Hands around a mixture of V-shaped pillows, pregnancy pillows, and re-arranges the glittery vom buckets ready.

Gets the jelly snakes going, along with some Cadburys for good measure, and a strategically placed fruit bowl to disguise the unhealthy choices.

Flicks the duster round, sinks down into a comfy sofa and awaits the rest...

just popping in from the pre-preggos thread to wish you luck for today bartlett

OOh its rather nice here, hope I'll be joining you soon without the vomming, runs, constipation etc etc Grin

scarletfingernail · 15/11/2011 09:04

Feeling much better today. I had a good whinge to DH last night and told him how worried I still am about things going wrong. While he doesn't really get it and is pretty useless with emotional support it did feel better to say it out loud and I felt less tense for it. So I managed to relax and get a bit more sleep that I have been. I only had to get up for one wee in the night and this morning the tight knot of stress I could feel in my chest had gone.

My back is also fine. I'm going out today to do a bit of Christmas shopping (will be careful not to overdo it) so it will be nice to get out and think about something else other than being pregnant. If I notice I'm still weeing more than normal I will arrange for a sample to be checked tomorrow.

((((hugs)))) for Bartlet

BartletForAmerica · 15/11/2011 09:06

Thank you, everyone.

Beedle, you will be back here soon!

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 15/11/2011 10:10

Too it will be fine we are brooking. I knew someone in primary school who only had one kidney and he was fine then. I am sorry this is happening to you, glad that you sound so upbeat and chipper, hopefully the problem will vanish.

Jazzy I was a wreck with pretty much all my scans it is very normal. We are all brooking no argument that bean will be in the right place and everyone's bums will behave themselves

Everyone wondering if they have felt flutters I think in about two weeks you will definitely know, I went from flutters to being booted in about two weeks. I have the opposite thing with my placenta. It is so tucked round that I have zero protection according to the sonographer and my bladder.

If anyone is after maternity clothes then there is a H&M discount code for 25% off and another for £5 in the promo vouchers section on here. I can find the codes if you don't know where it is? I have a cardigan, a dress and two tops from them and they are so comfy! And I had some jeans from last time too.

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 15/11/2011 10:53

Morning all!

Ninja I hope you had a chance to speak to your GP and make sure they've definitely referred you to the hospital. My Dr took ages (and lots of chasing) to actually send in my referral, which in turn delayed my mw appt. I'm pretty sure you should have a booking in appointment with a mw a week or so before your 12 week scan though, I believe that's the policy at my hospital.

Too I am so sorry to hear that yet more stress has been piled on! So frustrating! Still it sounds like you have a great attitude towards it all, and I second everyone else in saying that we will be No Brooking non stop for you and your little bean. I don't know anything about kidneys, but I'm brooking no argument that the next scan will show a significant improvement, and ultimately you'll have a very healthy baby screaming in your arms in a few months' time!

Bartlet I'll be thinking of you all day today. Still no brooking my hardest for you too.

Wants congrats on the good scan, and Jazzy I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you at 11!

At this end I think there may have been another couple of flutters, but I'm not sure and to be honest when I think it might be happening I tend to move around lots to try and distract myself! I know all too soon there will be great big impossible-to-ignore kicks! I'm trying to think of it like morning sickness, it's not fun but at least it's a good sign that things are progressing well.

I'm working from home today because I have my pointless consultant appointment this afternoon. Hoping to get him to take out the million and one references to "a history of depression" in my notes, which seems like a reasonable request considering I have never once in my life been so much as assessed for depression let alone diagnosed with it!

Biscuitsandtea · 15/11/2011 10:58

Good luck with your consultant Scream - how come they put in references to depression if you've never had it? Feel free to tell me to keep my nose out if you'd rather not talk about it?

Wow we have a lot of appointments today. I shall keep lurking for updates....

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 15/11/2011 11:12

Hi Biscuits. It's the whole PMT thing. When I came off the pill to ttc I discovered that the pill had been masking the fact that I'm prone to PMT, which for me manifests as feeling down for a couple of days a month. The doctor diagnosed it as PMT (NOT depression) and it was always very localised to the 2 days directly following ovulation. Plus it's gone now I'm pg.

My mw has taken this as being full blown depression, written it all over my notes and referred me to a consultant. Sigh.

Biscuitsandtea · 15/11/2011 11:13

How ridiculous!! Silly MW!!!

Hope the consultant sees sense!

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 15/11/2011 11:17

I think it'll be fine. My indep mw said that although the nhs mws are constrained by lots of very specific guidelines and processes they have to follow, the consultant should be much more willing to properly listen to the facts of the situation. I expect he'll immediately discharge me from consultant care and back to mw care. It's just tedious having to go in for such a pointless appointment. It's hardly the end of the world though, and I'm glad I don't actually have depression!

CupcakesAndCocktails · 15/11/2011 11:21

Hello Preggos! You are all glowing and gorgeous Smile

I've just popped into say that we are all brooking extra hard for Bartlet and family today

I used to be called BabySade if anyone remembers me from conception. Will see you all in 2-3 weeks when I get my long overdue BFP Grin

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 15/11/2011 11:21

In a bizarre way though, it kind of feels like progress to actually be at the day of the pointless consultant appt! I know that sounds stupid, but when the appt was booked I couldn't even imagine being as pregnant as 16 weeks! Now it seems to have rushed round!

I just can't wait for Christmas time! I'll be 22 weeks on Christmas day!! I normally look forward to Christmas anyway, but this year I'm particularly excited! I'm desperately hoping that Santa will bring me good 21 week scan results and a continuing-to-be-healthy bump for Christmas! Grin

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 15/11/2011 11:23

Ooooooooo Cupcakes you're BabySade!! I've been trying to keep up with the ttc thread but it's a tall order! I saw your new name appear, but I couldn't figure out who you used to be!! Nice to see you here, hope to have you back on a more permanent basis very soon!

Biscuitsandtea · 15/11/2011 11:38

I know what you mean Scream - I think the NHS mws have to tick certain boxes and follow the procedures. So we were referred to the consultant because ds was prem (but only by 1 day) and then because I had a third degree tear / forceps, but again it's just I think that it's not up to her to make the decision so I guess it's good that the guidelines and procedures are in place and that you get referred to the proper person who can look at the facts.

I suppose with something like depression it's not something that the mws would specialise in, particularly, although they are trained of course to look for it, but it's just not their job to make that call I guess. And also, of course this isn't you scream but some people might be motivated to play down any history of depression so the buck for determining if it is likely to be an issue or if it is something that needs to be monitored has to stop with someone Consultant-ish I guess?

farfallarocks · 15/11/2011 11:57

Just popping in to brook like mad for bartlett and jazzy
xx

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 15/11/2011 12:01

I understand that the mw is just doing her job, but really I think she could have applied some common sense on her own. For example if I'd been diagnosed with depression ten years ago, she might think well it's not likely to be a problem but really it should be checked out just in case. However having NEVER been diagnosed with depression, and having my GP clearly state in my notes that I had PMT, not depression, I think writing "a history of depression" all over my notes is just bad medical care. She's ignoring everything my GP looked into at length, and deciding based on a 5 minute conversation that it sounds like depression to her.

I literally have post-its in about 6 different places in my notes where I want the consultant to take out the references to "a history of depression". I don't want the mw I see next time, or the mws in the hospital on THE day, making any decisions about my care based on the incorrect information in my notes.

Sorry, I'm just a bit irritated because I clearly said to her at the time that it wasn't depression, and she said "of course not, of course not". Then it was only when I got home and read the notes I found she'd put all this "history of depression" stuff everywhere and referred me to a consultant specifically discuss this apparent history.

Biscuitsandtea · 15/11/2011 12:12

That sounds like a very good idea Scream to mark up the things you want changed. And I agree, the mw referring you if she's not sure about something is one thing, but you don't have a 'history of depression' if you've never been diagnosed with it! In effect it makes your notes incorrect, and that you should do something about! Deffo.

Glad you have your on the ball independent mw to keep an eye that things are done properly.

You could understand t if she'd said something along the lines of understanding it was PMT but not really being sure if that fell into the depression box, and she would refer you to let the consultant make his own mind up?

I was reading a thread about how many 'errors' (falsehoods?) people find in their notes - it's frightening really, where people say they've measured this that or the other and it never happened. Definitely worth reading them and getting them corrected if they're wrong.

Heaven forbid, if the hospital ever made a mistake and you needed to refer to the notes (which are sort of a legal doc?) you need them to be correct don't you. If the mw or nurse or doctor is saying they took your BP for example and they didn't, then that suggests they know they should have done. I also saw a few comments on those threads about people who'd found wrong stuff in their notes (and not accidental wrong stuff either) and how seriously it had been taken when they did bring it up with someone!

I always make sure I read my notes after every appt now to make sure what they've written is accurate.

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 15/11/2011 12:39

Same here Biscuits! My cousin-in-law had a particularly bad experience postnatally last year (following severe complications from her emcs which nearly killed her and left her in intensive care for a few days). She found out-and-out lies in her notes. In one case the mw came in and yelled at her for not keeping her baby quieter (she was hooked up to a thousand drips and unable even to pick up the baby without assistance, plus he couldn't feed at that point because no one had yet checked his mouth and found his tongue tie). When she left the room my cousin's DH had a look at the notes and the mw had written in all this stuff about checking my cousin's fluids, checking bf'ing was going well, etc etc. Absolute lies. When they made a complaint about that mw later that day, she came back in again and "explained" how it was all my cousin's fault for not looking after her baby. Then she left again and they found in the notes that she'd put that she "apologised" and my cousin "accepted" the apology! Unbelievable!

This isn't meant as a criticism of all nhs mws by the way. I do believe that there are people who are good at their jobs and people who are bad at their jobs in all professions. I also know people who had excellent support from their nhs mws. There are some cowboys out there though!

Biscuitsandtea · 15/11/2011 13:02

Gosh that sounds awful Scream

Agree too that I think it is very much the exception rather than the rule for poor treatment but it does sadly exist.
