Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
nowanearlyNicemum · 23/03/2006 12:42

I don't think you can catch it from people majormoo. I wouldn't even have thought about the risks from going to see new-born lambs either, to be honest. But I'm sure you're doing the right thing. glad to hear that your scan went well.

mine isn't until 11th April - that's sooooo long to wait...

booge · 23/03/2006 14:22

Hi majormoo, the problem with sheep is not just toxoplasmosis but also chlamydiosis and and listeriosis too which can lead to miscarriage. The current advice is. Not help to with lambing and avoid contact with aborted or new-born lambs or with the afterbirth and to avoid handling clothing or boots which have come into contact with ewes or lambs.

My family are farmers so I was made aware of this advice. The thing to do would be to get your DH to wash his as your DD's clothes and boots afterwards.

Annelouise · 23/03/2006 14:43

Now theres an idea to getting the DH to do the washing send them all down the farm and then say we can't touch it!

marthahm · 23/03/2006 19:53

whiffy, well written, i sit looking at the screen trying to work out what to say when i read the sad messages from people i feel i know, but i never seem to be able to come up with the right words. hang in there trophywife and sparkly we are all thinking of you, i wish we could do more.

re:toxoplasmosis, i've had exactly the same advice as booge-also from farming family. and, my aunt did catch it from washing her dh's overalls when she was pg so it does have to be taken seriously. for the first year ever i am going no where near the lambing shed.
my scan isn't til the 4th april. i am really nervous now, but in a way, maybe it's better to realise that the scan can be awful sometimes so that you're more prepared just in case-not sure.
i told my boss today about the pg. he was full of congratulations but confirmed that i'll have to reapply for a job if there's one going when i get back. still, looks like i get to keep the best part of my job which is covering occasional shifts at the neonatal intensive care unit. should be fine as long as the guy i cover doesn't want a holiday/get sick from mid october to christmas! fingers crossed.
am going to curl up in front of desperate housewives vid from last night now-if only i could have some alcohol too...

Gemmitygem · 24/03/2006 03:31

Morning everyone!

What do you think about us starting a 'Part 2' thread? We're getting quite big Grin

totallyfloaty35 · 24/03/2006 10:01

Hi people,am very down today, midwives office phoned to cancel my apt again! im 11wks now and not seen anyone. They said they will call monday and try and arrange another, but it took almost 3wks to get the one they just cancelled.DH just called from USA where hes working and got me sobbing like mad about it,i feel really stressed as i have had no advice and loads of stuff has changed since my last pgs.I only got my nuchal arranged cause i called and did it myself.
Sorry for the rant guys,dh has told me i can go back to st john and st elizabeths birth unit, its private and i had dd2 there, but its in london and im near Brighton, how would i get there?

nowanearlyNicemum · 24/03/2006 10:55

that's really out of order totallyfloaty. have they explained why they keep cancelling your appointments? can you not go anywhere else for an appointment? (not quite sure how the UK system works these days)
I would have been furious too. When do you have your scan?

Gemmitygem · 24/03/2006 10:56

floaty, sorry you're down; they sound a bit hopeless, to be honest.

why don't you make an appointment with st john and st eliz; I'm sure they do a general check and scan, or with another private place where you can just get a scan? I'm sure it would set your mind at rest. You could probably pop up to London tomorrow and have it.

Are you thinking of giving birth there? I'd love to but don't have a base in London and wouldn't know where to stay..

also 11 wks today, thinking of you, let us know what you decide, sure it will be OK!

totallyfloaty35 · 24/03/2006 11:14

My scan is on wednesday eve,i booked it myself at a private hospital on south coast.
Its approx £6000 to give birth at John & Lizzies, and they dont do one off checks for you,you have to book in for whole thing. Also it takes to long to drive to london, dont want to be stuck in traffic while in labour.
Midwife is sick which is why they cancelled and i couldnt go to antenatal clinic as its understaffed,so am now looking at private midwife, but they cost £2600,scary

chick · 24/03/2006 12:14

hello ladies...

so sorry to hear about your news sparky and trophy... hope evrything goes smoothly and that you'll feel better soon... it does get better as have had experience of mc myself.... get all the support you can!

may i join in please... due beginning of oct... posting under another name as i have not yet announced to the world that i am preggers... am a bit nervous due to misacarriage last year .. so am waiting for scan ect to see if all is okay and then will announce...

dunno if anyone else if feeling this as i am feelingabsolutely cream crackered at the moment...

i am soooo lacking in energy and just zero enthusiasm to getting anything done around the house... i hope it's just the early stages as with no1.. i was really tired... no2 i didn;t even notice i was pregannat until i was 20 weeks... so i am all over the show and just feel like lying on a sofa but with two littlies.. just not poss....

dh is fantastic and does all the morning duties etc as i just cannot get myself out of bed... filled with broken nights... incredibely dry mouth (have to keep waking up and talking sips of water) and have horrible taste in my mouth all day (bile! yeuch!) so hope everyone is feeling much better than me....

sunnyside · 24/03/2006 13:21

I've just caught up with this thread and I'm so sorry to hear the sad news from sparkly and trophy. I went through the same last July and know how difficult it can be to deal with... Hope you soon feel much better.

Chick I know exactly what you mean - I feel more tired than ever in my life before! Ds 1 is 20 months and has been poorly for the last few days and waking a lot at night. I'm like a zombie! House is like a tip and since no-one knows yet I haven't even got a valid excuse!

sparkly1 · 24/03/2006 18:59

Wanted to wish you all well and continued healthy pregnancies. I have now miscarried or am in the process of and whilst it's a sad time for us we'll regroup and move forward when the time is right for us. And don't let the fact that a few of us having bad experiences scare you or make you anxious. You wouldn't normally know this many pregnant women at one time so you can't quite compare it to real life. I will no doubt have a look come October and see how everyone is doing. Thank you all for all your support through the last month or so. It's been brilliant as mumsnet normally is. And, hey, on the plus side, you won't have to hear about my lusting after Vernon Kay anymore! I even dreamt the other night he dj'd at our wedding - dp not impressed!

Good wishes to you all.

majormoo · 25/03/2006 10:50

Sparkly good to hear from you. Take care.
Welcome Chick-yes I am constantly exhausted as well.
Totallyfloaty that is dreadful that they keep cancelling your appointments. As for worrying about getting to London for the labour,-you could end up doing that under the NHS! My friend, due to have her baby in Brighton, had to have him in a London hospital on Monday. He had breathing problems and they had to shut Brighton special care because of a bug!

Holding my breath until Thursday and the nuchal. Not to rub it in TotallyFloaty, but I already have a date for my anomaly scan-5th June. God I hope we get that far this time.

Thanks for the sheep advice-have instructed them to wash all their clothes at grandma's house before setting foot back in the door. Could be an interesting day for DH. DD has decided today is the day she wants to wear big girls pants, so could be fun potty training down on the farm!!!

wuzzlefraggle · 25/03/2006 12:03

hello ladies, hope that you are all feelin ok

chick, welcome to the thread and i know exactly what you mean regarding feeling tired all the time...yuck [nackered emoticon]

majormoo, hope that thursdays appointment goes smoothly and that alls good :)

sparkly, its good to hear from you and i wish you all the very best for the future xox

as for me, you would think that the constant nausea, being sick, generally feeling crap would be enough, but oh no...ive managed to catch a flaming cold too lol
does being pg make your immune system go down at all??
take it easy ladies xoxox Grin

totallyfloaty35 · 25/03/2006 14:53

Hi all,i have been in touch with some independant midwives, seriously considering it as want some control and feeling very out of it re the nhs.Rebooked my nuchal scan with Fetal Medicine Centre, they check about 5 different things, heart valve, nasal bone etc and do blood test,so thought may as well see them, plus they have nice modern machine
Anyone know if we are allowed to eat smoked salmon? i have discovered pasteurized camembert are we allowed to eat that? pg rules out most of my staple diet

totallyfloaty35 · 25/03/2006 14:55

Welcome all newbies, wishing you happy healthy pgs.
Majormoo, have you had a dating scan yet?

totallyfloaty-I had a dating scan on Wednesday and it went fine. Was 11+1 then, so due date is still 10th October, as we thought.
I guess if it is pasturized cambertbert then it is OK. Was thinking this morning how I am missing all the cheeses that are off limits. It seems like there is so much we cannot eat. I don't think you are supposed to eat smoked salmon. With DD I ate both smoked salmon and prawns the whole way through and had no problems, but am a bit more paranoid about the whole thing this time. We are off to Bordeaux for a week in June-16 of us are going and sharing a few gites as friends are getting married there. Everyone else will be tucking into the runny cheese and lovely red wine! great!
Wuzzle-yes your immune system is compromised while you are pregnant

majormoo · 25/03/2006 18:17

p.s. Bea you and Gemmity are right we probably do need a new thread but I am too chicken to start one.

totallyfloaty35 · 25/03/2006 18:30

Majormoo, just spoke to lovely independant mw,she told me we can eat smoked salmon, and shell fish like prawns.Mussels and cockles are more of a no,she also said you have 1 in 60000 chance of getting listeria from soft/blue cheese.
Problem is my craving is for alcoholShock

totallyfloaty35 · 25/03/2006 18:32

Started new thread its called due oct part 2

majormoo · 25/03/2006 18:35

I know what you mean about the alcohol-I really miss my wine in the evenings! Plus I am on a hen do in a couple of weeks time which is going to be a barrel of laughs stone cold sober.

twinkle183 · 02/08/2006 12:41
