Oh gosh - I MUST try harder at remembering to take my folic acid.

welcome Rrrrayray

thedogwalker · 07/10/2011 18:54

Hi all, DH is going to work in Afghanistan for 6 months Sad. No phone lines in, so I have to wait for him to ring me, we knew it was coming which is why I wanted to try and time the pregnancy and thankfully God was smiling down and everything worked out just right. I will miss him terribly, last time he had to go and work away in a hot desert place, I went too, but not this time with having DS1. He will back for the best bit Grin, to meet his new DD or DS.
Kveta not sure what vitamins to take, I always take folic acid a good 4 -6 months before starting ttc but during pregnancy I just eat alot of fresh fruit and vegetables. We are supposed to avoid runny eggs, pate Sad, unpasturised cheeses Sad and uncooked meats like salami, chorizo etc. If you are going to heat them then chorizo and salami are ok. There's loads more, just can't recall them all, my book of can and can't eat needs an airing me thinks.
Hope everyone is doing well, take care xx

thedogwalker · 07/10/2011 18:56

Sorry didn't see all posts, welcome Rrrrayray. Yes MyMama get those folic acid down your neck. I take one with my morning decaf, it's like a ritual so I don't forget.

HorseyGirl1 · 07/10/2011 20:26

Hey all hope you are all doing OK today. I swear I'm getting a tummy, but was a bit worried today. I had a little bit of brown when I wiped today. Hoping it's implantation - does anyone know how long that can last? I had it last time too early on so hoping it will be OK but I know it's still very early days for me. I booked my doc and will see her next week.

working9while5 · 07/10/2011 23:30

Ah Starlight, it is even your thread!

I am a second timer too, ds 22 months, also 9th June I think.. only time and scans will tell!

I am terribly nervous this time, I don't know why. I have practically convinced myself it ain't going to last and am then suspiciously wondering if this is Some Sort of Sign. So I will possibly not come on here very much until I have a scan as I got a bit mad in early pregnancy, but marking my place...

Congrats to all! Horseygirl, I had lots of brown discharge in my first pregnancy and all was well too so fingers crossed for you. I hate these early days!

Rrrrayray · 08/10/2011 07:42

Working I know what you mean about being worried. 1st time around i wasnt worried at all, i didn't think i'd get at all sick either (which i did, BADLY for 7 months!) but this time around i'm a nervous wreck, i think it has alot to do with my sister in law having 3 MC in the past year. Its going to be HARD to tell her when the times comes too.

TDW Lets hope your DH being away makes it all fly. At least like you say hes home for the important part. I have 2 friends with husbands in the navy, i don't know how they do the 6 month stints. Hat off to you.

We have guests this weekend, i was wiped last night & in bed by 9.30pm haha. Off to peppa world with the kids today. (luckily only 20 mins from us)

No symptoms here apart from a tad tired. Although, oddly, i had, and still have the sort of gurgling etc you have before your period. That said, i remmeber having the feeling my period was coming in my first pregancny. It never did.

Taking Springcare prenatal. Its an american one. I was in america when i was so sick last time & their supplements saved me, as i took them before bed and it was about all i could keep down for a while. They are also much cheaper than UK ones.... About $20 for a massive pot that'd do most of your pregnancy.

working9while5 · 08/10/2011 09:37

I found this second baby survival guide at the local library yesterday and though I just had a flick through it, it helped to clarify why I am a bit ambivalent.. I think there's so much more to consider this time, I know how sick I was too Rrrayray, I have more realism about birth, how will baby fit in with ds, childcare costs higher which may impact my back to work costs, more of an awareness of how fragile they are when they are newborn at full-term so how vulnerable they are now when they are barely even dots inside us. I just wish I could switch my brain off!

StarlightMcKenzie · 08/10/2011 10:20

I think it is a bit different for me. I have a tribunal looming for my DS's education in Jan, and it really is a big deal, so I am kind of ignoring the pregnancy until that is over by which time I will be well into the second trimester.

OP posts:
StarlightMcKenzie · 08/10/2011 10:24

Also in terms of costs of a new baby and childcare, we have had to make quite drastic compromises to get our ds' needs met. By Easter ds' education will be out of our hands. Whether we win or lose the tribunal, he will be in full-time education and there just won't be the TIME to have all the therapy that we are currently paying for.

So, I'm expecting to feel relatively rich!

Rrrrayray I was at peppa pig world the other week, it was really busy, ended up taking DS back into normal part of park as there were no queues for the rides there and as he was only 13 months old he didn't know who peppa was anyway. Its aout 45 mins from where I live so plan on tkaing him there lots next year. Hope you have a great time.
I agree with the 2nd pg being more traumatic. Trying to weigh everything up, childcare and how will I cope getting 2 LOs ready, getting to work and then getting 2 LOs to bed at night, then the house work, all while DH works away and only comes home at weekends, not sure if I can do it. Really doubting my ability to be able to adpat, think I might have taken on more than I can handle. DH doesn't think there's an issue Hmm.
hope everyone is having a good weekend and maybe get some new members Smile.

I have just added myself. Got 2-3 weeks on a CB digi last saturday so have now had a week to come to terms with #2 on the way. Have a 4 month old too. Have nausea in the evenings, tender boobies, erect nipples so pretty much the same symptoms as DC1. If this pregnancy is like DC1's I will be happy! I felt like a naughty child getting it confirmed at the GPs, him telling me it will be tough and a year between pregnancies was better for my body didnt help!! I know that, thanks!!!
Good luck all :)

Adding myself too.

When are you supposed to ring and book in with midwife? I feel it is too early somehow? Also had to change away from the one I saw through pg at 40 weeks (yes, 40 weeks!) because I found out she had missed a serious result on a bloodtest (I had elevated liver salts, which is a sign of obstetric cholestasis and she had totally and utterly ignored the fact I was scratching and itching like a demon despite me going on and on about it). The one who replaced her was even worse, the first one was called Babs and the second Lol. Lol just swore all the time and when she came postnatally sat in my front room with a bluetooth headset on going on about needing to "interface with you soon". Not really looking forward to meeting either of them again, but Babs is the one at my GP surgery so what am I going to do? Who would I ring to change them?

I would love an independent m/w but it is £3K. I haven't ruled it out yet even though it would be a tall order financially. I have made contact with one who also offers doula services so may just consider that nearer the time, depending on the birth I go for..

Perhaps we could share one working Wink

Actually, I do remember the second pregnancy being pretty traumatic, because, well, you KNOW that time what it all entails........

Having said that I cannot rate highly enough my second birth. I would do it again a hundred times over, but never EVER my first

OP posts:
StarlightMcKenzie · 08/10/2011 13:04

I'm not sure really when is the right time to 'register' yourself as pg. My community midwives were okay actually. A bit short of time to listen to my concerns or talk or ever discuss the birth plan (the mw during labour was the first person to see it and her face was quite a picture), but generally competent.

But I've moved areas and have no idea what my options are even.

Hi,

I'm nervously saying hello after getting a really faint line today. I'm not going to add myself to the list in case I'm going mad(though my best friend can see a line too)

Hi all and big congratulations! Got a BFP this morning so I make myself about 3 weeks pregnant. Got DS age 4 and DD age 2 already. Very excited and nervous, not sure how I am going to cope with 3! Had tingly boobs last few days and then today, after getting result, threw up, so not sure if it was a morning sickness or hysteria setting in!

Can I ask, does anyone do pilates and are you carrying on in these early weeks?

Evening all!
Welcome to all the newbies and congratulationsSmile
hope all is ok kveta?

Well i think i might have to go out and buy some new bra's tomorrow,i have gone up a size at least and i'm ssooo sore!
Still not sleeping too well and seem to wake up in the early hours every morning for no apparent reason,on a positive note i'm past the point i miscarried last time which was 5.4wks and i'm now 5.6wks tomorrow,
yes i know its only by a couple of days but it makes me feel betterGrin

Carty80 · 08/10/2011 19:42

Well done on passing that point, must be a relief and each subsequent day that passes Mrsshears

Argh new bra's! Was my birthday in August and my mum bought me some lovely, pretty bra's rather than the usual grey ones I wear, they won't fit for long! Will you go for non wired now or slightly later?

Also anyone else suffering from headaches? Am sat here with a strip on my head which is supposed to help, hasn't done so far. I am right in remembering I shouldn't take paracetamol aren't I?

mrsshears · 08/10/2011 19:55

Thanks carty
I just splurged on a new wardrobe before i got my BFP as i had more or less given up hope, looks like i'll be doing it again for maternity wear!
Regarding bra's i go against the grain a little and stick to underwired until i start breast feeding as i find non wired really difficult to wear.
I could be wrong but i think paracetamol is the only thing you can take when pregnant? i'm sure someone else will clarify soon.
