Join us as we head out of the secretive, scary, slightly sicky first trimester and into the bump emerging, supposedly blossoming, energy boosting second trimester.

As I'm way behind (due date end of April) .... my Scan is tonight :-).

As a result, I had a super crass nightmare where is was just bleeding in the bathroom. So, I just hope (and be nervous) that everything is ok.

Work wise, I have no patience anymore. I really need to work on my fuse and it blows out 2x hour and I really upset people.

I'm still so very tired, went to bed at 8.30pm yesterday but woke up at 2,3,4,5,6am to go to the loo or because it was too hot/ cold.

When will it be better??

Nordicmom · 19/10/2011 12:59

As far as teething goes we did have a lot of broken nights between the ages of 5months( still remember finding that first tooth :) ) and about 2 y when DS finally had gotten all of them. He was definitely bothered by it unlike my cousin's son who didn't make much of a fuss. Just tried to manage with those cold teethers you put in the fridge , calgel or similar and a couple of times when he was really poorly I did give him a painkiller... I was relieved when it was all finished . Now he's been loosing the baby teeth for the last year or so and is also getting some brand new molars in the back which hurts him but he is dealing with better than a little kid.
Dropping the aft nap was a bit of a tough time too . He was about 18 months or a bit younger when he stopped sleeping in the morning and about 2 y and a bit when he dropped the aft one . He was just standings, playing and talking in his bed not able to fall a sleep but around 5 pm so tired at dinner that it caused a lot of tantrums and hell at bath time and bedtime. After a while he got used to it . It's like every other milestone . It'll pass and then there's something else:).
I also do worry a bit how I'll juggle it all with the two with me being ill and not having any help from parents ( mine are in Finland and in - laws not in London) And my husband works long hours. Ofcourse it helps that my son is older and at school but I do have to do the school run etc and I don't drive . I guess I'll be asking grandma over quite often for a visit to help me and maybe i'll have to consider getting some other help too ... With my son I was exhausted between when he stopped sleeping in the day at all and when he started nursery two aft a week ( that's all he ever did so it was still quite full on until school). There wasn't a break in sight for the whole day until the evening . Those few hours when he was at nursery were a godsend ! When he first went to school I felt lost the first few weeks ... Didn't know what to do with myself:) . I did miss him terribly . They do grow up so quickly.

Nordicmom · 19/10/2011 13:19

Oh yes I forgot ... The weight gain ; with DS I put nothing on ( maybe 1,5 kg) the first trimester but then about 5 stones!!!! rest of the pregnancy ,because I was nauseous but not sick exept the first day of feeling unwell at 5 w exactly ( couldn't even keep water in and had to lie still in bed for the whole day but I was still sick 5-6 times ... Felt like dying) and the the only time I didn't feel bad was while eating or sleeping. I did then loose 12kg at least in the first week after birth so must have been a lot of water and stuff too but the rest of the weight (18kg) took me 2 years to get rid off... I think I was very unlucky with the never ending nausea and everyone is different with how much they put on. I was never weighted or said anything about it to though and had a completely healthy pregnancy with no excess weight gain related problems. No preg diabetes etc luckily.
Also every other time I got pregnant after that (10 times but all miscarried ) I got nauseaus within days of conceiving . Pregnancy doesn't seem to agree with me ;)

SurprisEs · 19/10/2011 19:42

Beyond I don't think so. I think it was a joint decision between him and the area manager. At least it's what I gathered. But there's huge satisfaction in knowing they got rid of him. He was a terrible manager. Even the regular customers we had noticed it when he joined us.

choppychopster · 19/10/2011 21:58

Just added myself to the stats thread. Due on 6th April.

I've got a 5 year old DD and working full time, so I feel like I've not really had much time to focus on this pregnancy.

Hotpotpie · 20/10/2011 10:33

thaleia how did it go?

I think im very very lucky at the moment I still sleep the clock round I am LOUSY with a lack of sleep!

Well I suddenly appear to have rather a large bump, I think its mostly wind and its a bit achey so that would back the theory up I suppose.
Ive had some wonderful news with regard to my finances today so I really do have a smile a mile wide I feel like I can finally start relaxing and looking foreward to the baby coming Grin

BeyondLimitsOfTheLivingDead · 20/10/2011 14:52

Less than four weeks til my 20 week scan!!
Can finally relax then, am still constantly on edge, thinking something is going to go wrong. Dont know why, I wasnt this bad with DS

Btw, 168 days to go!! [hgrin]

KatAndKit · 20/10/2011 17:43

Had 15 week midwife appointment today and got to hear the heartbeat! Has reassured me for a little while at least. And am in the maternity trousers now and can see the start of the bump showing. It's all getting very exciting now :)

VintageNancy · 20/10/2011 18:01

Kat I heard heartbeat today too :) So exciting.

Thumbelina79 · 20/10/2011 19:12

Morning Sickness has stopped! 14weeks today. Started to tell family too.

Nordicmom · 20/10/2011 20:03

I still haven't heard the heartbeat, our surrogate has:(... I really hope she'll manage to send us a film of the scan next week!

KatAndKit · 20/10/2011 20:06

A film? Wow they must do things differently over there. My hospital has a strict no cameras allowed rule.
About the heartbeat, has she got a doppler? I've got one and it came with some stuff that apparently enables you to record it onto your computer as an mp3. Perhaps that would be worth looking into, as then she could email the hearbeat to you and you could listen to it whenever you were thinking about the baby. Have you got any scan pics yet? Must be hard being so far away from all the action but since she has heard the heartbeat, it does sound like all is going really well so far.

SurprisEs · 20/10/2011 21:12

Hi everyone!

Sickness is gone here too. I'm still sick sometimes but it's because of the sinus. The mucus builds up in my throat.

Can't believe some people are so close to the 29 week scan! Exciting!

BeyondLimitsOfTheLivingDead · 20/10/2011 21:32

Well I havent been sick for a few days, but still feeling sick! :( Jealous of everyone thats okay, lol
I second asking her to record it Nordic , surely she could do it on her phone whiles shes having a check?
I think they put the scan on a disk, so she could email it over as soon as she has it :)

VintageNancy · 20/10/2011 21:34

Nordic I recorded mine on phone today and emailed it to DH as he's away. Worked great.

Nordicmom · 20/10/2011 22:34

She emailed us the 10 w scan pictures which weren't very detailed yet and tried to send us a a little movie too but that didn't really work out we only got a couple of seconds of it.The next scan is at 13w next wed and those pictures should be interesting! Looking forward to them :)I Guess it'll be at the scan at 5 1/2 m when we'll go to Texas after New Year's when we can have a proper look...I have mixed emotions in general . This whole situation is so weird. I suppose I'll feel like this the whole pregnancy until the baby's born . It'll be odd going to buy things for it without a bump.

Nordicmom · 20/10/2011 22:36

We'll have to ask her to record the heartbeat next time...

Thaleia · 21/10/2011 12:20

I'm doubling up as I just started a new post but thought you might be a better resource:

I've just heard back re me Antenatal screening tests for Down and Edward's syndrome.

Being 34, my risk pool is

1:319 for Downs
1:519 for Edwards

taking the blood and scan into consideration it's down to

1: 6372 for Downs and
1: 11753 for Edwards

Did someone has similar good results?

It seems too good to be true and I'm more worried than before :-(

BeyondLimitsOfTheLivingDead · 21/10/2011 13:54

Flu jabs...

Popped in to my doctors surgery (had a call as I'd forgotten to sign my exemption form...) and there was a poster on the wall about flu jabs. Asked if I was supposed to have received a letter to make an appointment (as I did with DS for swine flu) and was told by the receptionist that they dont send letters?

So don't forget you need to make appointments ladies [hgrin]

Bearcrumble · 21/10/2011 16:45

Thaleia Those are great results. I am 38 and mine were:

Background risk
1:125 for T21
1:232 for T13/18

Adjusted risk
1:2503 for T21
1:4636 for T13/18

My sickness has eased a lot, I get the occasional heave but nothing like before 14 weeks (am 15 weeks now).

Had my flu jab a couple of weeks ago.

Constipation still horrible. May start lactulose. Still weeing at least twice a night. DS has started waking up at 6am for the day which is rubbish. It was more like 6.45 for ages.

LaTristesse · 21/10/2011 20:50

Going for my flu jab tomorrow Beyond Grin

digitalgirl · 22/10/2011 10:11

Just getting this back on to my Threads I'm On list.

Hope all's well with everyone. I have a reassurance scan later today (14+5). Combined screening results were low for Down's but they didn't test for anything else.

Anyone else have a very itchy bump? Not sure if it's just a pg symptom or a steroid withdrawal symptoms. Have a doctors appt on Tuesday so will mention it then. Also will ask re flu jab. It's terrible that they're not really advertising it unless you happen to be in a gp's surgery. There's no mention of it at my ante-natal clinic.

Right must drag my arse out of bed. Bit of a late one last night.

BeyondLimitsOfTheLivingDead · 22/10/2011 10:37

Bah, I was sick again this morning! :(

Just been to have my jab. Hoping I'm not as ill as I was after the swine flu one! Luckily DH is on his 4 off, so hes around if I am ill :)

AprilAl · 22/10/2011 11:47

I only got one number for Down's too digitalgirl, but it was very low and since the Edward's risk appears to generally be lower than Down's I'm going to assume that would be good news too.

Thaleia those numbers are great, please don't fret about them. That can go on the "don't worry about" pile now. Surely our "worry about" piles are way too big as it is without us adding extra stuff to them!

Having said that, I found something new to fret about yesterday. Apparently some women's feet grow a size during pregnancy and never return to their normal size afterwards. But...but...none of my shoes will fit! Oh the horror! Shock

LaTristesse · 22/10/2011 12:53

My Mum's feet grew a size and never went back. Mine stayed the same lasttimeand I'm hoping it'll b the same this time as I've just spent a fortune on a warm pair of Uggs.

The queue was massive for the flu jabs this morning, loads of old folks moaning, and only a couple of baby-bumpers that I could see. No side effects so far...

I think I heard the itchiness was skin stretching digital, i've had itchy boobs: well annoying!
