Thinking of you McKayz and hoping the time goes quickly and isn't too hard for you. I'm crap when DH is away but you do get yourself into a "routine" and things don't you? Doesn't make it feel any better in that first few hours/days after they've gone though and it feels like the end of the world :(

(((big hugs)))

ffnorm · 05/05/2012 10:03

McK if a 3 and 5 year old take up as much room (with increasing proportion age wise) as a 2 1/2 year old,I'm surprised you have managed to stay on the bed Grin Grin

McKayz · 05/05/2012 10:12

ffnorm I don't know how they do it. They were also huggled up together.

Gwen yeah we'll soon settle into a routine. It might be strange but I find tv program's help. If its a series so one on a week can help the time go quicker.

DS1 looks like he has chicken pox now. Only about 4 spots but they look like DS2's from the other week.

DairyNips · 05/05/2012 10:39

Sorry you're so tired McKayz. Hope you sleep better tonight.

Smallwonder · 05/05/2012 11:45

McKayz You're bound to be tired today, take it as easy as you can. I hope time flies in for you and DH. I hope it's not CP with DS1 but if it is, do you have anyone around that might be able to give you some breathing space?

Tea Whoop for baby tea :o So happy to hear about his progress and that he'll be home soon, yay!

ffnorm Glad you had ease in wedding outfit buy, won't be long till you're actually wearing it, I am desperately counting this month away.

I'm not sure if I want to go anywhere now, I just feel so tired. I don't have the energy to even pack my DSs bags. It hurts to bend down, pick stuff up, put on my shoes etc.. DH says it's like this every time at this point and to take it easy but it's such a vicious circle, I'm fed up being at home with the DC, want to go and visit my friends and enjoy this planned meal out etc.. just cannot muster the energy to drive the 2.5 hours there and back, do the meal, pack etc.. What is wrong with me?! DC have just helped change all the beds and hang washing, that's my lot, now sporting swollen legs how many more days please Kveta 27, 28, 29? Lost count, NOT! :o
Sorry for whinge.

blondiedollface · 05/05/2012 12:45

McKayz Have as much rest as you can, and I'm sure the next 8 weeks will absolutely fly by!

Small I know how you feel, the thought of leaving the house or doing anything too much fills me with dread... However at the same time I have massive urges to paint absolutely everything that needs re-doing, to sand and strip the table MIL gave us, to put up the curtain poles and to make another set of curtains for the downstairs back room... DH has accused me of nesting - not sure but it does all need doing!!

Have a lovely BH weekend everybody Xx

McKayz · 05/05/2012 13:05

I've just been cheered up by a really really funny thread. Here it's brilliant. Providing you don't mind pigeons.

ceeej · 05/05/2012 14:15

DH and I just had a massive giggle at that thread McKayz, thanks for brightening a rather dull day :)

gwenniebee · 05/05/2012 17:50

I agree about the tv programs McKayz - not only when DH is away can I watch the things that are too low-brow for him, but it also helps to clock the weeks off! I found that worked when he was living away but back at weekends too. Hope DS1 is ok...

Well, I am feeling muchly smug today :) Went this morning to the house of a lady we met sort of simultaneously via church and via going to Oxfam on the way back from church about 2 months ago. She collects and sorts all the baby wear for Oxfam in the South East, I think. Certainly it's a huge area. So she said to give her a list of all the things we need/want and she would sort out lots of stuff for us to look at. Gave her a vast list with everything from blankets and babygros to change mat and bag..... went this morning and now I think we have everything we need to get started! Not only is it all really exciting actually getting things for our real live baby, but it was so completely bargainous and the money we did spend goes to a good cause. Have just spent a happy afternoon cutting labels off things and sorting them into the baby's drawers. And because the inner Scot in me wanted to, finding out how much everything would have cost new and gloating over my savings... If anyone in the Herts/Bucks/Beds etc area thinks she would be a useful contact, message me and I'll send you her number!

Small I wonder if you have gone in the end... hope you're having a lovely time if so and that it's worth it!

blondiedollface · 05/05/2012 18:35

Gwen Love getting a bargain and even better when the money you did spend goes to a good cause!! We have bought quite a few things on e-bay as we split the list evenly between my parents and DH's parents and DH's haven't bought a single thing (mine have gone over and beyond by a long way esp my dad and the cot he bought us) so long story short we have gotten a good £250-300 worth of New with tags/bought never used/used in fab condition stuff and all for less than £50!! It's amazing what you can get when you keep looking and persevere :)

Are there any good series on tv that I should be watching, as I feel as though there are perhaps things that I might enjoy but not necessarily taking any notice of..?

ffnorm · 05/05/2012 18:54

That ia an amazing saving Gwennie,I started to wash all the clothes my friend gave me and realised how much she has saved me!!!

Small hope you went,I know how sometimes everything feels too much but when you get out and do something nice,it breaks the mundane Smile

We had my cousin and his girlfriend over for lunch today, wasn't looking forward to the cooking etc but had such a lovely time and they brought the starter and dessert so meant I didn't have to do too much. And thank heaven for the dishwasher Grin

Kveta · 05/05/2012 19:17

bargains sound great gwennie! if we needed any more stuff, I'd be asking for contact details, but we are a bit overwhelmed with baby crap now. Did the last of the washing load today, and have all the teeny clothes hanging up to dry - a friend came round, and was going all gooey over them too :o

blondie Modern Family has us in stitches here. had to get the DVDs, as we don't have sky, but it is hilarious. We don't tend to watch much TV anymore, and never were ones for drama anyway, so a quick sitcom dose every few days does us fine! Which reminds me, I have billions of friday night comedy podcasts to catch up on - since I've been pregnant this time, I've found wearing headphones makes me sick, so haven't been able to listen to my usual fix of iplayer catch up at work! so annoying!

1 month to go! 1 month! have been sending 'pack your bags missy, you're moving out soon' vibes to baby today, so she has been kicking like mad. Not helped by her brother headbutting me in the bump as often as he can this afternoon. grr.

DS was ridiculous again this morning. We're trying to talk to him more in czech, and the czech word for digger is 'bagr' - pronounced 'bugger'. So getting him dressed and held up his 'bagr' JCB tshirt, which he decided he didn't want to wear - so DH just heard from the bedroom 'no mummy no bagr me!' which he found perturbing, to say the least :o We have decided maybe to keep to english for 'digger' from now on...

we got new curtains for the lounge today, and they look so good - so that's one more room nearly done. And DH has been hanging pictures, so we have art (and some crap I've drawn!) on the walls at last, it makes such a difference. Feels more like home now.

hope the weather is better tomorrow, it's been very 'meh' today. thinking of taking DS to a miniature railway tomorrow. Because that's just what an 8 months pregnant whale needs to be doing. sigh.

SpecialJK · 05/05/2012 19:24

Hi all. Had yesterday off work and me and DH went into London for a day out. Was lovely .

mckayz hope the time flies quickly for you. I know what it's like to have DH away, but at least I didn't have pregnancy / DC too, so hope everything runs ok for you

tea yay for baby tea! He obviously was just impatient and wanted to go home, that's why he insisted on coming early

Just finished nursery decoration today. Looks gorgeous if I do say so myself Smile really pleased with it. Got a photo of me standing beside cot with bump

thedogwalker · 05/05/2012 19:54

Tea that is amazing news, so happy for you, go babyt Grin
McKayz Thinking of you, hope the days fly by for you.
Bemy thats pant about the flat, but good for you with the positive attitude.
Surf Hope you are feeling better today sending you lots of hugs
I've been at a 3 yo birthday party today with my DS. He was very tired by the end of it and so was I. It was 3 hour round trip aswell as the time at the party, don't feel like doing much tonight. Early night me thinks.

Hope everyone is well, take care xx

PinkPanther27 · 05/05/2012 20:58

Hello all, havent been on here for a while and have a memory like a sieve so bear with me!
Tea- glad to hear youre both doin well and you'll be able to bring babytea home soon.
Gwennie- I love bargains. Ive got liads although i forgot to bid on a birthing pool today and saw that it went for 99p! It could have been yellow and mouldy though :-)
Blondie- hope youre rested up and contractions are under control.
McKayz- sorry youre on your own, hope u have some good friends nearby to lift your spirits and help u with little one.
Thats it, thazs all I remember now. I have been putting pressure on dh to get things done today. Ive got him to move the second freezer i bought into the right place so i can start batch cooking nutritious meals for when im breastfeeding and to move the furniture in the nursery so I can finally put away the hoardes of ironing ive done. Off to clean the freezer in a mo. Bit of a struggle to get ds to sleep tonight as neighbours are having a v noisy garden party. My ds stood at his windowsill shouting "stop screaming im trying to go to sleep" which worked for about 5 mins then i went and knocked on the door. Theyre still being just as noisy though grrrrr

Novmama · 06/05/2012 10:43

Good morning - another wet Sunday! Like lots of us finding it hard to log on and keep up let alone post - so tired! 35 weeks now - lo no longer breech thank goodness but lots of uncomfortable kicks and very disconcerting feelings in the undercarriage areaBlush. Heartburn better but still there generally in the evening - those who are suffering greatly you have my sympathy.
ceej - your dental experience sounds familiar - I had a filling replaced on Weds with no injection! Was one very painful bit but I just kept thinking this is nothing compared to labour!
warlin and others re bf. Its the hardest thing I ever did - the first 6 weeks were trying - painful and hard work which no one ever tells you. I ended up only being able to feed lying down as I could just not get a good latch. 4.5 months of lying down but then clicked and unbelievably I fed DD until she was 2 years and 10 months! Take all the advice, help and support you can get. Our hospital has a drop in support clinic which was good (except once I was home I couldn't recreate the positions they had put me in and ended up lying down! Clearly wont' be able to spend 4.5 months lying down for every feed this time round with a lively 3 year old but hoping it will be easier. Also be prepared for the pain - something no one ever tells you[shocked].

tea - your birth story inspirational - thanks for sharing with us. Many congratulations. A good reminder that anything can happen! Ladies - do a birth plan but keep an open mind!

On a different note - anyone taking Vit D supplment - anyone been advised to do so! Read alarming article in Guardian yesterday - apparently all pregnant women should be taking a supplement but its never been mentioned? Health issues associated with lack of sun - esp bearing in mind awful spring we are not having. I'm going to ask my MW on Fri when I see her next. Plus still considering GBS test - again my MW looked blankly at me and said there was no need! What are the rest of you doing? I'm aiming for VBAC in which case feel I should do a test.

Oh well - time for tea and cake on the sofa!

CathFin · 06/05/2012 14:02

Novmama - the Vit D news has been a bit surprising but as I havn't taken supplements for first two pregnancies I'm not too worried, saying that I might go and have a look at the Guardian article... also not doing GBS test, don't really want to have to worry myself about that either.

Have my 34 week app with mw on Thursday so might mention above and see what they say although I doubt they will have a clue!

Need to dust off my birth plan and put a bit more detail in, it was rather sparse last time I think!

Baby has I think had its back facing out this morning so I have kind of felt it moving but not much, its on the move again now - but its very disconcerting as yesterday it made me feel like barfing as it was biffing about in there so much.

CathFin · 06/05/2012 14:18

Its here if anyone wants to read it:
www.guardian.co.uk/society/2012/may/05/vitamin-d-deficiency-sunlight-health?INTCMP=SRCH

ffnorm · 06/05/2012 14:52

Luckily most of the "good" pregnancy vitamins contain 10micrograms of Vit D but as you say Nova it's not discussed - interestingly my mat notes have a sticker on the front that says something along the lines of "it is now recommended that pregnant woman take Vit D" but it was never explained why etc Hmm

McKayz · 06/05/2012 14:59

I'd never ever heard of that before now. I knew they had started to say that breastfed babies should have vitamin drops.

Kveta · 06/05/2012 15:37

vit D was discussed with me at my booking appointment, and the midwife said it seems to be a much bigger issue in the North (north of Birmingham, IIRC, due to sunlight exposure) than it is around here. I did read some research on it during my PhD, and I think it is possibly a bit over-exaggerated - but it won't hurt to take supplements. Most pregnancy vitamins have 5mcg of vitamin D IIRC, which will keep us ticking along, but won't replenish supplies used over winter.

regarding breastfeeding and vitamin drops - similar story - if baby is breast fed and then at 6 months weaned onto solids that do not involve leafy veg and red meat, then vitamin drops are a good idea. If baby is weaned onto a good diet, it should not be an issue. the drops are recommended from 6 months onwards anyway, and certainly according to 2 HVs I spoke to, if you have a decent diet, then baby should not need them...

I am in a total grump today, we went to a miniature railway, and it was fun, but we were supposed to be meeting friends, and they were 2 hours late, so we had to leave by then, as DS was getting tired. DH and I are no good at socialising, as we prefer to do stuff in the morning, having got up at 5.30am, whereas everyone we know prefers meeting in the afternoons, when DS needs a nap! I got very annoyed too, as overheard 2 different sets of siblings called by the names our DC will be called. So we are re-thinking Emilie now, but cannot come up with anything else we like. She will be known as Emmy probably, but it's still so bloody common/popular in this area. Gah. Wish we could use scottish names, but DH's side of the family would never be able to pronounce them :( So I am miserable git at the moment.

10000fireflies · 06/05/2012 18:38

It's annoying we haven't all been told about the Vit D. There was an article on Woman's Hour the other week and someone was saying it was now NHS policy to advise pregnant women accordingly. In fact, I think we are supposed to be give a prescription. I met someone recently (20 something), who'd been diagnosed with vit D deficiency/early rickets. She'd never been out in the sun without sunscreen or being covered up.

McKayz how are you doing?

Kveta Oh dear, that's a crap way for your day to pan out. If you like the name Emilie, then stick with it. It is possible to go too unique with name choices....

Novmamma I was going to do the GBS test, but was reassured by MW at NHS class that it is only necessary if your waters break early. But then, like everything else, I am undecided!! I have even decided a C-sec could be ok now!!

I did some shopping in town while DH was at the gym and treated myself to a glam purple underwired bra. I didn't dare ask for help though (as couldn't stand another talking to about wires and pregnancy) and have overdone the sizing a bit as wires sticking in armpits. Ooops.

Oh, who's got an outie? Mine's hours away from it now.... Not feeling v glam all in all.

DairyNips · 06/05/2012 18:48

I am on vit D through thee midwife. I have to take calcium and vid D chewable tablets and folic acid. Apparently in this area you get it prescribed if your BMI is over 30 (mine was 30 at booking in)

DairyNips · 06/05/2012 18:49

I never had to take it the last two times though so it must be a fairly recent thingHmm

gwenniebee · 06/05/2012 19:18

Tea realised that despite posting a couple of times I haven't yet expressed my excitment for you at the impending home-going of BabyTea! Hope your weekend is going well and things are still looking good :)

Kveta grrrr to your friends being so late! I'd have been more than grumpy I think... how flipping inconsiderate! Emilie is a lovely name though and don't be put off it if you like it :)

Re the vit D thing - I was never told about it but I do remember reading about it early on. Then I also remember hearing something on the Today programme in January I think about it. I have taken pregnacare throughout so think I'm probably ok...... (fireflies I have just announced to my DH, "See, this is why I like mn. There are people on here who quote Woman's Hour.")

Also fireflies mine has been hovering on the verge of outie-dom for weeks now but I think it's finally tipped over the edge in the last ten days or so. Cue embarrassing tummy button moments on the few days it's been warm enough to go without a vest top underneath. Blush

Am going to try and recreate something with marzipan and puff pastry that I had in a motorway service station in France!! Not often one would try and recreate service station food but the French know a thing or two about pastry. I shall report as to my success!!
