Here we are girls. I think we are all a bit shell-shocked at the moment, aren't we?

Thinking of you DHW and wishing life wasn't so cruel sometimes.

Frizbetheexpansionset · 11/02/2006 14:34

Ah wish someone would take dd off for a bit, I could just do with a chill out! eh well....

TIl I tried the sex bit last night, its not worked so far.....

Vicki, I discovered e-bay last time round!! very good way of selling all the knitted goods you may get from random people as well!!

Munz, snacks?? I never wanted to eat whilst in labour, too busy being sick.... and as for afterwards, afraid I bailed out as soon as they'd let me go, so I'm not much use to you there! I'm sure after a few days at home you'll start to wind down, its a bit like when you have a few weeks hols, takes a while to get into, then everything else in life takes over and before you know it, you have no time for going out/back to work!

UniSarah · 11/02/2006 19:53

Munz, I'd mention the itchness to MW, for most people its just irritating itchness but for a few its syptom of OC. if you have no other symptoms MW may do nowt, or may want to send blood for testing to be on safe side.
I hope you manage to unwind a bit now your not "working". Its the last break you'll get before you start a new long project called motherhood, the holidays are rubbish and the hours ridiculas. AND the pays cr*p, job satifaction is reconed to be quite high tho
UniSarah

HenniPenni · 11/02/2006 23:00

Munz, please tell your m/w about the itching, particularly if you're itching at night. Have you been very hot nd sweaty at night? these are a sign of o/c.

munz · 12/02/2006 10:28

no more than normal well we do have a 15 tog duvet on so once it's swopped back to the 13 will be fine. ankles have swolen up thou (think that's just extra fluids and today pins/needles have developed in my hands) it's prob nothing but i'll mention it to the m/w along wiht the pains in my hips - god who'd be blinking PG eh! thought i'd got over the pains by sleepin with a pillow - but obviously not! it says with this o/c u suffer insomnia - def no issues there, (well apart from the usual waking up to go to the loo and then taking 2 hrs to get to sleep again as DH is sprawled over my side! lol)

anyhow hope everyone's ok today what are u all doing? best go wake him up as he woke me up when he came to bed at about 2am this monring

InternationalGirl · 12/02/2006 14:11

Hello all:
Been lurking a little but haven't posted for awhile. Been debating about whether to post. We have had a roller coaster of a week.

Monday had Ob/Gyn appt and all went well - she's happy with baby's growth and all seems pretty well - still a little concerned about one of bub's feet - seems a little clubbed but it may just be the position he is in. It is one of those things that can be corrected nowadays so still feeling positive.

Wednesday, on the way to pick me up from work, my husband crashed our 4 month old car! Not his fault though - somebody pulled out in front of him very quickly from behind a truck - he had no chance to stop. Luckily no-one was hurt in the accident and the other driver has accepted full blame especially as she had been sitting on a stop sign. Another blessing was that I wasn't in the car - that would have brought a whole other set of worries. Such a hassle though - being without a car - especially here in South Africa where we just don't ride the public transport. The car is to be picked up tomorrow to go to the repair shop - I hope it doesn't take too long - really don't want to have to go to hospital in an ambulance!

DD1 was sick with the flu all week so had to come to work with me on Thursday morning while DH went to do the police report and sort out the insurance. At age 11 thankfully she is old enough to be told to sit down and read a book and will behave - would have been a different story with my almost 6yr old dd who has autism.

Saturday was a much better day when several of the ladies from work got together to throw us a baby shower AND it happened to be my birthday. We received some lovely gifts for bub and 680 nappies/diapers - should keep us going for awhile. The organizers, in the invitations suggested that anyone who brought a packet of nappies/diapers would go in a raffle draw - winner received a bottle of wine - we got the nappies/diapers. DH loved going through all the new goodies for baby especially the 5in1 transport system - a carseat (front and rear facing), converts to stroller, FAA airline approved seat so great for our traveling and a booster seat for sitting in a restaurant chair) - great piece of equipment with fantastic reviews that should come in really handy. Still need a bed, changing table, socks! funnily enough, and a few little clothes to mix and match - otherwise I think we're ready - well ready enough with the basics.

Today I'm feeling a little emotional and exhausted dreading the thought of having to go back to work tomorrow and trying to figure out our transport/grocery shopping for the next little while - think we will have to rent a car next weekend. DD1 was supposed to get her braces off this week too but we've had to postpone the appt and couldn't get in for another month so she's a little disappointed. Looking on the positive side I only have 3 weeks left of work then hopefully have 1 or 2 weeks off before baby's arrival.

Munz - I'm starting to get itchy too - I usually do towards the end of my pg's as my skin is stretched tight from baby and swelling from fluid retention. Like the others say though - good idea to mention it to your midwife. I also suffered from achey hips in the last few weeks of my 2nd pg - turned out nothing much I could do but have a baby to get rid of it. The end is nigh and if you can get though the next few weeks the aches/pains/itchies should all go away pretty quickly once babe arrives.

Also re: snacks at the hospital maybe a few fruit/breakfast bars, pieces of fruit, juices, bottled water, maybe a little sandwich or two, thermos of hot soup. Just some ideas - I hope not to have to stay in hospital too long but you never know and you want to have at least a little something with you in case the hospital doesn't.

Hope everyone else is doing okay and getting ready for their bundles of joy - looks like the March babies have started making their entrances. Yay Jangus - who's next?

InternationalGirl · 12/02/2006 14:12

OMG that was long!!

coppertop · 12/02/2006 14:23

It sounds like you've had a heck of a week, IG. I'm glad both you and your dh are okay though. Fingers crossed that you have your car back asap.

I can't believe how close some of you are to having those babies already!

I had my 33wk check-up last week. As I suspected, the baby is still stubbornly staying in a breech position although the MW didn't seem too concerned. Her main concern is that the baby is already measuring at a full-term size. I have to go back to see her again next week and possibly be referred for another scan to check that there is still enough fluid in there etc.

Another one here scratching their legs to pieces. I have to keep wearing trousers because ds1 and ds2 are frightened o all the scratches and bleeding. The MW said it was okay as I don't have any itching anywhere else. She recommended E45 cream and so far it's working really well.

Jackstini · 12/02/2006 16:49

Hi all - wow some of you are getting close. Are we going to start betting who will be next? My money's on Friz or T I Love.... (By the way - I think Eleanor & George are both lovely names TIL)
Friz - is City that's closed a ward - Loxley. Went on the tour last week and all rooms on ward are 4 bedded now unless you have had a C section, then you get a single. Really hoping all goes textbook - subject to space I can then get a room in the hotel and DH can stay with me.
Munz - lucky girl finishing work! It will feel strange tomorrow when you don't have to go in - take it easy on the filing though. I started on my raspberry tea today - have got the bags but also capsules in case I get fed up of the taste. (Up to 6 cups a day might might be a bit boring) Don't know if it really works on the uterus muscles and speeds up labour but hey, anything is worth a go! On your drinks and snacks muisli bars and dried fruit are good - also take some Lucozade for swigging when you are knackered half way thru!
Chelle belle - hope your test results are ok? I had sugar in wee for past 3 times so had to be tested too but mine came back ok this week - phew (took 8 days to come through)
Pop - can't believe you putting your foot thru the ceiling! The only place they should be is up on a cushion - preferably being massaged!
NG - good luck with your scan on Tues - hope everything goes ok
I am off now to drink more honey and lemon - have got a cold too Friz - please tell me yours did not take long to go..?

Frizbetheexpansionset · 12/02/2006 19:50

Soz Jackstini, but mines been lurking for two weeks, in fact think its trying to double its efforts again today....fingers x'd you get into the hotel at City, its supposed to be very nice in there!

Crikey Int girl, what a week, phew you had me exhausted just reading about it you got loads of great things at your baby shower tho how fabby!

Munz, give dh a big kick for being on your side of the bed!

Coppertop, hope all is ok with fluid levels when you go back, in meantime get on all fours for 15 mins a day to turn that baby!!

Well I feel in a better mood than I was this am, dh's lack of cleaning up after himself getting on my nerves, especially the bit that involves me not being able to get at bumps stuff, but I bailed out to the GP's for lunch, and they took dd and I out for dinner!! and I came home to him having at least cleaned out our room, so its a start!! Hoping he gets the rest done soon...

spiker · 12/02/2006 23:18

Been to busy with work to post recently but have been keeping tabs on you all.

Had a rotten week. Was feeling poorly at the start of it but put it down to anaemia and stress. Work reached crisis point on Thursday PM. And then i started having violent stomach cramps and vomiting on Thurs eve and got rushed off to the labour ward. I knew it wasn't labour as the pains were too high up but it was still agonising! Thankfully the midwives threw drugs at me and things calmed down by Friday and I was discharged with anti-biotics (think I've picked up one of the bugs going round the hospital I work in). Baby was fine - there was a bit of concern over prem labour (i'm 34 weeks).

I was hoping to be back to nearly-normal by Monday but I'm still really poorly, so work's out of the question. Will have to do my fire-fighting by phone instead.

Just to finish it all off DH woke up with flu-type thing today (Sun) and neither of us were well enough to take DS out for his birthday treat (he's 2 on Monday). Good thing he's too little to understand that we'd ruined his birthday - but i feel just awful about it.

Got a tough week to get through now. I finish on Friday but I honestly don't know how I'll make it to then! Sooo stressed with work/baby/health/redundancy/house buying/all the other stuff going on.

Sorry to be quiet for ages then just post all about me-me-me. It's not like I'm the only one having a tough time after all. Just feeling very sorry for myself at the moment. Once my health improves I think I'll feel more able to cope. Fingers crossed I'll get better soon.

Klara · 13/02/2006 07:18

Gosh - some of you are almost there - I am very jealous. I have to admit that it's only really hitting me now that I'm going to have another baby. I'm scared girls - last time was such a nightmare labour, and the more I read, the more I become aware tha stuff can go wrong.
Please tell me I'm not the only coward here and those of you onto number 3 or more - please tell me it's about a xzillion times quicker and easier the second time round..
Klara

RosiePosie · 13/02/2006 08:06

Hi everyone,

best wishes and get well soon vibes to all of you who've been under the weather recently.

Klara, my experience of labour second time was much quicker and easier than first time - it hurt, but it was much better! Still rather apprehensive about doing it again, but trying to relax and go with the flow.

My dh is off work all this week as it's half term, so I'm having a nice relaxing time, resting up as much as possible and trying to get this baby shifted ( a bit early, I know ). TMI coming up. . .we had sex a couple of times over the weekend and I've been feeling quite twingy with increased "fanny river" lolol. It's a bit like the long continuous show I had with dd, but without the blood stain, so hopefully it's my cervix beginning to soften and gear into action. Will continue the baby-dancing all week and see what happens!

OP posts:
Frizbetheexpansionset · 13/02/2006 08:42

Hehe lol RP, you go girl!! I reckon this ones going to be late again.....pah!

Klara, not on no.3 yet, but also hoping this one will be ok! was lucky with 1st and had a good time of it (all things considered) so just hoping this one is as easy!

Spiker {{{{{Big Hugs}}}}}} nothing worse than sicky fluey bug, have only had cough and cold here, thank crikey, but that's bad enough.....sure little one doesn't mind about birthday, like you say luckily pretty oblivious at the mo, you can both spoil him another weekend hopefully!

poppyh · 13/02/2006 09:02

Spiker, Sorry you havent been well honey, hope you feel better.I wasnt well for my DDs 2nd birthday either, but she didnt seem to notice too much, just happy with all her pressies!
It was my Ds's 12th birthday yesterday.Cant believe hes that old, it has honestly gone so quick.
Loft is now officially doing my head in!!Our bathroom is now mended, so at least thats ok.Was busy painting the bathroom walls yesterday.Certainly no way of relaxing during this prenancy.
Klara, on my third, no good advice about labour though darling as I had 2 emergency sections! But dont worry, it will be worth it all in the end.
Two weeks today till c section. How scary, it seems to have gone so quickly, need more time to make the house look good!
Munz, hope the itching calms down as it can be really annoying!
To everyone else, take care!!

Marne · 13/02/2006 09:32

Hi girls, sory to here some of you are ill, hope the rest of you are well.

Klara, i'm having my 2nd, i think i am more scaired then i was first time because i know what to expect, i had a painful labour with dd which seemed to go on for ever, hopefuly this time will be less painful as i have decided to have as much pain relief as poss.

Had a horid day yestaday, had realy bad tooth ache so went to the hospital dentist and had to have a wisdom tooth out, i have a phobea of dentists, this was the first time i had been since i was at school. Woke up this morning feeling like someone had punched me in the face.

Dh is taking me and dd to toys r us today to try and find dd a table, i must try not to buy anything else for bump as i have bought wey too much already.

Who's going to have the next march baby? Ive got 5 weeks to go yet, hope she comes early, dh wants to have rampant sex to get her out but im to tierd!

Munz, i've also been itching, mainly on my legs but i had this last time and all was ok, hope all is ok for you.

munz · 13/02/2006 09:43

IG - yes thank god the end is nigh, god only knows how u girls with SPD have coped all along, i've only had these achey hips/painful to lay on back for the last 2 weeks or so. was gonna suggest tesco.com but I didn't realise u were in SA, do u guys have anything similar? hope the car's back soon, and as u say least no one was hurt. I think Rosie, Thell or Friz are due first - so come on girls! lol - althou poppy has her C Section scheduled so she may well be first to go eeekkk!

ct - where u expecting a big bubba? I'm assuming they'll induce or something if baby's too big? fingers crossed all's ok thou.

jack - just gonna watch jeremy kyle actually - so sad, but hey might as well, I do miss my chat shows in the morning! lol - so sad! fingers crossed u're cold won't last too long.

friz - erm he got cold feet on his leg/back till I was satisfied I had enough room! [evil little grin icon!] lol. sounds like u need to get on to ur DH as well with the cleaning! when will these men realise we can't do it all??

spike - u're a fire fighter?? surely u shouldn't be doing that still at 34 weeks? (sorry gonna sound like ur mum there! lol) glad things turned out well for u thou, u just take things easy as well hon. can u take this week off as a paid holiday? - that's what i've got 2 weeks (well 12 days) paid hols then maternitiy leave pay starts form the 1st march.

klara - most definatly not - i'm already crappin it about the labour part - funny isn'it it! lol - u go thru PG then realise about 30 weeks ish this baby has to actually come out at some point! lol. hopefully thou tyhings will go well for all of us. was thinking about askin for a section cos i'm a woose! lol. but I won't do.

Rosie - ooh looking good for u honney - keep up with all that activity! lol - I'm gonna pounce on DH this week again and start regular ahem activitys - just gotta get past my 'o' problem I'm having! lol.

pop - god 2 weeks is that all?? I guess it is init - till the end of the month that would make me due in under 3 weeks ! I know how easy it is to say but the house can wait hon as long as u and bub's are fine (and i'm a fine one to talk after washing the car on the w/e cos it was depressingly muddy! lol) just got the carpets to go now!

anyhow woke up twice in the night for a loo stop, once DH asked if my waters had gone. - couldn't get off the loo yesterday (mega dioherra sp) and started to feel sick in the evenin, had a rather uncomfortable night with turnin etc, not sure what the bump's doing he's been v active but also feels v low - althou still have these aches in the ribs - so i'm thinking it's getting cramped and he's trying to strech his legs out - typical male! like his daddy! also ironed my NB clothes yesterday - might do the 0-3 today if I can be arsed! lol.

anyhow missed the start of JK now so off to catch up on it.

hope everyone's doing ok.

UniSarah · 13/02/2006 10:52

Just as I thought we had got to the point where i could relax and let pip show up when he wants to ...I've just had a phone call from my MW " no home birth boxes avalible" so she can't leave one here today as planned, got to wait till after someone else has delievered...
RATZ.
We really are at any day now so this is rather frustrating. Better keep my legs crossed a bit longer.

Hello ladies! As a past member of this thread, I just wanted to wish you all lots of luck. I thought I would get it in as I suppose a few of you are fast approaching your due dates, and might even pop early

I hope everything goes well for all of you. lots of love to you all

spiker · 13/02/2006 13:00

munz - I'm at IT project manager, not a fire-fighter . Fire-fighting just means having to deal with crises/issues reactively. Maybe it's just an NHS term??

Anyhow, I'm feeling better but still very wobbly today, and DH has forbade me going in to work (like I could walk down the stairs, never mind drive a car!). Ain't nobody else to do my job so I have to grit my teeth and deal with it. My phone is red hot!

chellebelle · 13/02/2006 13:32

Hello everyone,

I've only been away from the pc for a couple of days and it's taken me about half an hour to catch up!

Sorry to hear how many of you have been ill, it seems like everyone I know has got some bug or other at the mo - thankfully nothing seems to be coming my way. Not sure how much I'd be able to cope with labour and bugs at the same time. Hopefully you will all be better by the time you all start.

Had the tests and now have a fairly impressive bruise from where they stole my blood four times from the same vein (I didn't have any other obvious ones so tey stuck with the one they'd got). Won't get the results until my next mw appointment and that isn't til a week tomorrow, by which point I'll be 38 weeks so doubt they'd do anything anyway. I guess it's useful for future pregnancies though if nothing else.

Got my pool delivered thursday ready for my homebirth and it is flippin amazing!!! It's warm all the time and I can just get in for a soak wenever I like - no more islands sticking out of the bath for me!!! It is absolute bliss !

Anyway, really got to go - have got loads to do today (am off for half term but then am back at work til 3 days before I'm due so only really have this week to get everything sorted - eek!)

totallyinlove · 13/02/2006 14:01

blimey you lot! some nattering going on! hehe.

Well I'm still here. Ho hum. No twinges though. Midwife brought my homebirth pack yesterday and a lost of the phone numbers etc I need. Just waiting now. And WOOHOO.-my iron levels went up to 11.5! YAY!

I'm 37 weeks today so midwives are on call for me now. Scary! Been having terrible nightmares about me or the baby dying during birth and tbh its scaring the cr*p out of me! The nightime trips to the toilet are getting all too frequent now. Bring on the sleepless nights I say-at least when I do sleep I will be comfortable!

Just want this baby out now. Me and hubby are suffering from severe lack of sense of humour when it comes to sex, so we've given up I think! Though he is still like a kid in a sweet shop, constantly commenting on the size of my - erm- assests! I bought my nursing bras the other week and I think I have outgrown them already! I hate them SOOO much! 36E is too big for me! They hurt!

Right, I'm off to tidy up a bit now before I have to trudge to MILs house to let people in after the funeral. (hubbys nan) Just what I need right now but still. Life is cruel.

Jackstini · 13/02/2006 15:15

Well we are out in force today!
Friz - looks like your DH got the message on tidying then! Have to share a preg brain moment with you - ready your post about GPs taking you out to lunch and thought 'what kind personal service from your Doctors' {blush] Doh!! Glad you have good grandparents for your LOs anyway
Spiker - hope you are feeling better soon and can ease up on juggling all your stresses. Know what you mean about no-one else to do your job. I am only person covering UK for my company - rest are in USA [aaaaaaagghh emoticon needed]
RP - glad to hear you are managing to get some sex in! Fingers crossed it starts things off for you.
Pop - had not realised your CS date was so close - blimey you are on proper countdown now - number of sleeps and everything!
Klara - this is my first but am still very apprehensive (read shitting bricks!) about the whole pain thing. Still convinced I will pass out like when I have my legs waxed but will just have to wait and see.....
Chelle - v. of your pool - could just do with a wallow..
Munz - glad you are getting into your daytime telly. at you ironing NB clothes. Will see how long you keep that up after he's born!

romilly · 13/02/2006 18:41

lol Jackstini - i was ironing NB clothes too, like munz - spot the first timers

spiker - sorry to hear you are having a tough time there but v. glad to hear baby is fine

munz - i have been feeling sick again too. lovely timing for that little number to come back.

well i am off to try some acupuncture on wednesday as i dont want to be induced if i go over my due date. have done a bit of walking around on all fours to get baby out of posterior position - but frankly, i feel pretty bloody stupid doing it (even when i am on my own!) - so not done loads.

also havent been doing my ummm.... perineal massage thingy...am ashamed to admit. ugh. is it too late to start at week 37?!

RosiePosie · 13/02/2006 19:26

Rom, get down on your hands and knees and clean your kitchen floor every day - atleast it feels like you're actually doing something

OP posts:
InternationalGirl · 13/02/2006 19:55

Sorry to hear so many of you have been unwell - hope you are all better soon - especially in time for b-day.

Klara - second time round for me was better as I knew what to expect and was able to prepare myself more mentally - still hurt but did almost halve the labour time. 6hrs as opposed to 11 hrs.

of you who are getting some baby dancing in. With the SPD I seriously don't think I could even try - can barely get up at night to go pee. Also DH is not too keen - worried about hurting me or babe so might just have to wait.

Had to laugh at you lot ironing baby clothes. I figure as long as they're clean and ready to be worn babe will not notice he's a little wrinkled.

Munz - we don't really have a tesco.com but there are several other stores to buy local products at - just got to be wary of the quality - not always that good.

Now that we have some baby things after the baby shower on Saturday I'm looking forward to having a good sort and assessment this weekend for whatever else babe might need. Also got to get a birth plan down on paper - we're at about 34 weeks but babe seems to have dropped a little and is apparently head down. Have another Ob/Gyn appt on Monday so we'll see what she says.

Happy for you all who have only 2 or 3 weeks to go - some serious countdowns beginning now.
