Join us as we head out of the secretive, scary, slightly sicky first trimester and into the bump emerging, supposedly blossoming, energy boosting second trimester.

vintagenancy how far on are you? and is this your first, im desperate to feel my little one move and I have no ideas what to expect and when, although knowing the way my pregnancy has gone so far this little one will make itself known as late as possible Grin fingers crossed you will feel lots more over the next few days

Nordicmom · 13/10/2011 13:34

Hi Everyone!
Sorry for keeping mum recently but I've been trying to just pass time since our last weeks 10 w scan . I've been an avid reader though... Thought I had to wait for another week to see the next scan at 13w when the nuchal fold thing is done but luckily our surrogate just told us last night that she's having one also on next mon at 12w. So I'll get to see my baba again! And I'll get past that magical 12w finally!!! Been the longest 8 w ever... Oddly turns out she's eating grapes every morning with yogurt and that's what I munch on (just grapes) on my way taking my son to school since thats the only thing I can stomach that early other than maybe pretzels or toast ( my illness makes me feel sick quite often even thought I'm not the one pregnant , what cruel irony...) . So as crazy as it sounds I seem to have her cravings! I guess my baby wants grapes!
Otherwise she seems to be doing ok ,has gotten her nausea under control by regulating her mealtimes carefully ( apparently not half as bad nausea this time though). She's quite exited about all of this working out so far and just very positive but that's just the kind of person she is! She was glad to hear me sounding a bit happier and less worried. I'm getting into a better frame of mind slowly. Still scared and I guess quite cautious because of all the horrid stuff and endless disappointment we've been through in the last 4 years... I'm hoping I'll feel better and can start to get a bit exited as the pregnancy gets further! I have been thinking of names and looking at equipment . We've got quite a bit of the stuff but since our DS is already almost 7 we do need to replace some things like the baby carseat etc. And of course if it's a girl we'll be needing some clothes:) Anyway can't wait to find out the sex and get going in the preparations. I'll definitely enjoy all that since I'm missing a lot of the other stuff in this process not being able to carry the baby myself :( I don't think my husband will dare to tell me off for getting anything I want really since we've been waiting for this for so long! We agreed once the 12/13w scan is done we'll tell rest of the people who don't know yet and I can start getting things. Will definitely take advantage of the January sales!!!

VintageNancy · 13/10/2011 17:09

hotpot I'm 15 weeks with my first so I am more than likely imagining things!

Thaleia · 13/10/2011 17:21

Back from the partents in Germany - and a lot heavier & hungrier :-(.

I promised myself that I won't go whale, being a comfy size 14 already, but not sure if I can live up to it now. Feel awful about it as I used to be a "happy 18" before losing the weight. How much have you put on already?

My scan is next week, I'll be 13 weeks (+/- 2 according to my calculations). I hope everything is ok. Congrats to all which had their scans already and good results!

Nordicmom · 13/10/2011 17:22

vintage i did feel my son at 16w and that was my first pregnancy so it is possible...
Every one wondering about the sex of their babies... I've heard that both body parts develop from the same thing and that you can't tell until after 16w .

Thumbelina79 · 13/10/2011 18:38

5am wee! I have that followed by the 1.30hr awake grumpy time.

Just told the in laws - they were dead nice BUT as soon as they started to talk about anything else I wanted to change the subject back. I didnt I ate the cheese cake instead.

Thaleia - dont worry honey, weight is not the big deal they make it out to be. It comes and goes and this is good fat. You lost it before, lady you can again.

Bearcrumble · 13/10/2011 19:18

nordicmum They can tell at the 12 week scan with about 80% accuracy. The nub between the legs looks exactly the same but the angle at which it is pointing is a clue. If it is sticking straight up it is more likely to be a boy and if it sticks out at a right angle it is more likely to be a girl. I was told at 12 weeks that I was having a boy with DS and this time they guessed it was a girl. Well we'll find out soon enough if they were right!

Nordicmom · 13/10/2011 20:21

I researched the finding out the baby's sex issue on the internet . It said that it is sometimes possible to make a guess based on the angle of the nub around 14 w LPM but at best it would produce only a little more than 50/50 accurate results... I wish I could find out as soon as possible ! Really curious!

Bearcrumble · 13/10/2011 20:31

Well I was told by Professor Campbell who did my scan with DS.

www.ob-ultrasound.net/campbell.html

"Professor Campbell is perhaps the most well-known figure in the field of Obstetrical and Gynecological ultrasound to date and his contributions to the specialty have truely been legendary. His research in ultrasonography, prenatal diagnosis, fetal medicine and therapy span an incredible number of important areas and in his unfailing preserverence in breaking new grounds in the last 30 years he has contributed to over 500 papers and articles and has been author or co-author of at least 50 books and monographs."

LaTristesse · 13/10/2011 20:34

Agree with Thumbelina, Thaleia - don't sweat it about the weight; our bodies change to accommodate the needs of the baby and the birth, and you can wear your extra weight with pride- I love not having to hold my tummy in! And anyway, I found after 6 months of breastfeeding I was back to where I started easily.

Got our Nuchal result today; low risk 1 in 2700. I'll take that!

2nd midwife appt on Monday; can't wait to hear the heartbeat again...!

Nordicmom · 13/10/2011 20:34

Well when ever it is I'm looking forward to finding out!

Bearcrumble · 13/10/2011 20:39

Apologies if that last post sounds snippy - re-reading it I can see it seems a bit that way.

SurprisEs · 13/10/2011 21:41

Evening everyone!

I had my booking in appointment today but forgot to mention the sinus as DD was desperate to leave. I had to take her with me as I had no childcare. The info you gave me has been helpful though. Another excuse for DH to go without pillows!
We struggled to hear the heartbeat but the MW said it's probably due to the anterior placenta. I'm having my bloods done tomorrow.

Hotpot I'm hoping for a homebirth. It all depends on wether I move in time or not. Are you using a pool? DH isn't very keen on the homebirth but he'll just go along with it. "whatever makes you happy" seems to be the answer for everything. Boring as I wish we'd chat about it more, but nice of him.

Bunsouttheoven · 13/10/2011 22:19

Hello, I'm another long time lurker.

Had my nuchal scan today when they moved my due date a week forward to 17th. (I will update the stats when I get moment). Anyway scan was fine, still amazing third time round. Also had a lovely sonographer who was enthusiastic & explanatory too.

I also get pregnancy insomnia, no problem getting to sleep but wake at 3 or 4am & then get back to sleep just as it's time to get up. Arghh.

I can also add thrush to the bloody annoying pregnancy joys.

LaTristesse · 14/10/2011 14:52

Oh god thrush... I suffered terribly in my first pg and am dreading it kicking in again... Got it bf-ing too which was agony. Thanks for reminding me bun ;)
and welcome! Smile

HollyPockett · 14/10/2011 18:18

Hi All,

I'm awake every three hours to wee, what's that all about? Pip is the size of a lemon, how the hell does he/she wake me up every three hours already!

Plus, I now have the worst cold. I'm absolutely full of it and it's getting worse. I'm feeling very sorry for myself so I've eaten a whole slab of mint Areo! I can't taste it but it makes me feel better :-)

newmummyvicky · 14/10/2011 20:10

hi,
I think ive been feeling movements?
mainly at night it seems like turning in my stomach, im 17 weeks next week, whoo hooo
But ive felt no flutering or butterfly movement! hopefull i will over the next few weeks. But now counting down till 20wks scan.

Thaleia I am size 14 too, ive put on half a stone slowly creeping up to the 12 stone mark! eeeek!!!!
Oh well they do say anywhere between 2 and 4 stone is normal. Im just trying to eat healthy for the baby although treating myself to the odd treats:o

We are not going to find out want the baby is, being our first we down dont really mind.
Ive been buying lots of clothes, not really sure how many will we need just mainly short and long sleve baby grows, sleeping- growbags and blankets.
We also have a crib, bottles but i do plan to breast feed. We also have a Baby mat and bath rest, and a baby moniter- i work in boots so i got a few bit on double discont day!

Hope everyone is keeping well and the sickness is passing?

ive been getting really bad back pain lately, but bump seems to be not growing too much! Been looking into anti natal classes, my mw says i must book up soon for when im 30ish weeks as they get very busy!!!! x x

Ains16 · 14/10/2011 21:02

Hi All

Popped back on here looking to see how everyone was doing and am so happy to hear of all the positive scans, I was due to have my 12 week scan today but DH couldnt make it so we changed it to next Fri. Feels like its been a lifetime coming cos reckon am 13 + 4 but at least we're down to less than a week. With my middle pregnancy being a missed miscarriage am so keen to get this reassurance....spesh as just dont feel pregnant any more?! Know its normal for sickness n stuff to go n to start feeling better but is it normal to feel nothingish??? I dont have any back pain that anyone else is having.....lol talk about never being happy....not happy when sore n yuck feeling but not happy when feel fine too...early pregnancy is such a rollercoaster!

Hotpotpie · 14/10/2011 21:43

SurprisEs Im not planning on a pool to be honest we dont have the room, OH will have to lift me in and out of the bath if I feel the need for water

I think Ive got a bit of thrush too at the moment - which begs the question what I can take being as the Chemist said nothing!?

Twittle · 14/10/2011 22:19

Ains16 I think it is normal to get to a point where you don't feel pregnant after the intial tests and first few weeks have passed by (unless you have sickness etc) at least that is how I have felt for the past 2 weeks and so was v. relieved at my dating scan today to see my little baby (actually it looked worryingly large....) bouncing around! I am sure that once you have your scan you will feel lots better!

My date has gone forward a few days (result) and so my EDD is now 23rd April if anyone has time and knows how could they please update me on the stats - thank you! Still have to wait 2-3 weeks for nuchal results and so am still unsure as to whether to start telling people as don't want to tempt fate... have told close friends and family already, I suppose what will be will be!

The main problem I have at the moment is ezcema that is out of control it is the worst it has ever been..... any tips from fellow sufferers would be gratefully received! The MW told me not to use my normal steroid creams although doc said I could, am afraid I have to as nothing else touches it although it does worry my that I am using them and somehow it may cause some damamge...??!!

Sorry to hear that some of you are already having trouble sleeping.... I'm not looking forward to that, can't remember last time how I found sleeping.... and it's only 15 months ago ...... maybe its a good thing that I don't remember!! Grin

Bunsouttheoven · 15/10/2011 00:31

hotpot the chemists won't sell you anything for thrush if you tell them you are pregnant. My dr prescribed canestan pessaries & cream. You can buy them OTC but just don't mention you are pregnant but they are fine to use. Hope you get some relief, thrush is rubbish.

LaTristesse · 15/10/2011 07:35

Agree with Bun, my GP gave me cream and pessaries last time although the chemist had refused to serve me...

cheaperthantherapy · 15/10/2011 09:13

Hotpot - I had the pessary last time too - alternatively you can use natural yoghurt... Never done it myself but imagine it would be a messy exercise :)

Hotpotpie · 15/10/2011 09:18

cheaperthantherapy eeee! I think Ill go and get the pessaries and cream Grin Im in a right bad mood this week, thrush, a cold and now looks like I may be developing SPD, I need the knackers yard!!

BeyondLimitsOfTheLivingDead · 15/10/2011 13:02

Just wanna add that I had a pessary too last time, seems its very common to get thrush! [hgrin]
cheaperthan apparently the easiest way to do it is to dip a tampon in yoghurt. Never tried it though!

twittle I have psoriasis on my scalp (and random other patches) that cleared up completely with DS. I joked between pregnancies that I was going to become a permanent surrogate for the rest of my life as it was so much better... It is no better this time [henvy] Wonder if that means DC2 is a girl...?
No advice as nothing touches mine but steroid lotion (which I dont like to use as long term scalp use can lead to other problems), but you have my sympathy!!
