Hey people,

Quick question, I havr signed up for bounty to get the free stuff!! But they are putting me a week ahead of every other EDD checker I have used including MW I know its not important and have dating scan next Tues but just wondering how this is possible?!

Never mind! As for the bras I am absolutely gonna have to go shopping at the weekend, checked out all the supermarkets and they don't go big enough :( maternity extreme here we come!!

Think it's nap time!

KittyRogue · 30/08/2011 19:12

Hey ilovemydragon, let me know if the stuff you get is any good! I'm always worried they will be spam or something.

The website could just be wrong? The scan will tell you for sure!
:)

ILoveMyDragon · 30/08/2011 19:30

Will do!! So far I have obtained 34 free newborn nappies!! (pack of 27 to be collected bit too early right now I think!!!)

But I do love a coupon or 2!!! Will keep you posted if anything amazing crops up!!

laabama · 31/08/2011 19:43

Dragon I can absolutely recommend Mothercare for maternity bras. I bought a pack of 2 on Mon and they are so comfortable!!

MakkaPakkasWilly · 01/09/2011 08:46

Someone recommended Peacocks maternity bras to me recently - apparently they are £5 and much prettier than mothercare. No personal experience, however.
I have to say, personally, I hate mothercare ones, but that might be because I am a 32F and I find them lacking in support, so I tend to wear normal bras with an extension on the back or a sports bra.
Also quite good when you are well boobily-endowed are bravado bras when you are near the end or breastfeeding, they offer more support and are comfy enough for sleep too. My mothercare ones went crap after a couple of washes and went in the bin.

MakkaPakkasWilly · 01/09/2011 09:01

Bravissimo is also good.

Maternity wear -
Next seem to have a shitty range at the moment and I find their jeans come up short and don't last long, and the arms are always too tight in their tops.
Mamas and Papas do nice clothes but expensive (that said I still buy from there).
New look do some nice budget bits, as do H&M, I picked up some skinny jeans from new look yesterday for £15.
Dorothy Perkins and Peacocks also have a few nice bits, super comfy, and DP are great because most things are LONG in case your bump ends up being supersized.
Never tried M&S.
Mothercare variable, some nice bits but with some bits the quality doesn't last, also they are expensive. They do good basics though.

Hello everyone, haven't been on her for a couple of weeks due to moving house and having no internet connection. Time is flying and the scan news is uplifting!
I went for my dating scan/nuchal scan on Tuesday. It was a rather tense build up as DH was unable to get the time off work and I couldn't get anyone to look after dd (3.11). I had a mmc detected back in May at the 12 week scan, so had been mentally preparing myself for more bad news and had been quite calm about it. In the event the scan was absolutely fine and baby looks really good with a nice strong heartbeat and a small nuchal measurement. Surprisingly dd sat in a chair next to me with her colouring book and pen and didn't twig a thing. She hasn't asked any questions or made any comments since as to what we were doing at the hospital. Phew!
I will say 'though that my time in the waiting room was an ordeal. The room was packed with lots of people standing when we first walked in. I then noticed a sign up on the wall staing that they were running behind with appts. by approx. one hour. As you can imagine it is quite a balancing act trying to maintain a 'comfortably' full bladder for longer than expected. There were quite a few women popping to the toilets for a 'mini wee' !!
We have a good scan photo and are reassured.........until the mentalling starts again!

knitterati · 01/09/2011 16:38

hello!

I'm on another March thread, but thought I'd drop in and say 'hi'! I'm 12weeks today (due on 17th March) with DC1 and have our first scan on Wednesday - can't wait!!

The maternity clothes tips are very handy too, I'm still just about fitting into jeans, but they're starting to become a little uncomfortable now, so will need to start looking around for my bumpy winter wardrobe! I can recommend Mothercare for cheap sleep bras (£20 for 2 I think), their day bras are ok, but seem to squish my boobs together, which has caused heat rash issues in my cleavage!

Is anyone on this thread still having morning sickness? I had a very embarrassing incident with a clear freezer bag in a busy tube station the other day, just when I was starting to wonder if MS should be stopping soon!
x

MakkaPakkasWilly · 02/09/2011 08:56

Hello Knitterati!

I don't have MS any more but I am still ridiculously tired. Some days are better than others though.... but just last week I was asleep at 8pm, and woke up at 6am still tired.

This thread is very quiet!

14+1

ILoveMyDragon · 02/09/2011 16:52

Thanks for all the advice re bras etc! I'm normally a 38f and am looking atleast for 40g's now which is where my problem is cos even places which do DD+ tend to stop at f! Am off shopping over the weekend to hunt some stuff down as I am now limited to about 2 bras I can comfortably wear all day without having to constantly 'sort myself out' in public!! My boss told me to do the hairband trick with my jeans which has helped immensley!!! (put a hairdband or
elastic band through the button hole and hook that round the button!)

Knitterati - my EDD is 17th March and scan on Tues so might be same!!!

I have been exceptionally lucky to have no MS but the tiredness is a complete killer and I am having an hour nap most days when I get in from work!
Infact I think it might be nap time now!!!

KittyRogue · 02/09/2011 18:18

Hey all!

12 weeks today!! Am still getting ms, but has died down loads compared to earlier on! The big difference I have found is I'm actually being sick in the mornings now rather than retching for ages throughout the day..

Scan on Monday am so so so so excited!!

I did ask earlier if anyone had been reading any good baby books?

NorthernGirlie · 03/09/2011 09:07

ILoveMyDragon - I'm a 36H (was a 36G) and got 2 maternity bras in M&S for £5 a few weeks ago - www.marksandspencer.com/Pack-Maternity-Cotton-Assorted-Nursing/dp/B004OUU020?ie=UTF8&ref=sr_1_1&nodeId=83594031&sr=1-1&qid=1315037225&pf_rd_r=14H2VNQ1MAGSH1CF45Y9&pf_rd_m=A2BO0OYVBKIQJM&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_i=83591031&pf_rd_p=215570647&pf_rd_s=related-items-3
They weren't in the sale but scanned at £5 - might be worth a look xx

SantaLucia · 03/09/2011 10:05

Re: bras. Mine are now huge and I was fitted in Bravissimo for some new ones. They have some really good stock in there for larger breasts. I think they go up to a K cup size?!?!? There is a good on-line service which gives instructions on how to measure if you don't have a branch nearby.

Re: baby books. I'm not reading any at the moment. Toying with the idea of getting a second hand copy of Gina Ford. Would have rather eaten vomit than followed Gina Ford with my first baby but this time around I quite like the idea of somebody telling me what to do and me just following instructions. I can always ignore the bits that don't work for me! Last time I read the Baby Whisperer books and found them very reassuring as my baby was a grumpy baby who never did many things in the way of cuteness or happiness - she changed totally once she could walk and talk and is now a super happy 3 year old.

MS totally gone here but wasn't ever sick anyway, just felt really hungover all the time. Apart from feeling tired whenever I run about doing too much - I wouldn't actually know that I was pregnant. Except for the fact that I stopped off at MacDonalds yesterday in town at 11am and ate a cheeseburger. Could have eaten another one too but ran away in horror at my bizarre new appetite. I'm normally a croissant and a coffee kind of girl.

Poppins27 · 03/09/2011 12:44

Hello everybody....I did previously say 'hi' on here in the early days but have been more of an observer for the past few weeks so I thought it was about time to show my face again!!

Knickeratti....I too am still suffering from MS and I'm 13+2 today :-(. It had appeared to die down a bit at 10 weeks but back with a vengeance now!!

Thanks for all of the clothing/bra tips too....as a first timer I'm a complete novice so the advice is coming in very handy. keep it coming! :-)

Poppins27 · 03/09/2011 12:46

Oh and just as an afterthought....I have just started using bio oil to try and avoid the dreaded stretch marks but I'm finding the smell of it totally gip inducing!! Does anybody have any idea of alternatives that might be a little kinder to my ridiculous sense of smell at the moment?!

Reallea · 03/09/2011 19:03

Poppins, I use the sanctuary mum-to-be oil (left over from last pg) and it hasn't made my MS any worse. I am still medicated and I have tried to stop but the nausea came back.

As for books, my bible throughout my first pregnancy was Obstetrician Professor Lesley Regans's 'Your Pregnancy week by week'. Actually it's not week by week but stage by stage but I found it excellent, I may have mentioned it before, just check out the reviews on amazon. She gives no nonsense explanations for everything that's going on and plenty of information on just staying healthy etc. I have got it again out of the library and will just renew and renew. I think the fact that she is both an obstetrician and a mum of twins gives her the right combination of fact and empathy and mst importantly never ever sounding patronising.

As for post birth I did put DS on Gina Ford's routines. I knew some people are fiercely anti them but I figured there are thousands with the quieter voice who are actually fans, why else would her book be such a massive bestseller? Knowing what some people have said about her routines we kept it quiet that we were following them- i felt embarrassed to admit it at the time. Before we made the decision I really thought about whether or not we should, and i read everything i could get my hands on, including the baby whisperer which was my second favourite, and Dr Miriam Stoppard who is the complete opposite of Gina Ford. As a teacher I am used to living to a timetable so reckon that helped because I know it doesn't suit everyone, but my main reason was that my husband and I are both v v stubborn people who tend to come to loggerheads when we both think we are right so at least we had an instruction manual to go by which we promised not to argue over. Anyway it worked for us and DS has always been a really sunny little baby and slept thru at six weeks. I reckon it helped that he was a big baby and able to go big gaps between feeds, so we never never ever had to leave him crying - nor would I ever have been able to. I guess we were just lucky that it worked for him as my friend also attempted it and it just didn't suit her DS at all. So I figure it suits some and not others. We'll try it this time round but if it doesn't work I'll just do the baby whisperer instead.

Poppins27 · 03/09/2011 22:06

Oooh thanks Raella, I love the Sanctuary range so that sounds like a great alternative!!

I'm sorry that your still feeling rough too...its actually beginning to get me down. In a way it was reassuring in the early days but now I've had the scan and seen that 'mini-me' exists and appears healthy its just awful!

And in addition to feeling like death my pregnancy hormones have decided that acne would be the way forward...the 'blooming' stage can't come soon enough!! ;-)

ZhenXiang · 03/09/2011 22:06

Hi Poppins, I couldn't use bio-oil with my last pregnancy as it gave me a rash. I used Dermamum cream and Palmers Cocoa Butter, Palmers have a stretch mark cream, but I just used the original solid formula and it worked fine. I was huge with my DD and have virtually no stretch marks (except a few small pale ones by my belly button, but I did cream lots of times a day.

Have no idea about baby books or programs, I had the Great Ormond Street Baby and Childcare Book here, but to be honest once I had DD I relied mainly upon the advice of MIL (mother five kids, and grandmother to 14), my mum and SIL who also has five kids and just winged the rest :)

Soothe · 04/09/2011 11:50

Poplins I use some clarins oil which smells like heaven.. I found the palmers made me feel sick and never loved bio oil. Tbh I would not start yet as your skin won't need it yet- I lavish it on in the last ten weeks and that's costly enough!
Will google clarins stuff for a link when I am not on the phone

Eagle so sorry mmcs are so cruel xx

Soothe · 04/09/2011 11:51

Poppins sorry my silly phone!

ILoveMyDragon · 04/09/2011 15:05

Ahhh the joys of 'out of stock'!!! Have resorted to ordering some normal bras in bigger for now!

As for books I haven't read any and to be honest am probably more of a winger (well that's what I think at this stage - I'm sure that is subject to change!)

tiany · 04/09/2011 20:48

hi havent been on for ages - been exceptionally tired and pretty busy. Still waiting for scan - another week away. Feels like we are never getting there - also getting harder to hide as my bump is beginning to show... this thread is pretty quiet

MakkaPakkasWilly · 05/09/2011 08:53

yes the thread is too quiet, come on ladies Grin

14+4 and feeling shoite.
I have a stinking cold.
Pregnancy hormones have given me eczema and really bad/bumpy skin, feeling sexy

kirsty12321 · 05/09/2011 09:07

Makka I've got gross skin too Sad the back of my legs from my calfs up to my bum have gone all pimply and raised bumps :(

Spent 6 hours trailing round baby's r us and mothercare at the weekend, very overwhelming and scary!

I'm become really excited about being pregnant and the prospect that this pregnancy is going to lead to a real baby!!

I worked out today is my 100th day of pregnancy! Just another 180 odd to go!
14 + 2 and knackered still!
