Congrats on your house sale KL! I hope you find somewhere.

Aprilgirl, it could be that something has come up in your blood tests.
I had my blood taken at 12 weeks and when I went for my next appt 3 weeks later only my iron results came back. It may be a similar situation for you.
I wouldn't worry yourself too much.

jayjaybaby · 13/03/2006 09:33

babylily · 13/03/2006 09:38

morning all.

Braxton Hicks... Anyone having them yet? I'd thought they didn't start until 20 wks but I'm sure been getting them for the past week. Don't have much of a bump yet (more of a gentle curve!), but the area goes tight and uncomfortable for about a minute at a time.
I'm 17 + 5 - is this too early!

Boopert · 13/03/2006 10:46

Been having Braxton Hicks for weeks now! Started when i was 14 weeks. I know this cos during a scan sonographer showed me what it looked like!!! Nice.

Nbg, feel free to slag us off, i do. Hate dishonest agents and yes, there are loads out there.....(Not me thou. Too bloody honest. 'Soory sir, i won't put your jouse on my books as its a shithole...' Lettings Agent Boopert. Grin

Have got really really bad sciatica and can just about hobble with it. Any tips on how to ease the pain? So bad was laying on my wood floor crying cos i couldn't move. Poor Dh done sod all, apparently was interupting Top Gear....lol

Hope everyone is well x

babylily · 13/03/2006 11:42

Think I'm just gonna chuck the pregnancy books in the bin! Thanks Boopert

Not sure what helps with sciatica - but I have severe SPD and find that hot/ warm water is fantastic - if I can't get to the pool/ or get anyone to help me in, I just get dh to help me into the bath. I'm also permanently attached to a hotwater bottle at home (and the cocodamol). Work is another matter - I sit at my desk making whiny moany noises every time I have to move!

Boopert · 13/03/2006 13:23

Well i had to bring a pillow with me to work. Dh thought it was hilarious seeing me slumped on a pillow in an office in full view of public! But he has been making tea today so i forgive.....

Will try bath thing tonight, can feel it in back and everwhere!!!! Angry

As for those bloody baby books, amazing how they change in three years, been comparing ones from ds pg to now, decided i'm going to stick with the old ones, less confusing for poor addled brain....

Arabica · 13/03/2006 13:35

Boopert, you need help! I do empathise, I've been there with my last pregnancy and with an ongoing back problem for past 15 years. Try a cold pack (or a packet of frozen veg) wrapped in a tea-towel & placed on your lower back. Your midwife/GP should be able to get you a referral to the physiosour hospital has a special service if you're pg. Or, if you can't wait, get yourself to an osteopath (aks if they are used to dealing with pg): if you're in London can recommend a great pg clinic nr Borough Tube. Acupuncture is great for pain relief but won't solve the underlying problem. In the longer term think about the way you are lifting heavy thingsmake sure you bend at the knees! DS put his arms around my neck one day and I lifted him up--BIG mistake. Shooting pains all down my left leg and walking like a zombie for next 2 weeks! Hope you feel better soon.

Arabica · 13/03/2006 13:37

Boopert, someone's also recommended you try having a bath in warm water. I find that nice and relaxing when my back's bad but do try the cold pack too. When you've trapped a nerve or had any kind of injury in the spinal region it all swells up, hence the stiffness you might be feeling. Cold pack reduces the swelling.

Boopert · 13/03/2006 13:58

Cheers for that Arabica. Yeah, must say, carrying a big 3yo is making things worse. Will tell him to practice his climbing up mummy skills!

Been refered by Consultant but spoke to the lady who said there is only one pg physio and one looooooooooooooooong que. Great! Will speak to dh and see if we can afford a private appt somewhere.

Nbg · 13/03/2006 14:14

Oooh I feel for you Boopert.
I was exactly the same last night. I couldn't bend down or even walk it was awful.
I'm in two minds to call my mum up and ask if I can have my grandads walking stick that she kept.
It's total agony.

Still haven't heard anything about the house and I'm getting more and more pissed off.
Those agents must not value their lives very much Wink

Jayjay, it sounds as though your baby is lying on that side and leaning on something which is causing the pain.

Boopert · 13/03/2006 14:21

Actually thats a good idea. My uncle made one for my dad (god only knows why, dad very fit and healthy, uncle a bit of a nutter....) maybe i can get that to hobble round the house with.

Just had big round doughnut with pink icing. Now feel sick......

Nbg · 13/03/2006 14:26

I've got physio again on Wednesday so I might ask about a stick or something
(my god, nearly 24 and needing a walking stick!)
It really is shocking pain and not being able to walk is ridiculous.

She said if I wanted a support belt I was just to ask and she would give me one.

Boopert · 13/03/2006 14:28

Well i feel better now. Nearly 29 and crippled. Gosh, now i feel OLD!!!! And crippled. Oh bugger.

Eve2005 · 13/03/2006 15:28

now i feel even worse, 21 and i'm hobbling like and old lady! poor dp's already having to hoist me of the couch at night as i can barely move. on top of that i've also got a 1 year old who like katylou's is refusing to learn how to walk and forcing me to lug her around with me everywhere! sad aren't we really? Blush

jay jay, i wouldn't worry, like nbg said, it's probably just your baby lying on something that's pinching a bit, my dd was like that, she even managed to get her foot tangled in my ribs a few times and was forever getting lodged sideways and jabbing her elbows in to my kidneys etc... can't say she's much more graceful on the outside! thankfully this fella is less awkward. although i am getting the braxton hicks much earlier this time than last which is worrying me a bit as they were really bad last time.

Boopert · 13/03/2006 15:32

Well now i do feel better.Grin

Jayjay, where is the pain? I remember with ds i had really bad pain in my kidney area. Dr rushed me in for a scan to reveal baby had decided to try and remove it himself. Obvoiusly taking up too much space!
Can't say i'm looking forward to that side of pg again...

ruthlouise · 13/03/2006 20:15

Hi everyone

Nbg - have you heard re house offer?

My goodness - there are lots of bad backs/hips around. I had SPD with my dd and now have what seems to be a trapped nerve high in my right buttock area. Don't think its SPD this time though as symptoms are different - with SPD I couldn't even do things like turn over in bed or get up off examining couch etc but with this, I just have pain and sometimes I go to step on my right leg and it gives way under me (I'm sure it looks really funny to an outsider -lucky I'm not going out etc due to this bedrest!) We have an excellent chiropracter near us but I daren't get treatment whilst still under threatened miscarriage - if something went wrong after treatment, I'd never know if it was the treatment or not.

Boobert - If you are seriously thinking of using your Dad's stick, u need to make sure its the right height or you could make your situation worse - Its easy to check the height - U have a knobbly bone on the outside of your wrist (its called the Ulna Styloid), turn the walking stick upside down onto its 'handle' and hold it on the ground, if its the correct height the bottom of the stick should be level with your ulna styloid when you are standing relaxed beside it. Hopefully it will be too long or just right. If its too long just draw a line at the correct height from the bottom of the stick to match your ulna styloid height and saw a bit off!! sadly, can't do anything if its too short. Hope that helps. ps also check that it has a decent ferrule (the rubber end bit) on it and that its not worn - you can buy replacement ferrules at mobility stores and some of the bigger Boots branches.
Your Dr should have been able to make a differential diagnosis of sciatica from your symptoms. In an ideal world (without long waiting lists) A physio or OT could / should do the stick/ mobility assessment for you - If its SPD, rather than sciatica they would probably recommend crutches rather than a stick (sticks are usually for left or right sided problems such as hips / knees whereas SPD is usually a core stability problem requiring support on both sides to reduce further problems and help keep you mobile.

Arabica · 13/03/2006 21:07

All you 20-somethings with your bad backs! My 44 year-old back is OK at the moment, but BOY do I have bad trapped wind/IBS at the moment! It's quite painful (although not as painful as sciatica) and somewhat antisocial!

ruthlouise · 13/03/2006 21:16

20 something? I wish!

Talking of bowel probs - apologies if TMI but on the morning of my threatened miscarriage, just 1 hour before bleeding I had a very upset stomach. Since then, for past 5 weeks or so I have repeatedly had upset stomach every 2-4 days with normal in between. Consultant just poo-pooed it (excuse the pun) as being unrelated but I do wonder. Anyone else having this sort of problem? I'm being careful what I eat but did read that bowel upsets can be related to hormones during pregnancy somewhere on a website (although it didn't elaborate as to which hormones or why)

babylily · 14/03/2006 09:50

Had to share this!
Lying in bed reading a story to DD last night, could feel baby moving so had my hand resting there when suddenly I felt a distinctive kick to my hand. DD put her hand there too and baby kicked her twice. She was absolutely stunned and so excited by it (she is 2.5). DH is only a bit put out that he wan't the first to feel baby kicking!

I was 20 weeks last time before we could feel kicking externally, so hadn't expected it this early at all. I had been a bit concerned that my bump is so non-existant, but now have proof that there IS a big strong bub in there!

Eve2005 · 14/03/2006 12:15

congratulations babylily, i always love that moment too. proof that i haven't imagined all the other movements!

Arabica · 14/03/2006 12:19

That's lovely Babylily! Wish I could feel mine doing that. I just get occasional v gentle movements at the moment. Maybe if there wasn't so much padding...
Ruthlouise, I was told that stomach bugs/diarrhoea etc aren't a problem unless they are really severe/accompanied by cramping.
This link is about \link{http://www.babycentre.co.uk/refcap/562886.html\wind and bloating} if there's anyone else out there suffering! It explains why we're more prone to that kind of thing during pregnancy and you can also search on the site for other health concerns (brilliant website--it's my first port of call for any probs!)

Nbg · 14/03/2006 13:15

Awwww babylily thats lovely. Fantastic that your dd got to feel it.

Ruthlouise, still not heard anything. It's made me very very angry. 4 days now! We have found another house a few doors down so when we can get back up there we're going to see it and if it's good, offer and withdraw on this one. They can't say we didn't give them enough opportunities.

Have been getting a few jabs here and there but I have to be sitting or lying down to notice it.

Micku5 · 14/03/2006 13:16

I know this is completely unrelated but i wanted to post a pic of my \link{http://community.webshots.com/myphotos?action=viewAllPhotos&albumID=548553423\dd.} I was admitted into hopsital on Saturday night and when I got home on Sunday morning i got the biggest cuddle and she said 'I missed you.' Really melted me and made the 26 hours labour worth it. Grin

Nbg · 14/03/2006 13:20

Are you ok Micku?

Eve2005 · 14/03/2006 13:23

she's lovely micku, as is bub in the tummy!

are you ok now?
