sorry for those of you having a rotten time at the moment. I have to admit i am more than ready to have my last day, i am so tired.

caz sorry you're going through all this, i'll echo everyone else, you're in the best place. Don't leave until you're ready.

Poppet45 · 16/09/2011 21:54

Oh my lovelies I'm really remembering just how hard it is at the end of pregnancy from this thread. And it IS soooo tough, you guys are doing amazing. Chins up ladies.
Caz sweetie, be as brave as you are for just a wee bit longer. You've done such a tremendous job, you're an inspiration. Now you're on the final straight and soon you'll be coming home with that little boy of yours in your arms. But not yet. You're in the exact right place - those contraction stopping drugs have worked for you. That's brilliant! I'm one of the women they didn't work for. But if they work - that means they'll work again for you if needs be. Which again is brilliant. Are you around 32 weeks or so?? That means Xander is in a really, really strong position. Even if he came now - and it doesn't sound like he's going anywhere just yet - he'd be one of the ginormobabies :D in the neonatal unit, and they really are so much more ready for the world at that age. My friend's wee girl Olivia was born at 32 weeks, and was home within 3 weeks and breastfeeding! That said, I still vividly remember how gut wrenchingly terrifying my contractions with W were and that feeling that it was all unstoppable and too soon. So I'm sending you the biggest hugs and positive vibes for your lovely wee boy. This is going to be a story you tell him when he's older. It is.
Folic More hugs to you too lady. Those final two weeks of work sound far too much for you to do. So you know what, if you can't do it all don't try at the risk of you and the babies health. They'll cope and if you are planning on returning after your mat leave I'm betting they wouldn't even remember whether you did or did not finish everything on your 'to do' pile before you left 12 months previously. I'm still mulling over what I did wrong to see Willow arrive so soon, so you put yourselves first please because 'if onlies' are no fun. As for the baby shopping, I have some breast pads you can have - turns out I didn't need them this time either :D and I had DD with just a pair of knickers, contact lenses and my toothbrush in a bag and we were just fine. Those shops really will be open for your DH if needs be, and you don't need that room ready for months and months. DS didn't get his own decorated room til we moved into our home, and he was a good 6 months or so!
As for us - I had another afternoon of baby cuddles. I can't tell you how much I'm falling in love with her every day... the way she yawns, has hiccups that sound like a small squeeky animal, the way she smiles and grins in her sleep. It's just amazing. And she's gaining weight every day - because of that today I finally saw how much she looks like her brother - she's not just a teeny scrap of humanity these days, she's one of our family. Our family, I love saying that. And if she's gained again tomorrow they're cutting down her weight gain formula and upping my breast milk to 50:50 - plus she'll finally be 3 lbs something! Hugs to you all.

chipmonkey · 16/09/2011 22:54

Caz, I know what you are worrying about but that chubby little guy on your 4D photo looks the picture of health
And if you click on my profile or look at my FB photos, the guy in the Buzz Lightyear outfit is my 32 weeker and he has turned out gorgeous!
Also agree with Poppet re the 32 weekers who look massive beside our little scraps!
Hang in there, we are all thinking of you!

Folicacid · 17/09/2011 03:51

Well I woke up and sat bolt upright, have come down stairs to write a few work emails that were playing on mind, have a glass of milk and a choccie digestive and have a proper catch up on here.

I'm bowled over by everyone's messages- I genuinely am. Thank you all so much, what a caring bunch- or convincing liars Wink I know it is nowt really in comparison to other people's baby worries

Stay where you are sunshine! Caz I hope you are managing to get some rest-gawd knows hospitals are not places for rest and relaxation- and that the drugs are working.

Voodoo I've read back far enough to see what a hellish week you have been having too Blush at my wailing about being exhausted when you have had all that to contend with. OH's new job I bet will put a whole new perspective on things and will be a real boost. I fancied that cot in white, but am checking with pal who works in JL (on mat leave at mo) as she bought a drop sided cot from JL and returned it due to the drop sided mechanism being a bit shit so I want to see if it is that one. I can update you if you want? Their malmo cot is also resonably priced so that could be a contender for us.

And In Other News, friend I had round at weekend phoned to say she knows a good plasterer- it's her son in law. When I was bemoaning tradesmen and lack of baby room progress she was in full sympathy. She was relaying this to her husband and his jaw dropped as if to say errr hello? your son in law is a plasterer...she had completely forgotten! So I called him yesterday and he came the same day for a quote, just waiting for that. (And in a plasterer's van so it must be true) He says would fit us in at short notice (I think pal may have had a word- I was speaking to her about my work stresses).

Sorry not to name check everyone who replied to talk me off the ledge. You know who you are

You are all worth your weight in gold (which let's face it is loads at the moment...what with rising price of gold and our rising collective weight Wink)

Na night...

voodoomunkee · 17/09/2011 07:01

Folic, my rubbishy week was the fault of my stupid OH who had got himself wound up and my inability to out up with him I think! Honestly I totally get the work stress am busy organising projects for other people cos i won't be here to see them and it's making me manic that they might mess them up! Nothing we can do about it though. I'm torn between that cot And a CPR bed for the same price. As my mum and dad are buying it and she's pointed that one out i wouldn't feel comfOrtable asking for one that was more expensive as she will probably be adding the sprung mattress on as well. I am a little unsure having tried the dropside as it is a little jerky. You have to depress the kick pedal and hold it in with your foot and pull up and out the dropside. It may be easier with practice! My mum wants to ring up and order it today so am going to donsome research this morning and for the pram I have seen as well. Mamas and papas sola, with the car seat for £275. I like it, OH likes it and I think it's a good price. The other option is a city mini jogger. Thoughts anyone? I rely on the knowledge of others as I haven't a clue!
Hope everyone is ok, Xander staying put and our gorgeous girls are getting stronger every day.

Merlioness · 17/09/2011 08:22

voodoo completely biased here, but I love the city mini jogger. I bought it. It's super easy to fold (one-handedly), folds really small, super light, manouvers beautifully, comes in awesome colours (though not in Singapore), has loads of accessories and you can get a bassinet to fit into teh frame if you wish.
Anyway, the review on Mumsnet puts it top for three wheelers.

Sorry, as I said, completely biased and I love whizzing round the flat with it empty one handedly. Sorry, very sad, I know Blush

Downpoint so far for me is the fact that reaching the basket is not easy from the back, but absolutely fine from the side :)

Merlioness · 17/09/2011 08:24

Oh...and check out the review section in general and go to a store to have a play around with the various strollers. Took me 3 trips, but it was great to fold/unfold, push, etc the strollers to get an idea.

voodoomunkee · 17/09/2011 08:30

Hiya, yeah we had a play in John Lewis and in Fenwicks yesterday and narrowed it down to the two !! OH loves the City Mini, loves the fold and I love how easy it is to push but I had pushchairs that faced me for the other dc's so the fact that it doesnt is a downside. The Mamas and Papas one is not as light but for a pram with a removable seat base and a car seat attachement I like how easy it is to do. However OH doesnt love it as much but he does love the car seat attachment. Argghh. I would love them both! Or at least the mini jogger from about age 1.... Also the only colours OH and I can agree on is black so it limits us anyways! I need to make a decision today as well :( Read reviews on both and I am still no clearer!!!

Folicacid · 17/09/2011 09:05

Voodoo and Merlioness (what is a merlioness my the way?)

I've sent pal another message about the cot, I'm pretty sure it is this one as it wasn't an expensive cot, and she had it for a few months and then returned it due to drop side. Does itn have to be bought today? At least you know with JL then they'll return it easily if it does start to play up

I've also got an opinion on both those buggies for what it's worth. We're going for a baby jogger city mini with bassinet so that baby is front facing for first few months. They seem to be out of stock a lot of places though so I'm off to fife to a pram shop next week to check out their 4 wheeler just as a last minute thing before buying.

The Sola, is very popular so I have acouple of friends with it. Neither that happy- I think the complaint is the wheels, sticky wheels and awkward to get up and down pavements after a few months due to locking or something. I also ruled out mamas and papas really early on due to cutomer service, have seen online here that it is terrible and I'm crap at complainng and taking things back so that's not for me.

That's my penneth worth!

Merlioness · 17/09/2011 09:08

Oh dear :(
If you are happy with LO facing forward from a bit later, then you can get the bassinnet for the City Mini. It can be put on facing you, which was important for me. Oh...and it comes with the car seat adaptor and you can strip the normal stroller thing off, so you have a proper pram. There should be a picture on my profile of what it looks like.
Funny enough here too it was DH who loved the City Mini and I wasn't convinced at first.
Maybe let it rest for a little while and then go back to the shop to have another play with both?

Folicacid · 17/09/2011 09:10

bambino direct good prices for baby city mini jogger.

Merlioness · 17/09/2011 09:13

Folic, the Merlion is Singapore's maskot. It's basically a lion with a fishtail. I just made the lion female, as "Merlion" was already taken (by a lady that has been living in Singapore for over 5 years) and my last name was a bit misleading :)

Folicacid · 17/09/2011 09:14

Merlioness how easy have you found stripping off the BCMJ to out the bassinet on? I've still not found a ship with it in stock so alhtough this is what i want, I've only seen it with the compact carrycot which you just clip on.

I'm a whisker away from just ordering it without having stripped it and attached it in RL- is that a bit mad? Can't find any videos showing how it is done.

Folicacid · 17/09/2011 09:18

Aaaah merlioness very fitting (and fierce girlfren) didn't get that link but found on wiki, spose could have done that before! If I make it to Australia whilst on mat leave (have family there, possible pipe dream) i'll meet you at the stopover at the statue with our baby joggers! Grin

Merlioness · 17/09/2011 09:20

Folic really simple. The normal stroller seat is all poppers and velcro, so took us maybe 3 minutes to strip it to the frame. We then reattached the collapsing strap, attached the plastic supports for the bassinet, which was the first bit that took any thinking IYSWIM? All in all 5-10 minutes and it's done. This was without the instructions, as we bought the bassinet ex-display.

We hadn't seen how it was attached before buying. And we only took the shop's word for it that this bassinet actually fitted the stroller Shock, as this is the slightly bigger bassinet which is aimed at the elite, but attaches just the same. The plastic supports even say "L" and "R" on them and go round one of the metal nuts, so that they don't slip down.

I can take a few pics for you, if you'd like?

Merlioness · 17/09/2011 09:22

Sorry, I keep x-posting :S
Definitely catch up if you go to Australia. Would be great :)

Folicacid · 17/09/2011 09:25

Is it wasn't too much trouble that would be aces of you to do that. I've known for mnths I want the BCJM but no one seems to stock it easily so that's what keeps delaying me buying it but it is inb stock online so if i felt okay with putting on the bassinet I wouldn't have to wait for pram shop to get it in. (been weeks and weeks now) BCMJ isn't stocked in many places in Edinburgh- one pram shop and JL but they only stock the carrycot and I don't thinki baby jogger seem to be great at dispatching to styockists so I'm beginning to stress that if don't get it online may not get it in time (although everyone was making me feel better about that in terms of baby not needing it on day one)

Folicacid · 17/09/2011 09:27

Yeah Aus probably a pipe dream but I keep thinking about mat leave as a huge extended holiday! Want to go to visit and stay with friends in southern spain get and over to greece for another holiday just the three of us.

Merlioness · 17/09/2011 09:54

Wow, I am so slow! Anyway, link for BGCM bassinet attachment here.
I know you were having trouble getting the stockist to have a bassinet in. Hopefully the pictures help.

I didn't take pictures of the removing of the canvas seat, but it is literally poppers and velcro and you can't put it on the wrong way after. It's just loads of poppers :(

Let me know if you need any other closer pictures. BTW, the L and R is looking from the front wheel onto the stroller

Thinking about "three of us" is a bit of a scar/weird prospect. Certainly for me...

Folicacid · 17/09/2011 09:58

I can't get that link to work? sorry for kerfuffle...

Merlioness · 17/09/2011 10:01

Is Facebook blocked for you?
Let me see if I can add them to my profile

voodoomunkee · 17/09/2011 10:05

Arrgghh even after a long chat with my mam I am no further forward! I do know that I dont want to have to buy a carry cot/bassinette for a pram so i think that may rule out the Baby Jogger. However, I am seduced by how light and manouverable it is!!!

Folic - BJCM Bassinette

Not sure if you would by buying it from JL - I just hgappened to be on the website!

voodoomunkee · 17/09/2011 10:05

I am going to flip a coin.....

Folicacid · 17/09/2011 10:08

Ah no voodoo that's the compact carry cot, the bassinet is bigger so should last longer- just no one seems to stock it. Thanks though! have you checked out reviews for the sola? Merlioness, I'm on FB but when I click that link all i get it an exclamation mark and a clicking noise!
