Sorelip, it was still a mistake; just one bollock doesn't equal "a total bollocks diagnosis" !

Love a new thread - just marking my place before bed.

On satsuma chat - was preparing for interview this evening and chain eating chocolates my dad had dropped round earlier without thinking. Caught myself on so decided to switch to satsuma instead. About 5 mins later I was sick, throwing only the satsuma up (sorry if tmi). Seems like body will take chocs but not fruit!

In terms of my medical notes, no baby's position is in another column and has been ROA for some time which I knew anyway. The next column has head in relation to brim (which is now 2/5ths) which I understand - it's just in the fundal height column she has written x-1 and I want to know what x is! Is x 40 weeks in which case my bump is measuring a wee bit big? Anyway, really not vital - she had absolutely no concerns just wondered if anyone knew what that meant! I'll ask next time - if I make it to next appnt!

AwomancalledHorse · 15/11/2011 23:37

Grin, I honestly did 'lol' when I read the thread title, even though I was expecting it...it's just funny to see it!

This thread will be filled before the end of Nov...and then someone will have to think of an EVEN BETTER thread title!

I've been saving up all the books I've bought/received this year to read when I'm BF! Have been going through all the kids books I loved, there are so many things I want to read to LO! Talking of YF, I read War Horse recently & really, really want to see the show (before the film), but it's booked up until Jan!
aethel, we read Holes at Secondary School! Really enjoyed it then...but I think I'll have to wait a few more years before I re-read it (tried Of Mice & Men last year & it was ruined by memories of coursework)!

NAD actually stands for narky, arsey and delirious :o

Marking my place at 5.30am having been awake for an hour Sad is this going to be par for the course then - I may have to come up with some good strategies to get back to sleep, usually I'm a great sleeper when not pregnant!!

Thanks for all advice on slings - I will get a moby wrap to start with, looks just the ticket (like that you put it on first and then manhandle the baby in). Fingers crossed I can figure out breastfeeding in it too.

fusam yes we are doing thanksgiving (my dad's flying over the morning of, so pleased!!) - it is the best holiday in the world, loads of food and good cheer with no religious overtones or consumerist present buying obligations, and every culture can make it their own (had tandoori turkey at a friend's thanksgiving once!) Now my mother and I are on such good terms we will be cooking together on the day - still a little on tenterhooks she will suddenly snap and it will all have been a dream but must just take each day as it comes. Will post full menu tomorrow as we have some ace family recipes - thanksgiving must be done at home though, but the process is as important as the final meal!

Sorelip · 16/11/2011 05:59

I haven't slept yet. I keep getting really itchy and irritated when I try to nod off, so I've been on mn all night, waiting for DH to get home from a night shift. Another hour to go...

Wraps - as I've previously moaned about at length, I have a crap back. Are there any particular slings that are better for crap backs? I also have rather large norks, so how do slings work with those?

PullyWoolOver · 16/11/2011 06:45

Hurrah, new thread! Just marking place.

Last day at work, see you all on the other siiiiiiide!

HoneyLovesCake · 16/11/2011 06:54

:( Serves me right for gloating that I've slept brilliantly throughout this pregnancy....have been awake since 4:30 & I am shattered. Should be an interesting day of work; doesn't help that DP has no work booked for today & will be doing odd jobs around the house. Not that I'm complaining about the work he'll get done; he has been an absolute trooper this past month & the house is coming along very nicely but I just don't need the distraction when I'm feeling like this.

Aaaargh...am I a bad person because it's pissing me off that I can hear my dogs snoring??? Angry

jomouse · 16/11/2011 07:41

Morning all. What a special new thread.
This one will fill like the wind with mat leaves starting and loads of inconsequential stuff to jibber about before the big event.
My epi no arrives tomorrow. I await it with a little bit of fear!
Only other stuff I have to do is to get eyelashes tinted, call me extraordinarily vain but I can't stand the thought of bald eyelashes in the hospital pics....and to chill on the sofa.
Honey sorelip you need deep breathing and cake to get through the day. We are all going to have to get some no sleep strategies in place for when our babes arrive.
I know I should be cleaning/shopping/doing yoga/stocking freezer but there's chocolate to be eaten, cats to be cuddled and these episodes of Breaking Bad wont watch themselves.

msbuggywinkle · 16/11/2011 07:41

honey I'm with you feeling crap this morning. Every move that anyone in the bedroom makes wakes me up at the moment...if it happens again tonight I am moving bedrooms as I still feel as tired as when I went to bed!

I should be going to home birth group tonight, probably my last one before birth but I don't know if I will still be awake at 8pm!

mopsytop · 16/11/2011 07:44

AWCH Warhorse is FAB! loved loved loved it! defs go and see it when you can.

HoneyLovesCake · 16/11/2011 07:46

Not vain at all jomouse I had planned on splurging on lash extensions myself but I don't think I can handle an hour lying on my back :( Tried deep breathing this morning to get me back to sleep but LO didn't like it & kept kicking me in the ribs...little monster :)

figgygal · 16/11/2011 07:56

Morning all sleep not disturbed as much as some of you but my overnight toilet trips are now up to 2 (not a lot I know at this stage but a lot for me) and my wrist pains keep waking me up. Earlier bedtimes are calling!!

Finish work next Thursday can't wait I'm in limbo at the moment my replacement started Monday she already being assigned my work getting frustrated I cant get stuck into things like normal so would rather be gone. I have had a job of some sorts for about 15 years where have had lots of banter and chats I'm not looking forward to the isolation of mat leave!! Though because DH is self employed from home I will have to force self out to baby groups and the like otherwise we may kill each other in each others pockets with lack of sleep Smile. My family are 500 miles away in Scotland so as soon as we both happy to fly I'm off up there in January so nice that I can go for a week at a time and not have to worry about holidays from work!!

Best get to work now still sat in my jammies my start and finish times are being pushed this week I must admit Grin

OiMissus · 16/11/2011 08:12

Morning all, I had an OK sleep for the first time in ages, but as soon as I wake up the back pains start. :( I am supposed to be working from home, but I'm uncomfy, in some pain and can't motivate myself. I feel a little guilty about it, but am trying to tell myself that after 6 years of starting at least an hour early every day that it's not such a big deal...
I'm going to have to make more of an effort in finding and reporting Highs, I just seem to be moaning all the time at the moment. Buck up missus!!

DarciesmumandBump2 · 16/11/2011 08:18

Morning Ladies,

Off to work to finalise my handover - driving in and DP is not happy about it but told him I'll drive carefully Smile not going to be there long and then will come home to wrap some pressies.

KateM77 · 16/11/2011 08:52

Typical. I spent the evening relaxing yesterday and actually slept pretty well last night, and have woken with lots of pain. A stabby pain like a stitch in the right side of my bump. It hurts to bend, to sit down, to stand up, and is making playing on the floor or picking DD up a nightmare. It really hurts when baby moves too. I think soft play and bouncy castles are out of the question for DD this morning. Trying to take it easy, but poor little DD is already fed up of Mummy being rubbish :(

cheeptrick · 16/11/2011 08:52

Morning everyone

I love the new thread title Grin

Pul - Like the nn change but will do a xmas one first Smile

We had a talk with son last night about him acting up and sleeping in my bed. He is picking up on our stress regarding the birth and new baby and he is worried that i will not be there when he wakes up with Daddy. So we have told him if we go to the hospital to pic up new baby then we will wake him and get Grandad to sit with him - he was happy with that. We also told him that we loved him just as much as the new baby and that he will still have everything he has now and still have to go to nursary and mum and dad but there will be a new baby here too. He then went and slept all night in his own bed (with Daddy).

I haven't started xmas shopping yet or planned anything so begining to stress about that as well as going in to labour and being ready for new baby. But right now all i can do is sit on sofa and eat crakers as i have morning sickness!

All of you are putting me to shame with your proactive approach to getting ready for your Babies Blush

plupervert · 16/11/2011 09:32

Sorry to hear insomnia continues ot be rampant. I'm not sleeping too well, but have pockets of very deep sleep which make getting up in the morning quite hard! Very perverse.

Sorelip, anything with crossover straps and a waist strap will help ease the load on your back. The ergobaby is very good for bad backs, as it has wide (vertical) straps, and also two horizontal staps (one around the waist and one across the shoulder blades, between the vertical straps). No interference with my bosom! However, they're rather expensive, and have got more so since the pound depreciated Sad (they're German). They will last for older children, on the back!

Tyelperion, it's great to hear that your mother;s conversion is lasting, and will mean you have both your parents for Thanksgiving!

figgygal, have you lined up a list of local groups? It's good that you have thought of your temperament and the demands of maternity leave. I was very unprepared for the isolation last time, but luckily lived in a densely-populated area, with a number of parks, and gave birth in spring (so lots of outdoor meetings possible), so could build up a schedule quite quickly. Your local library may have rhyme time/songs for small children and babies, and Sure Start centres are a good place to haunt. Both will have lots of advertising leaflets for more baby-friendly activities, so you can develop your schedule from there!

aethelfleda · 16/11/2011 09:34

Boo for the morning sickness cheep! I've started to get the end-of-level nausea back too (happened with DDs as well), it's not as dire as in the first trimester but is sapping my enthusiasm a little.

plu and sorelip, talking about the medical notes codes:
x is the number of weeks you are (its a bit oldfashioned) so your bump is 1cm less than your number of weeks. Total bobbins as there is 3cm error allowed anyway when people measure you! So entirely normal.

NAD in the context of dipping wee means "no protein, blood, white cells, nitrites, glucose or ketones". Over 99% of NAD dipstick urines will NOT have any infection so it's unlucky you were one of the 1%, either that or it wasn't a read NAD reading. If a dipstick is truly NAD tho, they wouldn't send your sample to the lab... So either she saw some white cells on the stick and wrote wrongly in your notes, or the urine looked cloudy/smelly so she sent it off "to be cautious" (but forgot to check the result), or she may have used defective dipsticks. If an NHS person sends a test it's technically their responsibility to check the result: sounds like that's where the error occured. Glad you are OK now at least.

aethelfleda · 16/11/2011 09:39

Oh and figgy if you plug your postcode into the NCT website

Here

Then click on contact your local group, it will bring up a membership secretary/Parent Support Coordinator contact. As a non member you are allowed to request a free sample copy of their Latest Branch Newsletter, which almost always contains a list of all the local baby/toddler groups in the area and when/where they meet. You don't have to join to request the sample issue, and they should be happy to post you one.

fusam · 16/11/2011 09:49

Marking my spot, great thread!

tyel yes please any help would be much appreciated. People think that just because I lived in the states for a few years then I should be an expert but my family isn't from there so we pretty much ate as usual.

msbuggy it's interesting about using the ring sling for older babies I think I will try it that way this time as it certainly is my least favourite sling.

TeacupTempest · 16/11/2011 10:08

HI. I dont often post in here but I regularly try and catch up with how everyone is doing.

I am 36 +1 and am hoping baby comes before 40 weeks. Obviously I want little one to be fully cooked but I am starting to get a little impatient now...feel like a bad mummy. I love all the movement and everything but god its such long wait!!!! I am desperate to give it a proper cuddle.

Was reading the thread in chat about Christmas babies yesterday and got all weepy. I so hope little one makes it out well before then.

OiMissus · 16/11/2011 10:18

Thanks for the link aethel - I've signed up to be informed about events in my area (you don't have to be a member), plus the site listed all the breast feeding councellors and NHS bf support groups nearby. So I have taken notes and feel fully armed! (I had included in my Birthplan that I do not want to be kept in hospital if the baby is not feeding properly, that I'd rather go home and seek support in a more relaxed environment.)

Highs:
Happy to report that the codeine/paracetamol is kicking in and the back pain is subsiding.
Got BF support info
Bought first two Xmas prezzies yesterday, and two swaddle blankets (online Achica - with mumsnet £5 discount)
Bought sister's Xmas present this morning (online)
Got a plan for today (lovin' the list-makin')

lalababy · 16/11/2011 10:22

Goodness me... I left work yesterday...and this morning there have been more than 100 more posts (including the old thread). I could easily spend my day just reading this and pretending to work Grin

Highs
Next week is my last week at work
Had an NCT anti natal class yestereday and it was surprisingly fab and not at all pushy only talk about natural birth stuff

Lows
Hate travelling in the tube even though I am always offered a seat... it still sucks! Just being rammed in on the central line with thousands of commuters is so awful!

cheeptrick · 16/11/2011 11:08

Teacup - i read that thread too and went to bed dreaming of bf lo on sofa with xmas tree lights on and the new mick bubble xmas CD playing Blush
