Morning all

Sorry haven't been able to post for the past few days but am having a terrible time in work. I have to sack woman that I took on to ocver part of my role and it's such a long process. I have to do the deed this afternoon and escort off the premises etc....I feel really bad as she is a single mum and will be very stressed but I have to do it as she's not up to the job....pregnancy hormones are def making it more difficult and I'm totally dreading it....just want to get finished up at work but my diary is full for the next week and it's stressing me out. Sorry for the whinge :(

mckayz sounds like you're having a rough time, hope you're ok.

star welcome back...sounds like you have a lot on your plate. Hope you can take it easy for a couple of weeks at least.

small wow you're date is getting close. I will be induced 4 weeks today if nothing has happened before then so at least I can sort of plan too.

On the plus side I had scan last night and LO is 6lbs 14 (up from 4lbs 11 in 3 weeks!) That's just a little above average but I was surprised as it seems really big. Consultant was a bit surprised I was still working. He said that the baby is really low and facing the right direction but not yet engaged which I'm disappointed with! I thought I had felt it engage!! Anyway was lovely as we got a 4d scan of his little face and he has DH's nose and mouth!!

DH left this morning on a golfing trip so I'm hoping nothing happens before he gets back tmw night.

I'm hoping once I get today over I can start to wind down a little in work (though that may be wishful thinking!). I just feel totally shattered, emotional and in need of a rest!

Waves to everyone I haven't mentioned x

Smallwonder · 17/05/2012 12:38

Morning all -- loving the updates today and sizes of these little ones, wow!!! :) it's amazing. Then wonder why we're tired!
I nodded off at 1:30am only to wake at 3:10 vomiting and with backache, I don't think there will be any more turning now just very sore kicks. Got that feeling that it doesn't have the room it did but may well be proven wrong. Final mw appt next week then week after meeting the anaesthetist team, have booked afternoon just for me next weekend for hair, nails etc and am just soooooo very looking fwd to meeting LO now minus stress of what's going to happen when I get home. Eeeeeek.

panther don't feel bad, I have 3 dc at home with me daily and I haven't been doing ANYthing outdoors for an absolute age, cabin fever doesn't come close! My lot are currently in the garden -- he will be fine, he's still young. I apologised to my 6 year old for not being able to complete his bird feeder, felt awful as just can't take them all out alone and he said it was fine because new baby wants to
Come too :) they are very understanding children -- I'm grateful. Hope scan is good. Let us know.
warlin that sucks!!! Like you need that -- chin up, soon it'll be a distant memory.
dairy sounds relaxing -- that is necessary! I'm holding out till 1 while they're playing outside then it's upstairs for a DVD while younger ones and I rest, yay!
ffnorm no words of wisdom other than I truly hope u get the birth u want :) fingers crossed
hello to everyone else gwennie I'm the black sheep of th HE group. I do not follow a curriculum, have timetables and lesson plans (I do for reference with the latter) and am an advocate of child led learning. Ds1 does 40-60mins of reading and numeracy daily has been through mathletics and reading eggs for a few months, a little of the Ladybird series and that's it on a kind of formal level. He is currently designing a restaurant, learned how to measure, shapes, spell items on menu, estimation, discover new foods and where they come from (I love the food and farming lesson plans we covered this earlier in year so is great revision) we've talked about different customs, what foods we might offer different people etc so covering different religions, diets, health issues all in one theme. He has drawn the kitchen staff, discussed their roles, and the list goes on and on. DS2 doing solar system and arctic animals autonomous.
Will stop there before I bore the pants of the thread! I love it and recently have taken more of a back set but can still talk about it all from my comfy chair :) just no good at making camps/going out anymore.

Mega post!!!!!!! Blush

Warlin · 17/05/2012 13:00

Wow, small very impressed by all that you are teaching LOs! I think I'd lose motivation if that were me...hat off to you though, you either must be very patient or have well behaved children :)

Scary how close your c section is getting. I've got backache too....I'm the same though, just dying to meet LO. Will be lovely to have an afternoon to yourself. I considered booking in for a good waxing before the big day but am worried about the growth period in case he comes early!!! Don't want to apepar on the labour ward with leg hair long enough to platt Grin

McKayz · 17/05/2012 13:14

I've just almost had an embarrassing moment in the supermarket. I picked DS2 up from playschool and he asked for a sausage roll so we went in the bakers. I got a huge craving for scones and cream so grabbed some cherry scones. I got to the supermarket and they have stopped selling clotted cream. I very very nearly burst into tears Blush

I used to work there and so know 99% of the staff. In the words of one of my past customers "bloody co-op, bring back Safeway"Grin

I am so tempted to complain. They've stopped selling loads of stuff recently and my friends are fed up of people moaning at them for not having something.

rhibutterfly · 17/05/2012 14:08

hi all, been a busy bee these last few days, came home from bristol monday ordered pram it arrived wednesday, put together and now in sisters house awaiting arrival, got all the babies clothes washed and ironed, just got to pack hospital bags now.
warlin that sounds awful, hope it goes as painless as possible xx
mckayz i cry all the time, mostly joining in with DD1 if she's upset.
to all those suffering with SPD and not able to do much with DC's snap nearly broke my heart a while back when DD1 said to my mum "mummy doesn't take me lots of places anymore" trying to make it up to her by playing together as much as possible.

Kveta · 17/05/2012 16:45

hi all

1st day off today with just me and DS. he was up at 4, and as I hadn't managed to fall asleep by then, it has been a LONG day!! haven't done any of the planned activities, such as make salt dough, go for a walk, or do some baking, but we had a 3 hour nap (well, dose in my case, but I read a book!) this afternoon! thinking baby may have dropped, as I keep having bad cramps and shooting pains in the cervical region - ouch! she has been very active today too.

i am reading the thread, but no brain to respond i'm afraid - one of those days.

hope everyone gets some rest tonight. may write more later when no toddler surgically attached to my arm!!

ffnorm · 17/05/2012 16:57

McK I would have been the same - love scones and cream have never been able to figure out why I'm not skinny

Hang in there Kveta the early waking DS's are trying to kill us Grin

Thanks Small for the kind thoughts!

It's not long now,Rhi then your DD will have her little sister to fascinate her and your SPD will dissapear x

FluffyMitchell · 17/05/2012 17:00

Hi everyone, I haven't posted on here for ages as I was busy moving house and other things. Really sorry for anyone feeling rubbish but am kind of relieved to read about other people feeling as crap as me. I am struggling with insomnia, hot swollen feet and now the carpal tunnel syndrome i had in my last pregnancy is back. It's bloomin' sore but I find that wearing splints at night helps (they are so attractive, like flesh coloured gloves!).
Would love if mat leave started sooner - am due to keep going until the end of May and I have to remind myself to take it one day at a time.
Anyway, am happy now to be settled in our new house and once I stop obsessing about curtains, pictures and flatpack furniture I really need to get on with baby preparations. The pram is still not unpacked for the box, the Moses basket is in bits and I have no new clothes for the baby! Don't really want to make do with DS's newborn stuff (especially if the scan is correct and it IS a girl). Need to get a move on just in case she\he arrives early. Anyway, have added myself to the list.
Keep well everyone xx

Hi all
warlin, what an awful task for you to have to do at work, hope it didn't upset you too much. Did it have to be you to sack her, couldn't someone else have done it?
McKayz, Bloomin hormones Hmm, I can cry at absolutley nothing just a lately, hope the urge has subsided.
Fluffy welcome back, glad your move has gone well, hope you find the time to get everything sorted and some time off work soon.
Special how did the consultation go?
Not done much today, got a chesty cough so feeling a bit rough. TMI alert, I have started getting sharp pains, like being stabbed with needles in the nether regions. I recall getting them last time, but cannot recall when. Is it my cervix softening or just random pains?
Hope everyone is well, take care

Fanbelt · 17/05/2012 19:35

Hi all, I've been reading through the last few pages of posts but feel so tired just can't hold anything in my brain. Slept for 3 hours this afternoon (after crappy night's sleep last night) and now I'm tired AGAIN! Really feels like that first trimester exhaustion.

For those trying to get physio appts for SPD, I got the phone number of my physio's secretary and have been told to keep trying her for a cancellation if I need extra appointments. I've already had one where she manipulated my pelvis but I have to say it didn't do a huge amount - i was very sore for 24 hrs and then it just went back to how it was. I'm fairly resigned to the fact that I'm going to be in pain/walking on crutches etc. until after LO's born but everyone I know has assured me after that it will ease off after a couple of weeks.

Re pushchairs - can't remember who mentioned the graco travel system but we had one for DS1 & 2 and i ended up hating it. Looked really dated very quickly, was heavy and awkward to use. But couldn't justify buying a new one. This time round I've bought a 2nd hand Quinny Buzz which I love, and haven't even started using it yet. They're pretty pricey new (£500?) but I got this one for £130 and then I bought the maxi-cosy car seat and base for an extra £50 (from a friend, I know you're not meant to buy 2nd hand car seats...).

Uh-oh - DS2 has just come downstairs and told me "he's got a big poo in his pants" - better go and sort him out... Confused

McKayz · 17/05/2012 19:37

Warlin I hope today went as well as possible.

TDW the urge has gone. I did have a scone with butter but it's not the same at all. I've been getting similar pains too. Especially when walking.

I've had 5 people say today that I must be having twins and another person on Facebook just now. I'm getting really pissed off with it. I guess it's hormones but grrrr!!!

gwenniebee · 17/05/2012 20:11

Hello everyone...

Golly it's been a busy day on here! Have read all posts and am relieved to see I am not the only one with no brain to hold all the information..........

Bad luck to all who didn't sleep well... that's the last time I spread happy sleeping dust around the board, it obviously does more harm than good!

Warlin oh dear, that sounds really horrible for you :( Particularly at it sounds like you were torn between knowing she was no good at the job but sympathising with her personal situation. I hope it went ok and at least it's done now.

Small hats off to you! It sounds lovely, actually, and I would love to be able to do more child led learning in my classroom.... constraints of time, space, facilities etc mean it's difficult :(

McKayz No clotted cream?! I am practically crying on your behalf!! I am also very much with you on the "it must be twins" annoyance. Why do people feel the need to comment? And why do they think that particular line is funny? Grr.....

Lots of interviews at work today for teaching positions in my year group next year - one is my mat leave and the other is a permanent position. It caused absolute mayhem as SMT had dismally failed to organise themselves in a way that meant the children would be in the right places at the right time. It was farcical. Like most things there!

Came home and tried to listen to my natal hypnotherapy CD but fell asleep! Oops!

DH, through no fault of his own but through the stupid bureaucracy of the university where he works, has just found out that the earliest he can possibly interview for a post-doc job working with him that they've finally advertised is 25th June. I'm due on 29th. We (he!) has spent since the beginning of March trying to chivvy this along with everyone fully aware that interviewing really had to be complete before there was any chance of him being on paternity leave. Pissed off doesn't even begin to describe us.... (ceeej what's your PhD in?! I know of a good post-doc going!)

Oh my goodness... have just turned on the bbc wildlife live thing and found terrifying baby elephant in rivers footage....... :( :( This is not good for my hormones!!

thedogwalker · 17/05/2012 20:40

Gwennie I was crying watching the baby elephants, so glad when they all managed to get to the other side. Then I cried tears of relief Hmm. Defo the hormones playing up.

CathFin · 17/05/2012 21:36

Glad its not just me who can't remember anything!
Warlin - that's a bit crap getting you to sack someone - not fair. Hope it was okay.

Forgot to say that at my spa thing they put a mask of some sort on my tummy - weird! Stretch marks currently okay but have 5 weeks for them still to explode!

Night all!

surfmama · 17/05/2012 22:07

evening fellow baby carriers. am joining in with aches in the down belows. ouchy and worse at night or after I have been sitting. mw today said 3/5 pallatable not sure what that means. very obedient baby, i had heard that it is best if baby is lying on left side, mine was right a few weeks ago, so we had a chat and I twiddled my toes and now baby is on the left... well for now anyway and mw said it didn't matter in the slightest which side!
gwen i did the same, nodded off somewhere around... no idea... but nodded off all the same...mmmm it was nice.
amethyst am doing okay thank so much for asking. I don't think it was waters really, and my normal mw said she wouldn't have sent me for scan as she knows the feel of my baby, but anyway I guess it's better to be reassured.

maybe we could have a meet up at the seaside once we have small people? everyone is welcome, I live 5 min walk from east witt beach and 20 min from west.
100fire was it you who had low fluid - sorry if not - did you get it monitored?

Hope all who are feeling sicky and poorly get very well soon. I am feeling okay but knackered my cat has taken to sitting by the side of me at 3am and getting far to close and doing a really loud purr for ages and I can't get rid of him, think I will have to shut him out but he is so sweet!

sweet dreams all

SpecialJK · 18/05/2012 06:16

surfmama you think you could have a chat with my LO??

Thanks for asking tdw scan showed baby is still breech! Midwife got it wrong last two times then as kicking always been in same place. Annoying thing is all fibroids and placenta issues have now gone. Only thing that will make me have c-s is this breech.!!! So, booked in for some moxibustion on Monday, started the breech tilt and will consider also chiropractor too. Then if LO doesn't turn least I can say I tried. They won't try ECV I don't think.

Just read all the previous posts, hope everyone is well. Too tired to write more - but not tired enough to sleep it seems. Going to slip the eye mask on see if that helps. Night/morning all xx

rachyroodle · 18/05/2012 06:18

Just been trying to catch up with all the messages. Sounds like all our babies are getting lovely and big now! No scan for me since 20 weeks so I have no idea but I know my bump is measuring very big!

Warlin sorry to hear about your hard week at work. Not long now and we will all be off. I have had a day off sick this week with a chest infection and am supposed to last until a week on Tuesday. I think I will have to ask for some extra days off to get me through!

Small really impressed with the home schooling. Sounds lots of fun but maybe also very hard work! Also - very excited for your jubilee baby. Wish I knew the date mine will come.

Emblosion tried perineal massage for the first time yesterday! Very odd but didn't want to have lots of stitches in hospital and think if I had done it, Things might have been different. At least I will know that I tried when I end up thoroughly stitched up!

A lady at work who is due the week before me gave birth on Tuesday so everything is starting to seem a bit real now. I think some of the June babies willbe with us any time now!

CathFin · 18/05/2012 07:47

Morning! Moderately good nights sleep here, one wee and rennies wake up but then DS was up at 5am which was a bit annoying!

Does anyone think it is unreasonable for me to put the following in my birth plan? When I asked my mw team here they said someone should have stayed with me last time...
'I would like a midwife to stay with me once I am in established labour, I find being left on my own in labour very stressful and feel much more relaxed with a midwife and my husband on hand.'

rhibutterfly · 18/05/2012 11:04

cath sounds reasonable enough to me,i gave birth to DD1 while midwife was making tea.
been to see registrar this morning and the little pest has turned to breech position so i have 2 weeks to encourage her to turn or the registrar will try and if that don't work i have to have CS :(
ha ha couldn't possibly reach my perineum if i tried.

Morning all, I too had a good sleep last night, 2 wees but far apart (!) And have only just properly woken up! Think I wore myself out yesterday as I went to Ikea to get a changing table, of course ended up buying multiple other items as well.

warlin how was yesterday? Hope it went as well as it could have done. Sounds v stressful for you.

rachy you are brave for trying the perineal massage, I am inspired to go and buy some oil today and see if I can reach (dont think I can bear to ask my DH to help if not in case it traumatises him).

Cath I think its ok to put that in your birth plan so the staff are aware. Also, might be worth looking out for any 3rd year student midwives, they pick women to 'follow' (with consent of course) as part of their training and would come to remaining antenatal appointments and be on call for the birth. Not a replacement for the trained midwife of course but it could be an extra support for you in labour? I know this wouldn't be for everyone but thought it might be worth mentioning.

A girl I know who happens to be on placement in my area is doing this for me and I felt better knowing a friendly/familiar face will be there and be just 'for me', not called off for emergencies etc.

Phew, that was a mammoth post! Am off for breakfast

DairyNips · 18/05/2012 11:13

Cath I would put that on my birth plan if I was convinced the mw's would actually stick to it. When I had ds1 I was alone with dh for 90% of my labour. Ds was back to back, I am convinced the gas n air wasn't working properly/ switched on. The me kept popping in for 30 secs at a time as she was trying to watch another lady who was closer to giving birth (obviously jot her fault, must have been short staffed). When I finally got her one on one attention it was to wheel me straight through to deliver as I was about to give birth any minute. In hindsight it would have been nice to have more support during my first labour. I doesn't most of it worrying that they were gonna come and put me on the drip a y minute ( I was induced but only needed the pessary then I went in to labour myself). I had no idea what was going on or what was coming next and l I could think was that if it hurt that bad how bad was it gonna get once on the drip. I didn't need the drip but didn't know the procedure having never laboured before. I was actually in that much pain because I was 7-8 cm dialated. By the time she wheeled me through to deliver I stood up, my waters went then I was fully dialated and ready to push.

Gosh I've babbled on there Blush I would say its a good idea to request that as even if you don't get a midwife there 100% of the time they'll still try and stick to it with it being in your birth plan.

My second labour was very different, still induced but had at least one midwife there most of the time and was kept well informed of what was happeningSmile

emblosion · 18/05/2012 11:15

Forgot to say, 'my' student will be there basically as an extra birth partner but one who is a nearly-qualified midwife. Doesn't replace midwife but is extra pair of hands for her I guess!

thedogwalker · 18/05/2012 15:01

Hello all
Special and Rhi hope you can turn your LOs, there is still time, I've got my fingers x for you Smile
Cath I think that seems perfectly ok what you want to put in your birth plan. At least they are left in doubt what your wishes are if it is in there. I put everything in mine and then there can be no confusion. Hope they stick to it.

Homemade chocolate chip and raisin cookies are just fresh out of the oven, so I'm handing them out with a Brew for all those in need of a pick me up Smile. I need them as I've now got a terrible chesty cough and it's making the top of my bump hurt everytime I cough.
take care all xx

CathFin · 18/05/2012 15:19

Hmm - I think I was just really lucky with my first labour as at no point was I left and I was there from about 1pm ish until I gave birth at about 6pm. Maybe it was also because I was in a birthing pool?

Will ask for that option again although there is only one pool at the hosp I'm going to.
