Just sat down to google snails :) I don't plan on cooking any but DS asked if a snail was nocturnal and I didn't know [blush). So here I am sneaking on and I want to say how very sorry I am for your losses.
My sympathies. I'm sorry, my friend lost her grandmother recently, she wasn't too well, in her late eighties and had moved into a nice care home. Just a couple of weeks later and she passed away. Very hard for everyone. I'll pop in later hopefully to chat, but for the now, just giving my condolences.
Please look after your bumps and get plenty of rest. Thanks

TeaandHobnobs · 24/02/2012 17:45

Kveta and Rhi, sorry to hear your sad news Sad I agree with Warlin, it's at sad times like these when the prospect of a new baby joining the family means all the more - how precious life is! Please both take good care of yourselves - I remember from when my Granddad passed away 8 years ago (gosh, I can't believe it is that long ago) that being there for your mum when you are also grieving can be so tough.

On to lighter things?

The worst of this project I have been on for the last 4/5 months seems to have passed, so I am starting to feel more positive about work again Smile

Also means I have treated myself to an afternoon off (sneaky) and browsed John Lewis -bought some boring things like a new bra to sleep in (the one I had before is rubbish), a bra extender (how dull), and some wool to try and get my knitting skills back on track. Resisting buying any baby clothes (ohhhh but sooooo cute!), but had a browse round the nursery furniture and the pushchairs - think I am formulating in my mind what we actually need to get now.

Can you believe John Lewis (Oxford Circus) doesn't sell maternity clothes?! only online?! rubbish

As my client didn't bother dialling in to our 5pm conference call Hmm I'm now chilling in starbucks with a hot choc, and MNing until DH finishes work Grin

Hope you all have nice weekends ahead - driving lesson for me tomorrow (with my totally bonkers instructor, can't wait to see what he does this week) and Sunday lunch with old schoolfriends, including one who is due in May! Hope our bumps are proportionate - everyone seems very surprised when I tell them I'm only 23 weeks Confused

ChateauMargot · 24/02/2012 18:00

So sorry to hear your news, rhi and kveta. Like Warlin, I think of my early-60s parents as young and sprightly, but every so often I'm reminded that they won't be around forever, and it's terribly difficult to imagine. Hugs to you both, and hope you manage to have restful weekends.

rrrayray · 24/02/2012 18:58

Rhi and Kveta - sorry for your losses.

Kayzr - sorry about Blocked nose, but also, someone feel free to Inform if you are more certain than I am, but I am pretty sure we aren't suposed to take lempsit. Even the hot drink form!!! Have you tried a sinus spray, I think those (bizarrely) are on the green list! X

rrrayray · 24/02/2012 19:03

Kayzr - that is assuming you are Drinking it & not just sniffing it!!!' Blush

Kayzr · 24/02/2012 19:12

Rhi, I am really sorry to hear about your Nan.

rrray, the Boots own cold and flu is fine to take during pregnancy as all it has in it is paracetamol and vitamin C.

Novmama · 24/02/2012 20:24

Thanks to all for your kind messages. Feeling a little better today estactica you are right re taking it easy.

Took first iron tab yesterday felt decidely peculiar. So today taking after my dinner. Hopefully I can sleep off any side effects.

Hope everyone has a great weekend...

Alligatorpie · 25/02/2012 04:19

Hi, I just found you! It looks like quite the active community here!

I am due June 17, this is my second child. dd just turned six. We are currently living in Egypt, but I am planning to go back to the UK (at 36 weeks) to have this baby. Although my dr here is very experienced and was recommended to me, I feel like I have to ask her to anything other than a scan ( measuring, urine, blood tests...) so will be grateful to see a midwife who will take charge of the medical issues.

Have a great Saturday everyone!

ecstatica · 25/02/2012 07:19

Good morning ladies,
Novmama -- Glad to hear you're feeling better :)
TeanHobs -- Is that a sigh of relief I hear from getting over worst of the project? That's great news then! Good luck with your driving lesson.

Hope everyone enjoys the weekend. We've been having much milder weather here for once!

Alligatorpie -- Welcome to the June group and congratulations :)
Hope you are enjoying that warm Egyptian sun.

Alligatorpie · 25/02/2012 08:56

Thanks, the sun is great now, won't be so great at 40 C and 36 weeks pregnant!

SeriouslyStrongCheddar · 25/02/2012 09:51

Morning all!

Just a quick visit before I head out today - we're heading down the A1 to go to Kiddicare in a bit (via the Post Office to pick up some enormous parcels of baby clothes bundles we bought on ebay!).

Welcome to all newcomers!

Thoughts with all those having a difficult time at the moment.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Kayzr · 25/02/2012 10:24

Welcome Alligatorpie. I'd love a bit of warm sunshine. It's sunny here but cold. Grin

I want to go to kiddicare. I might stomp my feet when DP gets home. It won't take too long. Maybe 3 hours to get there.

I ordered the boys suits for the wedding today. I can't wait for them to arrive so I can get them to try them on.

Hope everyone is ok. Smile

ceeej · 25/02/2012 12:32

hi all, I'm still here but have not managed to check in much this week as have been chained up in a library finishing my thesis. I've just sent a final copy to my supervisors and need to do one more proof read on Tuesday before getting it printed on Wednesday Grin We're about to head off to stay at Hambledon Hall for the weekend and are dropping in at Kiddicare on Monday (very elaborate plan to make the 2.5h drive to Peterborough seem sensible!)

Hi greengoose, good to see you pop in but so sorry you're that you're having a difficult time. I will keep everything crossed that she stays put until 37 weeks and everything proceeds smoothly.

RHI I am so sorry for your loss and kveta for your terrible news, just being there to listen will probably help with grief a lot more than you realise at the time. Sending you both big hugs.

Wave to all the newbies, I will be getting much more talkative soon. I hope everyone whose feeling under the weather gets better soon. It looks like beautiful weather outside at the mo, wishing everyone a great weekend.

rhibutterfly · 25/02/2012 16:50

thanks all feeling a lot better today, i keep reminding myself nan at peace now with no more struggles and my grandfather bearing up really well, just get thru funeral thurs now xx

SeriouslyStrongCheddar · 25/02/2012 18:51

Evening all!

Well, Kiddicare was fab - think I'll be visiting again!

They didn't have the travel system we want to have a look at as it's not out until March / April (interested in the Hauck Freerider Shop 'n' Drive) so that's a good excuse to go back!

We only bought a few of things - a musical mobile that was on cheap and a pop up travel cot for when we go on hols in September (when we got home DH took it out of the bag to see what inflatable mattress I need to get as have to buy that online and it 'popped up' and nearly took his head of - funniest thing I've seen in ages Grin It's now in the middle of the lounge 'cause we can't work out how to get it back in it's bag Blush).

Also, got a fab deal on an end of line gliding nursing chair. It's got a few marks on it but was so comfy I wasn't leaving without one. Once we established they'd take it apart for us so we could try and get it in the car, DH was convinced - although we're still a little fuzzy on where it's actually going to fit in the house Grin. It's not like I already have two rocking chairs in one of our outbuildings because there's no where for them in the house...Hmm

SeriouslyStrongCheddar · 26/02/2012 10:01

Morning all!

Well, have just re-arranged the lounge and rebuilt my new glider chair - am absolutely knackered and the room looks a lot smaller with an extra chair in, but am now sitting in it feeling very proud of myself for achieving so much!

I can really recommend these chairs if anyone is thinking of getting one - soooo comfy!

Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

TeaandHobnobs · 26/02/2012 10:47

Aw SSC very Envy of the glider chair - I spotted one in JL on Friday, but sadly there is absolutely no prospect of there being space for it here. Mum and I were trying to figure out yesterday how I will even fit a cot in alongside my bed!

Hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine! (hope you all have sunshine today??) Love the feeling that spring is here Grin

Kayzr · 26/02/2012 11:54

SSC I am also very Envy of the chair. DP says I can have one if I can find somewhere to put it. But I haven't found anywhere for it to go Sad

Tea I have no sunshine Sad it is quite warm though. Along the road I live on there is grass between the road and pavement and there are loads of snowdrops and crocus (is it crocuses or crocusi?Confused) Farndale is near here where everyone comes to see the daffodils and it always makes me think of spring.

I have worked out that I need to sleep on DPs side of the bed really as that is where the cot will be. There is room on my side but its next to the window and radiator.

Hope you are all well.

AmethystMoon · 26/02/2012 14:00

Hi all

Kveta and Rhi I am so sorry to hear of your sad news, thinking of you both Thanks.

Welcome Alligator :)

Just to update you all I have found out why I was fainting! I went back to see my doctor on Friday morning as the lightheaded feeling wasn't improving. Well to cut a long story as short as I can, I was sent straight to A&E where they started to check for a PE (blood clot on my lung), epilepsy and heart problems!!! Shock They wired me up to heart monitors, blood pressure monitors, took lots of blood then came back and said they now needed blood from an artery rather than veins. This was all new to me, I hadn't really thought aboutit before but normal blood tests take blood from veins which are near the surface and can be seen...they needed the artery blood to see how well my blood was oxgenating and to check for markers for a PE. I asked how they know where the artery is...and the lovely doc said, "Oh we can't see them, we have to just go in with the needle and and poke about until we find it" !!!! He used my wrist as it is very skinny (only skinny bit of me ha ha! Grin) and so said it should be easy to find....well he was great but it bl*y hurts! My advice is if anyone comes towards you with a needle asking to take blood from your wrist from your artery...run!!! Grin
They kept me in overnight, hooked up to heart monitors but the fainting didn't get any better...anyway, eventually diagnosis is that my 'pregnant uterus' (thought it was me that was pregnant but apparently not, it is my uterus Grin) is squashing my artery in my pelvis affecting my 'venous return', i.e. gives my swollen legs, makes me short of breath and makes me faint! Solution - don't sit down or lie on my back as this is when it happens and explains why it was so bad when I was driving last Monday. It's at its worst when I try to sit still. So no driving until after the baby is born (nightmare) and no sitting (yeah right!), my DP suggested he get my a chaise longue Grin - reckon I could get used to that!

Anyway enough about me and my fun, hope you are all well and have lovely weekends in the sunshine x

rhibutterfly · 26/02/2012 14:48

Amethystnot good but bet it's a relief to find out what is wrong at least, all the best :)

Alligatorpie · 26/02/2012 16:07

I went to the dr yesterday and found out I am anemic. Hopefully the iron tablets will make me feel better. does anyone else ave any experience with these?

Hope those of you who are having a rough time are getting better.

Miniangel · 26/02/2012 16:41

Hi everyone sorry haven't been posting for a few days as was admitted to hospital. My UTI had gotten worse and the infection had gone up my kidneys making me extremely ill. They put me on iv antibiotics and saline at the hospital. I got discharged on Thursday night and am much better now. I was in the antenatal ward and there were full term ladies being induced. It was very scary and fascinating at the same time.

Sorry for your loss rhi and sorry to hear your news Kveta. Hope your mum reaches there in time.

Welcome Alligatorpie. I am anaemic too and have been taking iron tablets. They are fine and after a bit of time you will find that you feel less tired and have more energy which is great.

Amethyst all the very best. The artery thing sounds painful. Glad that you know the cause of fainting and take the neccessary precautions.

Miniangel · 26/02/2012 16:42

BTW did anyone go to the baby show in London? How was it? I really wanted to go but am not well enough to walk alot.

Kveta · 26/02/2012 19:02

hi all.

Amethyst sounds like a grim time in hospital - but good you have a diagnosis. how crap though, 15 or so more weeks of that!

mini sorry you're still feeling rough too :( pregnancy is not such a magical time for you, huh?

seriously am also Envy at the glider chair, we don't have the space for one, but they look lovely.

my mum made it down in time, apparently my aunt has been given a week maximum to live :( my cousin and his family made it back from overseas in time (they live in the far east), and other cousin is staying with his parents until the end. Mum and dad came back via us today, which was emotional, but also hilarious - we skype them every sunday morning, so DS was going 'skype granny now?' all morning, and when I saw them draw up outside, I said 'ok, let's skype them now'. He, of course, ran to the computer, and I swept him up and ran outside with him where he was just ecstatic to see granny and grandad and the dogs! I think he cheered them up a bit too. Anyway, looks like we'll have a big family get together in the near future :( mum is working tomorrow, but hoping to fly back down later in the week to be there for my Nan until the end. All very sad.

Also, we are having our house painted this week, so DH and I spent today tidying the living/dining room, and I spent yesterday digging the garden in preparation for spring planting - so we are both KNACKERED and sore. plus DH has a stinking cold, and I'm still not sleeping, so we are total zombies today. Adulthood really is overrated, isn't it?! :o
