I'll join you all in insomnia - was awake at 3am don't think I drifted back off till 5ish, up again at 7 to get ready for school run. Guess def should get used to not sleeping thru the night lol!

Going to do school run and then come back and do some wrapping Smile

Have a good day everyone

msbuggywinkle · 28/11/2011 08:43

Morning! Signing in with insomnia here too...didn't get to sleep until 2.30.

My plan for the day is arranging to collect the birth pool (hired from the mws), reading, crochet, I also have some end of year paperwork to do for the bfing work and need to get in touch with the new scheme in our area that is training NHS doulas that women can book for free, looks like I'll be running some bfing training for them in the new year!

kri5ty · 28/11/2011 08:51

morning girls

Didn't sleep last night (serves me right for bragging about my sleep on Saturday night lol)
Back pains kept me awake all night, I have decided this morning I think they are back contractions, they last about 30 seconds. But I haven't seen how close together they are yet... I hope they are, and that it progresses quickly, not for days! They aren't too bad yet... also think I'm loosing tiny bits of my waters everytime I stand

kri5ty · 28/11/2011 08:54

mmm is your placenta at the front by any chance? My little dude turned back to back last week and they think that's why.. as he can't enter the pelvis any other way

Mmmmcheese · 28/11/2011 09:03

Hi kristy, yes it is anterior and on the left so the worst place for baby positioning! Did your midwife give you any advice?

Ive been following the suggestions on the spinning babies website that msbuggy recommended but no luck as yet. Although i did just do a side lying release and when on my left side my pelvis made a loud grinding noise which was a bit disconcerting but i hope it has done something! Shock

PullyWoolOver · 28/11/2011 09:13

Morning all, another shout for insomnia here, grrrr.

kri5ty sounds promising!

I plan on writing my birth preferences today - has anyone got any good tips per chance? How long etc. Am only really anxious about forceps so will probably put something about that.

Read a really annoying article in Sunday Tel yesterday about first-time mothers and how they found birth and beyond. Article was really negative about the whole thing and they all ended up having epidurals/ complications. Am I being naive to think that not all births are like that? Surely some must be better? Why does the media relish focusing on the bad stuff, grrrr again.

Right, time to get dressed and do stuff!

Mmmmcheese · 28/11/2011 09:35

pully when i did my birth preferences i kept it to one side of paper and wrote in bullet points. My antenatal teacher recommended sayingnthings like if possible, i would like...., if all is well, please do/do not etc. So that it is more a list of preferences that can be altered according to how things are going, rather than a list of demands.

There is a thread on the pregnancy page about good birth experiences, worth a read!

SoTiredoftheWheelsontheBus · 28/11/2011 09:43

Morning everyone, and congratulations to the cheeps. Another one here for rubbish nights sleep - I seem to be fine until about the 3 am loo break, then find it really difficult to get back to sleep. Over the weekend I was still awake at 5, and thought there's no point trying to get back to sleep now as DS will probably wake up in half-an-hour. For only about the second time ever, he stayed asleep for ages and stayed in his room until 7.30. It was very sweet, he was singing to himself - DH and I were standing outside his room where he couldn't see us and listening and smiling to ourselves Smile

My nightfeeding plan is a kindle. I remember really struggling to bf ds with 1 arm, whilst using the other hand to hold massive hardback books (he was born about the time the last Harry Potter book came out) in one hand. Poor thing was lucky he didn't end up with dents on his head from the weight of the book.

This is definitely the week for me - I'm having an elcs, booked for later this week. I have a pre-op appointment at the hospital tomorrow to go over all the consenting issues and have a final checkup, then the cs has been booked in for the end of this week when I'll be 39 weeks. After weeks of being really impatient, it's now a bit strange to know that in a couple of days dc2 will definitely be here.

The plan today involves a big list of final catching up things that really should be done before the baby arrives, but thankfully they're all things that can be done sitting down. Hopefully a nap may also be involved. Have a good day everyone :)

DarciesmumandBump2 · 28/11/2011 09:50

I plan on writing my birth plan today, bullet pointed list of do's & don'ts.

DD has been very trying this weekend, got her to school this morning and pregnancy emotional hormones took over and I started to cry so had to walk away fairly quickly - as much as my hips and pelvis would allow me too at least.

Nipped to Asda and finished off DDs stocking - haven't the foggiest what to put into DPs! Will be wrapping presents today and trying to tackle the pile of ironing DP has created for me :(

PullyWoolOver · 28/11/2011 09:52

Thanks mmmmcheese, good advice, I will phrase it like that.

I've spied the good experience thread on pregnancy - it's keeping me sane!

LittleMissHumbuggery · 28/11/2011 10:04

Good luck for your appointments SoTired Hoping everything goes to plan for you all:) Your first and my second are of an age, I was full term for the release of HP7, and in all my rotund glory did I go to the midnight opening at the local bookshop:o The boy stayed put for near enough two weeks after, but it did scare a fair few people that I insisted on goingWink

My insomnia is a bit of a reversal of you guys. I'm up and down like a sodding yoyo until about four, then I get a couple of hurs sleep to then be rudely awakened by kids. Gah!

My hips are hurting like a hurry thing today, so I have just made a cup of tea, and am having some paracetamol and a nap before tackling the laundry:)

HoneyLovesCake · 28/11/2011 10:11

Morning all. 39+3 & First day of ML...woohoo...so nice to be sat on the sofa with a Brew not feeling guilty about it. Managed to get almost all my work finished despite the strongest BH yesterday that had me crawling around on all fours. Didn't get to bed until 3am as I didn't realise until gone midnight that I'd forgotten to do my tesco shop & it took aaaages as my brain wasn't working properly & I had lots to buy for this weeks batch cooking.

Plan for the morning: Wait for shop to be delivered, write to do list, re-write to do list in order of importance. Have a nap Grin

Pully I share your frustration with the media...please ignore articles like this one; these journalists are talking out of their arses. I didn't read the article this Sunday but I did read the Telegraph's interpretation of last weeks birth study report & it was complete tosh Angry they completely misrepresented the statistics, so I have absolutely no faith in their reporting now. If you can take anything from last weeks study it's that giving birth in the UK is very safe & that complications interventions are not in the majority no matter what the media choose to report; it's just scaremongering. Stay positive :)

bennybenbear · 28/11/2011 10:41

Morning all, good luck to all those with appts and progress this week. Here's to some more action as the week progresses!

First week of ML for me too. Trying to relax but got so much going on. My husband was made redundant in sept, he managed to find another job pretty quickly and it's v convenient being at the same place I work but not really what he wants to do. He had a second interview Friday for a good opportunity fairly nearby but just found out he didn't get it Sad
However another opportunity has come up at the place he used to work for over ten years which he'd have a great chance of getting but it's back where we used to live (over 3 hours away). It's where my parents and loads of our friends are so I'd love to move back. The problem is I am the main earner, we moved for my job and I am planning on going back full time at 5/6 months after baby arrives.
We don't know whether to go for it and try and manage or not? Any advice? Esp second time mums at coping on your own?

kri5ty · 28/11/2011 10:47

mmm they gave me the normal exercises to do... but also said it may not work as the placenta is anterior...

Contractions last a minute or just over and come every 5-6 mins but they don't feel painful enough to ring up... although they do hurt I can bare them

msbuggywinkle · 28/11/2011 11:00

honey and benny enjoy! What are you doing with your first mat leave day?

I'm attempting to be productive today, planning the food for my Blessingway next week (Mexican hot chocolate cupcakes will feature!), washing, crocheting. I booked my birth pool this morning, I'm very excited about the essential trial run which has to be done so DP remembers how to do it. It has nothing at all to do with me wanting to relax in the pool. Not at all.

msbuggywinkle · 28/11/2011 11:01

kri5ty oooooooo! Exciting! Hope they step up for you soon.

OiMissus · 28/11/2011 11:10

Morning all, (getting dangerously close to the thread limit - did we decide on a name?)
kristy when I was in the antenatal ward, my room was next to the nurses station, and with every phone call, the MW on duty said "OK, take a couple of paracetamol and have a bath." (apparently, if they are not real contractions, the bath should stop them - ??) If you are ready (you're 35+ now, aren't you? So you should be fine), then bareable is good!!! :)
Just realised as I typed "have a bath" that I'd started a bath running ages ago! Thank god for overflows!!!!!! I now have a scalding hot 18" deep bath, I'll wait a while before I start removing jugs of water - can't put my arm in to release the plug. ... Oh maybe a bit of jug-lurching will bring on contractions... Wink
Had some very interesting pains last night and this morning, but there's no change in position, my boobs are still firmly resting on a big, square bum.

Mmmmcheese · 28/11/2011 11:24

I just had a lovely nap and ignored the doorbell ringing without feeling too guilty :-)

Now got to decide between a bath or tidying ds room. I love maternity leave!

HoneyLovesCake · 28/11/2011 11:34

kri5ty somehow managed to miss the fact that you're in labour OMG Grin so excited for you...nugget will be here soon...woohoo!

WHINGE ALERT...my mother who I haven't spoken to in 2 months just called. She called yesterday & spoke to DP while I was having bad BH; heard him tell her I was fine & was happy that he didn't discuss the call with me as I've been blissfully pretending she doesn't exist. This was the full call...Me: Hello Her: Are you all right? Me: Yes Confused Didn't you call & ask DP that yesterday? ...should say that mum & BF have same name so might not have been her but I assumed as he didn't pass a message on... Her: Yes, I was just checking HANGS UP WTF??? So now, instead of enjoying my 1st morning off I'm sitting here stewing Angry

KateM77 · 28/11/2011 11:42

Kri5ty I hope things keep progressing well for you from here :)

Another one still suffering from the insomnia here. Although last night was a novelty in that I was awake until about 2.30 and then slept lightly after that, rather than my usual waking up for a wee at about 3am and being unable to get back to sleep from there!

Took DD to musical minis class this morning so she's now having a nap and I'm having a rest. She won't sleep long enough for me to have a nap myself though unfortunately.

Xiaoxiong · 28/11/2011 12:09

Random q to use up the thread: can you actually burn your fingers with chilies? I made sichuan food last night for dinner - my fingers just stung a little bit then but now it's 18 hours later and it feels like I've actually burned them properly (as if I've touched a hot pan)! Any advice? Sad

Mmmmcheese · 28/11/2011 12:12

Aw honey, dont worry. Its such bizarre behaviour that maybe you can laugh at it? And feel tht you definitely did the right thing not to have contact the last couple of months?

I am very excited as just starting losing my mucus plug! No blood but quite a lot of goop. I know it doesn mean much re timing but is getting my hopes up that my prediction of 1 dec might come true!

Mmmmcheese · 28/11/2011 12:13

tyel yes you can, ive done that before and it hurt for a day or so. Nothing i found to help except cold water/ice.

Xiaoxiong · 28/11/2011 12:28

PS I liked "scratching, hatching and latching" for a new title...
