Gemmitygem, I have heard of ladies bleeding through pg some up to first 3 months, I also know of people who have bled and have pain and are having closer monitoring by the mw team. If there's no pain and cramping and no clots you should be ok, could this be implantation? I would recommend that you contact your dr or mw and get checked to ease your worries and put your mind at rest. Hope you are ok xx

Majormoo I haven't a reason for mine other than over eating last week and being pg

Hello to everyone hope nausea isn't causing too much problems.

totallyfloaty35 · 07/02/2006 09:49

Hi Gem,i had bleeding with my 2nd preg so i know how scary it can be.If i remember correctly i had it early on at approx 6 wks and again at about 14 wks. hospital said not to worry and that mc is usually continuous bleed with clots. My baby was ok ,my friend also bled through both her pregnancies, spotting like you, hers were fine to.How many wks are you?

Gemmitygem · 07/02/2006 11:52

Thanks Nikki and totallyfloaty.

When you say 'continuous bleed', how long is that? Mine was literally one little gush, that was it. I went to lie down straight away and it turned brown about an hour later. It didn't feel like an actual period, where you get pains and feel your uterus contracting (I'm usually in agony with periods)...

Am only 4w 4 days totallyfloaty, so I know it's early days.

Also I'm working in Central Asia so haven't even thought about healthcare providers yet, in fact I was going to wait till a trip back to the UK in March when I'll be 12 weeks, to have all the first tests and scans. But as things are I think I'll be dying for an early scan at 6 weeks to set my mind at rest.

Anyway thanks for your support! I guess all I can do is wait... Sorry to hear all you're having nausea; but I was told it was a very good sign and meant the baby was a strong developer..((ps am still feeling sicky/hungry).

totallyfloaty35 · 07/02/2006 12:02

Hi gem, continuous bleed is several days.Im about the same dates as you,im constantly convinced im bleeding and keep dashing to the loo to check, but i felt like this last time.

FirstNikki · 07/02/2006 12:51

I totally understand the paranoia of keep going to the loo to check... hope this feeling goes away. Gem are the medical facilities totally useless there?

Gemmitygem · 07/02/2006 13:33

ok, well wouldn't call it continous (just a few brown dots yesterday and nothing today). Know what you mean about rushing to check though!

Re med facilities, this is Kazakhstan. There is one super expensive and not very good clinic staffed by foreign trained doctors, and then there are hospitals but not great, e.g. they have ultrasound etc but a very old fashioned attitudes (former Soviet Union is not known for its maternity care to put it lightly). So I would really rather wait till go back to UK, unless something is actually wrong..

DH says he feels instinctively I'm still preg (he is usually the one with the feminine intuition!) so will just have to wait. It's so hard not knowing for sure though!

Back to work tomorrow so won't mope over it
thanks for all your helpful comments, I feel quite alone as obviously don't want to tell anyone except DH yet, especially given the bleed..

FirstNikki · 07/02/2006 13:47

Here if you need us, am sure you will be ok though..just take it easy where you can x

riley3 · 07/02/2006 13:53

Hi all - my quick lunchtime visit!
Gem - why don't you just do another pg test? Didn't you say they were v cheap over there? For what it's worth - the fact that the bleed wasn't accompanied by any cramping can only be a positive sign. I had a very early mc once and it was like the worst period ever. Keep your chin up. If you have any questions you can't find out over there, post them here and we can try to find out for you.
FirstNikki - I will find the sw site - I need the encouragement. And stop mentioning chocolate. I am pretending to myself that I have gone off it!

Gemmitygem · 07/02/2006 13:58

Thanks Nikki and Riley!

will wait a week and do another test (don't want to test too soon as heard you can test + for quite a while after m/c)...

Good luck with not eating chocolate, I know what you mean Nikki about getting a preg bulge immediately, DH noticed I'm bulging already. It's like everything's thickening up a bit. Oh well, it will all be worth it!

FirstNikki · 07/02/2006 14:37

Riley I have been good today! he he having those fox's officially low fat choc and orange bars only 2.5 syns! yum here's the SW link

Gem take care of yourself I am sure you will be fine this board is a great source of support.

Have just read that the best sleeping position is on your left side during pg as it promotes blood supply and nurishment to the foetus. So with that in mind I shall try to do this, cos I am trying not to sleep on my tum and so I have been on my right side but waking in the morning with like a pin sharp pain above my navel and sharp pains in my lower right abdomen so this could be why? (although it is early to cause any pressure)

totallyfloaty35 · 07/02/2006 15:43

nikki/riley,jaffa cakes are a good diet treat, lower in fat and cals than most diet treats.Saying that i have so gone off chocolate, the very thought makes me queasy, and that was the mainstay of my diet before. Is everyone still feeling horribly tired? cant wait for this bit to pass.

FirstNikki · 07/02/2006 16:15

Yes very tired but pleased this cold is lifting a little. All I want to do is sit at home and put my feet up not motivated to go out or see friends, although I think the fact we aren't saying anything until the scan doesn't help if you don't see them you don't have to lie or hide the growing belly

riley3 · 07/02/2006 16:34

Totally F - if chocolate was the mainstay of your diet before then it's a bloody good thing you've gone off it - your baby making its presence felt early! As for when the feeling wears off, can't help you there - I have never had any morning sickness to speak of and this pg appears no different.
Nikki - have checked out SW website - will post on it soon - fantastic for recipes & support etc! Doing ok today but want a SW fry-up tonight!

majormoo · 07/02/2006 18:00

gemmittygem-I had bleeding with DD-very slight- at around 6 weeks and all was fine. I did get an early scan for reassurance. The midwife has just phoned me to arrange my first appointment, and I mentioned the fact in the early weeks I have had bleeding before, and she said that this is very common and not to worry too much (though to call if I want to). So fingers crossed all will be well.

I had a long train journey to a meeting today and felt exhausted the whole way through. Our Managing Director was there so I would have preferred to make a good impression rather than look like I was about to fall asleep. Oh well.

Hope everyone else is feeling OK.

3kids · 08/02/2006 06:06

Hello again everyone, still feeling very rough and have now got the cold on top! It's all in my head and i ache all over. I hope everyone else is doing ok.

FirstNikki · 08/02/2006 09:26

Morning ladies,

understand 3kids about the cold, mine feels a little better this morning though. I also have a blooming cold sore to top it and can't put anything on it.

Going to try and eat for one today!

hope this roughness clears soon xx

riley3 · 08/02/2006 12:42

I feel for you 3kids! I had a cold like that a few weeks ago, when I was just pg (and not aware of it). I think sometimes you can get colds etc worse when you're pg because your body is concentrating on other things. That was certainly the worst cold I had had for well over a year! I slept on the sofa for 3 nights so as not to spread disease when cuddling DH and DS2 (DS1 being far too old for such sentimentality....). Good look eating for 1 FirstNikki! NOW I realise what I did wrong in my last 2 pgs!

majormoo · 08/02/2006 12:53

oh dear hope the colds lift soon

Hope things have settled down for you Gemmitygem.

I had a horrible dream last night that I restested and results were negative. Obviously worrying too much as usual.

My midwife was very nice anyway when I spoke to her yesterday. I explained I was keen to have a scan here in Brighton to check if there is a heartbeat before facing going up to Kings for the dreaded nuchal. She said she will sort a dating scan out for me around 11 weeks, and if all is well I can have my nuchal at around 12 weeks.

FirstNikki · 08/02/2006 13:19

glad your mw is nice majormoo and great news about your scans...

what is the nuchal scan?? (sorry I dont know)

majormoo · 08/02/2006 14:11

Hi Nikki
The nuchal scan is done around 12 weeks (I think it is anytime between 11-14 weeks). It is done to check for chromosonal abnormalities such as Downs Syndrome. It measures fluid at the back of the baby's neck. This, together with the mother's age, is used to give a risk of whether the baby has a chromosonal problem. At King's (not sure this is the same everywhere) they check for the presence of a nasal bone as well to give them a fuller picture. I, unfortunately, know a bit about this, because it was during a nuchal scan last year, that we were told they were almost certain our baby had Patau's syndrome, another chromosonal abnormality, that is incompatible with life. From this we had a CVS which is a diagnostic test, which told us for certain that the baby had Patau's.

I am really hoping to avoid a CVS this time around, but will not know until they assess our risk at the nuchal

Gemmitygem · 08/02/2006 14:34

Hi everyone, how are you?

I'm feeling a bit calmer today, spoke to a colleague who is a doctor and she said she thought it sounded unlikely I had m/cd. Still feel v preg, so will wait and see, but feel deep down it's all right..

Sorry to hear you've got colds; it's freezing here but dry so doesn't feel so bad. Got really cold over the weekend when we went to Moscow, which looking back along with rushing around might have been what caused the bleed.

Anyone know good preg exercise videos etc? I'm scared to go to the gym at the moment but would like to do something so as not to feel like such a lump.

Anyway hope you're all fine and thanks for your support!

FirstNikki · 08/02/2006 14:49

Hi Gem

glad you have managed to speak to a dr but I remain hopeful that you are pg and this was jsut a matter of implantation. If you previously exercised regularly then its safe to continue at a lesser pace I believe. Can you go swimming or go for a gentle walk as these are good options I do believe.

Glad you you are feeling better too.

Best of luck x

FirstNikki · 08/02/2006 14:50

thanks for letting me know majormoo and I am sorry to hear of your circumstance and experience last year. everything crossed for you that all is well this time. x

totallyfloaty35 · 08/02/2006 15:23

Hi Majormoo, i live in same area as you,im having my nuchal scan at goring hall hospital.Sorry to hear about loss of last pregnancy.
