X posts mamma sounds like a lovely weekend, Greenwich is particularly lovely in the sunshine! Nice to hear you sounding so happy. Yes, the cheeks are lovely, so soft and kissable! Grin

Davinaaddict · 12/03/2012 15:21

Gorgeous photos Carlita He is a real cutie Smile I love the one with his little foot sticking out Grin

I'd be happy to come do some cleaning but might be a bit of a trek from Yorkshire Grin

Sorry you've had such a rubbish morning Kayzr Sad Sounds like the right answer on the GTT front, although rubbish about it being on your DS's birthday.

Sounds like a lovely weekend Mamma Smile

So I've been for my appointment and it started off well. He was all ready for booking my appointment For my CS at term + 13 (they only do emergencies on a weekend, so we were looking at the Friday before). But because it's so busy the latest they could book us in for is next Monday Sad So term plus 9, which doesn't really give us much time Sad. I've got an appointment on Thursday to talk to Everyman and his dog the anaesthetist, the physio and the theatre nurse. It could be up to a 3 hour appointment Shock

Then for the CS app I'm not allowed to eat from midnight on Sunday until after I have the CS! I'll be famished if it's a late op! But hopeful it won't be, as I've got to be there for 7am on Monday Confused

Needless to say, I'll be keeping very busy going for long walks, scrubbing floors & eating loads of spicy things etc in the hope that baby decides to appear before Monday morning. Get your pom poms out girls Grin

Kayzr · 12/03/2012 15:27

Davina I hope you can avoid the CS. With DS2 before I was even overdue they had given a CS date. It was the day before Christmas eve. So I was dying to get him out before then.

Carlitawantsababy · 12/03/2012 16:55

davina were they totally against booking for the following Monday? It's silly really, placentas don't implode at 42 weeks! In France they count 42 weeks as term. Maybe that RLT will work out for you!Wink

aBundanceOfTime · 12/03/2012 17:41

Pom poms at the ready Davina! Grin What bad luck that that's the latest they can do it, hope it doesn't come to that. But, if it does, you'll have your gorgeous baby at that end of it so it's still fab Smile
Add to that list lots of stairs, bouncing on birth ball if you have one, sex if you have the inclination (nipple stimulation is apparently helpful too for some reason), maybe some star jumps... Wink FX for you.

Oh Carlita, Fyfe is gorgeous! Lovely picture of the two of you together too Smile

Sorry, I've missed lots, feeling rather drained the last week or so. The constant being in demand with bf Lilly and then when I'm not bf Lilly I'm having to either look after DS or catch up with housework is beginning to take it's toll. DP has tried giving her bottles of expressed bm but she was beginning to get nipple confusion so had to stop Sad Have heard good things about Nuk bottles being great for switching between the two so have ordered one to give it a go. If that doesn't work I'm thinking that I might just move on to expressed bm completely, I'm just not enjoying it and feel really trapped esp with 7pm-1am cluster feeding (does that sound like an awful thing to say? Sad)
I expressed with DS for 4months despite starting before my milk had come in properly (gave up excruciating bf at 2weeks) so think I'll be ok going on until Lilly's at least 6months. Am able to hand express 5oz in about 15-20mins so that's good, might order a pump to see if that speeds things up too, we'll see...
Feel guilty for not enjoying it, when it's something we're supposedly programmed to enjoy!

Kayzr · 12/03/2012 17:45

Davina Don't go down the pineapple route. Its meant to take 7 whole fresh pineapples before it has an affect. Plus you are more likely to be throwing up than actually go into labour.

Bun I have heard the Tommee Tippee bottles are meant to be good for swapping between the 2 as well. Don't feel guilty about it. Especially if you are planning to express until she is 6 months. I don't think I would have the patience for that.

ghosteditor · 12/03/2012 18:14

Nice work with Fyfe carlita - I have a chubby chops DD too, she's over 11lbs now!

Davinaaddict · 12/03/2012 20:51

Thanks ladies. I did ask about booking in on the following Monday but he wouldn't even consider it Angry I know what you mean though Carlita It is bonkers! I'm hoping if I do last until Monday, that the hospital will be heaving and I'll get bumped, as I'll (hopefully) be the lowest priority. In the meantime, lots of looooong walks, up & down stairs and bouncing on the ball, is what I've got planned for this week as I'll have nothing better to do Sad Think I'll stay of the pineapple though - thanks Kayzr I'm not a big fan of fresh pineapple anyway so would have been really miffed if I'd forced some down to no effect Grin

Sorry you're having a bad time Bun. It must be hard not to feel guilty but do try not to. If your not enjoying it, I think its likely that Lilly isn't as well. Although I don't really want to quote the cliched 'Happy mummy, happy baby', I do believe that if you're upset/stressing out, that children do pick up on it. And that expressing is amazing! I expressed when I went back to work last time, and the most I EVER got was 7 oz in one go, and that was with a hand pump and took aaaaages ! I second the Tommee Tippee bottles - they were brilliant for DS, and he never had nipple confusion. Although, we didn't use them with him until he was about 12 weeks I think. and I used the silicon nipple shields for weeks, which may also have helped with the lack of confusion.

Carlitawantsababy · 13/03/2012 03:20

Hope the tricks work davina!
Don't feel guilty bun, you don't have to enjoy it to be a great mum, you're saying you're going to express which is pretty amazing. It does sound like you're very good at it Shock, it won't matter to Lilly how you deliver it!
Nice one ghost on your big baby!
I'm having lots of pain bf which is Sad as I want to enjoy it too, most important thing is that it is clearly working out for Fyfe but I'm sure there's something up with his latch or he has a tongue tie as it always hurts and frequently makes me cry/cry out with pain. He was checked for tongue tie at birth and have had latch checked a few times by midwife who says it looks great, I've left a message for local bf councillor who I hope will come and help me. Tricky thing is every book and website tells you it should not hurt but every person I know tells me it does hurt for a while and you have to get used to it..I don't know what to believe?

ghosteditor · 13/03/2012 07:35

Sorry to hear that about bfing Carlita Sad. I've had a couple of momentary painful latches but generally bfing doesn't hurt me at all - you do need to get it checked out until you find the problem, poor you.

babybrain3 · 13/03/2012 08:24

Hope you find a way carlita I got really sore nipples when I was bf....it hurt sooo much!! But it doesn't last forever, I'm sure it will sort itself out soon for you. ?

Ive got my booking appt today with the midwife, finally!!! I'm quite excited-hope she enlightens me on when my scan will be!! ?????

Davinaaddict · 13/03/2012 08:24

Sorry to hear you're having troubles Carlita It's not necessarily true that if you're experiencing pain, that anything's wrong though. Have you got the mumsnet book on babies? That's got lots of helpful tips in it. I'm not sure if she's still around, but have a search for TikTok on the Feed The World board - she was giving out loads of great advice when DS was born.

Also, I found the first 2 weeks excruciating (bleeding nips, the works), so DH went and bought some of the silicon nipple shields in desperation, and they were brilliant. Took away the pain & allowed my nips to heal. They were a bit of a pain, in that they needed sterilising all the time so I ended up with about 6 sets so I always had a clean set ready to go. But easier than bottles. It took me a long time to get off them (about 14 weeks in total I think), but thanks to them I bf for a whole year Smile I'm not exactly sure why it was so painful for me either as everything was checked as fine etc. I believe it was just that DS had a small mouth - I know it sounds a bit mad, but he was fine once he got bigger Grin And he's certainly making up for it now both in noise and stuffing his face Grin

Davinaaddict · 13/03/2012 08:25

Hope the appointment goes well babybrain Smile

Carlitawantsababy · 13/03/2012 08:57

Thanks everyone. No davina, I don't have that book but have read so much and nothing helps Sad why would it be so painful if nothing wrong? I have some shields which I use in an emergency if I just can't bear it- about once a day. TikTok is still around, I've read most of the threads on feed the world, I know how to position and latch him in theory and midwife said it looked great, just bloody hurts. Obviously he's getting lots of milk as has gained lots of weight do it can't be very wrong! Hope something is wrong so it can be fixed! Good to know it got better for some of you and really good to know it never hurt you ghost, I was starting to wonder whether the books and websites say it doesn't so it didn't put people off!
Hope it goes well babybrain!

Davinaaddict · 13/03/2012 11:00

Poor you Sad I didn't understand why it hurt either - I spent so long trying to justify it. I think it's probably back to old saying of every baby & mum experience is different. And it can hurt! But that doesn't always mean anything is wrong, either with you or with baby. I agree - it seems to be almost a propaganda against informing people that it can hurt, just to try and get mums to do it for as long as possible. Do they not realise that actually, we are perfectly capable of making informed decisions?! Grin Seriously though, I really hope you manage to find a solution to it - it will get better if you decide you are going to soldier through Thanks

Carlitawantsababy · 13/03/2012 11:31

Thanks davina, I'm definitely sticking with it! Got the NCT breastfeeding counsellor coming at 5 today, heard from lots of people that she's amazing. Had quite a long phone call with her and she thinks he may have a tongue tie or a high palate. The high palate causes them not to be able to get the nipple far enough back but gets better as they grow - sounds like what you had davina! He was checked for tongue tie at birth but some are posterior and harder to find, both my sister's reins had them and my mum thinks my sister did too. That's what I'm hoping it is because you get instant relief after the tie is snipped whereas with the palate problem you just have to stick with it. I am determined and will stick with it whatever happens but it'd be lovely to find a solution! Smile

aBundanceOfTime · 13/03/2012 11:50

Thanks ladies Smile it's the Tommee Tippee ones we were using.
Carlita, I was the same with Lilly, after the first week we had the latch sorted but it was still really painful for another week or so after. Very interesting what the breastfeeding counsellor said about high palates, DS's (crap) health visitor said it was good for breastfeeding! Angry Lilly has it too so it seems I may finally have an explanation, thanks!

Really hope you get things sorted, or at least some answers today, it's horrible dreading each feed because of the pain.

Good news - I've just booked our wedding!! 24th August, our 10 year anniversary. Am so Grin Grin

aBundanceOfTime · 13/03/2012 12:12

I'm already nervous!! Shock

Kayzr · 13/03/2012 12:26

Bun That is brilliant news!!! I am so happy for you. I have just 23 days til my wedding. I am terrified I really am, despite this being my second.

Carlita I really hope the BF counsellor is very helpful later today.

I have just had a super duper email. DP's ship is towing a rig around the pacific ocean in the next few weeks. The company don't want to risk him being stuck at sea and therefore miss our wedding. SO they are letting him get of the ship early. Only a few days early but that means he'll be home a few days early!!! Grin

Davinaaddict · 13/03/2012 12:49

Fingers crossed for your app this afternoon Carlita - would be really interesting to hear all about it! Ps are you thinking of changing your name now you have your lovely squishy baby? Grin

Congratulations Bun! Lots of planning to do now Smile Tell all about your plans Grin

And I can't believe that yours has come round so quick Kayzr Are you all organised now? Fabulous news about your DP coming home early too Smile

So I'm having a really lazy day today Grin First day in the house on my own when I'm not working, so making the most of it Smile Back to trying to evict the baby tomorrow I think Grin

Kayzr · 13/03/2012 12:54

Davina Yeah pretty much all done now.

I know how to evict your baby. You need your DH to have to have an important meeting at work. I went into labour when XH had a meeting at work. Everyone said I would go into labour then too.

Davinaaddict · 13/03/2012 13:26

Bugger - that won't work as he's been on wind down for about a week Wink I even mentioned to him about having to work a bit extra this week to cover for the half day he's likely to use on Thursday but he says he doesn't need to as he's pretty up to date!

Carlitawantsababy · 13/03/2012 14:33

Aw, you guys really make me smile, I love our little group

Congrats bun and kayzr, 2 lots of lovely news!
NCT woman cancelled and re booked for first thing tomorrow morning which made me cry! Sad was really hoping to get help. I keep being asked if I've tried different positions and I have but tbh don't keep pursuing as I want to be able to feed him in a cradle hold as want to be able to go out and have a life not have to feed whilst naked and balancing DS on his head or whatever! I will try again next feed but the awkward holds just wind us both up - sorry for the whinge! Anyway, just been to the bumps and babies group and one of the nurses there has spoken to my health visitor about it for me who is going to bring the contacts for making a referral to a tongue tie specialist midwife so that's a step in the right direction even if it just rules it out that would be helpful. Apart from the pain I'm loving every minute so will be very happy once it's sorted! Smile

Carlitawantsababy · 13/03/2012 15:17

Oh yes, was thinking of changing my name, any suggestions? Grin

Davinaaddict · 13/03/2012 17:13

Aw, that's so sweet Grin Shame about the NCT lady, but I'm sure she'll be worth the wait, and it's only a few extra hours (easy to say, I know). You did make me giggle with your 'not have to feed naked and balancing DS on his head', I'm afraid! Remember he's only going to be 2 weeks tomorrow, so there's loads of time to get it sorted. And great to get a referral to a specialist as well.

I'm probably not the right person to ask for a name suggestions, seeing as I was supposed to be sorting one for me before Christmas BlushHmm and I still haven't come up with one that is witty and appropriate! Grin I'd probably suggest something slightly ridiculous like CarlitahasagorgeoussmooshyDS Grin

I can't believe it's got to gone 5pm and I've done absolutely bugger all, all day! Grin
