Hi Ladies!

Introducing baby Charlie, born this morning @ 0824. Its no wonder my pelvis was so bad considering he weighed in at a whopping 10lbs 4oz. He has now taken the title of biggest family baby.
All he wants to do is sleep. All the time. Cant wake him. At the hospital he was latching on but since we got home at 1800h he wont wake enough to latch on. Im not happy.

So birth story.
As you know waters started on Thursday about 12noon. Continued leaking right through to last night. We were booked in for 1015 yesterday to get things started. So after examination they inserted the pessary(sp?) which did nowt. Charlie was always sleeping so they had me on chocolate and lucozade to make him wake up for the monitor readings. Was told that we would be moved to a labour suite 6 hours after the pessary which was administered at 1pm. At 11pm we got to our suite. It is very busy in there just now.
So they hooked my up to a drip that would naturally encourage the contractions to start, managed to get about half way through the night before I needed the G&A. Was sick quite a few times as well. Eventually asked for diamorphine as my body was starting to contract by its self. Just before 8am I insisted I needed the loo. On standing up my body when mental. MW said she would examine me after being at the toilet. She never got that far. Charlie was delivered at 824 with me on my knees.
It is a good way to deliver but by christ its messy. The room looked like a murder scene. But surprisingly I didnt lose too much blood. Despite the 1st degree tear.

Im considering given Charlie a top up of formula as Im not happy that he's had nothing since just after 4pm today.

Congrats on all the other new babies!!!!

ParsleyLion1 · 15/01/2012 07:08

Well donesho Grin sounds like a relatively good experience. It's a pity about the latch. Will the midwife visit you today? They do here but not sure if there is a different system up there?

Woken up with a snotty nose this morning. Don't want a cold for tomorrowSad

Having my hair cut today. I brought it forwards a couple of weeks as I can't see I'll have time later and I'm too vain to let my roots come through!

fishandlilacs · 15/01/2012 08:24

well done shonno, brill news. Seriously don't worry about the milk, dd had my colostrum but I didn't make any milk for 6 days after dd but once we got going she soon caught up. She didn't have a top up til day 4 so resist if you think he can manage. he needs to suckle to get the milk going-big babies can lose a bit of weight quite safely without any ill effects.

In other news my sisters boy was born at 3.37am this morning. They broke her waters at 5pm last night and she got going straight away on the drip. she managed only gas and air and delivered a boy weighing a whopping 9.10lb. I have been awake since 3.35 laying there thinking about her-dd came in after i woke her at 4.45 going for a wee and we went back to sleep together. The text came in at 7.30 this morning. The relief is quite something-i was sick with worry with the lack of updates.

ParsleyLion1 · 15/01/2012 09:15

That's quite a relief fish congrats to your sisterGrin

V frustrating re the lack of updates though - they probably just didn't think

ghosteditor · 15/01/2012 10:08

Congratulations to your sister fish, that must be a huge relief!

Can we have a roll call for the remaining thread ladies? I'm losing track of where we are and can't find the stats thread on the app .

ghosteditor 40+3 and counting...

This morning I will mostly be... Baking a cake to keep myself busy. Freezer is now officially full, so no more meal prep for us!

So, I personally know four women who have given birth this week - how depressing is that when you're overdue?! Envy

Oeisha · 15/01/2012 10:26

sho Congratulations! Thanks And welcome Charlie! [Bear]

fish Congrats to you too! What a relief.

ghost I'm trying to patiently wait too, though not 'overdue' yet.

ghosteditor 40+3 and counting...
Oeisha 39+4 and trying NOT to count...but failing.

Karmanna - 40 weeks today!

Had cramping all night but it's gone now and I'm symptom less again. Sigh... Tried everything in the last couple of days: Bouncing, walking, curries, RLT, sex, and I thought it'd started to pay off but obviously not... :(

I'm dreading DH going back to work tomorrow after the weekend - I get so lonely and bored! And the FB / text 'nagging' will ramp up now I've reached the official due date!

Hope everyone with new babies are enjoying snuggles and all you ladies in waiting are doing ok!

addictediam · 15/01/2012 11:16

Addicted 37+1 and am hoping the spider crawling up my leg induced panic attack that had me running around and screaming this morning will start me off.

xshevix · 15/01/2012 11:36

Shevi 39 weeks today :-)

ghosteditor · 15/01/2012 11:42

Grin heehee addicted, I think adrenalin is good for the second stage, not so good for bringing on labour, sorry!

(selfishly) glad that others are still around to keep me company; I don't think anyone else quite understands. I'm a lot more uncomfortable when trying to move around now as the baby's head seems to make it impossible to bend down/forwards etc.

karmanna, I've tried the whole gamut of recommendations too, except clary sage I think. Three curries in the last three days! And the sex too. My MWs reckon sex is the main contender as the prostaglandin is important.

Still having regular (but not really frequent - every 15 mins or so) HBs, but am ignoring them as they've been around for well over a week with no apparent progress. But everyone tells me it's a good sign to have them as the body then knows what to do. I'm quite nervous about waters breaking as so many people seem to then need intervention (my mum informed me last night that her waters broke with both me and my DB and she then needed to be induced both times, but she has literally never mentioned this before so I remain unconvinced!

Quick update from cakes is that she's still at the hospital with Leo, not yet at the MW centre. Please keep fx that they can both go home soon! Smile

xshevix · 15/01/2012 11:46

Okay, I'm just sat on the sofa baby is wriggling like mad and ive just heard 2 quite loud clicks...any ideas?

ghosteditor · 15/01/2012 11:49

Shevi, I haven't had this myself but have read about it quite a few times here on MN - never with any sinister implications, but no explanations either!

I know that waters can go with a pop, but not sure about clicking! Definitely from the baby and not from you? My joints click all the time...

xshevix · 15/01/2012 11:53

Lol it was definately baby cos I couldn't feel it just heard it and I wasn't moving...ah well if I hear it again i might ring midwife :)

ghosteditor · 15/01/2012 11:56

Oh, and in other scintillating news, my cankles are back...

xshevix · 15/01/2012 12:04

I've been quite lucky so far, no swelling any where or sickness, just aching back :-)

addictediam · 15/01/2012 12:05

We talked about this a few threads back, in my family the clicking only happens if your carrying a girl, but then someone else said its todo with the baby. sucking its thumb. There isn't a real explanation for it, but it seems harmless

xshevix · 15/01/2012 12:07

Okay :-) I am supposed to be carrying a girl 5% chance of being a boy though haha

addictediam · 15/01/2012 12:32

A friend sent me this and I've been meaning to post it.

Karmanna · 15/01/2012 13:05

Ghost, in that case I'll try the sex again! :o

Addicted thanks for the extensive list of tips. I've tried quite a few of them, but might leave the pineapple one as I read somewhere that for it to work you'd have to eat 7 whole pineapples!! Anyone know which pressure points exactly? Maybe can use this information to get DH to give me a foot or back rub! :o

Oeisha · 15/01/2012 13:08

Shock 19. Stripping the membranes..... is this really an 'at home activity'?

Got a very gently (for Abi, sometimes she's so voilent I wonder if she's got tools in there) wriggly baby today and some cramps that paracetamol hasn't eased, but no regular HBs...trying not to think anything of it as my tummy's a little off too...probably just a mild IBS attack.

addictediam · 15/01/2012 13:25

Oeisha I Hmm at that one too.

Most of them are googleable ie. Pressure points for inducing labour. There are a couple of YouTube videos showing things aswell. (galloping for induction is quite funny and dd laughs at me doing it!)

fishandlilacs · 15/01/2012 13:25

Theres a acupressure point above your inner ankle-put two fingers on your inside ankle bone, then use the width of your fingers as a measure for where the point is-basically about an inch and half above inner bone.

fishandlilacs · 15/01/2012 13:26
fishandlilacs · 15/01/2012 13:27

that video shows it really clearly.
