Novmama I'm fairly sure I'm going to order a GBS test at 37-ish weeks. There's no harm in it, and 30 quid seems reasonable for peace of mind. The possible consequences of passing GBS to baby sound serious enough to me to warrant it, though I realise the chances are slim and most people will be unaffected.

fireflies Another one whose hovering on outie-dom here! I have to say, the sight makes me feel a bit ick... I keep sucking in my stomach whenever I notice it. Fingers crossed it doesn't get any worse in these last few weeks!

gwenniebee Is that a galette du roi? Puff pastry with marzipan filling and (I think) traditionally a little procelain figure buried somewhere inside it - a bit like the tuppence in a Christmas pudding. Yum!

Had the first of three NCT classes today. The group (about 8 couples) seemed really lovely, which bodes well for staying in touch. Our teacher was pretty good, though almost too chilled - the afternoon did drag somewhat, and we were all feeling pretty dozy by the end. Very strong anti-epidural message, so two women who have very clearly already decided that they're going for the drugs seemed a bit nonplussed (it's such a tightrope, isn't it?). Our only disappointment is that we spent the whole time going through the details of labour/birth, which DH and I had already kind of covered at hypnobirthing (and which get referred to every week at preggy yoga), whereas what we really wanted was a bit more instruction about the actually 'caring for baby' stuff (you know, nappies and baths and temperatures and safe sleep, etc.). Here's hoping we get more of that next week, and not too much time spent on breathing exercises...

ChateauMargot · 06/05/2012 21:28

who's

actual

thedogwalker · 06/05/2012 21:51

Kveta I also like to do everything in the morning as DS still has an afternoon nap, which I too sometimes indulge in. So I too would have been annoyed. My belly button also on the verge of popping out, gross. Had no advice from MW regarding vit D but my MW is pretty useless so that hasn't surprised me. I think I will ask her about it on Thursday at my 34 week check. Hope everyone has had a good weekend xx

gwenniebee · 06/05/2012 22:17

chateau that sounds exactly it - I just used puff pastry and marzipan anyway! (Actually, it was Waitrose Brandy Marzipan.... double yum.) Anyway, jolly yummy and dead easy with cheat's puff pastry (it was even pre-rolled... [hangs head in shame]) so we'll be doing that again.

Very interested to read your feedback re NCT. That was exactly how we felt about ours - it was really good and I found that it really helped me to feel that what I'd assumed was "right" to do/think was generally acceptable. The anti-drug message was fairly strong but equally the lady did say that there are no prizes for doing it without and we would only know what was right for us when we are in the situation. She was very chilled out though and there were moments when I was thinking "this is lovely but I'm paying to sit here and meet friends!". I've just done my feedback on the course this afternoon and wrote that we could have done with more on the "bringing up baby" as well as the "getting baby out". If your course follows that pattern mine did, be prepared for a pretty harrowing session on all the things that can go wrong in labour next week! Scary at the time but I see where they were coming from as I do feel more prepared that I'll understand what's going on and why if it does all go horribly wrong...... which it won't, obviously Wink

Smallwonder · 07/05/2012 01:11

Hello girls,
Thought I'd write a quick post before a proper one tomorrow as can't sleep -- baby has definitely dropped and movements are more Kung fu like now and actually hurt, anyhow, have just done a very silly thing... Please don't try this at home....
Ive had 3 sections yet found it necessary to watch one being performed on You Tube now -- so not only am I wide awake but also feel sick and wiped out Blush
I didn't go away Sad the drive to meet PIL half way near Bristol to drop the dc was more than enough, and will never go best another twiglet again, bleugh. On the plus side our friends said they'll do the meal up here as I can't travel down Grin glad to not be missing out entirely!
Shouldn't have watched video...
It's all coming back to me and in some cases, ignorance is bliss!
Bring on the sleep please, c u all tomorrow I hope.

Smallwonder · 07/05/2012 02:07

Sigh. Only me then and DHs bloody snoring HmmEnvyHmmEnvyAngry

Smallwonder · 07/05/2012 04:07

Ok. Point taken Grin

Kveta · 07/05/2012 08:57

have been up since 5.30, DS has a sniffle so is being feeble. however, the sun is shining, so when DH gets up, we'll be off out for a walk to the park!

belly button hasn't popped here, but didn't last time either. no idea if baby has dropped.

I've just been investigating jubilee celebrations around here for FIL to see whilst he's here. there is surprisingly little local to us sadly. Can't go too far afield though, as my due date is the jubilee weekend!!

god, i am sick of children's tv this morning... bananas in pyjamas is so so bad.

ffnorm · 07/05/2012 09:12

Poor Small that you were awake and all alone at 0200 til after 0400!! Can sympathise though, there are many nights that the snoring gets me down - he just falls asleep so fast,if I could fall asleep 1st then the snoring doesn't wake me unless it is a particularly bad night... Silly silly woman for watching the C/S on youtube - what were you thinking???

ffnorm · 07/05/2012 09:15

Kveta - I just upset DS by saying a don't like Agent Oso,he looked at me like I was truely evil Confused

Waiting for DH to get out the bath (he takes the longest baths ever) then going to get out the house and make the most of the sunshine Smile esp as DH worked yesterday

ChateauMargot · 07/05/2012 09:16

gwenniebee You're right, our experiences sound really similar. I've already made a note of two or three questions to ask next week if it look as though we're not going to get around to much practical, post-birth stuff (eg. safe sleep habits) - I don't mind getting lots of info about labour, but I'd feel a bit short-changed if by the end of a £255 course I still didn't know what to do with a newborn on the first couple of days!

So, do you just unroll the pastry, stick the marzipan on top, sandwich with more pastry and bake? That sounds too good...

McKayz · 07/05/2012 09:19

Kveta We have Fireman Sam on here. I have decided that he must be Norman's Dad.

My belly button is still in. It didn't pop out with the boys though so not expecting it this time either.

Feeling utterly fed up here. It is lovely and sunny but we can't go out because of DS1's chicken pox.

Kveta · 07/05/2012 09:27

We have watched an entire Peppa DVD already this morning, then some Postman bastarding Pat, and Bananas in Pyjamas. I NEED to get out of the house :o

DH has just surfaced, so think I am going to have a shower, then we can escape for a bit. DS needs a run around, he is far too exuberant for my liking, even with a mild cold. Why don't toddlers ever stop?!

thedogwalker · 07/05/2012 10:27

Yep it's a ceebeebies morning for me too. However it is raining here, but it is supposed to clear this afternoon. Hope so, as I want to go out for a nice walk with DS and the dog. Nothing else planned, just a chilling day.
Hope everyone has a good day xx

gwenniebee · 07/05/2012 11:34

chateau basically, yes! Puff pastry, roll out marzipan (not too thick), topped with more pastry and sealed round edges, 180 degrees for about 25 minutes. Yum!

Definitely go armed with questions to your next session - we kept assuming it would be covered later and it never was, but I'm sure if we'd asked we'd have got more information.

Small sounds like you had a rubbish night :( I can sympathise, although I slept quite well last night so can't complain.

My heartburn is awful though :( :( I can't understand how I can have it all the time! Surely the idea is that particular foods trigger it or something...?! With me it appears that merely existing is enough to set it off.

DH and I are both sitting at the table working with the view to "rewarding" ourselves with a trip to Ikea in Milton Keynes to buy curtain rails later. We sure know how to have a good time. We might even pop into Boots and get a changing mat, but I'm not sure how we'll handle the excitement..... in the meantime, I have marked all my science books up to date and am just about to start writing humanities reports for my little darlings. School is very scared that I'll go into premature labour without having written my end of year reports. (I'm quite scared that I won't, and therefore I really will have to write them.)

The discussions of ceebeebies etc got DH and I talking about "the good old days" of children's television so we have amused ourselves with a quick youtube of Pingu in between working, and I'm hoping for a rendition of the Magic Roundabout at some point between now and lunch! A short exposure to it has led us to decide that clearly In The Night Garden is designed to be watched while deeply under the influence of something, probably something illegal.......

gwenniebee · 07/05/2012 11:39

Me again - chateau - just opened my emails and found a response to my feedback on the NCT course evaluation. The lady who took ours says that "the whole emphasis of the course is being shifted towards post-natal life and care of the baby" which is interesting to know and may give you more confidence to ask your questions!

blondiedollface · 07/05/2012 12:49

Gwennie DH and I have the belief that In The Night Garden is intended for those under the influence of something too! The colours/sounds/themes just don't make sense in real life...

Smallwonder · 07/05/2012 13:23

Afternoon all,
How is everyone this bank holiday?
I finally got to sleep -- there were no night shifters online then, only me :) Finally dozed off after 4 and must've woken several times between then and 9.45am. My DC are away for a few days, it's wonderful :) I can catch up on so much that needs doing, finally! ffnorm Yes, but silly is an understatement. Plain crazy IMHO! :o

I think all DC get a dose of TV/DVD that is more than any parent would really want for their child/children when the circumstances aren't normal. I really don't think much harm will come from it :) When DC have been ill and we're trying to keep a temperature down, when I'm ill, when I'm PG, when you really need to be doing something that's important, when it's pouring down and you can't go anywhere, what's a mother alone meant to do....I try very hard, as I home educate to keep viewing to a minimal, at least just have an hour after lunch so I can nap, or for DS1 who won't and enjoys the quiet time without DS2 and 3 pestering him but I'm choosy now about what they watch. There are a few programs on both CITV and Cbeebies that they are not to watch but there are some things that I find they really benefit from such as Andy's World of Adventures, the 3 year old loves it! I like the Cat in the Hat DVDs, you can watch those online and DS1 and 2 enjoy a few Spiderman or Hulk episodes. Peppa Pig was loved by my dc but the music would come on and I got to the point where i couldn't bare it anymore and could hear 'i'm peppa pig' ringing in my ears all through the day Blush
As for the Night Garden, Waybaloo and there's another one that I can't think of, i noticed some strange behaviour in my dc (as they're always around me) on/after episodes (no joke) and so i stopped it. My DC1 aged 3 I think jumped up and down like a loony during one episode and went from edge of sofa, straight onto wooden shelf of bookcase with a prompt trip to A&E for his now scarred eyelid. I was sitting right opposite him, my friend next to him and I really don't know what got into him. DS3 showed similar at something recently. I'll not go into any conspiracy theories though :o Just my own personal views on things.

So if you haven't taken Vit D before, is it recommended to start now, this late?

Baby's bag is packed but haven't done mine yet. Anyone else heard swishing noises? I had lots of gurgling and swishing the other day but now bump has dropped just lots of violent movement. Whole limbs sticking out like alien life form it seems.
23 days until i go for my pre c-sec appointment with the anaesthetics team!!!!
Will go and get busy while everyone is away. x

Kveta · 07/05/2012 13:54

well, typically, we managed an hour outside, in the freezing cold, and it started pishing it down again. Stupid weather, our gas bills are going to be extortionate this year, the heating has been on pretty much constantly since October.

small yes, would be worth taking vit D now, it is good to replenish supplies in your body, unless you are often exposed to sunlight over winter!

we are not CBeebies fans really, most of the theme tunes make me murderous, but we did get DS into Pingu and Timmy Time (and Krtek, but that's a czech cartoon!) and then got DVDs of them. He now likes Peppa, which is also acceptable. Sadly, as he gets older, he is starting to have his own opinions on which shows he wants to watch, so we are suffering from occasional exposure to the 'banas' in pyjamas, and Bob the immensely tedious Builder. I'm looking forward to him being old enough for Horrible Histories though :o

baby is going a bit manic today, she's all over the place. DS keeps on headbutting my bump, which is not comfortable. And I seem to need to pee pretty much constantly. However, not long now. Just heard from a friend who had a wee boy last month, and had a truly horrific birth (blue lighted to hospital after a day in labour, then knocked out for EMCS as they couldn't detect baby's heartbeat), and she is still in shock, but absolutely in love with her DS (he is gorgeous!). So it makes me think my first birth wasn't so bad after all, and maybe I can get through it again this time. Still not looking forward to it!

36 week growth scan tomorrow, with a toddler in tow - woo hoo... and 11 full days left at work, as I'm taking thursday/friday off from now on, yay!

hope the weather clears for you TDW, and that you can get out at least into the garden McKayz! and enjoy Ikea Gwennie - I still love Bill Bailey describing Milton Keynes as 'satan's lay by' so every time DH or I hear the name of the town, we go 'ah, satan's lay by' much to the bemusement of everyone around us :o it's the simple things that keep us amused!!

CathFin · 07/05/2012 14:49

small I was awake, should have gone online but I was trying to get back to sleep. I had a day of hardly any baby moving so was worrying about that but went to the hosp this morning and it's all fine apart from currently being breech.

Funny - my belly button has popped this time but didn't for first 2 pregs!

Going to look for baby spinning now and see if I can shift bubba around by Thurs when I have my 34 week midwife app.

Raining here too. Think we might put a DVD on!

Smallwonder · 07/05/2012 15:22

Wow, Kveta, 36 week appt! Mine is 34 week appt but I'm having LO 2 weeks early which is why i'm now en par with you. LOL at 'pishing it down' -- typical 'my mum' kind of expression :)
You did the right thing Cathfin, I have a very busy mind, it doesn't quieten down even when I try so end up doing ridiculous things like watching videos and posting on forums when in actual fact am making myself worse! Glad all is well with LO, puts your mind at rest now.
Think i've just about bought anything that was on the list other than dressing gown and flip flops, that should be bag sorted by end of week, I hope!
Oh...the sun is making an appearance, finally!

See you all later. Going to bath in absolute peace today and relax.

DairyNips · 07/05/2012 17:18

For those of you who have been here since early on and remember Greengoose who was on our thread.. She has posted to say that her precious baby girl Merryn was born by ecc at 32 + 1 weeks, she was rushed Great Ormond Street for an operation. Merryn was then taken to NCIU where they tried to help her for 6 days but devastatingly they couldn't save herSad

Greengoose if you're lurking please know we are all thinking of you at this time.

McKayz · 07/05/2012 17:32

Greengoose thinking of you. Merryn is such a beautiful name. She will always be remembered as one of the June babies.
Much love to you xx

thedogwalker · 07/05/2012 17:35

My thoughts are with Greengoose and her family, such a sad loss.

Smallwonder · 07/05/2012 17:41

Greengoose Very much thinking of you and your family.
Merryn is such a beautiful and enchanting name, as McKayz said, much love to you Greengoose.
