good to read in the last months, when everyone is freaking you out!) and I wish I'd had the MN guide as a laugh is very important!

DH and I had a great time at the scan - no long wait, very friendly sonographer called Karen, the Sprout was doing what s/he needed to do and all measurements were got, then I saw him/her wiggling and sucking on fingers, and heard that lovely galloping heartbeat... ahhhh, I got a bit misty-eyed. DH sat there with a great big grin on his face and afterwards we went out for McDonald's (we are classy) and had a nice little chat. I can't remember the last time we've had lunch without DS, actually, it was practically a date! :) [easily pleased emoticon]

Mummycox · 14/06/2012 20:34

So sorry for your losses ladies, hope you're getting the support you need.

I have what to expect and read it on a Saturday for the introduction and knowledge I feel I need, but SIL got me the rough guide to pregnancy which is quite funny yet still informative and a lot less "you will be doing this in week x"

I want a pedicure. Stamps foot.

cherrypiew3 · 14/06/2012 21:12

CODwidow · 14/06/2012 22:33

So sorry dolly Sad

Not sure who it was that asked now but I am still working but I do that from home so a bit easier.

V.emotional tonight for no apparent reason just can't stop blubbing!
I have started nesting already I'm sure of it, went out and bought a load of storage/toy boxes, wardrobes and bits so we can rearrange the boys rooms over the weekend. I also want dh to move our wardrobe and I'll sort all our clothes. That way we'll have plenty of space/storage for bump Smile. I also plan on painting our hallway next weekend and sorting the kitchen cupboards. Maybe I just remember how hard all this is closer to the time so getting it out of the way now Grin

Equimum · 15/06/2012 08:17

Dolly so sorry to hear of your loss. My thoughts are with you.

Starting to get nervous about scan next week. Had one at 8-9 weeks due to a bit of bleeding and everything was fine then, so I know the odds are in my favour, esp. as no further bleeding/ symptoms still very real. Anyone else booked for scan on Wed 20th?

Also, is anyone else (who hasn't already) nervous about telling other people? If scan at, we're planning to tell my mum Thursday, but I feel kind of awkward. She's been hinting, wel more telling us, for ages that she wants more grandchildren, but she's so negative all the time and I know will have very different expectations to what we have.

NaomiRuth · 15/06/2012 08:34

So sorry about your news Dolly. Thinking of you.

I've got my 12 week scan at 10.30 this morning, am 12 + 4. We're planning on telling more people (already told parents and boss) after this. Got a big family party tomorrow, so will probably tell then, but maybe just later during the afternoon rather than making a big thing at the start. Then just telling friends as we see them. Bit anxious though, not sure if we should wait for risk factor from combined screening, as this is another 10-15 days. Did anyone else wait for this?

Clarella · 15/06/2012 09:35

So sorry for your losses dilly and cherry.

I am still struggling to announce /admit to people at 16+ 4 - i'll feel better after mw and heartbeat next tues and also after consultant on thurs, then after the 20 wk scan! Wondering if ill get a scan on thurs too.

I ended up not doing the nuchal thing so can't advise - its been lovely telling my nearest and dearest and if there was a problem I feel I can talk to them openly.

Oh god, this is so sad but I'm feeling so clingy and bored I have agreed to watch 2 effing hours of football tonight with my DH - who is more delighted and excited than I thought possible and is telling everyone that i am doing this which is filling me with fear - "you will discuss it with me won't you?" being my main fear as I thought a chance to get on with over due sewing and maybe do a lino cut. I was made to do football at a school that had just begun to take girls as a 7 yr old and the memory of being picked last, a foggy pitch and eternally being in goal when very short sighted makes me detest it. Rugby was ok cos the boys wouldn't tackle the girls.

Clarella · 15/06/2012 09:36

All the best for scans today ladies! Xx

Clarella · 15/06/2012 09:38

The only good thing was clippy cloppy boots.

(next thread bumping!)

soandsosmum · 15/06/2012 09:46

thanks for the recommendation. i may splurge on the book

i also loved ina may's book - really encouraging about birth. i've just got it off the shelf and put it next to my bed so i can read a positive birth story each night.

i have what to expect in the first year, which is dry, but useful and very flexible about what babies will be doing in which months, which I have found really helpful with dd1. helps me not to worry if she's not doing certain things other children her age are (e.g. she doesnt really say any words ATM (1 year old)

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 15/06/2012 09:52

dolly sorry for your loss, i wish you all the luck in he world for the future x

have we got a new thread yet?

cant remember who asked but my scan is weds 20th i will be 14 weeks by then, so bored of waiting, really wanna tell the kids, everyone else knows already though lol

well i was sick this morning but it was out of nowhere and i havn't felt sick at all, fingers crossed its finally ending :)

good luck for scans today!

livismum · 15/06/2012 10:45

Good luck with the scan Naomi I've been wondering about whether to tell people after or wait for test results too it's a tricky one! Probably I'll gradually tell all the family but leave the big work and friends announcement till after results!

SpottyTeacakes · 15/06/2012 11:03

Well no one at works said happy birthday too me and dp got me a card from him and one from dd but not even a token gift Sad

livismum · 15/06/2012 11:08

knottyhair · 15/06/2012 11:09
