Ive got my 1st doctors appointment tomorrow to confirm things

LaaBama - congratulations on your scan. Very exciting!!!

I thinke we are leaning towards a Cameleon too. I like the iCandy but DH popped into john Lewis on his lunch break and said that the Bugaboo was just as good but a lot lighter which I guess is a significant factor!!

NotFromConcentrate · 14/09/2011 11:37

ReadRide and Santa it's good to know
I'm not alone! In just sick of looking like I've let myself go after working so hard!

Had another scan this morning, have been moved forward a couple if days Grin so finally have an official due date - 13th March which makes me 14+1.

All booked in for my homebirth now Grin the midwife I saw was initially unsure but a senior midwife came down from the CMU and was really positive and supportive, so it's all arranged! Eek!

Hope everyone is having a good day - are we just waiting for the "blooming" to start now?!

ReadRideABikeSwim · 14/09/2011 12:03

Santa you don't sound fattest at all- it's disheartening to try really hard with weight ( I do) and then look like this.... I keep looking in the mirror and contemplating the 'aftermath' ie at 16 weeks will this body look like the first week post partum. ? Then I remembered I was AT LEAST a stone heavier and ( this is NOT normal btw) last time after giving birth due to horrific boobage I had not even lost the eight pounds baby weight the next day.....
Wish I had the energy to stop eating and move quicker but nausea not helping!!
16 weeks today and still v v v happy to be here!

knitterati · 15/09/2011 14:05

Got The results for the nuchal fold: 1 in 100000. Really happy and relieved to get the letter today!

Notfromconcentrate: it is my first - not really sure what I'm in for! Grin

NotFromConcentrate · 15/09/2011 18:06

Knitterati that sounds like a great result! I have to admit to having had second thoughts yesterday when I saw "Declined" written in the NT section of my scan report.

It's quiet round here just now, has everyone but me rediscovered their energy and gone out to have a life?! I went to the gym last night after 9 weeks of being too tired/sick to go. Today I am mostly dead Grin

knitterati · 15/09/2011 20:18

Notfromconcentrate - I didn't realise you'd declined the downs screening - out of interest (and you don't have to answer this) - why did you decline? I must admit after seeing the scan, nothing could put me off continuing with this pregnancy. I was mesmerised by my little sea monkey on the screen Smile

I haven't been to the gym since week 6 Blush, have been swimming once, but really need to pull my socks up! The last couple of days, I've started to feel less sick and less tired, so really have no excuse now!

We're nearly at the weekend ladies!! Can't wait!

NotFromConcentrate · 15/09/2011 20:26

Knitterati Of course i don't mind you asking - but bear in mind my answer is purely mine and DHs own feeling, and not a judgement or opinon on anyone who decided otherwise! We talked it over and decided that, if the results indicated a high risk, we would still continue with the pregnancy. For that reason, we decided the test was unnecessary stress. I'm 'only' 30, so my age wasn't a significant consideration, and we know the risk factor is purely that - a risk rather than a definite. So we could worry and fret and end up with a baby who doesn't have Downs, or we could expect to have a baby without Downs and we have one who has (like a friend of mine). Either way it just felt right for us not to have the test. That said, as I said earlier, I did feel a little twang of regret when I saw "Declined" where the NT measurement should have been. (Also, have you bought/read the Ina May Gaskin home birth book yet? I've read really good reviews about it!)

I booked in for a Weigh and Masure at the gym tonight before my workout, and ended up ringing to cancel because I'm in agony Blush (nothing baby-related, just muscle aches and pains). I'm determined I'm keeping at it though, if nothing else just to try and avoid ending up on crutches again this time round!

FlipFantasia · 15/09/2011 21:24

Evening ladies

Notfromconcentrate and Knitterati well done on the home birth plans - I'm quite jealous as I planned a home birth with DS and loved the antenatal care. My home birth midwife did all my antenatal visits at home from 25 weeks and it was great - we'd sit and drink tea and chat. V relaxing! Unfortunately, I had the opposite of my hoped for home water hypno birth in the end - induced at 42 weeks, immediate hyperstimulation then crash section due to suspected hypoxia (luckily DS was just fine!). Since I had a section I'm opting for hospital this time though am hoping i can make it into the birth centre.

The Ina May Gaskin book is great - not just for home birthers but any pregnant woman. The positive stories from women, especially those who had traumatic or highly medicalised first births, are really good.

I also really recommend hypnobirthing. We did a course last time and then practised quite a lot. Meant I got through my crazy birth with no pain relief, and quite a sense of calm despite the craziness (also really helped with staying relaxed during the pregnancy). The midwives at DS's birth found it v interesting (though my home birth midwife had see hypnobirthing parents plenty of times), mainly as they kept offering an epidural but I honestly didn't need it!

Can't remember who mentioned it but I love my dream genii pillow. Haven't dug it out yet but will soon. Totally helped with the achey hips/legs that plagued me, and didn't need to supplement with extra pillows til pretty late.

Well done on all the excerisers! I'm still cycling to and from work each day. Only about 7.5 miles a day but it definitely helps, both my mood and the scales. I gained a stone in the first trimester with DS and am just glad I've gained only 3 pounds this time. Though still the jeans tightening and comedy massive boobs are a bit depressing. Am looking forward to being pregnant looking and not just tubby!

Right, enough MN procrastinating - the flat is a tip and I've got work stuff to do. I've got my obstetrician appointment tomorrow morning, so hope I'll be picking up my notes. Am 13 weeks tomorrow, so glad to be leaving all the tiredness and nausea of the first trimester behind!

ZhenXiang · 15/09/2011 21:42

Got my downs screening result 1:6,600 Low Risk so am :) although we would have kept baby regardless so wasn't worried.

Went to gym today and it felt really good, baby very active afterwards I am getting lots of movement now at 16+4 which is reassuring :)

Would love to have a homebirth, but will be hospital as DD was EMCS. I know I could still opt for one, but I think given that I will be a VBAC I would feel better knowing that if another CS was required that I wouldn't have to transfer in. Maybe if VBAC is successful I would try homebirth if we had DC3.

My friend just had her first baby at home 11 weeks ago in the birthing pool and said it was a really good experience.

ILoveMyDragon · 16/09/2011 10:22

Hey ladies!

Glad to hear I'm not the only one feeling overly fat and unpregnant! I actually think tho for the first time in my life I look better naked (TMI) cos I think I have quite a nice bump forming then I get dressed and just look fat!! But I am pleased I have only put on 3lbs which is pretty amazing with the amound of rubbish I have been eating!!

ShaggingProducesResults · 16/09/2011 12:03

Morning all and HAPPY FRIDAY!!!!

I've heard lots of really great things about hypnobirthing sothink I will be signing up for a course. I am quite keen to try for a water birth but am also perfectly happy to have an epidural if I need it. At the moment my care is a bit up in the air as I am not entirely sure where we are going to be living come March. hopefully we can get a bit more of an idea in the next week and then I can start to plan everything!!

With regards to exercise...... I have been utterly useless! Pre TTC I was doing a lot of running etc as I ran my first ever Half marathon in March. Since then, holidays and life got in the way and then the nausea hit and I can't remember the last time I went for a run or did anything more active than walking! I am definitely starting to feel better and so hopefully I will be able to get back into exercise in the next few weeks. I still don't have much of a bump, I've just lost my waist, but the boobage is comedy!!

NotFromConcentrate · 16/09/2011 12:57

Shagging I'd secondly second Flip's recommendation of Hypnobirthing.
I did the course etc last time and, although the delivery I ended up with wasn't really conducive to HB (unsupportive staff etc) I f

NotFromConcentrate · 16/09/2011 13:00

Sorry, a bit of premature submission there!

I found it great antenatally and have no doubt it would be of benefit in labour Grin

I am mostly imagining things today because, on my 2 hour drive to my meeting, I was convinced I could feel little baby flutterings where my seatbelt was pressing on my tummy. At 14+3 it's probably more likely to be the product of yesterday's veg soup...

ILoveMyDragon · 16/09/2011 13:40

Ahhh I meant to say about the dreams too!! I am not a dreamer but am definely having dreams every night now all very wierd!!

Someone I know was going on about hypnobirthing the other day I may have to look into it!

As for exercise well I'm generally crao at it anyway but luckily through my job I do a lot of walking and swim most weeks so am not too bad altho my 40 lengths is gradually dropping down! But I figure its better than nothing!

Got my Downs Test 1 in 5100 which is all good - not that it would make any differnce!!

Happy Friday everyone!!

ReadRideABikeSwim · 16/09/2011 21:05

hello all - had my 16 week midwife apointment today. I almost wonder why they bother dragging me to it as it was very err swift! Did bp ( looked really low to me!) urine - and heartbeat thing which was good and then had a palpate. Only just started telling people really and although i look disgustingly fat and shapeless - people look at me like Confused as no bump. Anyway MW said bump was spot on for dates and then said ' you should have a little bump by 20 weeks' which is something to look forward to!!

She told me to really make an effort to eat iron rich stuff -to prevent the horrors of the iron tablets/horrific constipation scenario - so i think i will take her advice. Any one any tips - i'd love meat but am strict vegetarian, dont do pulses, am off fruit so that's apricots out the window - hmmm that about leaves spinach!!! Wink

As for those of you doing hypnobirthing RESPECT!!! I am rubbish at birth and have been heavily hinting about a section but am fighting a losing battle - once i was an ok birther - now i am a quivering wreck. Need an alternative plan methinks!

16+2 #7

ILoveMyDragon · 18/09/2011 09:01

The only think I know about iron rich food is spinach, broccoli, peas and dark chocolate infact I think any leafy green veg is pretty good (am I making that up?!)

I bit the bullet yesterday and bought a pair of maternity jeans the minute I tried them on in the shop I felt my belly breathe a sigh of relief! Will test run them today! Also thought I deserved a lovely pair of flat boots for the winter so spent far too much money but never mind!

Saw the inlaws last night for the first time since the announcement and MIL has already knitted 2 blankets and is halfway through a shawl and can we let her know what she would like them to buy for us!!!
It's very kind but at 15 weeks is this a little premature?!

I am grateful tho really I know we will have lots of support from both sides my mother even paid for my MOT because she wasn't having me drive her grandchild round in a deathtrap!! I do believe the novelty will wear off soon tho!!

Cold is starting to appear so I'm off to buy tissues and feel sorry for myself

FlipFantasia · 18/09/2011 09:02

Morning

Read know what you mean about the 16 week app - got mine coming up soon and am already expecting to be Hmm about it. On the iron front, from memory spinach is actually pretty low in iron. All that popeye stuff is nonsense! Surprisingly, bran flakes are pretty good for iron so a breakfast of that, plus OJ/grapefruit juice (vit C aids absorption) would help. I'm personally a massive fan of Spatone and have been taking it for weeks already, as thought it might help with the comedy exhaustion. I add it to my morning glass of OJ and don't find it causes constipation.

On the dreams front, also having terribly vivid dreams. On Friday night/Sat morning, I actually had to get up at 2am and potter about until 4am after really upsetting violent nightmare type dreams that involved terrible things happening to DS. Was awful, and has never happened to me before.

Meant I was too knackered yesterday to be bothered to go to the local NCT sale. For any first timers, the NCT sales are a great way to pick up bits and bobs at bargain prices (eg our one always has slings, bouncy chairs, great toys etc as well as loads of clothes).

Hope everyone's having a great weekend. We're off into central London today to meet my sister and nieces for lunch and to catch the end of the Tour of Britain cycling.

ILoveMyDragon · 18/09/2011 09:32

Do you know flip as I refreshed the page I thought to myself spinach is good for calcium not iron!! Sorry!! It is good for you tho ;)

ILoveMyDragon · 18/09/2011 09:37

I'm lyin again about the spinach - it blocks calcium absorption - just ignore me today!

ZhenXiang · 18/09/2011 10:14

Hi everyone,

Knackered today, DD has a cough and is waking throughout the night. I suppose it is good practise for when the baby comes.

I wish they would do the 16 week appointment with the GP, to go all the way to the hospital for such a short one is annoying.

Read - there is some good info here on iron rich foods for a veggie diet. You could try Floradix or Feroglobin as well as an iron-tonic.

MakkaPakkasWilly · 18/09/2011 11:03

Morning chaps.
Hope you are all well.

Things fairly uneventful here except fatty lala has given me serious eczema face. I usually have pretty good skin but now I look like I have hives. Zexy.

Got downs syndrome results.... 1:97,000
So I would say that's low risk then?! lol

Anyway... must dash to Selfridges to fight through the little Hugo's and Felicity's for my organic tofu.... oh hang on, reality check, Waitrose for a quavers multi pack and loiter around the reduced section more like.

MakkaPakkasWilly · 18/09/2011 11:04

oh I forgot

16+something

ShaggingProducesResults · 18/09/2011 11:23

Morning all!

I've been having very vivid dreams too. No violent ones but some really bizarre ones and some rather explicit ones...Blush

Dragon. I have started wearing my maternity jeans already. I don't really have a bump yet so they're far to big but I get quite bloated and so sitting at my desk all day in my regular jeans is a bit uncomfortable!!! Also ordered some bump bands from topshop in the hope I can use my regular jeans but with the buttons undone!! I'm also looking at some lovely flat boots. Seen a gorgeous Toey Burch pair on Net-a-Porter and now nothing else looks nice enough..... Think I may have to cave in Wink

Makka - GREAT downs results there!! What fab news. Sorry to hear about the eczema though, what a pain.

I'm 15+1 today and am booked in for my MW appointment on Fri. Luckily my appointments are at my GPs surgery which is a 10min walk from home (I realise I am very lucky with thus). Sounds like it'll be a pretty quick appointment. For those who've done it already, did you get to hear the heartbeat?

ReadRideABikeSwim · 18/09/2011 12:17

Thanks for iron advice - will probably take the spa tone although it's like drinking fillings!! Noticed I SUDDENLY feeling so shattered and ridiculously unfit just pushing the buggy so it could well be that!
I too bit the bullet and bought some Isabella Oliver jeans off eBay!! NOT forking out £100 so will keep you informed.
Told the rest of my children which is always fun!

Shagging she did do the heartbeat for me and acted like she always did it so hopefully they all

Impatient to look pregnant now instead of just horrid boobs and flab!

ShaggingProducesResults · 18/09/2011 12:42

Lovely to be able to tell your children. Are they excited?

Will be interested to hear your thoughts on the IO jeans. I went cheap and got a couple of pairs from H&M. never really shopped there but am pretty impressed with their maternity jeans.

I know what you mean about wanting to look pregnant. At the moment I look like I've just had implants and a big meal...... Not very attractive!!!

Saw a woman in the nursery shop yesterday who is also due in march and she has a proper bump!!
