Hi all! Sorry for the delay! Pirate baby (still unnamed) was born at 23:33 last night! Went sooo quickly once we got going - from 6cm to being born in half an hour Shock she weighed in at 9lbs 15oz Shock Shock

Am sooo tired, haven't slept yet and DD is a good feeder. Got to wait for her US scan before going, goodness knows how long we'll be waiting!

Will catch up properly once I'm less zombie like Smile

Kayzr · 20/01/2012 10:37

Wooooooo BUN Welcome to the world PirateBaby GrinGrin

MammaInTheMaking · 20/01/2012 11:05

Congratulations Bun and Bun Family! That's amazingly quick! I hope you get the US soon.

2 babies in this thread, whoop whoop!

Carlitawantsababy · 20/01/2012 11:05

Wow bun! Congratulations! Grin fantastic news! GrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrin what a weight too Shock glad it all went quickly for you and hope you're not kept waiting too long so you can get home and have a sleep! Enjoy her! EnvyGrinGrinGrinGrin

Carlitawantsababy · 20/01/2012 11:07

How amazing ghost and bun being one day apart! Grin
What are we going to do now [twiddles thumbs] Wink

ghosteditor · 20/01/2012 12:50

Oh my word that's speedy - congratulations bun!!! SmileSmileSmileSmile

Hope you bounce back fast and you get that scan she needs really soon. We're going to brave a bath for Juliet here at the hospital - she is a lot more awake today!!

Davinaaddict · 20/01/2012 15:28

Congratulations Bun!!GrinGrinGrin I think everyone's already covered my thoughts of Shock at the weight (although I'll add [wince]), Envy at you having lovely Pirate snuggles and fx that the US is done soon. Hope you manage to catch up on a little bit of sleep soon x

Hopefully we'll have a bit of a wait before our next birth as looking at the stats list I'm next ShockGrin But still 7+1 days to go for me!

Carlitawantsababy · 20/01/2012 18:49

Exactly davina a while to go! 9 weeks today for me so there's a chance ours may be very close like bun and ghost! Smile

Davinaaddict · 21/01/2012 04:26

Owwwwwww! Woken up be cramp in one leg of both my calf and my shin, and my foot of the other leg! That was hard to stretch out Angry

Ooh yes Carlita, although I really hope DC2 doesn't make me wait an extra 16 days like DS did Smile I think I might go a bit nuts if that happens!

ghosteditor · 21/01/2012 08:05

How are you getting on Bun? Carlita and Davina, hope you're both keeping well and manage to stave off the late pg fed-up-ness!

Unfortunately we're still in hospital as my BP isn't really responding to meds and is spiking very high still. They've now doubled my dose which seems to be helping, but causes the most crippling headaches - just what a I need with a new baby and on a boiling hot noisy ward. I'm desperate to go home and am convinced I'd do better there!

Jools was less of an angel last night and just wanted to feed/be held constantly. They're officially anti co-sleeping at the NHS so I'm not supposed to have her in bed with me, but at 4am with no sleep I caved and put the bed sides up, squished myself in a corner, and put her in the middle. She's so much happier now and I've slept a bit too. Much safer than risking being squashed by an exhausted mummy who's passed out, I think...

Hopefully the review of my case won't take until 7pm today - there might be tears if I can't go home...

OP posts:
Davinaaddict · 21/01/2012 08:59

Oh ghost, what a nightmare Sad I hope it sorts itself out soon. Can you move to a private room I help with the headaches?

I remember the no co-sleeping rule well. DS point blank refused to sleep on his back from the day he was born, unless he was in bed with me, so I was a bad mummy according to the midwives Smile But having had no sleep for the 3 days before he was born, and then only broken sleep after, on between feeds, I either had to put him down to sleep on his front, or co-sleep with him on his back! Luckily I've got a very stubborn & rebellious side I have thick skin, and I knew sleep was necessary for us both, so he was in bed with me whilst we were in hospital, then on his front in his basket when we got home. Even now he very rarely sleeps on his back, but then I always sleep on my side too. Mummy knows best IMHO. Fingers crossed, today is the day you escape Smile ThanksBear

Carlitawantsababy · 21/01/2012 14:17

Sorry to hear that ghost, I really hope you get to go home soon, from my recent experience with my Sis I am well aware that labour wards are not conducive to recovery! Sad

elliebug · 21/01/2012 14:38

i dont know ladies, i got to work for 2 days and another baby arrives :o
however, i have had 2 really rubbish days involving crying in cubicles and very poorly babies so i needed some good news :o
ghost and bun hope you are both home soon with snuggly well behaved babies :)

Carlitawantsababy · 21/01/2012 15:11

Why ellie? What's been going on?

ghosteditor · 21/01/2012 16:35

Thanks Davina - I do indeed feel like I could be trusting my instincts more - I've read the books and know what's dangerous, but I need to get to know my baby now too. She really doesn't want to be alone at the moment!

Right now I'm dreaming of a big salt bath and some real food with actual nutritional value! Just about to be seen so keep fx for me!

OP posts:
ghosteditor · 21/01/2012 16:54

Nope... Not going home... Sad

OP posts:
elliebug · 21/01/2012 17:41

ghost that sucks, fingers crossed for tomorrow.
carlita i just realised that my post may have sounded a little dramatic! my job involves looking after poorly babies/children. they have been extra poorly recently and that combined with lots of social services liasoning(?!) made me stressed and emotional. better now :) am hoping the weather will be sunny soon as that seems to mean less poorly people. ah well only 3 months to go :o

Carlitawantsababy · 21/01/2012 17:51

Glad you're okay ellie
Sad ghost sorry to hear that! Ignore the rules and the midwives and spend one with your gorgeous girl however you feel is best. Smile thinking of you.

Davinaaddict · 21/01/2012 22:14

Oh bugger, I was really hoping they'd have let you out by now ghost Sad And good on you for starting to trust your instincts more. As you say, you've read the books so you're making an informed decision on what's right for you and your beautiful baby. And of course, no-one tells the babies to read the books Grin Are you getting some rest during the day at all? When I was cooped up, DH spent all his visiting hours doing everything for DS, whilst I slept, and he just woke me up at feeding time. It really helped me to catch up on some rest even if I did feel a bit like a cowGrin. And we were lucky, in that he could visit for 12 hours at a time, so it made coping with the night times much easier to handle.

Wow ellie I really admire you for doing a job that entails all that. I'm an emotional wreck even when I'm not pregnant, so I couldn't do it. Glad you're feeling better after a tough few days.

My baby is apparently the size of a pineapple today - then why do I look like I'm smuggling a beach ball?!? Grin Am soooo tired at the moment. DS seems to be having bad dreams so is waking up lots, crying his little heart out Sad And it's his 2nd birthday tomorrow, so we've had a busy day going for a nice lunch and then a visit to Tropical World, which he seemed to enjoy. Tomorrow will be a nice lazy day I think Smile Just dropping my sister off at the train station, then a visit from SIL so she can drop off presents. Then I think we'll shut ourselves away from the world and enjoy the family time together -bliss Smile

aBundanceOfTime · 22/01/2012 00:12

Hi everyone!

Ghost so sorry to hear you're still in hospital, we were there for nearly 24hours and I was getting cabin fever! Hope your out of there really soon. At least you have your little Juliet to keep you smiling (and awake!). Smile Absolutely gorgeous name!

Pirate now has a name too - Elizabeth Rose (currently a Lilly) Smile

Well, the paediatricians that were supposed to be doing the scan on DD ended up too busy so instead we'll be getting an appointment through to come back for it. I didn't mind too much as a paediatrician did a check over not long after her birth and says he's happy with her; plus they were too busy because they had to go into theatre, so clearly that's more important. Took them 4 hours from knowing this to actually discharge us though Angry was really missing DS!

We got home at 6.30pm yesterday and it has been lovely. DS is being wonderful despite realising that babies are actually pretty boring Smile DD has got a wonderful temperament and has hardly cried - obviously won't last Grin

I feel like a car crash victim though, such a fast birth has definitely taken it's toll on my poor body. Very happy though Smile

Carlitawantsababy · 22/01/2012 10:09

davina Grin at the beach ball!
bun that's great that you are home! Elizabeth Rose is a beautiful name! Can you put a snap up at some stage? I'm sure you're very busy right now! Hope you are managing to get some rest too.
ghost how are things going today? Is little Juliet still feeding well and did you have a better night? Smile

ghosteditor · 22/01/2012 10:41

Hi bun, so glad you're home! I'm recovering well but coughing still feels very odd!

I'm about a million times better since the lovely MWs moved me to a side room - it's so much quieter and cooler here, and I actually slept! About to nap again now too...

I just want to get on with our new lives really - I am normally a very active person so four days on the ward with no where to be except bed is very depressing for me. Juliet seems to want to feed almost continually from about midnight to 3am but then sleeps well for a few hours - and in my new room I can sleep then too!

Fx I may get home with some medication today - I will be fighting hard for this as I feel like the monitoring could go on forever!

OP posts:
aBundanceOfTime · 22/01/2012 15:28

Happy birthday to Davina's DS! Hope you're all having a nice day Smile

Oh Ghost the coughing is terrifying isn't it! I've had stitches so it feels very threatening Grin

Fantastic that you've got a side room! Everything crossed that today is your day. I felt exactly as you described after one day there, not sure how I'd be after four! Enjoy your rest Smile

DD if feeding really well during the day and then completely forgetting how to do it over night, we finally fell asleep at 6am through to 9, then 11 this morning. Interesting. Grin

Oh yes, pictures are up! One very new newborn pic and one with DS - she looks massive in that one, it was a very unflattering sleepsuit Grin

ghosteditor · 22/01/2012 16:40

I had some stitches too - the anaesthetic was the worst bit really as you just want your baby and everything is so tender and then you get stuck with needles [wince]. I braved a look at my, ahem, undercarriage yesterday and it's not too bad really, apart from where I tore a bit.

Also, being able to bend and pick things up off the floor= awesome Grin

Sadly I'm not going home today - having stopped my meds they've decided that yes, I do need to be on the medication, but they want to see how i'll react (um... Like i did when I started taking it four days ago Angry). However since my little distressed chat yesterday the staff have been extraordinarily wonderful and lovely, and I saw the registrar at midday (not the resident at 7pm), she explained carefully, the head midwife is dealing with my care, and to round it all off they've moved us to a huge family room with an ensuite and big sofa for DH to sleep on. They've been thoroughly lovely. Smile

So, fx tomorrow is the day!!!

OP posts:
Davinaaddict · 22/01/2012 16:57

Thanks Bun We're having a very chilled day today - DS is FULL of cold so his nose is running pretty much permanently, he keeps coughing and has a bit of a croaky voice Sad But that's not stopping him playing with all his lovely toys Smile Our front room is quickly turning into the fire station at Pontypandy! But I don't mind really. Tomorrow should be fun though - he got bought a battery operated ride on train set from Grandma, so I've to set it up tonight (it takes 12 hours to charge). No doubt that he'll be going round and round the kitchen tomorrow Grin Glad you've managed to escape Bun - beautiful name and photos too! Great news that she's doing well and they're happy to let you both out with an appointment to come back at a later date.

Great news about your side room ghost Glad you're managing some rest and FX that they get you sorted out soon so you can go home Smile Here are some virtual Thanks for your room to brighten it up.
