DreamingOfPeace · 01/03/2012 13:31

I keep thinking you are imminently going to give birth rednellie, after bb3 being on the dot of 37 weeks, by minutes (!!) I keep thinking maybe next week for you!! Though claire did amazingly hang on to hers til 38 weeks despite her short cervix.

I agree with all your points on birth rednellie. I of course want healthy babies above all, but ideally a mentally and physically healthy mummy too who's not too traumatised by how the babies' arrived and as you said, made informed choices. I had flashbacks and nightmares about my last birth for months afterwards. We knew we wanted a smallish gap between our children, and I'd just got to the stage of not being too sore to actually DTD which took a good 6-7 months thinking if I conceive I've got 9 months to get my head round labour when I was lucky enough to get pregnant. I was initially thinking I'd definitely try for a VB and try for a water birth or something this time- ha! I'm still struggling to get my head around the mere thought of another medicalised VB though just in case I have the same issues... I've met people who've felt wonderful, empowered, like you say rednellie.

skitoo · 01/03/2012 20:44

Fab news Rednellie, so so pleased that twin A has turned. Have everything crossed that he stays there and B gets that wiggling around out of his system in time for their arrival - which could be really soon Grin. Please keep us posted.

With no previous experience of childbirth I'm currently trying to keep an open mind and be relaxed about the whole thing, not sure how long that will last though Hmm. The only route I'm really not keen on going down is forceps or ventouse and not even sure why...? Have been told we will discuss in detail at next appointment when I'll be 32 weeks. But we're all different and different strokes for different folks eh, we all want the same end result and should have choice in how we get there.

Thanks for all the sling info, it's another baby equipment minefield isn't it. How was the sling meet Dream and how did you find out about it? Some more research required me thinks - will add that to the 'to do' list for next week.

I think we're there on first names but not done with second ones yet. It is really hard, do they go together, go with surname, don't result in awful initials, no playground jokes, the list of considerations goes on doesn't it. Sorted with those but don't feel ready with much else yet. We did have the nursery furniture delivered and assembled today though, thank god DH didn't have to do it! It took the experts 3 hours so would of taken him 3 days with lots of swearing and a real grump on. Love the furniture which is good as it was a bit of a punt buying on the web. It does however make what was a lovely big guest/dressing room now look incredibly small Sad.

Last day at work tomorrow Grin. Am hoping to slope off quietly, what do you reckon the chances are? Not being miserable or ungrateful just not v.good at those type of things.

DreamingOfPeace · 01/03/2012 22:01

skitoo, sling meet was good. I've always loved carrying dd. Lots of wraps there, and some lovely people (some quite lentil-weavery!). About 7 or 8 of us in total. I started a thread on TAMBA about carrying two and someone posted a link to the national sling meets website, you then select your area (obviously) but i was really surprised there was one near me! There isn't even a very regular twins group near me. On phone now, but next time on laptop I'll copy and paste the link for you. Tbh, I'm no more confident with the Moby yet, certainly not for twins as there were unsurprisingly no twin mums there. I have a yearning for a Kinderpack (expensive and i do have a Boba 3G), and an offer of borrowing a manduka (?sp) though. I'll go again though as wraps are obviously more difficult to get started with.

I would rather have a CS than forceps. Some of the birth injuries to baby's face/facial nerves aren't nice, you almost always need an episiotomy and IME peroneal healing hurts but often if you're at the stage you'd need forceps its too late for a CS. However if it was a case of 'we'll try forceps in theatre and if not go to CS' I personally would go straight to CS. ventouse is a bit less invasive, I have friends who didn't have an episiotomy for it (though 2 had second degree tears) and for some reason I'd be happier with that. (Says she desperately trying to avoid an instrumental delivery!) . I hope you manage to slope off quietly but i doubt it!!! Hooray for your last day at work though.

Despite much debate still can't agree on a shortlist of names, first or second. The only two with vague agreement are Sebastian and Benjamin so maybe those!

DreamingOfPeace · 01/03/2012 22:04

Hope that didn't sound negative about vb. I'm not negative about it, I was one of the small minority with big tear problems with my first birth and am scared of further tearing but don't anyone be put off by my experience or opinions!!

rednellie · 02/03/2012 03:11

Went into the hospital for the ECV - long story short, I asked the nurse to page the OB before she hooked me up to the IV just so we could discuss yesterdays scan. He came, took one look, felt baby A's head in my pelvis and told me to go home. Grin So we're all set for trying for a VB now! What a difference a few weeks make. The midwife was amazed - she'd felt around on Tuesday and there was no head in my pelvis, just a little foot, and now the head is firmly stuck. Let's hope it stays that way.

Sorry about all the self centered posts recently! What with having my Mum here and imminent birth stuff I'm rushing on and off mn. Hope you're all well and looking forward to hearing about any upcoming scans. xxx

goingmadtrying · 02/03/2012 06:18

yay fantastic news rednellie!!!!! Grin

hope you've enjoyed having your mum around, bring on the birth :)

bigboobsatlast · 02/03/2012 09:38

Thats fantastic news Rednellie - the babies are behaving themselves for you at last! So pleased for you.

Enjoy your last day Skitoo - I hate all the 'goodbye' fuss as well, but it was not too bad in the end. I am sure you will get some pressies to make it a little easier ;-)

Tried to progress the name conversation last night - not too bad (at least me and DH did not fall out!). Have a few possibilities but only one that we both really like. Its so hard!

Happy Friday everyone. I am staying in waiting for a Tesco shop (exciting stuff) and should be doing some housework but I already feel knackered and its only 9.30!

Oooo, we will need Twins club 4 soon!

rednellie · 02/03/2012 10:04

Thanks guys! As a side point, I found out one of them is measuring approx. 3000grams, so 6lbs6oz and the other ones not far off - they really shouldn't have enough room to move...

Yes, what do we do about Twin club 4? I'm still too new to mn to know.

Exciting that so many of you are coming to the end of work and being able to rest up and nest. I have stopped buying things now as I figure if we need something we can just go and get it later. My hospital bags are packed, but I keep adding bits. If anyone's got any good labour snack suggestions I'm all ears. Last time all I could keep down were ginger biscuits and ham. Odd.

claireinmodena · 02/03/2012 11:18

Hello ladies

I am finding some time to write finally, I have been keeping up to date on my phone while endlessly feeding, but its hard to type and hold phone one handed!!

First of all great news rednellie for twin's positions adn fantastic weights!!! I cant wait to hear more baby news, keep us posted. I really hope you get the birth you want (do it for me too!!). The CS is not the end of the world, and I am now managing to put it behind me (denial mode), thanks to being completely absorbed by the babies, but I do miss not having "good memories" of their delivery!

I second BB3's tips on post cs clothes and knickers! I am now in that horrible phase though where maternity clothes are too big and my normal ones too tight, so I can only wear leggings, joggers or a knitted skirt.

Thank you for sharing that lovely moment with your dds, I do not think mine are quite aware of each other yet, but they spend most of their time feeding or sleeping, and mostly apart from each other, I do not want to wish time away as I am enjoying their newborn stage, but I am also looking forward to seeing them interact with each other.

katy I don't have any worfds of wisodm since I am only 3 weeks post cs, and my tummy is still flabby and looking a bit pregnant (I was hoping it just looked fat but strangers still assume I am pregnant, if I am not with the babies...).

well done skitto for finishing work! must be big relief!

Good news on scans from bigboobs and goingmad.

As for us, the babies are just lovely and starting to show thier different personalities, Emma is the queen of laid back, she sleeps and feeds and hardly cries, and sleeps longer at night. Riccardo is definitely a lot more alert, and he's got a little wise man look in his eyes that is almost intimidating.. he feeds more often, and occasionally has problems settling back to sleep, looks like he has tummy ache or something, maybe because he's still smaller, an so is his stomach?

It looks like they have taken after their sisters not only in looks but also personality wise, its like having two mini clones of dd1 and dd2. ( mind you dd1 was a lot more difficult at this stage so luckily he didn't completely take after his big sister!)

They are growing nicely though, I can tell every time I lift them up, they are getting heavier by the day.

So I've bitten the bullet and told mil I didnt need any help nxt week, so I will be going solo for the first time next week. I am hoping I will be ok.
The only problem is when they need feeding together, and I can't rock/bottle feed one while I am b/feeding the other, and I hate to leave them to cry....
I did bottlefeed them both together in the night by propping them up between my legs in bed somehow...and I'll have my babysitter come a couple of times in the afternoon so I can spend time with the older girls.

wish me good luck ladies, I really do not want to go back to live in help all the time anymore!

I can hear one twin stirring, so I'll be off, sorry for mammoth post but it had been a while since my last one.

take care

DreamingOfPeace · 02/03/2012 15:00

Hurray for you being all on for VB rednellie!!

We should update our stats thread to go at the top before we start the Twins Club 4 thread.

rednellie · 02/03/2012 17:15

claire, so nice to hear from you, I've been missing you the last few weeks. Glad the kids are doing so well and you sound like you're really loving it all, what a special time. I will do my best for the birth - it's in the hands of the gods now! (Ps I think you'll be fine without the MIL. Better even. You needed that help when you were on bedrest, but you do sound like you're doing great now and having your house back has got to be a priority - and if you need help later, well they can come back can't they!)

dream, you sound suspiciously chirpy and nesty to me...sure you're not going to pop them out before me? Wink I am so f@!#$ing itchy I might beg them to induce me if I can't sort it out. I'm going to the doctor again to see if I can take any antihistamines....I know there are arguments for and against, but surely only getting 4 hrs sleep a night is reason enough to start boshing drugs.

Yoga pants/comfy pants - I have the m&s maternity soft black pants and they have been marvelous with the itching so would think they would work with a c-section scar (if you have one...). Here they are. I'd order a smaller size as you wont be as preggers as you are now...

Right, come on, snack suggestions. What have you/will you take to munch during the labour?

Teds77 · 02/03/2012 18:03

Hello twin ladies, I'm going to attempt to try to catch up with all the news now that I'm feeling a bit less sick and exhausted!

I'm a whole 18 weeks (well 18+3 as I still like to count every day...) and doing okay. Had two lovely strong heartbeats at 16 week midwife appointment so hoping all is still well. Still have weeks to go until my next scan though. Gah!

rednellie so glad that twins have done some good jiggling and you're all set to go with VB. I put is all down to the gentle persuasive touch of those tena laydee pants... Grin Boo to the itching though.

claire so lovely to hear from you and good on you for planning to 'go solo' so soon!

Dreaming good to hear the VB positivity! Although I'm still very early on and don't have any bad experiences (this is number 1 and 2 for me) I have spent far too much time fixated on the birth already. I will no doubt panic again nearer the time but I think it's good to try to relax as much as possible. I know it's good to have a 'firm' plan but I don't think you should put yourself under extra stress if you are still mulling things over. Really hoping you get sorted with the help soon. I think I may have persuaded DH of the merits of a cleaner if nothing else...

Bigboobs saw your name thread - am loving Edward and Kenneth, as I can't use the first option then I insist you do!

skitoo so glad to hear that you are finishing up (time has flown since August/Sept or is it just me??). On carpel tunnel I find that sitting with my hand gently resting over a pair of socks helps - does that make sense Confused and a paracetamol when it gets really bad.

going am still convinced it's team pink for you...

BB3 am loving the handholding too! I saw some adorable pictures of a friend's twins today - they are 15 months and the interaction between the two of them is gorgeous and nice to know it might start from when they are still pretty small.

katy hurrah for 9 weeks old! And do give yourself a bit of a chance before you get down about your tum. It's still very early days. Don't feel pressurised by friends or comments or expectations that might be based on a singleton pregnancy. Gowing two babies at once is amazingly taxing on our bodies and it will take a bit of time to get over that xx.

lilyni glad all was well at the 24 week appointment.

quempin if you're reading at all am sure you're doing amazingly well. The multiple births thread is full of ladies with lots of advice so worth posting there if you want reassurance. You can also see there that there is a range of different experiences and everyone's is 'normal'. Some people have found one period very tough only to breeze though the next etc. Sending you and your LOs ((hugs)) x.

In preparation for the next thread I'm starting a roll call...
Teds DCDA #1&2 EDD 31/07/12

DreamingOfPeace · 02/03/2012 18:35

Lol rednellie, I will absolutely not be having these babies before you have yours!! There are no signs of anything happening plus they're banned from making an early appearance. Particularly if you're induced. The itching sounds awful. They delivered raven at 36 weeks for her itching (& some signs of obstetric cholestasis though I think) but you're term imminently so i hope it resolves a bit or you get induced. And they gave me ranitidine for the heartburn/reflux which isn't licensed in pregnancy so i hope there's something similar for the itching- not widely advised but there when needs must.

Hmm, still not done a hospital bag but I think malt loaf, a creme egg for afterwards (of course! I'm totally addicted) debating some kind of dried fruit, cereal bars?? I was starved for CS throughout last time so ate nothing but want the options this time! I bet in my hospital they won't let me eat during again anyway...

DreamingOfPeace · 02/03/2012 19:14

X posts teds how great, 18+3, that's definitely 18 and a half weeks and sounds like you're doing well being a bit less sick!! I stopped being sick entirely at 24 weeks and the nausea was gone by about 26 so hope you beat me to it :-) . I even mentioned to dh whether to consider induction but we've decided definitely not to be induced again so CS is the definite plan for if i get to my date, but i am at least more open to vb if I go into labour, which is a big step forwards for me.

Oooh, not seen bigboobs name thread but i LOVE Edward (dh said no every time I've asked which is often ) . I'm going to have to go and look for it....

DreamingOfPeace · 02/03/2012 19:34

And also I always count the days... I can't help myself teds!

When I'm next on the laptop I will hunt down the stats thread to update now in readiness for twins club 4- unless anyone beats me to it!!

rednellie · 02/03/2012 20:47

PS good call on dried fruit dreaming. Also help with post birth constipation. Double whammy! And I had several cream eggs in your honour yesterday.

Hello Teds! So nice to hear you sounding perky, and you are defo 18 and a half weeks. You have so much to look forward too...Grin But seriously, you're doing great. Also, good point about the tena pants - maybe baby A went head down in shame at his mothers antics. It wont be the last time.

bigboobs - I love Edward and Kenneth. Both are names in our family and I think are beautiful. I think stinkingbishop has a thread going too so she's obviously not had her babies yet either.

I've got hydro cortisone cream, antihistamine and cortisteroid cream so I am set to attach the ITCH! I may also need some pick and mix, cream eggs and Reece's cupcakes to help me through all this.

DreamingOfPeace · 02/03/2012 23:09

Do it rednellie! urgh, just the thought of more than standard twin bump itching I'm thinking dates (I'm back on food now of course, not romantic type ones!)... currently munching a nice bag now, must buy some for the hospital bag. Good work on the stats thread, my details are still right there. We need claire to add on her babies weights etc (or go back and find them...at least we know what day theu were born on though)

Ferocious BH tonight. Driving me crackers as they make me want to wee all the time! But off to bed, late again...

goingmadtrying · 03/03/2012 07:47

morning lovely twin mummys :)

hi tedsso lovely to hear from you,18+3 doesn't it fly by, great to hear your feeling more with it now your feeling better, we look forward to hearing from you more. when is your next scan? mine is a couple of weeks away which will be the anomaly scan, im guessing yours 2 as we are so close to each other, im 17+6 today!have you started to see the consultant yet for scans? glad all is well

dream yay for feeling more positive on the vb front, I've always found that the estimated weights are a little top heavy, certainly with my previous 2, the race is on between you & rednellie can't wait to hear your birth news :)

sorry for quick post need to get the boys ready for football, i did want to ask when you started feeling defined movements, I've been feeling flutters and little one off movements for a while but no definite kicks, wish me luck for later its my first late night back at work hope it doesn't kill me!! lol

DreamingOfPeace · 03/03/2012 22:00

hello goingmad, but there's no race, I'm perfectly happy with my position second in the queue after rednellie, plus I've told mine they're not allowed out early and that's all you need to do to stop yourself going into labour, no?! Now, you seem like a lady well informed on bags- do I go cheaper and sensible like this cheaper and ? more practical, plus lots on eBay or this which is more interesting? . Or neither- are they both just too big? Though I will have three in nappies for ages!!

And time is still not flying for me- in fact it hasn't flown at all this pregnancy! I felt flutters at 15 weeks (and was amazed) and was getting kicks DH could feel at 17 weeks. But I also have posterior placenta/s so that helps a lot, plus I'd lost so much weight by then from the morning sickness there was less padding in the way I think!! Where is your placenta? Anterior always slows down feeling movements. Urgh, good luck back at work, console yourself that it's not for long!

Took DD to the RSPB reserve near us today- she loves the ducks and stamping in the puddles and watching the birds at the feeders (briefly!). However she fell over while puddle stamping, properly splat, head first into a puddle, grazed her forehead and came up (when I grabbed her) howling and dripping mud and water from her face and fringe- poor poppet! (reminds me why I do still bring her spare clothes...) She also insisted on being carried round by me, and we couldn't face the howling for mummy and resisting daddy, kidnapped-child-style in public if DH tried to take over. So, when do I expect a resolution of the super-clingy stage? In the next 4 weeks perhaps?!

Hello to everyone else! Hope bumps and babies all ok tonight.

rednellie · 04/03/2012 12:32

Just got sent this article by my psychologist friend about identical/non-identical twins. Thought you lot would appreciate it.

I'm still itching here. Averaging about 2 hrs sleep at a time. This is so great. AngrySad

DreamingOfPeace · 04/03/2012 15:58

Love the article rednellie! I think I'm going to get the boys tested- I'd like to know for definite, even if they never 'need' to know for medical reasons- and I hope they don't! What a shame to hear about your itching... When do you next see your OB? When would you like to be induced if they can't stop you itching?! (eeek, how exciting!) Will you go for as near 37 weeks as possible if thats the only option to keep you sane and stop the itch? Yuck yuck yuck. I'm still counting the days til my CS is booked and thats just with the heartburn and rib pain and tiredness that I'm sure you've not escaped either.

Tonight I am going to pack a hospital bag. Minus the stuff I haven't bought yet, but I will get round to that stuff soon!

DreamingOfPeace · 04/03/2012 15:58

oh, and how was your late shift goingmad?

rednellie · 04/03/2012 16:26

I wouldn't really asked to be induced! It's a total nightmare, but I'd rather go into spontaneous labour itching than the alternative. I'm 37 weeks on Wednesday, but I don't feel like I'm ready yet...give me another couple of weeks. Grin

DreamingOfPeace · 04/03/2012 18:03

This is true rednellie. I am purposefully misreading your post as 'induction is a total nightmare' (as opposed to the itching which is what I presume you mean) as it-induction- was for me Grin. I am bust saying 4 weeks 3 days to anyone who'll listen, but yet don't actually have a cotbed up for them, or newborn bits for their pushchair, or a hospital bag, or the belief that actually, in 4 and a half weeks our family of three becomes a family of 5! This is good- if you're 37 weeks on Wednesday that means I'm 34 weeks on Thursday. And if you're 'average' for a twin pregnancy, that means you're having them close to next Wednesday, which may slip into Thursday because I heard an old wives' tale that a full moon means more women go into labour- and it's full moon next Thursday!! ignores fact rednellie is in Canada and may not have a full moon on Thursday at all
