Kayzr · 10/02/2012 13:15

That's brilliant Carlita Grin

I apparently have a banana. But the baby is meant to be 27cm long. That's a big bloody banana!!! Grin

babybrain3 · 10/02/2012 16:44

I'm laughing at your guiness book of records sized banana kayzr?

Carlitawantsababy · 10/02/2012 17:03

Hahaha kayzr wonders-ofthe-world.blogspot.com/2009/03/worlds-largest-banana.html
Hiya bun! Lily sounds just gorgeous. Planning on carrying my little one everywhere too. Grin

Kayzr · 10/02/2012 17:05
Grin

Love it!!

babybrain3 · 10/02/2012 20:28

Brilliant!!! ?

Davinaaddict · 11/02/2012 10:12

Hi ladies - sorry I've been MIA all week. Work is mental at the moment, but hopefully will slowdown after this next week. And if not, then tough, as I'll be slowing down anyway Grin

Gorgeous scan pic Kayzr And I'm really glad your little girl decided to play ball this time! Smile Love the banana comments/link too Grin Reminds me of a photo I saw on fbook the other day where a supermarket had labelled them 'long yellow things' Grin Banana was clearly too difficult to spell!

Good to hear about you getting the option of an early scan babybrain although I'm surprised this would take the place of a dating scan. Can they determine accurate age if they do it much before 11/12 weeks?

Sorry to hear about all your traumas fools Sounds like you're going through the mill a bit Sad I can relate to the worry about your DS though. Mine came back from his Grans the other day with a huge gash and an egg like bump on his head Hmm It was an accident and nobody could have stopped it and his own fault as he was all giddy cos he was tired out but that doesn't stop you worrying. Hope your DS is feeling better now.

Yay for less than 4 months to go Mamma. It doesn't seem like 2 minutes since you got your BFP Grin

Fingers crossed you get a better pscan pic next time ellie Smile When I had one done at 32 weeks baby was just too big to get a good one, so I know how you feel Sad

Yay for 34 weeks Carlita Ive got a Crenshaw Melon today at 36 weeks and I have no idea what a Crenshaw Melon is Grin Fantastic news about moving too!

So I had my consultant app this week, which was really interesting Hmm We went through DS's birth and found out loads. The most enlightening bit was that he was back to back all the way through my labour. No-one mentioned that once throughout the whole 18 or so hours, so I was really Angry about that. Mainly because a) my consultant said that if they had checked that first, then they wouldn't/shouldn't have broken my waters (he had no extra room to turn round once they'd gone) and b) had I have known then I could have been trying to get him to turn by being more active etc. As it was, most of the time I was there, I was pretty much strapped to the bed on the monitor, and waiting around to be seen. But apparently he turned part way late on, then got his head in an awkward position, hence the c section. Frustratingly, I progressed well with the induction, and had I been encouraged to move around more/ change positions etc, I might not have needed the CS. I only had the drip to counteract the epidural (which usually slows things down apparently). And the way my notes were written, it also makes out that having pethedine was my idea - I didn't want it, but in DH's words I was rail roaded into it Angry So not good really! But I did learn loads and we now have a great birth plan for this one, as well as me being much clearer in what both DH and I need to say & do. My consultant also wrote my plan in my book for me as we were discussing. She was brilliant and was really listened to what we both wanted. So my plan now is to have a water birth at the hospital, with telemetric monitoring and pain relief on my say so. And I can go over 40weeks and request an ELCS instead of induction (I'm booked in to see the obstetrician at 40+2 to discuss) All in all, one happy bunny! Grin Oh and baby's not breech either Grin

Hope everyone's enjoying their weekend Smile

ghosteditor · 11/02/2012 13:03

We're big fans of the Kari Me sling here - v similar to the Moby I think. I went to a baby wearing workshop the other day which was quite interesting: picked up a few refinements for the carry and decided that I do like my stretchy wrap sling more than the woven slings. And also discovered that despite having the youngest baby there, DH and I are much more laid back parents than most others Grin.

Davina, sounds like a really productive meeting with the consultant, and how frustrating that they advised you so badly the first time around. There's nothing worse than being flat on your back for the baby's positioning and to slow down the birth. Even if you need monitoring (which I did in the end due to my BP) you can be in better positions, and they can switch to a clip on the baby's head once you start pushing! Hope it goes much better this time Smile.

DD and I had a great night last night so I'm very cheery! We slept a lot over the 12 hours we stayed in bed Smile.

Hope everyone else is doing well too!

Just a quick post to say I have a banana too and if I remember rightly I'm a month ahead of you kayzr Confused will try and do a proper post later, promise Smile

Carlitawantsababy · 12/02/2012 10:10

Hi all, I have a large cantaloupe, it's funny at this stage as he's so solid I can just squeeze my bump and feel exactly how big he is, getting so exciting now, DH and I keep having lots of soppy discussions about how much we love him already! Grin
Re slings, I have a ring sling which I have been using a lot with my nieces, it is great for around the house when one of them falls asleep on me as I can put the along over my head, stick an arm through then position the fabric to support them without waking them and carry on the cuddles hands free (even at 10 weeks they make your arms ache relatively quickly!) that was exactly what I bought it for, that and quick chucking them in a sling to pop out for some milk etc. so pleased it's working out. I also have a wrap sling which I haven't used yet as it's packed. It's essentially the same as a kari-me or moby wrap, just unbranded. It's a slightly stretchy one (which I think is an option with the branded ones) which is supposed to be great when they're little but you want a non stretchy for when they are heavier. It is just a very long rectangle of fabric, it's tied in the same way as the others (are they at all shaped or just rectangles ghost and bun) I like it that our thread is rather lentil weaving with lots of baby wearing planned! Grin
davina I would be Angry too at what happened, so glad you have a plan for the next one. It's shocking how hard you have to work for a natural birth...
What did you decide in the raspberry leaf tea in the end? I'm also going to start taking evening primrose capsules (500mg 3 x a day) from 36 weeks as recommended in the water birth book - said to be helpful in ripening the cervix. Not sure what guidance there would be for you re that. Smile

Carlitawantsababy · 12/02/2012 10:18

Re evening primrose oil www.pregnanthealth.com/evening-primrose-oil/ there's more than one way to take it apparently Blush

Kayzr · 12/02/2012 10:20

I had a cantaloupe melon last week! Its a bit strange this fruit thing.

Carlitawantsababy · 12/02/2012 10:23

And another if you're interested www.maternitycorner.com/mcmag/articles/preg0007.html I'm going to start taking it today then seeing as they both suggest 34 weeks! Grin

Carlitawantsababy · 12/02/2012 10:25

That's very odd kayzr! It's a bit silly isn't it..this one is a large cantaloupe but you'd have thought she could branch out beyond fruit and veg if there are not ones of useful representative size?!

Kayzr · 12/02/2012 10:28

I get mine from the mothercare emails.

elliebug · 12/02/2012 12:08

Slight confession, I have a cucumber not a bananaBlush ah baby brain Smile

Carlitawantsababy · 12/02/2012 14:09

Ah, I see, we're using different green grocers! Mine are from 'what to expect when you're expecting' app. Grin

Davinaaddict · 12/02/2012 14:10

I chickened out of taking the RLT just yet - might start at 37 weeks, just in case it happens to bring my labour on Blush I know it's not supposed to, but I don't feel quite ready just yet Smile That way at least it's still got (hopefully) 3 weeks to do its magic.

I've read a bit about EPO too - didn't really fancy putting it up there though!

I get my fruit/veg from Babycentre Smile

Davinaaddict · 12/02/2012 19:01

I just won a tens machine on ebay for under a tenner Grin

Plus DH has dug out DS's old moses basket - feels like we're getting somewhere near organised!

Kayzr · 12/02/2012 19:10

Carlita I have just downloaded that app and mine is a spaghetti squash. Whatever one of those is anyway Grin

Davina Yay for Tens machine and getting out the moses basket.

I feel like death. I have a headache and sore throat and I want to cry. I really just want to go to bed and stay there for a few days. But no can do with the boys.

Davinaaddict · 12/02/2012 22:12

Sorry you're feeling so rubbish Kayzr Sad Hope you feel better soon. I have no clue what a spaghetti squash is either but am off to google now [nosy] Is there anyone that can look after the boys for a couple of hours, so you can get some rest?

Think I'm starting with the nesting thing properly now! DH is getting lots of instructions and I seem to spend most of my life sorting and tidying or laying on the sofa feeling knackered Grin I just want to get everything baby wise sorted now, so I can relax. Or as DH says, stress out about something else HmmGrin

Davinaaddict · 12/02/2012 22:16

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spaghetti_squash

Hope that works Grin Looks a lot like a little yellow pumpkin!

foolserrand · 13/02/2012 08:40

Feel better soon, *kayzr!

Congratulations, Carlita! I thought you were only a week or two ahead of me and due in April?

"Yellow, long things"???? :o :o :o that really made me smile. So sorry you were messed around during your last birth, David. That must have been a hell of an ordeal. :( Hurrah for your consultant, though! Sounds like she is really doing what you want.

Right, I am out of time :( and have to get ready to go shopping (filling my lovely new space with stuff!) Luckily, nothing to report here, just trucking along same as ever. :o

Carlitawantsababy · 13/02/2012 09:57

david yay for nesting and Moses basket and TENS, sounds like everything is coming together! Grin yet another green grocer for you!
kayzr Sad sorry you're feeling so rubbish, I hope there's some way you can get some rest. My mum has spaghetti squash instead of spaghetti, you book it up and serve it with sauce - I am yet to try it! More baby curled up shape than a banana though!
fools I love davina's new name! How did you come up with it? Grin I'm due on 23/03 so am 34+3 today, how about you? Hope you have a fab time shopping! Grin

trope · 13/02/2012 10:53

Hey all

Been lurking but too zonked to post! Have had horrendous coldy/chesty thing the last few weeks so have barely slept / have been a complete zombie! The joys of being immunosuppressed - DP suffers with a cold for a couple of days; I'm knocked out for weeks :(

We also had a bit of a scare with fuzzy; he stopped moving almost completely. As in two kicks and a couple of small weak movements in a 5 hour period, despite me doing everything I could think of to get him moving (cold drink, hot drink, sugary snack, savoury big lunch, lying on my left, lying on my right, sitting up, lying down, hot shower, cold shower, going for a brisk waddle walk, going for a bus ride etc etc). After 5 hours of trying to get him moving (from when I got up basically) I went up to the hospital and they put me on fetal monitoring - his heart rate was fine, which was a relief and he made a few small movements while on the monitor so they weren't too worried. They said to go back the next day if the reduced movements carried on but it was probably just that he had got into an awkward position where he couldn't move much and it should resolve itself. Fortunately that evening fuzzy did the most enormous movement (honestly felt like my bump was going to split open!) and he has been his usual wiggly/kicky self ever since. But honestly, it was the longest day of my life, I was so worried. I really truly thought something had gone wrong - I felt so completely helpless, nothing I did made him move! I'm pretty sure he basically got stuck bottom down, so his head / legs were squished up around each other. At the time he felt very very low down and heavy so that makes sense. He's head down nearly all the time, but in the evenings he sometimes moves so he is sideways across the bump and I think he got stuck trying to turn back into head down! It left me feeling pretty tearful/wobbly for a good few days though - whenever he's quiet for a while I get a bit nervy, despite knowing that he's just asleep! Silly really, but it really shook me up!

In other news he has started getting hiccups!! DP finds it most amusing - my entire bumps jiggles when he hiccups!! He's properly up under my ribs now too - so uncomfortable! Am finding my lungs feeling a bit squished in the evenings sometimes too - finding it hard to catch my breath! Still, am 31+5 now so that's to be expected! Not long at all to go now!! Seems amazing that 5 weeks from now he's basically full term!!

Will try and do a bit of a catch up post later on if I can - just wanted to drop by and say "hi" this morning as I had a bit of time free! Also - I spotted babybrain's post about the early scan - just wanted to say (and sorry if someone has already said this and I msised it) but i'd be very surprised if your doc was right about the early scan replacing the 12 week one - they can't do the nuchal fold tests etc early so (assuming you want to do the nuchal tests) you should still be eligible for the 12 week scan. Definitely worth querying it with your GP imo!

And with that I am off to do the food shopping that we so singularly failed to do yesterday!!

Carlitawantsababy · 13/02/2012 13:14

Hi trope! Grin glad fuzzy is okay, must've been awful, i've had a couple of periods of reduced movement and they're very unpleasant, only a couple of hours though then he's resumed so can imagine how awful it must've been!
