Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
AmethystMoon · 16/05/2012 11:27

Glad you are feeling a little better now mckayz. I was given a long wait for a appointment so I called them a few days later and basically got very stroppy and told them it was urgent, I was heavily pregnant and in severe pain. Magically they got me one the following week! To top it all off when I got there my physio (who was lovely) had no idea I was pregnant until she saw me! They don't seem to keep any record of whether it is antenatal or not, so I am glad I phoned to tell them Hmm

Smallwonder · 16/05/2012 11:46

Mckayz Hopefully the crutches will provide the support that you need right now, I know it's not practical, I was on them from around week 30 with DS3 really couldn't go anywhere with the DC or do much at all but you will have to take it easy whether you want to or not, that's got to be a good thing maybe you can get a taxi booked for taking DS to nursery/school? There's another two weeks I guess.
I've known my c-section date for months now and I've got between 2 and 3 weeks to go (I'm keeping it a secret but for us, it's very much going to happen around the Jubilee holiday) and it has made my life soooooo easy. I've already been let down with the childcare so was able to rearrange only because I had a date, otherwise, we'd have had a real ordeal on our hands.
I also hate needles, surprisingly though, am so dying to meet baby and get back to normal I seem to manage all the section stuff!
Amethyst I went to my GP who called the physio immediately and got me an appt shortly after, they had no idea! I agree, definitely worth following up as we often get lost on the system.
Fanbelt Really not long to go, a matter of weeks! :) Well, I am actually counting in days now.
Kveta do laugh when I see things like 'pishing' down on your posts :o Brings back all the family banter and things like "It's a braw bricht moonlicht nicht. Aye" Love it.

Extremely tired, fortunately all DC are sat round the table with me doing their work stuff. Lovely. Now how long till naptime......

StarshitTerrorise · 16/05/2012 12:19

Hi Everyone,

I started the very first thread as StarlightMcKenzie but have had quite a bit to deal with during this pregnancy so haven't been able to post very much here.

Hope you are all doing okay and ready for the impending births (I'll have a look and see if any have happened yet).

I've got a daft thing going on atm with trying to get a homebirth but will get to the bottom of it no doubt.

Back to back baby large for dates and no hospital etc.....

Lovely to hear from you again Star I certainly remember you from way back. Hope all ok with you...
Question re hospital bag - sorry can't remember who asked - don't forget a bath towel for yourself and baby nappies. I forgot both with DD despite bag having been packed for weeks before! MW looked at my DH with much disdain when he said 'Nappy?'. Plus when I tried to get a shower asked to borrow a towel and was given the most miserable, thin well washed item that could just about be described as a towel!

I'm 37 weeks on Friday - still planning VBAC but so worried about it - parents are an hour away and not the fastest drivers. Worried about DD arrangements - we don't have any family close by and dont really have anyone local to ask... Maybe planned cs better? I don't know. Am due on 9th but am booked in to see consultant again on 6th - decision then about what to do.... So in 3.5 weeks should be holding a baby!

Anyway adding myself to list:

Washed down pram from DD1 - hate it (Graco Travel system) - do not purchase one - don't know why we did as its ugly, heavy - I could go on. Would love to buy a shiny new Icandy or similar but funds limited.... Anyone else splashed out if onto DD2 or are you making do?

emblosion · 16/05/2012 16:09

Thanks novmama (twas me that asked re hospital bag) I've got a towel in there now!

Mckayz glad the sickness has eased off a bit, hope it continues.

Welcome back star I remember you too. :) My baby is also measuring big which is worrying me a bit, the junior doctor that scanned me on Sat said "wow that's a big head for 34 weeks" Shock am trying not to think about pushing out giant baby!

SpecialJK · 16/05/2012 16:55

I'm back after my afternoon nap.

To all the ladies with SPD, physio, crutches issues, my hats off to you. A bit of heartburn is nothing compared to that. I've been lucky with some very minor pelvic pain, but I had physio for my pelvis last year, ironically when I wasn't pregnant so I know how painful it can be, never mind with a bowling ball attached to the front

Got my next scan and consultant appnt tomorrow with the consultant I can't stand. However, I'm convinced that a) the baby isn't breech and b) now armed with lots of info from my private gynae who has my case history. So she's going to have to make a very convincing argument for c-s. Even then, I'm going to tell her I want it scheduled for a day she's not working..... Hmm that could be

Wish me luck! Smile

DairyNips · 16/05/2012 18:52

Hey star I certainly remember you! Sorry you've been having a difficult time. Lovely to hear from youSmile

I had to walk the nursery run today as the car was in the garage. It's a really short walk but I've been driving it as if I do just a little exercise my sciatica plays up. Anyway, I've had to slump on the sofa now as its shooting pains down my legHmm

Whoever was saying about hating their current pram.. We got a 2nd hand double buggy that we used short term when ds2 came along then we sold it again. We are keeping our Quinny Buzz which we used with both ds's as its great although not sure how much use I'll get of it as ds2 isn't fully walking everywhere yet. My sil has offered us her double maclaren to use for nursery runs if we need. We've got a single (2nd hand) maclaren I use for
Ds 2 on the nursery run at the moment. I'm thinking when baby is born I'll either have him in sling and ds2 in maclaren or ds3 in Quinny pram and ds 2 walking. Once baby older I might then switch to the double maclaren or Quinny with pushchair seat and ds2 walkingConfused Jeez, too many options! I'm really not sure what will be best till I experience it but one thing is for sure, I can't wait to start selling all the baby stuff once we don't need it.

Anyway, that didn't really answer your question did it? What I was trying to say was, if you're unhappy with your current buggy maybe check what you can get for it on eBay and sell it to buy another 2nd had one you might prefer.. With prams etc it works out a lot cheaper and you just need a new mattress then..

McKayz · 16/05/2012 19:38

I do feel better now. Would be feeling even more better if the little madam would remove her bum or whatever body part it is from my ribs. It makes breathing a little difficult.

Hello Star just ignore that GP, he knows nothing!! Grin

I can't wait to get my pram. We ordered it at the end of March and after we ordered it they told us it was out of stock. Apparently it'll be another 1-2 weeks but 3 weeks ago it was 2 weeks.

Smallwonder · 16/05/2012 21:54

Starlight - Good to hear from you, I had asked after you previously, probably around January but you were going through a lot and didn't pursue my usual pestering of lovely ladies gone awol :o Keep us posted on your news, I hope it works out with minimal stress...
Hello to Novmama, Special K and all posting since my last post.

I don't have a pram yet but I am about to bid on something that was not a choice but looks great and is within budget, plus is only a two minute drive away to collect and from very good home. It's the Britax Detour 3 or something, comes with carseat, carrycot and all the bits, is a three wheeler, and for the great condition and all included thought 150 was great. We spent hundreds on travel systems with the others. Any experience of this one gals?

Sending everyone happy sleep vibes...including myself! x

StarlightMcKenzie · 16/05/2012 21:59

Thanks for the re-welcome.

Healthcare is a bit nuts but I expect to get it sorted soon. (trying to get a homebirth from people who don't yet know I exist). Just moved County.

We have a forthcoming tribunal but that has now been postponed for a bit.

DB is getting married 4 weeks after my due date, in a field, an he has per-booked me a wigwam with a fire for accommodation Hmm Grin

I have no buggy, no cot, no whatever else I might need because I have been so focused on other stuff.

It's a very strange period of my life for sure!

gwenniebee · 16/05/2012 22:14

Hello all... just popping in to say good evening! Having my weekly guilty pleasure of The Apprentice Blush

small can't decide if I think you are brilliant or mad for home educating! I have to think I would not be very good at it... which is a bit worrying given I am paid to educate other people's kids Confused. What projects are you doing with your little ones? I'm not very thrilled by the humanities curriculum at school this term which isn't helping my general enthusiasm....

Don't envy all of you making pram decisions for second or more children! We had enough trouble choosing for one! We actually went to an independent outlet and when they asked what we were looking for, we said "Something, anything, to take a baby places in." I think we have been successful with that... better go and collect it soon, actually.

Hope everyone sleeps well.... [spreads sleepy weefree heartburnfree spdfree bhfree dust around] :)

StarlightMcKenzie · 16/05/2012 22:16

Oh and my good news is that I go my heartburn drugs and can now actually eat for the first time in 8 months!!!!!

thedogwalker · 16/05/2012 22:38

Hi all
Welcome back Star, hope you get the homebirth that you are wanting.
McKayz Sorry that you're not feeling too good, hope you can rest up lots and ease the pain. Sending you lots of happy vibes Smile
emblosion, my MW gave me a list of things for my hospital bag that my hospital would expect me to take with me. I have to provide, nappies, cotton wool, infact everything, Salisbury hospital provide the bed Hmm and that's about it.
Special hope your appointment with the consultant goes well tomorrow and that you get what you want, keep us all posted.
Hi to everyone else, sorry I can't remember every post.
A friend from work gave birth to DC2, last week, at Salisbury hospital, which is where I'm going to have DS. There were no complications and within 2 hours of giving birth, they were already sorting out her discharge paperwork and getting her to sign it. She lives over 30 minutes from the hospital and she was home, changed, and baby settled in less than 4 hours after the birth. Very quick, so me thinks, yes I'm going to pack some stuff in my hospital bag but I'm not going to go overboard as I too hope to be home in record time.
Hope everyone is well, take care and sending out lots of sleep vibes for those of you in need xx

emblosion · 17/05/2012 00:13

Hmmm maybe I'll stick some cotton wool in bag then just in case TDW, wow home 4 hours after the birth is quick isn't it? Although they say they aim for 6 hours in our MLU which isn't much longer. It's a far cry from yesteryear-my mum says she was in for 5 days when she had me and when my gran had her babies they used to give you Guinness after the birth to top up your iron levels apparently Hmm

Is anyone bothering with perineal massage? I am worried about tearing, particularly as baby is apparently going to be a 'good size' (ahem) and was wondering if this was worth a go?

Also, how on earth do you know if you are doing your pelvic floor exercises right? I can't tell which muscles I'm tensing and seem to end up squeezing either buttocks or stomach muscles (definitely wrong!)

On that note, have a good nights sleep all!

DairyNips · 17/05/2012 00:34

emblosion wow 6 hrs still is quick. I was in for 4/5 days with Ds1 and I think 3 days with ds2. Don't know if that's just how things happen here or whether they were making sure bfing was well established.

I did perineal massage with ds1 but tore anyway as he was back to back and had his arm above his headHmm I've heard it's supposed to help but it didn't make much difference to me so I never bothered with ds2.

The pelvic floors (that I always forget to do!) apparently, if you imagine going for a wee then stopping the wee mid flow, that's the muscles you need to use.

I came to bed at 12 but as usual can't get to sleep. It's getting harder and harder to get comfortable. Also, no matter how close to bedtime I have a wee I always need another.. Thats where I'm off now, to do yet another wee!Angry

McKayz · 17/05/2012 06:29

Dairy sorry you didn't get to sleep. I hope you got some after you posted.

I actually managed to sleep all night!! I was bloody bursting when I woke up though. My back aches pretty badly this morning but I think I slept really funny.

Hope everyone is well. Shouldn't be too long until the next baby arrives!

emblosion · 17/05/2012 07:54

Dairy I know, I'd rather stay in for longer just to check everything is ok (and to delay being in sole charge of a newborn, ha ha!). To be fair I think they keep you in for longer if any hint of probs/complications.

Hmm, am undecided about the perineal massage. Part of me thinks 'well it can't hurt' but it seems a bit of a faff and I can't really be bothered found some good info online last night about the old pelvic floor exercises, will be stepping my game up!

Morning McKayz am Envy that you slept through the night, I was up 3 times (a personal record!). Hope your backache eases off.

Star excellent news on the heartburn meds front! I've started getting it the last couple of weeks having never understood how grim it can be. I have a new found compassion for all heartburn sufferers.

I feel a bit crampy and Braxton Hicks-y this morning but it seems to be getting a bit better now (phew). Have a midwife appointment this morning so am off to get myself sorted. Have a good day all :)

ffnorm · 17/05/2012 08:02

Morning all and welcome back to Starlight Grin

So we had our scan and consultant app yesterday, lo is est weight of 2.7kg (6lb8) but lying transverse and inward which made it difficult to scan her. So they will rescan at 38 weeks, they are hopeful she will turn as it's my 2nd baby (I'm not so sure as she hasn't budged since 20 weeks) But if not then C/S at 39 weeks. Which has me feeling a bit down I had such high hopes of a "normal" vaginal delivery, less medicalised than my previous forceps delivery think I just need to get my head around it...

Hope all the insomnia/sickly feeling/SPD/heartburn is better today Smile

McKayz · 17/05/2012 08:02

I went home 9 hours after DS1 was born. I had no idea what to do with him or how I was meant to feed him. But the bed was needed by other women.

One of the main reasons I don't want a hospital birth ever again.

DairyNips · 17/05/2012 09:28

Morning ladiesSmile

Well I think I got to sleep around 1.30.. Only one loo break after that but ds2 kept waking all night as he had a temp and wasn't feeling right. Dh gave him some infant nurofen at some point in the early hours and he slept better after that.

McKayz glad you slept so well! Bummer on the achy back though, hope it eases as the day goes on.

BloominB · 17/05/2012 09:35

Hi, You've all been very busy on here. I'm struggling to keep up with all the posts. I'm still working 27.5 weeks now planning to finish Friday 25th and will have a week off before d-day!!!
Wow I am shocked that people were home from hospital so quickly - 6hrs!! What kind of support is there after that, ie home visits from midwife etc I really don't have a clue. I will ask my MW next week but just wondered what others experienced?
Thanks

BloominB · 17/05/2012 09:35

Previuos post should be 37.5 weeks now... not 27.5!!

PinkPanther27 · 17/05/2012 10:04

Hello all, I didnt sleep well at all last night either- toilet trips, spd, v bad nightmare about looking after best friend's toddler and losing her.
Now sitting on sofa with my 3 year old watching mr. Tumble and thinking I really should be doing something with him. Got scan late afternoon but any suggestions of something constructive i can do with him in the meanwhile bearing in mind i have spd so cant walk far, i need the toilet loads and im 37 weeks?!!
I hope we all get more sleep tonight. Ffnorm hope your baby turns for you

DairyNips · 17/05/2012 10:30

pink sorry you didn't sleep well. You've just reminded me, I had a similar dream, dreamt that I lost ds1 at an airportSad

I'm not doing anything constructive with the boys at the moment as I'm too tired and grumpy today. Ds1 is playing with the iPad- toy story app. Ds2 is watching fantastic mr fox whilst sitting on my knee. He is also grumpy and tired now his rubbish night's sleep has caught up on him..
