There we go, a nice new thread.

The BIG Question??? Will the first baby arrive during this thread???????

Just a guess, Ghost, but if BP remains elevated they may suggest finishing work now and/or bed rest to try and stop anything more serious developing - that is a total guess though.

As far as the transverse baby goes - have you spoken to Nicole? Relaxation and certain positions can sometimes help babies to move round into a better position and she might be able to help. I know Hypno is meant to be very effective for this kind of thing because of the relaxation element allowing baby more room. It's worth a shot, anyway.

We got a Newborn babygro for ours because, like you, the 20 week scan showed it was average sized and I figured if it was slightly large it wouldn;t matter too much. Might take some 0-3 with me just in case, but worse comes to worst Dh can always pick up more stuff from home or whizz out to Sainsburys!

Ugh - I really must go and check if we have enough crib sheets... or even if we have any, as I think we may only have moses basket sized ones because that's what we were going to have originally. Crap. How many sheets do you think would be needed? 4? and one waterproof one?

Oeisha · 14/11/2011 12:25

fryn I though liquorice was on the 'no list' for pg women. Something to do with cortisol and diabetes??? Maybe that's just the chewey sweeties though...Hmm either way, I hate liquorice, so won't be trying it.

Have similar issues with aniseed, Dr looked at me like I'd maybe lost my marbles when I said no, I'd rather not have indigestion relief if she could only find aniseed (I figured I could by gaviscon peppermint if the NHS was being that inflexible).

Half the time I feel like I'm in denial about Abi, but then I realise I have no sodding money to do anything about it all anyway, so not stressing's actually a good thing. DH is seling a kart & trailer, so hopefully that'll buy us the tumble drier and last few bits we need. Then I can organise to have it all delivered from the various places it's coming from and then start washing all the various bits of baby clothes I've hunted on ebay/been given.

I also can't get my head around the first outfits thing. If Abi has long legs like her daddy and she looks like she has on the 20wk scan, then should I go into 0-3mths? But I was a BIG baby for my generation, and was in 0-3s for that reason...BUT most babies in my family are on the small side/average at most. GAH! There's a good couple of inches difference in most places. DH went straight into 0-3s according to MIL, and am thinking maybe these would be useful anyway as I'm planning the 'real nappy' route and newborn grows look soooo teeny! But who the frigg knows? Sounds weird, but at least with a breech/transverse baby I might get another scan and they might be able to tell me if she's a girruf or hippo...

Got my parents visitng until Thursday now. Weekend was hectic and OMG how bad to hungover people smell...even if they have showered and cleaned their teeth. Seriously, I felt (what I imagine to be) hungover myself thanks to the filthy headache form lack of sleep and desire to vomit every time someone breathed on me. Hey-ho! Anyway, I should be cleaning/tidying not sat here.

miamama09 · 14/11/2011 12:28

I have a few Newborn babygrows and vests for the hospital, but most clothes for home will be 0-3. DD was 8lb3 and fine in the newborn things when born. Got a little fluffy suit thing for bringing him home in, which is 0-3 as will get more use out of it.

You lot are making me agitated about lack of things now! going to buy new crib sheets this weekend, and get bro-in-law to bring the crib from his house so can get it set up in our bedroom! Started packing my bag at weekend, but only got my nighties in there & babygrows. Realised I haven't bought any newborn nappies yet, & still got few essentials left to get! eeek lucky I am a mjor list-maker so I have it all written down... somewhere...

Just got to get the house sorted this week first. Flooring going down Wed, Thurs and Fri, new sofa coming, then the final touches before Christmas and baby arrives!

Don't know what I would do if it decided to come early!!!

ghosteditor · 14/11/2011 12:42

oeisha glad to hear I'm not the only one who is baffled!

cakes thanks - yes I'm going to ask Nicole tonight and I've had a brief look at a few positions I can try to get the baby moving - they look like downward dog though and I do that every week, and the baby has been transverse for weeks and weeks. Also read some really interesting stuff from a physio about how tight muscles and fascia can encourage transverse positions due to the shape and tension of the ligaments around the womb - and in fact all the physio I've had over the last few years has been to correct muscle imbalances (essentially, training like I was with hypermobility puts some muscles into semi-permanent spasm in the wrong position/tension). Looks like it's all down to my dodgy biomechanics again! stupid body...

Cripes I hope that's not true about work. We'd be screwed (at work I mean). I could work from home some of the time though; maybe that'd be a good compromise. Guess all my crazy running around and not resting is coming back to bite me - funny how you all told me to rest more and I blithely assumed I could get away with it...

Anyway best not think about that until tomorrow as there's nothing I can do about it. SOOOOOO glad I've got this uber stressful situation to deal with at work this afternoon.

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 14/11/2011 12:58

It may be a case of going on sick leave until you start mat leave. Maybe start drawing up some handover notes now, just in case...?

What I want to know is how the hell you can tell which way round PM is lying - I have absolutely no idea what Sproglet is up to and he seems to keep it moving all the time anyway - I mean - I just palpated my belly and I swear to God it felt like there was no baby there at all! No limbs, no head, no bottom, just a big fat stomach! I'm dying to see the GP this Friday and find out what's going on! :)

shonnomanom · 14/11/2011 13:11

I need my head checked!!!!!!!!
Just been doing some online christmas shopping and started thinking about everything that needs to be done for said season. Decided its too early to write cards as we havent had our free stamps yet. THEN I started to panic about what mess DP would make of my christmas tree! He's not getting his hands on it. I dont care if it takes me a week to decorate the damn thing IM DOING IT!!!

Anyway, head back in the baby business....

Babies in the wrong postition: Iv heard of people cleaning the floor whilst on all fours, something to do with the shuggeling can help move bubba. Also, its been known for the mw to try manually moving the baby, its supposed to be very uncomfortable during and after getting the bump manipulated.

Clothing: Dd was 8lbs 10oz at birth. She was fine in the Newborn size however I would make sure you have 2 sizes with you just incase. ALSO: remember that clothes sizes vary from store to store. Newborn in one shop is really 0-3 in another store.

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 14/11/2011 13:25

I'm giving xmas a miss this year. If they're expecting cards and presents then they can all feck off with themselves so they can. It's my Dsis's bday next week and getting a card and present for that is bad enough.

Fryn · 14/11/2011 14:11

oiesha - thanks for the heads up on the liquorice. Apparently it's only bad if you eat 100g of pure liquorice a week, so hopefully a few cups of tea in a week is ok (and they seem to recommend it in Australia!) Although obviously the Daily Mail changed that to one liquorice allsort a day will kill your child (well, near enough). But let's not get started on my thoughts on that particular publication.

cakes pikey trifle from a box?? Even I draw the line there! And besides, there would never be enough sherry in a shop bought one...
We're off to the Sorrento/Amalfi area, so hopefully a bit of sun, even if it's not terribly warm. Haven't been down there for years, so really looking forward to it.

DD was 7lbs 8 oz and 0-3 months were massive on her, so might be worth taking a mix of clothes. Actually, she's nearly 2 1/2 now, and we can still get her into some of her 12-18 months stuff! She's really not particularly small either. As shonno says, it really depends on the shop.

addictediam · 14/11/2011 14:12

I just attempted Christmas shopping, I inteded to buy all of dds and dhs presents. But came home after buying just 1 gift for dh and nothing for dd. I am so tired! It was just too much. Internet shopping from now on i think!

Hope thoes with aches and pains are feeling better soon

ghosteditor · 14/11/2011 14:14

thanks shonno I never thought about clothes being different sizes for babies but obviously that makes complete sense as that's how it is for adult clothing. Gosh, they don't make it easy, do they?

About christmas - seems totally out of my capability at the moment. I've tried bringing it up a few times with DH but there's so much other stuff to get done that I don't want to distract him! He'd be fab at doing the tree but not so sure about sorting out presents etc. Also, I have several family birthdays between now and christmas so it's easy to get distracted thinking about them!

cakes I think the transverse position makes it really obvious, that's all - a head on one side of my bump and a bum on the other. Plus I never really feel pressure in my pelvis/cervix and I've never been kicked in the ribs - always to the side of my bump. And my bump is fairly wide rather than deep. I suspected as much about the transverse position but like you wasn't sure of what I was feeling until the doc confirmed at the 31 week appt today.

I have my next MW appt at the end of next week (a week early) so hopefully there will have been some movement by then. To be honest, on a better day I would probably just shrug it off, as there should be loads of time for ppm to move around. But apparently ppm should really be in a vertical position (regular or breech) by now and turning gets less and less likely due to reduced space, so I'm fretting a bit.

redheadbedhead · 14/11/2011 14:16

makes I'm the same, no idea which way up my baby is and no midwife has ever commented except once when she said the head was down. but since then I feel like it's moved around in loads of different ways so I've no idea now.

there's a whole thing about 'foetal positioning' to try and get the baby in the right place - this is why i got the exercise ball to sit on because apparently that really helps, especially in the third trimester, and there's loads of exercises you can do to encourage the baby to go in the right place.

this is all hearsay obviously as I haven't actually had a baby yet!

got my mum-to-be bounty pack today, nice to get a free cup of ovaltine and a nappy Grin

redheadbedhead · 14/11/2011 14:16

oooh millions of x posts sorry!

redheadbedhead · 14/11/2011 14:18

by the way is it normal for the baby to be hiccuping at least 3 times a day??? i feel a bit sorry for it...

Capybara · 14/11/2011 14:18

Thanks everyone for the tips re. clothes sizing - I hadn't really thought that far ahead yet (!) but good to know.

Otherwise - is anyone else finding themselves quite breathless? I was sitting in a rather stuffy car this morning and I virtually had to hang my head out of the windown to catch my breath.

redheadbedhead · 14/11/2011 14:33

keep laughing about 'pikey' trifle Grin

and wanting some DESPERATELY

Oeisha · 14/11/2011 15:13

Hehehe! redhead I've been asking about hiccups, mainly because they seem VERY radipd at points, to the point I'm wondering if I can feel the cord pulsing, not her hiccupiung. Abi seems to get them at least once a day (usually first thing). 3 times a day yesterday. She also gets very cross about them sometimes. I can often feel them on my bladder, or on the left, which only adds fuel to my suspicions that she's not the way round they think she is.

As for tranvserse babies. Yup. Abi switches between transverse and breech (apparently). Though I swear every now and then she's the right way. I get lots of thumpings on the right (which is where they tell me her head is, as there's often a big lump there) and not very much on the left, so either she likes drumming on my liver, or they're wrong. Going for 31wks on Wed, so will ask MW to poke her a bit. Not tried the exercises yet, or I have and she just changes to wherever she damn well feels like 10 mins later...DH was the same apparently. MIL had him turned once a week form 30wks...born breech...

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 14/11/2011 15:13

Yes yes yes to the breathless thing, though I get it muddled with the dizzy thing sometimes...

As to the pikey trifle in a box - it just has the jelly and custard and dream topping (boak) and sponge bits and everything but you still have to make them up with hot water and so on - why not just buy them individually - it's daft! I did try a bit, but found it rather bland and unexciting - I prefer the calorific delights of the posh version!! :)

I get kicked all over - sides, cervix, ribs - everything. Haven't got a clue what Sproglet is up to.

btw - ghost - do you eat tofu or would u prefer chickpeas? I am so lazy I cba to message you separately! lol

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 14/11/2011 15:15

oh - and ps - apparently babies who hiccup a lot in the womb can be great hiccupers/pukers in the first year of life too - be warned and stock up on muslins now!

addictediam · 14/11/2011 15:24

Cakes if dd is anything to go on that's very true! she was a hiccupy baby in my tummy and still gets hiccups a lot as well as a very sicky baby (but some of that was down to her allergies)

ghosteditor · 14/11/2011 15:29

cakes, love both tofu and chickpeas so don't mind either way Grin

re hiccups (or more properly hiccoughs, apparently, though it doesn't look right!) I think we may have had that for the first time this weekend, unless ppm was rhythmically tapping away on my belly! I couldn't be sure but it was a very consistence little beat for a few mins. Quite sweet though right?

redheadbedhead · 14/11/2011 15:40

Grin i always want to write hiccoughs but never do because I always think people will not know what I'm talking about!! also the spell check doesn't like it!!

am not happy about news that hiccuppy = sicky baby. BOO HISS!!!!

fryn if you're lurking did you get my text? me and fryn are having dinner tonight yay!!! sounds like cakes and ghost are doing the same! hooray for MN!!

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 14/11/2011 15:48

hee hee - wish you were all more local really, ghost and I have such a nice time comparing notes when we meet up :)

And that makes life much easier ghost! Nothing worse than a vegetarian who is also picky :D

fishandlilacs · 14/11/2011 15:50

Hiya all,

sheesh, i'm out for 4 hours and it takes me 20 mins to catch up :)

Re: babies in bad positions, on all fours leaning over birth ball worked for dd-every evening for as long and I could bear it.

never knew about licorice-love the stuff! On the whole eating thing, did you know that NHS have now decided certain cheeses are ok namely, camembert and brie as long as they are cooked (oh yeah-dippy melty cheesey goodness anyone) and danish blue and stilton are apparently ok now too. Just bought some danish blue-yummy!

Ok i am beginning to panic about everything. I need to seriously get all the shit together soon. Most of it is in the attic and I have no idea what half of it is! Trouble is I cant get up there to find out, i'm not sure climbing ladders is the best idea at this stage and dh is useless at following directions-unless i can get up in the attic myself and say that bag/that box he wont bring it all down! May have to risk it myself.

My dear friend is in labour right now-I got a text this morning to say her waters went early this morning and she was managing at home with her OH and bouncing on the ball. Contractions were every 6 minutes by 2pm this aft-I havent texted since then-don't want to be a pest, but waiting with baited breath!

heads down and fx that I manage to skip inspection tomorrow! If not I may be in deep doodoo, but I utterly refuse to bust a gut over it. I have had very little support in preparation for it so hey can go boil thier heads as far as i'm concerned. I wont be keen to take on anymore contracts from WCC in future, they have been rubbish.

Fryn · 14/11/2011 15:54

red - I just replied. My mobile's changed the noise it makes when I get a text so I hadn't realised I had one! Durr.

Nice to know we're all mingling! And cakes I'm married to a fussy vegetarian - it's like some form of torture! Although on the plus side he will now eat vegetables, which he didn't when I first met him!

Fryn · 14/11/2011 15:56

fish - thank you for that joyous cheesey happiness post! I do miss "real" cheese! And I hope they ignore you tomorrow (in the best possible way, of course.)
