Lets get with the glow :)

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I liked the tens machine the last time. Things went a little wrong due to other reasons and I had to take it off but it was great for pain control until then. MW was shocked at how far I got before I gave in and used some gas and air.

Xiaoxiong · 23/06/2011 15:54

mrsbuggy what's the difference between natal hypnotherapy, hypnobirthing and hypnobabies?? Are these just brand names for the same thing?

Our NHS trust offers everyone 12 hours of free hypnobirthing classes and I am very much hoping they are the same thing as what you were doing!

(Don't mind a bit of lentil-weaving myself, as long as I'm allowed to eat the lentils at some point)

ThePippy · 23/06/2011 16:13

Rant time: just back from 16 weeks app and not happy. Firstly I was told that it was too early to check to hear the heartbeat, and when I pointed out that I had heard last time at 16 weeks she back tracked and said it was possible but that she might not be able to pick it up. Anyway she started trying and make comments about how low down the baby would be still, and I swear she had the doppler almost down by my bloody knees (ok not that low, but she was defo on my pelvic bone at the front) and then said she couldn't get it. I asked if it was possible the baby was higher (I am sure last time the MW found it much higher) so she moved up a tiny amount and then gave up. She then said something along the lines of other midwifes do sometimes find it at 16 weeks, but she rarely does. I was so cross as everyone I know had it found at 16 weeks no problem, including me last pregnancy. Last time the MW felt around my tummy to determine where my uterus was and then placed the doppler, this time she was just so rubbish.

Anyway I am so angry about it that I came straight back to work and ordered a doppler from Amazon, even though DH was really against the idea (didn't want the madness of listening to baby every 5 mins) and I frankly don't care if he is unhappy with me buying one.

So now I am angry and paranoid that there is something wrong - so much for MW's being there as carers and supposed to help reassure us!

Rant over! I will sit quietly fuming now.

xstitch · 23/06/2011 16:17

:( pippy If you were near me I would try and find the heartbeat with a home doppler for you. TBH it does sound like she is just a crap MW. MY MW felt around for my uterus first before using the doppler. I'm sure everything is fine.

My advice with the home doppler is start low try right across then gradually move upwards until you find baby. Its swimming around in a decent space at the moment so you sometimes need to do a bit of searching.

ThePippy · 23/06/2011 16:38

thanks xstich. It isn't helped by the fact that before my 13+3 scan I was sure I had felt movements, but I'm not so sure in the last weeks, so I was a little bit desperate to hear the HB to reasure me. Oh well the doppler will not be long arriving so fingers crossed and thanks for the home doppler tips.

msbuggywinkle · 23/06/2011 16:47

The different ones will use different wording and voices, but all to the same end. Tylepherion seriously impressed by your NHS, wish ours did.

As you seem to be interested, here's DD2's birth story and http://radical-mama.blogspot.com/2009/03/labour-photos.html pictures I should point out that in the photos of me in the pool I'm pushing.

Jo Obviously, painless birth isn't guaranteed and I can't say that I felt in control. For me, birth is all about losing control, being happy with that and 'letting your monkey do it'. Hypnotherapy gets your brain out of the way (in my case, makes me witter on about how in love with the universe I am) so your body can get on with the job. [lentil-weaving moment over now]

msbuggywinkle · 23/06/2011 16:47

bum, fudged the second link try again

BeeMyBaby · 24/06/2011 07:02

thepippy at least your midwife gave in and at least tried, mine wouldn't even entertain the idea (even though last time it was easily found at 15 weeks).

DarciesmumandBump2 · 24/06/2011 08:09

Kir5ty I had a referral to physio fr my rheumatologist. Was told I need to invest in a bump band!

That's a shame about MW's not listening for heartbeat sounds like she just can't be bothered!

Well we booked our wedding yesterday by 4pm on 18th August 2012 I'll be a Mrs lol.

And seeing Bon Jovi tomorrow at Hyde Park can't wait Smile

HoneyLovesCake · 24/06/2011 11:25

Tyelperion Not sure about the others but Hypnobirthing is the brand name for the Marie Mongan Method. There are no authorised Hypnobirthing home-study courses; you can buy the book & cds separately but Hypnobirthing is meant to be taught through a series of classes totalling at least 12.5 hours & the book & cd are supposed to be for home practice.

I've read both positive & negative reviews from ladies doing home courses but only positive ones from those who have done some sort of class (not just Hypnobirthing); for me that was the deciding factor. Plus, I thought it'sd be easier to get DP to focus if he had to go to a class. It's not cheap but I had such a deep-rooted fear of labour it felt essential. When I showed DP the videos of hypnobirths on youtube after making him watch an episode of OBEM Wink he agreed it was definately the way to go. Maybe not a fair comparison but it worked Grin I'm Envy of those who get free classes...hopefully one day we'll all be offered them.

Xiaoxiong · 24/06/2011 14:22

Thanks for the feedback Honey and mrsbuggy. I'm really looking forward to learning more about it and take my free classes, will try and pass on any wisdom I glean to benefit us all.

I've been very pleased with my NHS trust so far - midwives have been great, appointments all done in a traditional way so it's been very straightforward (I swear the hospital scan appointments desk uses the same paper bookings diary that my hair salon uses), and the free classes. If anyone's interested it's the Heatherwood and Wexham Park Hospitals foundation trust and covers Ascot, Bracknell, Maidenhead, Slough and Windsor (and somewhere called the Chalfonts too but no idea where that is).

sevendwarves · 24/06/2011 14:39

Tyelperion your hospital sounds excellent, I'm very envious.

My yoga DVD arrived today so I'll hopefully be giving it a go tonight while DH is at work.

I put my both my old pushchairs on eBay last night, as DH has already bought the new double one I'm hoping to make enough to put towards some nursery furniture. We were living in a one-bedroom flat when we had DS so I feel like I missed out by not having a nursery to decorate, I'm definately going to make up for it this time.

DarciesmumandBump2 · 24/06/2011 18:28

We got the result of the nuchal test and came back Low Risk so v.happy about that Grin

Sure I'm feeling the baby move more. 14wks 2nd pregnancy is this normal?

sevendwarves · 24/06/2011 19:40

Glad to hear of the good results darcies. I'm 14+3 with my 2nd and have been feeling the odd flutter some days since last week. It's only maybe once or twice a day so I'm assuming I can only feel really big movements like when it must be doing backflips or something :o

xstitch · 24/06/2011 23:03

I am 16 weeks now. I think that is what I can feel the worry when not feeling anything. Looking forward to being able to work out regular kicks and that.

Good results Darcies.

HoneyLovesCake · 25/06/2011 09:36

Has anyone else started buying baby clothes? I held off 'til last night & I really only meant to have a little look on ebay to see what was available but I went a little bit crazy Blush; I didn't spend a lot of money as it was all very cheap but now I'm worried i've started too soon...I've got 5 months of being tempted by super-cute baby things & as this is my first I have to buy everything. Please tell me I'm not the only one!!!

msbuggywinkle · 25/06/2011 09:57

Honey I did with DD1, but I'm waiting til after my 20 week scan because it fits better financially for us as it is DD1's birthday in July (scan is 29th July) and we pay off our final bit of debt in July too!

I weirdly need to buy quite a lot this time round, our cloth nappies were worn out after DD2 finished with them and the DDs are spring and summer birthdays. At least I don't need to buy any of the expensive stuff!

Any exciting plans for this weekend? None here! Just going to get my phone repaired, buy shoes and have lunch out today then round to the in laws tomorrow; which means I get a couple of hours un-interrupted sit down while they chase the DDs round the garden! I have great in laws.

LittleMissFlustered · 25/06/2011 11:54

Not in intending to buy anything until I have to. Need to do some saving first. And perhaps move.

HoneyLovesCake · 25/06/2011 12:14

I had no intention on buying anything but I got sucked in :( Shouldn't have even looked!!!

sevendwarves · 25/06/2011 13:17

I haven't bought any clothes yet but I have been looking. I'm waiting to find out the sex at the next scan, we don't need much at all if it's a boy but all new clothes, towels, blankets etc if it's a girl.

BeeMyBaby · 25/06/2011 14:34

I waited till I was about 6months with my first (last time) until I bought anything, I don't plan to buy anything bar one thing this time until the baby is born (a moby wrap), as most of the very young clothes we bought for DD were gender neutral, like msbuggywinkle, at least we already have all the expensive stuff. Though to be fair to first timers, as I already have DD I already have a little one to dress up etc, so buying new baby clothes is not such a draw.

Anyone experiencing different pregnancy symptoms in their second trimester? I've had two nights in a row when I've been woken up with severe leg cramp, and I've already started getting slightly numb hands, much earlier than last time (although no swelling yet).

TandB · 25/06/2011 15:35

Just joining up here!

I had my scan today and my dates have changed by almost a week so due date of 29th.

aethelfleda · 25/06/2011 16:12

Great news that your risk is low Darcies.

I also got a "low risk" letter, though it didn't explain how they worked it out- it had some numbers on it for the tests but didn't aay what the "normals" were. I'm sure with my DD2 (where they just did the scan bit), they told me a "base risk" for my age then what the risk had gone down/up to taking the scan measurement into account. Oh well, news good anyway.

Am knackered as I took the girls to the Saturday cinema kids Club and they bounced up and down like loons during most of "Gnomio and Juliet"!

rek108 · 25/06/2011 17:34

Hello
Can i join you? My due date is the 3rd of dec. I have a 1 year old too! Anyone else having 2 close together?

X

LittleMissFlustered · 25/06/2011 18:12
