Join us as we head out of the secretive, scary, slightly sicky first trimester and into the bump emerging, supposedly blossoming, energy boosting second trimester.

am hoping that I only noticed my psoriasis had gone later in pregnancy though, which is why its still here atm. Maybe it will go soon?

cheaperthantherapy · 15/10/2011 18:41

Dipping a tampon in yoghurt - even with the awful itching if suffering from thrush don't know if I could bring myself to do that :)

Bunsouttheoven · 15/10/2011 19:28

I tried the tampon dipping thing once but it was highly unsuccessful. The tampon just swelled up & went very soggy. There was no way it could have been (ahem) inserted. Blush

SurprisEs · 15/10/2011 19:38

I have never had thrush but couldn't bring myself to insert a tampon full of yogurt. I'm assuming it would relieve the itching but wouldn't get rid of the thrush.

Hotpot, or anyone that knows the answer, apart from gas & air what other pain relief can you have at a home birth?

cheaperthantherapy · 15/10/2011 21:01

Suprises - I think you can have pethidine.. Depending on your midwife/area.

Hotpotpie · 15/10/2011 21:51

yep I had heard pethadine as well, im waiting until my next appointment with the midwife in a fortnight so I can pump her for information on stuff like that - assuming it goes ahead I know shes on long term sick leave atm Hmm

SurprisEs · 15/10/2011 21:56

I'm hoping to avoid pethidine this time. I really didn't like
It last time.

With DD I found the midwife was reluctant in discussing anything to do with labour until right at the end which I found frustrating. It's always too early in their mind.

BeyondLimitsOfTheLivingDead · 16/10/2011 08:41

I guess they don't want to worry people? Thats the only reason I can think of, and its a bit of a crap one!
It didnt bother me too much as I had MN ([hgrin]) and the internet, and I'm a reader-upper anyway, but it really annoyed me that my "labour" antenatal class was when I was 39+5! I knew three women who gave birth within weeks of me, and I was the only one who went overdue. If I'd gone early, I wouldnt have had the class!

VintageNancy · 16/10/2011 09:11

My birth preparation is watching "Deliver Me" on Discovery Home and Health as I'll be giving birth in the US (all being well). That combined with books I've been reading and One Born Every Minute USA has me wondering if I could have a homebirth. Not sure what DH would think about that!!
Maybe I should step away from the TV!

SurprisEs · 16/10/2011 10:16

I found all the grunting and screaming really frightening so I only watched a couple of those shows. I'm a bit squeamish to be honest. But I read a lot. Glad I did because at no point did I actually manage to have a good conversation with the MW about labour.

VintageNancy · 16/10/2011 17:14

I've just been to loo and on wiping there was some pink discharge. Sure it's nothing but that hasn't stopped me googling. Will call midwife tomorrow if it continues.

SurprisEs · 16/10/2011 18:06

Try not to worry. But why wait? It's not worth the stress, call the MLU at your local hospital just in case.

VintageNancy · 17/10/2011 10:05

Thank you for the reply SuprisEs - just had text back from midwife. She said if get pain or bleeding worse to see GP. I'm already booked in for 16 week check on Thurs anyway. I've had nothing since yesterday so hopefully all is well.

BeyondLimitsOfTheLivingDead · 17/10/2011 12:58

Have you had sex? Could be that your cervix is just a bit delicate? Seems to happen to a lot of people, so if its stopped and everything else is fine, hopefully nothing to worry about?
Also, could it have been blood in urine rather than discharge? Could be a UTI, which they'll check for Thursday anyway?

Looks like my proper nights sleeps have gone [hsad] Couldnt stop tossing and turning all night again last night. Was all downhill sleep-wise with DS til he was born, so could well be a while til I sleep properly again...
Bloody typical that DS has just started sleeping through and now mammy cant sleep!! [hangry]

mrsb33 · 17/10/2011 13:31

LaTristesse · 17/10/2011 14:27

Good to have you with us mrsb33!

Had my 2nd midwife appt this morning and finally got to hear LO's heartbeat! Am 16 weeks today, and it sounded pretty chilled really. DS's sounded like a racehorse! Maybe I'm going to get a laid-back one... As long as they sleep well that's fine with me!

Hotpotpie · 17/10/2011 14:40

mrsb33 your due two days after me Grin welcome

laTristese a nice laid back baby sounds like heaven fingers crossed!

BeyondLimitsOfTheLivingDead · 17/10/2011 16:37

I just had the most definite kick from my littlest monster!! Had a few maybe flutterings so far, but this was 100% a little kick!!! [hgrin]

JackieJay · 17/10/2011 17:18

Had my 12wk scan today and so far so good. Blood results come back 2moro, so I'll know my risk numbers then, so hoping for the best. DP was really excited to see the tiny arms wiggle and hear the hearbeat. I asked about weight gain since I'm super paranoid about it. My consultant actually said he'd be happy if I actually lost 2-3kgs over the next two months, and that I really don't need to gain anything until after the 20th week. I'm about 78kgs now. I know I'm overweight but was a bit shocked by the suggestion to drop some pounds. All the stuff I'm reading on the internet definitely don't advise losing any weight in the 2nd trimester. I really like my doctor and don't think he'd tell me to do anything unsafe. He gave lots of advice on foods to eat, etc...but has anyone ever been told to lose weight???

Thaleia · 17/10/2011 17:23

Hi mrsb33 - and it's never too late!

I've got Monday Blues. I think I've got the same headache for 1 week now, which isn't true as I was fine in between but .... I just want to rip my head off. I googled and found that one shouldn't take Paracetamol as it increases the risk of asthma and "the short benefit of pain relief might be offset by the long term implications for your unborn child".

Boss said, I shouldn't be so moody and unfriendly, so I guess I have to step up my game tomorrow, headache or not.

And, as I'm on a roll, where is the end of my sickness???? It's the 12th week and still feeling rubbish. To be fair, less but not good enough. And hey, success, I manage now to stay awake 1hrs longer - 8.30pm instead of 7.30pm.

ARRRRGH!

BeyondLimitsOfTheLivingDead · 17/10/2011 17:27

[hshock] at being told to lose weight Jackie !!
How tall are you? 78kilos shouldnt be too far onto the "overweight" bit of the BMI chart? (unless you are 4'2"?) I'm more than that and I'm not into the obese bit?!

BeyondLimitsOfTheLivingDead · 17/10/2011 17:29

Thaleia I'm just about getting over the sickness I think (15+4), I feel a little sick but haven't been sick for a few days
Take one paracetamol rather than two maybe?

JackieJay · 17/10/2011 17:44

I'm 5'4" so don't think I'm technically obese. It sounded like he probably assumed I naturally overeat, and that if I stuck to a healthy plan then I would start losing instead of gaining. I dunno...but he definitely said he'd be pleased if I came back in lighter.

All this stuff is really making my headspin, so I just need to let go of my hangups. I'm going to try my best to lay off the junk and just enjoy being pregnant. Thats my new goal for the month :)

Hotpotpie · 17/10/2011 19:16

beyond how exciting! god I cant wait to feel the baby I have kick envy tonight Grin

Uglymush · 17/10/2011 20:39

Had my 2nd midwife appointment today. Was so exciting hearing baby's heartbeat again. Text DH as soon as I got out - gutted he couldn't be there. Can't believe how fast the little heart beats! I was really worried before the appointment as apart from a bump (that keeps shrinking) I don't really feel pregnant at the moment iyswim
