TDW sooo pleased for you :) You must be walking on sunshine!

Kveta glad to hear all is ok with you.

Blondie eeee :) Hope it's not long for you now!

ffnorm I posted a rant a little while ago about MIL ringing at inconsiderate hours... and she wasn't even ringing to speak to me, it just wound me up that she rang then at all! So in now way at all do I think you can be considered a cow... maybe your sis needs a gentle reminder of the time difference?!

warlin glad you survived your horrid week. Not long to go now.

Dairy, McKayz and co..... after pains??! This is new news to me :( Is it another joy people keep secret until it's too late?!

Small sorry you are feeling down today. Sounds like your little ones can be very cute! I can't imagine how you guys with older children do it.. it's as much as I can do to keep DH and me on the straight and narrow at the moment.

DH and I went for a walk around the reservoir this morning - very nice although I need to pee the moment I walk more than about 200 yards!! Honestly - I thought I could be one of those people who carries on being sensibly active right up until d-day. I'm usually pretty sporty and it's been a big shock (not to mention quite depressing) that I just can't seem to do it! Anyway, DH has been busying himself in the garden this afternoon while I have done a bit more crochet to the baby's blanket, made a crumble and even wrapped my Goddaughter's birthday present. Ooh, and I wrote two good luck cards for my cousins who are doing GCSE's. Not much really, is it, but I feel like I've made some significant achievements!!

Going to make the supper now and then hopefully DH will remember that I'm not always lying on the sofa complaining! :)

McKayz · 20/05/2012 19:22

I've been having a bit of a panic. Ds2 is 3.5. What the bleeding Nora do I do with a baby? How do I do nappies and how do I dress them?? Girls are so different to boys!!

McKayz · 20/05/2012 19:23

Oh Gwen I didn't have after pains with DS1.

thedogwalker · 20/05/2012 19:35

Hi all,
Yes I've been on cloud 9 all day, God knows how I'll actually feel when DH walks through the front door next weekend.

After pains, I don't recall having any after DS1, so I don't think everyone gets them. I think I reall reading that it occurs when the uterus and other girlie bits are shrinking (not very medical I know), after the birth, but as I say I don't recall them, so they can't be that bad.

TeaandHobnobs · 20/05/2012 19:48

Gwennie as others have said, after pains are the uterus contracting back to its pre-pregnancy state. In the same way that oxytocin released during labour causes contractions, breastfeeding causes release of oxytocin so the uterus contracts - Wikipedia knows stuff (don't worry, it's not as bad as contractions in labour!)

They will probably feel like period cramps. Mine wore off after a couple of days and weren't too uncomfortable - however I was pumped full of sytocin (fake oxytocin) after labour (because they were worried about postpartum haemorrhage), and I couldn't attempt breastfeeding for several days, so my experience isn't really typical, I guess.

I hope I've got that explanation right Confused

Kveta · 20/05/2012 19:54

I had bad after pains with DS - kept going every time he fed until he was 5 months old Confused. the first couple of weeks were properly sore (so used paracetamol), then it was just twinging aches for the next few months. like mild period pains. Am not looking forward to them this time!!

CathFin · 20/05/2012 20:07

I didn't get after pains with DD but with DS - ouch! Not sure if it was because he was my second or what but they were a bit of a surprise. Havn't taken painkillers either time post birth but I would do if it was really bad.

rhibutterfly · 20/05/2012 20:25

great news TDW!!!!!

PinkPanther27 · 20/05/2012 20:32

Hello all, blondie very exciting, I would just reiterate what someone else said - get as much rest as you can. You'll need loads of energy for labour, it completely wore me out and mine was only a few hours!
Dogwalker v pleased that your husband is home next weekend, bet you cant wait. Hope you manage to get some quality time together before the big day.
Warlin hope you have a better week this week at work. I wouldnt want that task pregnant or not!
McKayz I seem to have forgotten stuff too. Went to see my friend's 6 week old baby and was holding her and she started crying. My friend said she prob needed winding and I was ok, then said "I've forgotten how to do it!" She had to remind me how to hold her to do it!
In laws were here this weekend and it sounds like we're v lucky as they are v helpful (they prob drank at least 3 cups of tea but they made most of them and helped us declutter and do some jobs in preparation for the baby. Unfortunately they live 150 miles away so can't come down too often. My parents are 10 miles away and dont visit although they will drive me to the hospital and will prob pop round for an hour to see the new baby. My Dad (parents separated) lives aout 50 miles away and hasnt even mentioned the fact that Im pregnant so doubt I'll see him.
Is anyone else suffering with v v bad backache? I know lots of labours start this way (my previous one did) but its not a labour backache more a constant unbearable pain particularly when Im leaning back on the sofa so I ahve to try to sit upright as much as possible to relieve it

SpecialJK · 20/05/2012 20:56

Yay tdw !!! So glad he's on his way back. I remember that feeling well. Thanks for asking, still here, LO still hasn't turned. Got chiropractor tomorrow and still doing some breech tilts.

Had a busy weekend. Went to hospital ante-natal yesterday which I found useful and had lunch with brother and his partner today. He was quite taken aback as he hadn't seen me since christmas!

Now knackered and heading off for a bath.

blondie how exciting- must be any day surely!! Smile

blondiedollface · 20/05/2012 22:01

TDW So happy that your DH is on his way back to you :)

Tea BabyT is gorgeous and his weight gain is amazing, hope you're super proud of yourself lovely lady!

Thanks all, am feeling super positive, had a lovely day with my super Mummy and she brought a bottle of Clarysage with her!! She said she had her show about 48 hours before I was born so who knows... Everything is ready and DH is off work until the 28th, so LO might come before Daddy starts his new job Grin

No sign as yet, but I'll keep you all updated as much as I can!

DairyNips · 21/05/2012 00:29

Just been to see Michael McIntyre with dh, was great, haven't been out for yonks and it was super funnyGrin

Great news TdwSmile

Gwennie don't worry about after pains. I never noticed them with ds1. With ds2 they were kinda like period cramps it not as bad as labour and went away with paracetamolSmile

AmethystMoon · 21/05/2012 06:33

Great news tdw Smile

blondie glad you feel so positive, I keep thinking I will be too excited to rest when my labour starts! But i know how important everyone says it is, so sending you lots of chilled positive vibes. Keep us updated Smile

kveta not sure I like the sound of after pains. One of my friends had them particularly bad, said they were worse than labour Shock

It seems like it was quiet on here last night. Hope that means everyone got some sleep. Right work beckons, just 2 weeks to go now, this week promises to be very tiring but next week should be less so - fingers crossed.

Have a good day everyone x

AmethystMoon · 21/05/2012 06:34

Forgot to say that i am very jealous of your evening seeing Michael McIntyre dairy, sounds like you had a great time Grin

CathFin · 21/05/2012 06:54

TDW - great news, sounds like good timing!

Blondie - hope its not too long now!

Phew - had a much better night, DS didn't cough which helped, and the baby was a lot quieter so I was a lot more comfortable!

McKayz · 21/05/2012 07:19

Dairy I'm very jealous!!

I can't believe DS2 is asleep. He hardly ever sleeps past 6 and of course on the weekend he was up. But now when we have to get up he's asleep. It's not fair.

Hope you're all well and ok.

DairyNips · 21/05/2012 08:39

Morning ladiesGrin

Yep, I did a lot of laughing last night. We'll ignore the fact that a tiny bit of wee slipped out at one pointBlush good job I was wearing my panty linerGrin

The boys were in bed before we went but they did the 'I'm hungry' trick on our baby sitters (dh's best friend and partner) so got some extra play time downstairs and watched ghostbuster for a while. Little monkeysGrin

Slept ok here and boys been playing away in their room whilst I dozed this morning. They're surprisingly quite (which isn't always a good thing!) better get up..

Warlin · 21/05/2012 09:45

Morning all

Yay TDW that's fab Grin. sounds like he'll be home for the birth after all....you must be so excited!!

blondie omg, sounds like birth is imminent Grin. can't wait to see the post where baby blondie has arrived :) How exciting. I'm jealous...sort of....those pains sound rough :)

small sorry to hear your hormones are up the left...mine are too and I seem to go from super happy to massively grumpy in an instant!

Thanks guys for ruining my morning with the after pains talk.....Grin. As a first timer I am blissfully unaware and am in denial that once the birth is over there will be any more pain...just a gorgeous little baby who will sleep all day and night Grin. You mean I am going to have to endure the birth (of which I'm terrified) and then potentially months of pains afterwards......arrgggghhhh

Last week in work this week...yiippppeeee. I'm so ready to finish so just want these last 5 days done.

We were at MILs for lunch yesterday and she'd bought us some baby clothes...she is superstitious about buying before the birth so was really pleased she has now decided that it's safe to assume he's coming :) Sh'd also baked us fish and chicken pies to freeze for when LO's born....very sweet of her.

What a fantastic morning....the sun is shining, had a gorgeous beach walk first thing.....am hoping that the weather is changing and we will all get the long hot summer we are hoping for :)

Waves to everyone x

Kveta · 21/05/2012 09:52

hi all,

so I have decided, after a LONG weekend, that today is my last day in the office. So maternity leave starts tomorrow, woohoo! Keep on nearly passing out if I stand up for too long, and the drive this morning went on forever, so I thought 'fuck it', spoke to my boss today and he agreed that there's no point in staying any longer! 2 weeks tomorrow until she's due anyway!

don't worry too much about after pains folks - not everyone gets them, obviously, and they are manageable with paracetamol. I thought labour was far worse, but did get after pains for a long time - they were more niggly than excruciating after the first week or two. And DS was more than worth it :)

right, will be online less from tomorrow, but hopefully will have more time to post - need to finish up today and send about a billion emails to collaborators, so please bellow at me if you see me here!

thedogwalker · 21/05/2012 10:18

Hi all
Special hope the chiropractor helps the LO turn.
Kveta Enjoy your last day in the office and welcome to the world of maternity leave. I've been off work now since 13 April and I could not have coped if I had still being going to work.
Warlin can you send some of your sunshine my way, forecast has it at 21 degrees for me today, can't see that happening.
Blondie, come on girl, how are you today? Hope things are a moving Smile
I've got a stomping headache today, all sinus / cold related, hope everyone feels better than me.
Take care xx

DairyNips · 21/05/2012 10:26

Kveta Sounds like a good plan to go on mat leave now. You deserve it! I've been on may leave since the end of March!Smile

tdw Hope your headache clears soon.

McKayz · 21/05/2012 10:41

Kveta definitely a good idea to go on Mat Leave. I know I couldn't have worked for the past few weeks.

The pram is coming today!!! I can't wait to get it all unpacked and worked out.

I've got pretty strong BHs today, I am just going to ignore them though. Usually I'd try and have a bath but I can't.

SpecialJK · 21/05/2012 11:23

please all send me some 'turning' vibes today Grin got chiropractor today. thinking it might take a few visits though, then acupunture on wednesday. May as well try some handstands in the swimming pool sometime this week too.....

sometimes I feel like LO is going transverse, so it's like he gets halfway there and changes his mind. I'm hoping if I can create a bit of extra space it might give him that little bit of incentive Smile

kveta good for you stopping work. I've pretty much had enough too. Working from home now apart from one last day in the office tomorrow. Keeping my head down and just keeping my inbox clear is the name of the game for the next two weeks. Hope no one is looking for me anyway, as I'll be out at all the turning baby appointments anyway!

justwantcheese · 21/05/2012 11:41

Yay tdw, how's everyone today? Sorry my brain is mush and I can only remember snippets of peoples posts. Love the description of the mucous plug- very accurate,I had my daughter 8 hours after mine went. How exciting for you, won't be long now.
Glad to here k that you are on maternity leave , you sound like you are really ready for it.hope you manage to get some rest.
Can remember a little of after pains but def had more pain with the stitches- think I'm still traumatised by them 9 years later.
Still getting a lot of movement and backache, feels like an achievement just walking to the biscuit tin.
Water started coming through my kitchen roof last night from the toilet, got really stressed thinking about the cost calling out plumber on a Sunday thinking I haven't budgeted for you! Thought it was going to be about 200 pounds but he only charged me 30. Phew very relieved.
Well have a lovely Monday everyone, take it easy. Can't wait to see who will be next x

Warlin · 21/05/2012 11:57

justwantcheese glad you got the leak sorted cheapily..it's sods law when these things happen at the worst possible time.

kveta so so Envy. I have handover meetings all week so can't even having a sneeky day from home. Most of you seem to be on mat leave already so I can't wait to join you next week....for all those still working (if I'm not the only one!) we are nearly there!! oh, the thought of 9 months off......bliss!!

TDW sending sunshine vibes your way.....think this week's to be good all week...fingers crossed for the arrival of summer!
