Oh Davina That is great, the surgeon sounds brilliant. I will keep sending you labour vibes.

I feel a little silly after yesterday. Baby has been pretty much non stop all day.

DS1 is 5 tomorrow. This time 5 years ago I was starting to get contractions, how is my baby so grown up?

I am now about to attempt to make an airplane cake. He is insisting on an Airbus A380 plane. Eeek

ghosteditor · 19/03/2012 12:40

davina I'm so Grin Grin Grin on your behalf - you sounded so upset that I'm delighted that you got a sensible surgeon. And the monitoring should keep you and the medical team reassured about the baby's health. Yeys!!!

elliebug · 19/03/2012 12:50

Davina that's great, I'm so glad it worked out for you GrinGrin
Kayzr good luck, I once made a spyro the dragon cake for my brother, im sure you'll do better than I did Smile

babybrain3 · 19/03/2012 13:06

Yay davina!!!! really pleased for you!!! Ditto what everyone else said!!!

We've made our news public now-told our families over the weekend, and work today.. Really pleased to have it all out in the open now!!

MammaInTheMaking · 19/03/2012 13:18

Fabulous news Davina. That's really great. Phsychologically that's going to be such a boost to you and probably make your body much more relaxed and 'favourable' towards labour (if that makes any sense). hehe at your DH offering to bonk!!

Had my 28 week app today and i'm being referred back to midwife-led care now because everything is fine. Am super happy about it because i'm yet to see the same midwife/consultant/Dr twice. Will bring a bit more continuity to the 3rd trimester :) Still not hearing much of a heartbeat because it moves to much. Ah well :) My veins refused to cooperate and had 3 lots of needles stuck in my arms to get some blood. Worked eventually though :)

Good luck with the cake Kayzr that sounds very ambitious!!

How are things going with you Trope?

TroubleAndFyfe · 19/03/2012 13:57

Great news mamma! Grin
Good luck kayzr! Photos of the result please! Grin

Kayzr · 19/03/2012 13:59

It is already a disaster. I can not find my rolling pin. How do you lose a rolling pin? My Mum luckily is bringing one round.

TroubleAndFyfe · 19/03/2012 15:21

Grin garden? (makeshift rounders bat?)

MammaInTheMaking · 19/03/2012 16:04

pringles tin!
I use my rolling pin to bang poppers into bibs so it doesn't live in the kitchen!

TroubleAndFyfe · 19/03/2012 18:24

You can get poppers you bang in rather than sew on mamma? That's interesting, are they a bit more hard wearing than the sew on kind?

MammaInTheMaking · 19/03/2012 20:22

Yeah, the bang on poppers are way better than the sew on ones. John Lewis sell them but I got mine on eBay in bulk. It's just 2 metal disks which have pointy teeth. Put the fabric in between and then bang them together Grin very satisfying though noisy! I think they're called Press Studs?

TroubleAndFyfe · 20/03/2012 00:38

Ah ha! I will purchase and experiment, thank you! Grin my rolling pin is glass though so will go for rubber camping mallet! Grin

Kayzr · 20/03/2012 06:17

I have my GTT this morning. I am really dreading it Sad

babybrain3 · 20/03/2012 08:12

Good luck kayzr hope it goes ok..

elliebug · 20/03/2012 09:18

Good luck kayzr I'm at hosp this afternoon too, let's hope they let me leave this time!! I've been very well behaved Grin honest!

foolserrand · 20/03/2012 09:22

Good morning ladies, babies and bumps! Hope everyone is dandy. Its a sunny day here so I'm in an uncharacteristically good mood. :o

Kayzr, I'm off to give a blood sample this morning too. Mine will be a piece of cake though compared to the way you lot have described the gtt. Still, I'll be thinking of you. It's probably too late now, but last time I lost my rolling pin, I used a wine bottle.
Blush

ellie, really thrilled you're home! Scary how shockingly shit some people are at their jobs though.

Davina, ds and I had a dance and cheer for you yesterday. He was blissfully oblivious as to why mummy was jumping round happily but content to join in regardless! I'm thrilled you spoke to someone who listened and understood. If only everyone were lucky enough to deal with professionals like her.

Trouble, Fyfe is gorgeous! Like the piercing too :o

Bun that's rotten news about your friend. I assume you've considered the other options, like flying to Ireland then renting a boat and rowing?

Does anyone else get to suffer the joys of fireman Sam yet? I swear that whole fucking town deserves a Darwin award. Not much to report here, dh slipped up a few weeks ago and snapped at ds for dripping a bit on the carpet while using his potty and he then regressed. I can say 100% today that he is back on form. No more panic attacks, accidents or withholding things... phew! Dh is the most relieved, he's felt awful about it for over a month. It's amazing how the smallest thing can have such huge affect on our little people.

Have convinced dh that bum genius nappies are the way to go. We will, however, opt for disposables initially while we get used to 2 etc.

Found out the guy who laid our floor was a total cowboy. Big gaps everywhere, threshold strips aren't stuck down or even cut to the correct size. Luckily, he plays golf at the club where my dad is captain so I'm cheating and have played the helpless daughter card. Further bad news, my new footstool from Dfs is faulty and needs to go back.

What furniture, if any, did you guys choose for your nurseries? Am trying to find a wardrobe and chest of drawers and keep falling in love with stupidly expensive items. To be fair, I think anything would feel expensive to us right now, still recovering from the extension bleeding us dry!

Got my third midwife appointment tomorrow and we hit 35 weeks on Thursday. I really need to pull my finger out and get ready for this child. We only have a few vests, sleepsuits and 1 little dress. Have rescued some unisex clothes from ds, so hoping we will have enough.

Ok, this has taken ages to write as I'm on my phone and dealing with a 3 yr old horse, but I need to catapult him into clothes before the dogs try to lick his backside again. Have a great day all!

Kayzr · 20/03/2012 09:43

Fools we have everything Fireman Sam here. DS2 loves it. His 'uncle' is a fireman too.

I have just had the first test and the horrid drink. She said I could go home if I promised to sit on the sofa and do nothing at all. I am not going to argue with that.

Pics of cake are on profile.

TroubleAndFyfe · 20/03/2012 10:10

Love the cake kayzr! Grin glad the hospital let you home!
fools, thanks! I grew the bum genius nappies are excellent! We were getting fed up of our bummis ones leaking all the time, going through 5 wraps and as many changes of clothes in a day so ordered some bum genius flips and they are amazing, only one has arrived as they were out of stock in the colours I wanted and he's been in it constantly since it arrived on Friday lunchtime, without a single leak of course. Pretty impressive though hope the others arrive soon! Smile
You're nearly there already fools, when was your first born? We didn't get any nursery specific furniture (well, a cot) but have a chest of drawers that a friend gave us when she moved that we are going to paint for Fyfe and there's a lovely little bookcase in the garden of our new house which we'll paint for him too.
Hope it goes well for you ellie! Smile

ghosteditor · 20/03/2012 10:43

Yey that's good news kayzr!

We're using the Flip system and it's very good. We only have 14 liners but that seems to be enough for two days then a late night wash and air dry over a radiator rack, and we've only had one leak (it was poomaggeddon though). I will pick up more eventually. We're using the stay dry insert despite my initial reservations as the organic cotton pre folds are massively bulky on newborns. I think they'll be good for night nappies later on though.

Furniture - we bought a cot which DD isn't using yet and we had a chest of drawers. She won't need a wardrobe for ages as her clothes are far too little to hang! Our most useful items are a borrowed bassinet and stand for downstairs day time naps and the bednest, which is legend and ensures I get a good night's sleep!

OP posts:
TroubleAndFyfe · 20/03/2012 12:05

We're using them with pre folds, using fan fold and nappy nippas, perfect combo, they are quite bulky I guess but I like the big baby bum look! Grin

aBundanceOfTime · 20/03/2012 12:13

Fantastic news Davina! So happy for you Smile

Fools, we've done Fireman Sam and moved on to Thomas the Tank Engine - it's a major obsession atm! Going for a ride on the steam trains for his birthday so he may be a little bit excited Grin
Bless your DH, I've done the same with a poo + carpet incident, felt awful afterwards. It's so easy when you're having a bad day though. Glad your DS is back on track Smile My DS is too, yesterday he took himself off for a poo in the potty without any fuss, just came to tell me afterwards which is a massive deal for him because he was freaking out about #2's out of his nappy. We had a 'Poo Party'! No poo was involved in said party btw, just cake, orange juice and a pom pom war Grin

Cute cake Kayzr, bet he loved that Grin Hope your gtt went ok.

Things going great with DD! She's so much more content on bottles oddly enough. I think it's because she was using me as a dummy (part of the reason why I started expressing) and it was a bit of a nightmare, she now has a dummy to go to bed at night and is a dream! She never slept in her cot for more than an hour and usually woke when we put her down but now with the dummy, we put her down at 11pm and she sleeps through until 6:30!! Then I slide her into bed for a BF and snuggles with DS and she sleeps until 9, another BF (DS and I get up) and she sleeps until 12 (just waking now)!! She's like a different baby!

ghosteditor · 20/03/2012 13:13

Trouble - it's not the bulkiness I object to exactly, but with girls the fold goes at the back, so poor DD had a two inch thick wedge at the top of her nappy and I thought it might be uncomfortable at the back! If we use the organic prefolds now we fold a bit at the front and a bit at the back and it's not so bad Smile

OP posts:
Kayzr · 20/03/2012 13:20

Bun we also have Thomas here. DS2 loves Fireman Sam and Thomas. I blame the railway because we can hear steam trains from the house all summer Grin

With DS1 he had his cot, a chest of drawers with a changer on top and a wardrobe. In complete PFBness I had to have a wardrobe with his outfits in. That was until I realised how fiddly it is to get baby clothes onto hangers Blush

The gtt went well. I don't know when I will find out the results but the nurse thinks that the MW should have them by next Thursday for my appointment.

TroubleAndFyfe · 20/03/2012 14:49

ghost my sister uses the second fold 'in thirds' here: www.angelfire.com/id/megnkatesplace/folds.html with her girls, there's no bulky area, completely even. They are formula fed though, didn't work for us with explosive breast milk poo! Confused

foolserrand · 20/03/2012 15:52

Thanks all! Ds has a wardrobe and chest of drawers, has done since birth. But ds will a much smaller room so don't want to fill it with unnecessary furniture. Those of you with girls who don't have a wardrobe, where do the dresses go? I'm turning into a bit of a girly girl I think.Blush Fell in love with the sweetheart range from aspace, thus proving my point even further. Am now trying to recreate that furniture for a fraction of the price. It's not going well!

Oh, I stuck a thread up in baby names if anyone feels like going and having a nose offering some advice or a slap! :o

Will be back later when I'm not busy weeping into my phone for no damned reason! Gah.
