Hi Quempin, lovely to have you back on here! Obviously I am not in a position to say about twins just yet as that challenge is a few weeks away still for me.... but just wanted to say that with my DD I felt exactly the saem - at that was just one! I found the first 1 - 2 months ok, I think the buzz of being a Mum and adrenalin and excitement carried me through, but then after that I seemed to hit a bit of a wall. Other Mums in the baby club I went to all harped on about how wonderful their little ones were doing sleeping through the night or just having a dream feed, and they would sleep for 1-2 hours at a time in the day - well DD NEVER did that! I ran out of steam and the sleepless nights were quite honestly killing me. BUT IT DID GET BETTER AND EASIER. I promise thigs will get easier Quempin, and as your LOs start to sit up, be more interactive etc you will find things get a but easier. Another thing that helped me was to realise that Mothers who went on and on about how thewir slept through the night were generally lieing (yes, thats right lieing!) - if I actually questionned them about it I realsied that their idea of sleeping through was not mine and they were actually finding it just as hard as I was.

Sorry, that was quite a long rant wasnt it?! Have you got family / friends around you to help? Is your DP helping with nights? Can you get yourself a day and night off do you think? A bit of 'you' time will do you the world of good I am sure.

Hurrah for good scan Dream - how was your Skitoo? So reassuring to see the little ones isn't it?

Claire, your babies are beautiful! Thank you for putting pictures up for us to see.

Blimey, I am going to have to get in on this tena pants thing! Are they all in one pants and pads? I have bought the usual maternity pads but now I am thinking I am sooooo last year! I need to get up to date!

DD slept through last night FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER!!!!!! I can not believe it. I really hope my new tougher, consistent approach is working... but lets see if it happens more then once before I get carried away.

Got FIL and his sort of girlfriend coming to stay this weekend, so need to be hostess with the mostess if I can find the energy! Housework today so the house at least looks presentable.

Hugs and waves for all bumps, babies and Mummies

DreamingOfPeace · 24/02/2012 14:25

Oh HOORAY bigboobs!!!!! Your consistent, tougher approach is clearly the dogs bollocks working!! Well done your DD. Mine slept through last night too- I think we are all turning the corner...

Hello quempin, how lovely to see you! Again, speaking as someone with one and not two babies I found it bloody hard. The first 6-8 weeks were a blur of exhaustion for me, with DD feeding all night, EVERY night every 90 min-2 hours. Or more.... While friends had babies doing 4, 5 or even 6 hour stretches (and I found many people count 'sleeping through' as 12-5am- I dont!). I remember hitting the 8 week mark and thinking in desperation 'WHY isn't this improving, at all?!'. For me it did after 12 weeks, when my none-sleeping baby miraculously started sleeping at night (cot and own room all the way!) . However she never, but never, napped in her cot, or the house in the day, so I had to carry her in a sling for each nap, so I was walking for hours a day for her naps. I lost my baby weight though!! Now, DD naps in her cot no problem, and touch wood, nights are improving again (and no problems 3-12 months old). But the new baby stage is hard, and people tell you to enjoy every minute all the time . (WTAF?! no-one enjoys every minute of everything, but it made me feel bad for not enjoying all the new baby bits). Then we had wonderful times between 3 and 10 months, then I got pg and hit a tough patch myself with the really bad sickness/borderline hyperemesis and then with all DD's illness it has been hard. And would have been even if I wasn't pregnant- that's just made it worse. It will get better . And repeat after us all- 'this too shall pass' in a manic fashion with a touch of desperation

Y Y bigboobs, I had bought some maternity pads but *rednellie has got me sold- I think we are 'last year' and the all-in-one pant and pad is the way forward. Awaiting mine to come from Boots online Smile

Good luck with the Bio Oil rednellie, yuck, the bump-itch... You should buy shares in Tena lady- look at all the business you're bringing their way! I should have shares in Creme Eggs for the same reason...

rednellie · 24/02/2012 19:38

quempin, just sending you loads of sympathy...you need BB3 to come along and give you some advice! It doesn't really help saying this stage wont last, but it wont and you sound like you're doing brilliantly. xxx

I've bought Bio Oil, shea butter, I've soaked a flannel in some cammomile tea...I'm ready for you itchy skin! Have relinquished the tena pants for today - they weren't doing it for me anymore, but I reckon they are way better than maternity pants - very comfy and absorbent...might think about some sort of commission.

skitoo · 24/02/2012 19:50

Happy Friday everyone Smile. Manic day at work, so relieved to now be at home with feet up.

Claire, beautiful, beautiful little babies. Made me go all gooey and am looking forward to ours coming even more, can't wait for some snuggles.

Dream, glad scan was all good and you've got a healthy pair of growers. Remind me how many weeks you are now, are they in line with expectations? Better bigger than too small though. What positions are they in?

My scan was was good news too, all looking hunky dorey, so have had a lovely mental free day Grin. Both are head down and spooning to the right! One is measuring 3lb exactly and the other 2lb 10 and the same as you Dream the lead one is the slightly smaller Hmm. Current thinking is if they stay in the same positions then I'll go for VB and really want the epi just sited so I can stay as mobile as possible. Consultant said we would discuss in more detail at 32 week appt when we'll have a better idea of their positions at birth. 2 bad things did happen though, the anti-d injection was a real smarter and journey back from hospital took just over 3 hours instead of 45 mins - thought my bladder was going to burst!!

Rednellie, are you sure you don't work for Tena lady or maybe already have shares in them?!?! Will await Dreams feedback before I add them to my shopping list Grin.

Bigboobs, Dream, glad you both had good nights with DD's, think you needed it. Long may it continue. I've got a DH with stinking cold that's currently waking me up at night with his Darth Vader impersonation .

Quempin, sorry I can't offer any advice as I'm a first timer to be. Be gentle on yourself though xx.

So who can tell me what the difference is between BH and just them moving around. Mine goes all hard pretty frequently but have thought its just them changing positions.

Right must go now and get some dinner ready.

DreamingOfPeace · 24/02/2012 20:42

skitoo, I'm 32+1. are you 30 weeks then? For me, BH are when the whole lower half of my bump goes solid- so its not like you're just feeling a head or bottom/movement, everything is solid and then after about 30 seconds it all relaxes again and you can feel individual heads/bottoms again. I've had loads of them so sure mine are just another annoyance- my first pg after my waters broke I was on monitoring for a bit and the mw's and Dr's were sure I was having contractions and was in early labour as the BH were so strong and regular on the trace! I had to point out if that was the case I'd been having them like that for weeks!! Plus 30 hours later it was exactly the same and still with an 'unfavourable' cervix... My dh can feel them clearly too now and they tend to be uncomfortable but not painful. Both my boys are head down and also both spooning to the right, just like yours! I'm wierdly cross about that, I'd like a good reason for no choice and automatic CS!

And do i have to wear the tena pants?! Surely I can just try them.on for size as my pelvic floor is still just about hanging in there, coughing and all ...?! I have invested for after the birth for the lochia. Small luxuries Smile 3 hours in a car skitoo, no problems with your pelvic floor, I am suitably impressed!!! No tena pants til.afterwards for you either! Unless like rednellie, you just can't resist their comfort :-)

And please remind me never to say dd has turned a corner with her sleep. I have just made it to the stairs in the gradual retreat trying to get her to bed... Doh. She's had a busy day too- second last baby signing session (boo, we'll miss them! Plus she heard dh come in from work tonight and signed 'hear daddy'- I was so impressed!) ,playground, lunch, nap, more outdoor running about and local swings. So go to sleep child!

Hope you're hanging in there quempin, sure BB3 will have some twin advice soon!

rednellie · 24/02/2012 23:22

skitoo, I am insulted that my word is not sufficient to get you to join us in the lady pants brigade! Grin And btw, just so you all know - I am NOT incontinent. In fact my physio praised my pelvic floor control just the other day . I'm wearing them as they don't have any seams and were the only things not irritating my blooming tummy - even that's not working now. Grrr

Grrr also jealous of all these head down babies - will you please ask your lot to have word with my twin A? Although they've been doing some AMAZING moving around today, am actually surprised my tummy hasn't split as they seem to be trying to see how far away they can get from each other, so maybe they're on the move again. My twin A is the smaller one too, but he's only hanging onto his A status by a small, badly positioned foot....

My brother's just found out his girlfriend's having a boy too so my DD si going to be a proper Queen Bee with her little troop of male followers. Yey for babies.

DreamingOfPeace · 24/02/2012 23:32

rednellie, I'll have your twin A, and keep poking him into 'A' position Wink And my cough continues to majorly challenge my pelvic floor. I'm trying to remember to do more exercises but am genuinely getting a little worried... I will not leak wee at any point this pregnancy

bigboobsatlast · 25/02/2012 07:26

Oh bugger. Dd up twice last night as usual. Serves me right for feeling smug about one nights undisturbed sleep!

Off to buy tenner pants to cheer me up.

Happy saturday! X

DreamingOfPeace · 25/02/2012 08:57

But at least she's done it once bigboobs, you know its possible! We did jinx ourselves though, took me til nearly 9:30 to get dd to pipe down and go to sleep last night... Though I'm lucky, dd slept through, but i can't- and last night woke with reflux so bad I had really acidy vomit in my mouth and nose. Most unpleasant.

Tena lady pants as a treat Smile Maybe a creme egg too.

BB3 · 25/02/2012 20:35

Quemp - I think the first few weeks lull you in to a false sense of security and then the lack if sleep and more vocal (less sleepy) children hit you with a thud! But it does get a bit easier or not so much easier but the challenges change and you get to know how to respond to them. The girls are now 5 months old and tbh I think it's only recently that i've learnt what the girls both want, what the different cries mean, when I can leave them to grizzle, what routines each of them prefer. It gradually got to this point though, there was no magical revelation and I was still sat there at 5am today wondering how I was going to get through the day with the girls wide awake and then ds waking up at 6am Confused I keep thinking that when they can sit alone and crawl things will be so much easier but actually that's just a whole new world of chaos Grin. And some days are brilliant (like today) and some are not so great (like a couple of weeks ago when I was calling dh back home!). It's just intensified with two babies. So yes. It gets easier. Or we as mothers, get better Grin either way it's a positive!

Dream - yay for baby elephants.

Skitoo, yay for good scans!

Rednellie - not long now, sending feet-shifting vibes!

Hello to everyone else, hope everyone and their little beans are doing well!

Lilyni · 25/02/2012 23:21

Hi everyone .... sorry ive been so poor at posting .....

Im loving the tena pants conversations!!! :o

Quempin - sounds like you're doing a fab job - Im just burying my head in the sand as I cant even begin to imagine what it will be like with 2 little newborns. I hope things get a little easier for you soon.

Glad your scans went well Dream and Skitoo! Not long to go now Rednellie - glad you are much happier with your new obst.

Hope everyone's LOs are all better and that you all get a good nights sleep tonight.

I had my 24 wk appt on Tues - both babies doing well - no. 1 is 1lb 7oz and no. 2 is 1lb 8! I have to go for my GTT next Wed - yuck! - ds3 was 9lb 13oz so they want to check for diabetes this time. Im really panicking that Im gonna have 2 HUGE babies - dont even know what size of clothes to get in for them!!

Big hellos to everyone else Ive missed - hope everyone is well (as can be expected)

DreamingOfPeace · 26/02/2012 14:34

Hello all,

oh bb3, you make it sound like such a walk in the park Confused . The work is going to be phenonmenal I think... We have advertised for help for 2 days a week so I can get out reliably with all of them. I'm pleased, but feel like a bit of a wimp almost for not just getting on and doing it myself- even though I know that doing the things I hope to do, like going for a walk by the river, to an animal petting farm near us DD loves etc just wouldn't be possible with all 3 and just me. It also wouldn't be happening if my dad weren't paying Not that I asked him to for the record.

Hi lilyni, so glad the scan was good. They won't be that big, they kick them out at 38 weeks it seems (or there's certainly that option it seems) and surely there couldn't be room in there for 2 9lbers! Your DS3 was a good size- normal delivery? I think mine'll be big for twins! I'm going for some 'up to 7.8lb' clothes, and some 'up to 5lb' (about 4 outfits) but that's because they're hand-me-downs. Not bought anything for them yet. And I wouldn't buy smaller than the 'up to 7.8lb' just in case they were 6 or 7lb whoppers- better too big than having to squeeze them into them! And surely twins can't be bigger than 7lb 8 at birth at 38 weeks...? So goes my theory anyway.

Oh. My. Ribs.

And on that note, I'm off for a nice lie down while DD naps!

Later everyone!

rednellie · 26/02/2012 17:29

I don't know dreaming, my mates sister had twins - combined weight 16lbs. Anything is possible...Grin

rednellie · 26/02/2012 17:30

I want cream eggs now...you've got me started. Wonder if I can get them here in Canada.

DreamingOfPeace · 26/02/2012 19:58

16lbs rednellie, you're making me feel faint Grin . Now they were baby elephants! Did she get to 40 weeks +? Maybe I will then, after all, dd was 7lb 5.5 at 40+4 so no tiny dot and these two are certainly growing well...

I am truly horrified you might not be able to get creme eggs. If not I will post you some! The deprivation...

I survived lunch out with the inlaws yesterday and discovered eating like a pig my main meal at lunch time and very very minimally in the evening helps my reflux and therefore my sleep a treat. Oh yeah!

Ah rubbish, crying dd, back I go...

bigboobsatlast · 26/02/2012 21:14

Cream eggs don't do it for me dream, now sweets, now you are talking! Pick n mix is my fave!

Just presumed babies will be about 5lb - in fact I thought that wld be a good wait! Not consider the prospect of elephants! What is the average, does any one know?

DreamingOfPeace · 26/02/2012 21:40

The average at 37 weeks is 5lb something I think. Sure i saw it on TAMBA stats somewhere but I've lost the useful 'multiple births' booklet... I had also assumed that but looming at the birth weights on the old twins thread and TAMBA and speaking to a twin mum here I know they can be much bigger than that! Maybe I'll go and rootle around on their website again... I can scoff pick n mix pretty well too bigboobs

Looking forward to any updates you have time to post quempin and Claire

BB3 · 27/02/2012 10:22

Morning ladies,

bigboobs, the girls were 5'11.5 and 6'1 at 37 weeks so if I'd have gone to term they would have been closer to 6'5 and 7lb fattening up during that last week. I should have predicted that given the size I was at that point!!!

However I would go for smaller clothes as even though the girls were heavier than I expected they were still small and were in early baby clothes. We just got a pack of very basic vests, babygros and mittens / hats in early baby and newborn so that they had something to wear then Dh and my mum bought in proper sized clothes later in the day.

DreamingOfPeace · 27/02/2012 14:26

Oh, I'm getting SO excited at the thought of two tiny babies!!!! Are 'early baby' clothes the 'up to 7.8lb' ones bb3 or do you mean even smaller than that? I must go and check what we've got...

And seriously, I need to make a decision and stick with it. I am still worrying about whether ELCS is the way to go, and certainly worrying about what to do if I go into labour earlier... Gah. I'm worrying about staying in hospital longer with super-clingy DD not understanding where mummy is, that won't help her separation anxiety from me. And not being able to pick her up at first. 5 weeks 3 days (or is it 2 days?!) to go!!!!!!

skitoo · 27/02/2012 14:39

Hello All - hope you all had lovely weekends, wasn't the weather fab.

Dream, I'm only 29 weeks and from what you have described I might have the occasional BH but think the majority of the time when it all goes hard, its just them squirming around. I asked the question about choice of c-section at my appointment and was told by Dr that it wasn't a no but if both were presenting themselves exactly as they were then, they would need to have a good discussion before agreeing to do it and may come down to theatre schedules.

Right I'm sold on the pants Grin. They must be good with all the press you've given them! Rednellie, not sure if you can get it there but I've been using Derma Mum from Boots on my belly and it has really eased the itching that was starting. I can always get some and ship it out to you if you want to try?

Good news on the scan Lilyni and those weights sound like the right range. I'm only a bit ahead of you and mine are already up near the 3lb mark. As for clothes I've only bought some newborn bits so far, think I haven't wanted to tempt fate with buying any prem/tiny baby. I'm going to wait until my 32 week scan and predicted weights then to see if I think I'll need any. I definitely don't fancy 2 elephants, am really feeling the weight they've put on in the last week or so.

Hoorah for getting some help Dream, at least if you get something lined up it will help in some way. I've agreed with DH that we'll keep our cleaner whilst I'm still getting some maternity pay, so for 6 months and am so relieved at that [happy].

Am with you Bigboobs, don't get Creme Eggs but give me a bag of pic n mix, ooh those big jelly strawberries. However, my current fancy is so boring - I can't get enough of grapes Hmm, when do I get a real naughty craving....?

Its my last week of work and it can't go quick enough. Actually have tomorrow off and Thursday will be working from home as nursery furniture being delivered, so just 2.5 days left in office Grin Grin Grin.

rednellie · 27/02/2012 15:05

skitoo, you are so kind. I'm going to see the pharmacist today to see what they suggest as all the bits where I've got stretch marks have gone a nasty red and are very raised so I'm thinking I may need a bit of antihistemine action...Was doing so well until this hit!

I'm definitely wavering between wanting to keep these beauties inside until they're nice big sizes and just wanting to not be this pregnant anymore. I've been lucky, I'm still quite active and mobile, but sleep is rubbish and this itching is insane. So for my benefit, it would be nice to get them out in the next couple of weeks, but for there's and for establishing breast feeding I'd like to give them as many weeks as possible. I'll just have to live with cold towels pressed against my tum...

Yey about finishing work skitoo, what great news. It'll be so nice to chill for a bit. I haven't bought any special clothes for the boys - they're just going to have to look silly in DD's old newborn vests. Have no idea what weights they're for, never really paid much attention!

And I could eat bags of pick n mix, bags of cream eggs with a topping of several thousand chocolate chip cookies...Anything really. Not fussy. Had 3 helpings of crumble and ice cream watching the Oscars last night. Yum.

(PS Can all you lot with head down babies please tell your twins to have a word with mine? I really don't fancy the ECV on Thursday...would be nice to avoid it!!!)

DreamingOfPeace · 27/02/2012 15:39

rednellie I distinctly remember having a little giggle at your description of your bump resembling a road map, and now that's come back to bite me- mine totally does now- with big, shiny, raised stretch marks... I'm also torn between being sick of being pregnant, and worrying over which baby is moving and are they both, and how and when will they arrive... and wanting them to cook as long as possible to fatten up, help with feeding etc etc. But ask me when I can't get comfy to sleep, with an itchy ump, rib pain and reflux and I'd say yes, lets have them tomorrow!!!

I could well eat three portions of most desserts- in fact I had 3 pancakes after lunch yesterday! But only in the day. I really can't eat much in the evening or the reflux is uncontrollable, and even if I can get in a position I can sleep in I wake up with horrendous reflux and a mouthful of regurgitated crap- nice... I'm trying to not eat after 6 pm, pr certainly not 7pm. So eating something light with or just after DD, but that's hard too and DH isn't home then...I am the weight now I was at term with DD. And these babies together are 3.7kg, when she was born she was 3.43kg, plus 2 placentas, so I'm huge in comparison. And haven't put any more weight on in the last few weeks- normal? Or should I make more effort!? Love the thought of you getting shipped creme eggs and bump-itch relief stuff too Grin. And come on babies, turn, rednellie would like you to exit the natural way, so move that blinking foot or get turning twin A!

skitoo, no faffing over my CS but for that I have the dubious pleasure of having had a third degree tear- if this was a single baby I could elect a CS for that reason alone. I have now been told if I present in labour at any time they will do an EMCS if that's what I want..... But do I?! God, the indecision!! Mine both went head down at 28 weeks and haven't turned since.

My bargain of a Moby wrap is here. I haven't practised with it, but hoping it may be my answer to getting out with all three by carrying both babies in that when they're tiny then one on my front one on my back when they're a bit bigger- they have to be about 4 months to go on your back though don't they?

Oh, DD awake, must go...

xkatyx · 27/02/2012 19:12

Hi everyone, haven't been on this thread in a while, hope everyone one is ok??

Our little girls are now 9 weeks old :) feel like a triumph getting through first 6 weeks.

Dh has just had the snip so no more babies for us. Not that I want any more but still a little sad I don't know why.

So ladies talk to me about your post baby belly :( mine is awful just awful.. It's been ok in the winter wearing big jumpers etc butsaturday was my first proper "outing" to a christening and cried trying to find something to wear with this big saggy belly boo hoo :(

How is everyone's babies doing?? Coming along nicely I hope.

DreamingOfPeace · 27/02/2012 20:00

Hi Katy, how nice to see you! And you've survived the first 9 weeks with 5 children, sounds like a triumph to me! Can't help with the belly having not had my babies yet, but I imagine it wont be pretty for a long while.... So far at 32 weeks I'm vast and I think I will have more stretch marks than skin by the end.... You need BB3 or quempin or claire for advice on that!

DreamingOfPeace · 27/02/2012 21:58

Found the Tamba twins weight stats for you bigboobs:

The average length of a pregnancy depends on how many babies you
are expecting:
? A single baby usually arrives at around 40 weeks
? Twins usually arrive around 37 weeks
? Triplets usually arrive around 33 weeks
? Quadruplets usually arrive at around 31 weeks

The average weight of a baby at birth depends on the number of
babies and the length of the pregnancy before delivery
? Single babies average around 3.40kg (7.5lb) at 40 weeks
? Twins average 2.49kg (5.5lbs) at 37 weeks
? Triplets average 1.80kg (4lb) at 33 weeks
? Quadruplets average 1.40kg (3lb) at 31 weeks
Your babies may weigh much the same as each other, or their weight
may be very different.
