Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
mummyzoe2012 · 15/11/2011 21:46

well, im in agony here, pains up both sides of my bump, back ache, lower bump pains, feeling dizzy. rang the assesment unit and they have said pain killers and ring back in an hour if no better, its not getting any better at the mo, hope its not labour want ame to stay in there a bit longer.

GiraffeAHolic · 15/11/2011 21:49

Might be worth trying Califig for constipation (syrup of figs).

That does not sound good mummyzoe, have you had a strenuous day?

Oeisha · 15/11/2011 21:51

fish Prunes/prune juice, swimming (helps move stuff along), salad, you can try pro-biotic yogs/natural yogs (never worked for me though) and waiting. Irritating situation. I get it occasionally, though less frequently now my diet's better during pg. You could ask doctor for laculose. Key is to just wait it out and not strain. You will feel grim and like you need to go for ages, but it's best to wait to avoid anal tearing, piles and internal tears. If you're getting associated crampings, get the lactulose as it's not worth the misery of the cramping...
Will update you all on other stuff later, but thank you all for the support! It's got better. Just don't want to leave fish in limbo, when this is (quite literally) shit I know about...

Oeisha · 15/11/2011 21:52

oh! oh! conference pears too...

mummyzoe2012 · 15/11/2011 22:02

ive done nothing all day, par go to the supermarket and bought 1 thing. pains still not easing up. took the pain relife about 30 mins ago and no relife yet. i actully feel worse

fishandlilacs · 15/11/2011 22:05

zoe ouch-that sounds like proper braxtons to me-I had some beauties like that I can remember lying on my ball moaning for weeks before dd was due, and every time i thought i was going into labour. Don't know about the dizzy tho-thats probbaly just the pain. Hope it passes soon for you.

Oiesha-thank you for the advice, do you think the pain in my foof is the straining then? I love pears. shame they are past thier best in season now, hard to get ones that ripen nicely.

I have some senakot in the cupboard and I have some lactulose. Might try senna tonight and start taking the lactulose for future "blockages"

ParsleyLion1 · 15/11/2011 22:12

fish if nothing natural is working Lactulose will. You can buy it over the counter if desperate It tends to make me feel a bit headachey but that aside it does the trick. I save it for desperate times.

Having said that I think I have a pile popped out todaySad

mz try doing some deep breathing to calm and relax yourself while waiting for the painkillers to hopefully kick in. Fx it's a false alarm.

ParsleyLion1 · 15/11/2011 22:14

fish I'm not sure if you can have Sennakot? I think I googled that before buying the lactulose. You might want to double check first.

fishandlilacs · 15/11/2011 22:19

parsley too late, I have already had them-i checked the box and it didn't say anything about pregnancy on it. Cest la vie, I should say Oh shit-but thats the desired result I gues :)

I do remember having it when BF'ing DD and midwife told me off saying I was going to have a squitty baby! Like babies aren't squitty anyway lol :)

fishandlilacs · 15/11/2011 22:22

phew:

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Certain medicines should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding. However, other medicines may be safely used in pregnancy or breastfeeding providing the benefits to the mother outweigh the risks to the unborn baby. Always inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy, before using any medicine.

* This medicine is not known to be harmful if taken during pregnancy. However, as with all medicines, you should seek medical advice from your doctor before taking this medicine if you are pregnant, particularly if you are in your first trimester. Other methods of relieving constipation may be more suitable for you.
* There are no known harmful effects when this medicine is used by breastfeeding mothers.
ParsleyLion1 · 15/11/2011 22:33

Phew. Might have been the 1st trimester that put me off. That's when I checked it out before.

knittiekitty · 15/11/2011 22:43

Poor Fish, hope your bits calm down overnight. I'm not allowed lactulose as my GP said it's full of sugar so I have Fybogel prescribed instead. It's yucky to swallow but nice and gentle and does the trick. You can get it in supermarkets etc and the sachets have long use-by dates.

I've spent the past week wondering and worrying why my Metformin hasn't made me feel any better as still raging thirst, v tired, craving sugar and going above my blood levels despite continuing my brutal sugar-free diet. I finally caught up with my diabetes MW today and found that she didn't bother checking my prescription before giving it to me, and it was wrong. Instead of taking it twice a day I was prescribed to take it twice a week, so it's done nothing. I've started the proper dose today and instantly my readings are within the target ranges. I'm so upset as have 'lost' nearly 6 days of taking it and my stretch marks are getting sore as my skin is on the verge of splitting, despite lathering on heavy creams. I've got big so quickly in the past 6 weeks because of the GD Sad I really need the drugs to slow it all down. Fingers crossed it will get easier

GiraffeAHolic · 15/11/2011 22:53

knittie did they give you any diet advice with the metformin? Only asking as I took it for ages due to PCOS and a low G.I. Diet really does improve it's effectiveness.

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 16/11/2011 07:45

fish - do you have any foods that you have an intolerance to and give you the squits normally? Cos I've been drinking gallons of orange juice which normally has me pinned to the bathroom for hours in agony, but has kept me nice and regular during pregnancy I am going to miss the lovely orange juice.

kittie sorry to hear that - I really hope it starts kicking in now. Can't believe they've been so negligent.

Ugh. Flat is a total mess - downside of DH cleaning is that everything looks far worse before it looks better. I'm on strict instructions not to do any of it, so I think I might go swimming so I don;t have to look at it/live in it.

Capybara · 16/11/2011 08:02

Gah, another almost-sleepless night! Mostly due to having to wee all the time (now suspect UTI) but apart from that I just don't seem to be able to stay asleep (!) Any fellow sufferers out there?

fishandlilacs · 16/11/2011 08:09

MZ how are you this morning? Still in pain and dizzy? I was awake last night and I was hoping you were ok xxx

oiesha thanks for all the advice.

kitty poor you-that pretty awful of them, my best mate (madameboo on MN-you'll find her in the BESH threads) had GD and she managed really well with a low GI diet. She wouldn't mind if you PM'd her for a bit of advice on the issue. I don't think she took any tablets at all. Thanks for the tip on fybogel-I'd forgotten I already have some of that somewhere in the house! Will give it a go because the senna hasn't worked anyway, but i'm not sure if that just because i did manage to go in the end last night and theres nowt to "go on" today.

cakes I'm not intolerant to anything, (except bigotry, prejudice and racism :)) so sadly can't think of any food I could eat that would help. I'm going to stock up on dried fruit today though-i'm off to supermarket in a minute because I am going to buy my friend some pate as a post baby pressie and I get to cuddle the newborn today. Squeee!

greenlady78 · 16/11/2011 08:17

fryn and red hello (waves) I'm all the way down in Wandsworth! Still...if you guys are ever about 'downtown' (I'm not a vegetarian but found a to die for veg restaurant in Oxford Circus) let me know Smile

fish a good trick is to put a small bucket under your feet when you go to the loo, it creates a squatting position which is ideal and makes the bowels work better. Also to prevent and to keep tears from re-occurring an incredible thing is Lansinoh (yes, the nipple cream!) if you put it in before a bowel movement and after you have a shower (to keep it clean, etc) it is incredibly helpful!

Also if you eat oranges (leaving the white bit inbetween the peel and the orange) it makes thing move along....hope that helps [smiles]

Ah, also stopping using normal soap in those areas is a good idea, washing just with Emulsifying ointment BP (bought at Boots for around £4 for a big pot) keeps the area clean and prevents skin from drying.

knittie how frustrating! But how nice to know that now it is making a difference...strech marks....what can we say? I feel you can bathe in oil and all it does is to give you soft skin...but it prevents nothing! Hoping you feel more comfortable very soon!

greenlady78 · 16/11/2011 08:19

mz hoping you are doing much better today!! Thanks

miamama09 · 16/11/2011 09:31

hoping to hear from MZ today with positive news!

ghosteditor · 16/11/2011 09:46

kitty Shock that's awful about the mistaken prescription - did you get an apology? I really hope that you start to feel better as the medication kicks in. My nan is diabetic and I have a recipe book that recommends healthy alternatives to things - they recommend pear and apple spread as a sugar alternative and I used to have it in porridge to sweeten in (you can use it in cake too I think). Let me know if you want me to look up any recipes (soup, meals, treats etc), would be happy to pm you about them.

sorry to hear about all of you with bowel issues - the indignity of pregnancy... no advice here I'm afraid.

I just found out that one of my colleague has a sister who is a major exec at bednest! They've apparently resolved their manufacturing supply and should be back on track for resuming delivery in late Nov. Has anyone decided to get one of these? My FIL is making something similar for us as he's a carpenter, yeys.

Has anyone had any thoughts about nursing clothing or are you leaving that for post-birth shopping? I have one of these from Jojo but haven't thought about anything else.

addictediam · 16/11/2011 09:51

Mz posted a comment on het fb status saying everything is fine last night.

Now to catch up with the thread!

ghost - having spent the last 20 weeks around a large group of nursing mums I can honestly say it's only the brand new mums who bother with nursing clothing. All the rest of them wear their normal clothes and just hoick them up or down to give access and you can hardly see anything, in fact - it's generally more discreet if you're hitching things up than down, FYI.

So no, I haven't bothered :-) Am going to be sad to be back in my 'normal' clothes though, I like my maternity ones much more as a general rule...

ghosteditor · 16/11/2011 10:56

welcome back yummy!

cakes thanks for the heads up. That's interesting! The only person I actually know with a little one (who breastfed for 12 months) used to rave about the nursing tops but given your experience it's probably best if I wait to find out how I get along with the one I have! Not sure how much my normal clothes would work with feeding though, as I like dresses and would have to yank them right off to one side.

15 working days left for me! (a month in real time though). And still no maternity leave even remotely sorted. No wonder my BP is high...

fishandlilacs · 16/11/2011 11:02

ghost I found that a vest/top combo was best hoick top up and vest down and that covers a mulititude of sins. The only nursing top I had which was a vest with holes in and a wrap over cardi that matched-the holes were in the wrong place and under my armpits-no where near my nibbles. Such a faff.

Wrap tops and dresses are best of all.
